L'art oratoire a subi de profondes mutations ces dernières années. Fondée initialement sur un modèle mémoriel, la parole en public s'est vue au fil des siècles de plus en plus soutenue par des supports techniques externes: à destination de l'orateur seul, puis partagés avec le public. Ainsi aujourd'hui, quasiment toute présentation orale est accompagnée par la projection d'un jeu de transparents. Alors que ces documents numériques continuent leur irrésistible ascension, ils font l'objet de critiques très nombreuses. Nous expliquerons ce paradoxe en montrant que les documents PowerPoint sont particulièrement adaptés dans un contexte d'économie de l'attention, tant pour ceux qui les produisent que pour ceux qui les reçoivent. Les améliorations de l'usage doivent intégrer cette dimension.

Se, come psichiatri, accettassimo di essere solo distributori di pillole, oppure psicoterapeuti che mettono tutti i loro pazienti su di un letto di Procuste, ciascuno ritenendo di seguire l'unica strada che porta alia salute mentale, verremmo meno ai doveri che abbiamo verso i nostri pazienti e perderemmo la nostra integrita di medici.

Abstract:

This set of papers explores the topic of “Possible Futures for Philosophy of Religion.” Though the field of philosophy of religion today has grown relatively narrow, these four papers seek to stretch it back out and all four are (as befitting our topic) forward-looking. Although the papers cover several different issues, I am going to shoehorn them into that pre-conceived category—the future of philosophy of religion—and then focus on the parts of the papers central to that category and ignore the other parts that don’t fit that template. This will not do justice to the complexity of the reality I am describing, but this procrustean practice is not unusual in philosophy of religion. Cette palette d’articles explore la thématique des ‘futurs possibles pour la philosophie des religions’. Bien que le champ de la philosophie des religions se soit aujourd’hui relativement rétréci, ces quatre articles tentent de l’élargir à nouveau et tous les quatre sont (au bénéfice de la thématique) tournés vers son devenir. Bien qu’ils couvrent des aspects différents de cette thématique, je vais les faire entrer dans cette catégorie préconçue —le futur de la philosophie des religions— et me focaliserai sur les parties des textes qui sont essentielles à cette catégorie pour en ignorer celles qui n’entrent pas dans ce cadre précis. Une telle approche ne saurait rendre compte de la complexité de la réalité que je décris, mais cette pratique de Procuste n’est point inhabituelle en philosophie des religions.

El tema de las competencias ha ganado un gran espacio de debate acerca del desarrollo humano en la actualidad. Este ha reeditado su introducción por D. McClelland en la Psicología de los años 70 con nuevas acepciones y usos que no siempre se ajustan a las exigencias de desarrollo de la Psicología como ciencia y profesión y tampoco a las demandas del perfeccionamiento de la educación, uno de los terrenos de mayor aplicación del concepto. El presente trabajo se plantea un análisis al respecto y persigue esclarecer las implicaciones conceptuales y prácticas del concepto. Se arriba a la conclusión, con argumentos diversos, de que el concepto de competencia, por una parte, tiene un contenido convencional que obedece a fines utilitarios e instrumentales, y por otra, que su empleo retrasa el desarrollo de la Psicología como ciencia y profesión. No obstante, el concepto puede ser utilizado en determinadas circunstancias, que son esclarecidas también. Las fuentes utilizadas para el análisis fueron las observaciones de la autora y la literatura publicada que conducen, a la vez, a un análisis histórico y cultural del término

O presente texto tem por objetivo analisar a problemática da discricionariedade judicial e o solipsismo filosófico a partir do Mito de Teseu, notadamente a partir do encontro deste herói grego com o sádico Procusto. Simbolicamente, Procusto configura a tirania intelectual exercida por pessoas que não toleram e nem aceitam as ações e os julgamentos alheios, desvelando-se como apólogo possível da intransigência atualmente revelada pelo solipsismo judicial, postura que cristaliza um quadro de discricionariedade judicial – fruto de certa resistência do paradigma positivista. Assim, buscaremos apontar para a superação desta postura solipsista, fundada em um sujeito transcendental, a partir da hermenêutica de Heidegger e Gadamer, matriz que permite, a partir do estabelecimento de certos padrões hermenêuticos, a preservação da autonomia e da coerência do direito.

A psicanálise, desde seus primeiros anos no Brasil, foi utilizada para o estudo de supostas singularidades características do sujeito nacional. Nos últimos trinta anos, aproximadamente, um boom de produções psicanalíticas sobre o brasileiro foram publicadas. A fim de compreender como nossos psicanalistas construíram suas conclusões, selecionamos algumas obras dando foco às referências utilizadas para suas respectivas fundamentações. Concluímos que nossos analistas têm buscado, para compreender os dilemas nacionais, referências do pensamento social brasileiro em comum, e, ao lerem tais referências não como interpretações, mas como “verdades”, acabam reproduzindo, no interior da psicanálise, ideologias que permeiam as obras dos pensadores que lhes servem como fonte.

