Gersch, Inka. "Producer organizations and contract farming: a comparative study of smallholders’ market strategies in South India." Zeitschrift für Wirtschaftsgeographie 62, no. 1 (2018): 14–29. http://dx.doi.org/10.1515/zfw-2017-0026.

Abstract:
Abstract The fundamental restructuring processes of agri-food networks in developing and emerging markets have intensified the debate on how to improve the integration of smallholders into so called modern value chains. In this context, the company-driven contract farming model and the member-based model of producer organizations are discussed by practitioners and in the scholarly literature as alternatives to traditional market systems. This study compares the models’ abilities to address economic challenges of highly fragmented and small-scale dominated agriculture on a household as well as on an aggregate level. It analyzes empirical data from the Indian floriculture sector with the global value chain approach. The study reveals that the smallholders perceive both contract farming and producer organization to be beneficial for their households’ economic risk situation, while only the producer organization has a positive effect on the households’ income. The contract farming benefits production and value chain efficiency, whereas the producer organization does not show an impact in these respects. We thus observe that the contract farming model increases value creation in the overall chain, but it does not raise the producer’s value capture; while the producer organization model does not heighten value creation in the overall chain, but it lifts the producers’ value capture. The organization’s individual capabilities determine how each model addresses the economic challenges. Overall, the author argues that contract farming and producer organizations are supplementing, not competitive, strategies and should be applied in combination.

Abstract:
The aim of this article was to present changes on the domestic fruit and vegetable market, which were observed after Poland’s accession to the European Union. The change in consumer behaviour and the need to adapt the offer to the increasing market requirements caused the need to take measures enhancing the competitiveness of horticulturists. One of them is the integration of producers. The authors presented changes in the organization of fruit and vegetable producers in Poland in 2004–2017. It was noticed that the Polish horticulturists prefer the southern European model of market organization, consisting in the existence of many small producer groups/organizations. In Poland after 2012, the number of fruit and vegetable producer groups/organizations and the number of members associated in them decreased. Fruit and vegetable producers by establishing the group most often indicated a neutral possibility of selecting the product category, including both fruits and vegetables in their offer. It was noticed that the groups that were liquidated were mostly homogeneous – they offered either fruits or vegetables. Attention is paid to the increase in of integration among mushroom producers. Mushrooms became one of the most important export products. Despite the shrinking number of producer organizations, those remaining on the market are characterized by a relatively stable market power. Changes in the number of producer organizations were larger than changes in the market share.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT: We assert that some forms of opportunistic behavior within the organization are relatively transparent and, therefore, public in nature. Further, while organizations can tightly control such public opportunism, it may not be optimal for them to do so in the presence of private opportunism. To study how public and private forms of opportunism differ