Abstract:

Powdery mildew, caused by Podosphaera xanthii (syn. Sphaerotheca fuliginea auct. p.p.), is a serious and frequently occurring disease of cucurbits worldwide. Efficacy of four microbial products (i.e., Actinovate AG, Companion, BU EXP 1216C, and BU EXP 1216S), which contain microbes as the active ingredient, were evaluated on summer squash and cantaloupe against powdery mildew when applied alone or in alternation with a half-rate of conventional fungicide under greenhouse and field conditions. In greenhouse experiments, the product BU EXP 1216S significantly (P < 0.05) reduced the disease severity by nearly 70% relative to the water control. The level of control achieved was not significantly different from that obtained with Procure 480SC (triflumizole), the half-rate of conventional fungicide treatment, in two of four greenhouse experiments. Compared with the untreated water control, BU EXP 1216C and BU EXP 1216S, when applied alternately with Procure 480SC, consistently promoted plant growth measured by plant height, stem caliper, total fresh weight, and chlorophyll content in the leaves. The degree of increase was 11.6 and 11.3% in plant height, 15.6 and 19.8% in stem caliper, 25 and 40.7% in chlorophyll content, and 164 and 250% in total fresh weight, respectively. Alternating applications of these products with Procure 480SC resulted in significantly less powdery mildew disease than in the water control. In the first field trial on summer squash, all products applied individually or in alternation with Procure 480SC significantly reduced the severity of powdery mildew at the early stage (60 days after planting [DAP]) of disease development. Moreover, these alternating treatments resulted in significantly better control than with Procure 480SC alone at the late assessment stage (88 DAP). The products in alternation with Procure 480SC had a level of disease reduction equivalent to Procure 480SC alone on cantaloupe and significantly reduced disease severity in comparison with the water control. Compared with applying the microbial products alone, alternating applications of these products with Procure 480SC significantly reduced disease severity on cantaloupe and improved the marketable fruit number and weight. The data from our studies suggest that these microbial products could be effectively incorporated into disease management programs. In particular, these microbial products could be integrated into the management of powdery mildew on summer squash and cantaloupe in Florida by alternating their application with low rates of conventional fungicides, potentially reducing the development of fungicide resistance in the pathogen population.

Powdery mildew of cucurbits, caused by Podosphaera xanthii (syn. Sphaerotheca fuliginia auct. p.p. (Schltdl.) Pollacci), is a common and often severe disease in most areas of the world. Field trials were conducted with cantaloupe to compare disease management success provided by conventional fungicides and biofungicides having different inherent efficacies and modes of action, when applied alone throughout the treatment period or as components of fungicide application programs. Additionally, the portion of total disease control provided by each component fungicide within selected rotational programs was determined. When applied alone throughout the treatment period, disease severity in 2008 and 2009 compared with nontreated plants was reduced by values of 100, 99.3, and 98.1% by wettable sulfur (Microthiol Disperss), triflumizole (Procure), and quinoxyfen (Quintec), respectively; 83.9, 76.4, and 57.4% by trifloxystrobin (Flint), pyraclostrobin (Cabrio), or azoxystrobin (Quadris), respectively; and 39.8, 31.1, 30.0, and 28.6% by thiophanate-methyl (Topsin M), potassium bicarbonate (Kaligreen), kresoxim-methyl (Sovran), and Bacillus subtilis (Serenade), respectively. Rotational application programs composed of Microthiol Disperss, Procure, and Quintec reduced powdery mildew severity on cantaloupe by 97.5 to 100% in both trials. In comparison, disease reduction of 86.0 to 100% was achieved when the first and third fungicide applications were Quintec or Procure and the second and fourth applications were Cabrio, Flint, Kaligreen, Quadris, Serenade, Sovran, or Topsin M. In field trials designed to elucidate the portion of total disease control provided by each component fungicide within a rotational program, application sequences of Procure, Streptomyces lydicus (Actinovate), Procure, and Actinovate or Procure, Kaligreen, Procure, and Kaligreen resulted in reductions in powdery mildew severity of 69.1 and 78.7%, respectively. In comparison, inclusion of only the two Procure applications brought about a mean disease reduction of 85%, whereas inclusion of only the two Actinovate or Kaligreen applications reduced the level of powdery mildew control to 17.6 and 12.9%, respectively. The usefulness of fungicides with low inherent efficacy as resistance management partners when applied with highly efficacious at-risk fungicides may be questioned; however, the importance of any fungicide as a resistance management partner should be measured by its ability to dilute the selection pressure of the at-risk fungicide and to inhibit the growth of any resistant biotypes that may arise, factors which may not be reflected by its inherent efficacy in controlling disease. Because less efficacious fungicides did not increase the overall level of disease control, encouraging growers and pest control advisors to incorporate them into powdery mildew treatment programs may be a challenge, because resistance management is not their top priority. An ongoing educational effort emphasizing the benefits of resistance management programs with respect to prolonging the effectiveness of single-site mode of action fungicides is essential.

Abstract:

This study was conducted to evaluate the sensitivity of cucurbit powdery mildew fungus (Podosphaera xanthii) to major fungicides used for managing this pathogen in the Midwestern United States. Fungicides azoxystrobin from the quinone outside inhibitors group, cyflufenamid from the phenylacetamide group, penthiopyrad from the succinate dehydrogenase inhibitors group, quinoxyfen from the quinolines group, and triflumizole from the demethylation inhibitors group were tested for their effectiveness for preventing infection of cucurbits by P. xanthii. In 2015 and 2016, 37 isolates of P. xanthii were evaluated for their sensitivity to azoxystrobin (Quadris 2.08SC), cyflufenamid (Torino 0.85SC), penthiopyrad (Fontelis 1.67SC), and triflumizole (Procure 480SC) on cucumber ‘Bush Crop’ cotyledon leaves. The number of isolates sensitive to tested concentrations of Quadris 2.08SC, Torino 0.85SC, Fontelis 1.67SC, and Procure 480SC was 8 (22%), 21 (57%), 20 (54%), and 23 (62%), respectively. During 2015 to 2018, Quadris 2.08SC, Torino 0.85SC, Fontelis 1.67SC, quinoxyfen (Quintec 250SC), and Procure 480SC were tested for their effectiveness for managing powdery mildew on pumpkin ‘Howden’ in the field. The results showed that powdery mildew was effectively managed in the plots treated with Procure 480SC and Quintec 250SC. However, management of the disease was less successful in the plots treated with Quadris 2.08SC, Torino 0.85SC, and Fontelis 1.67SC.
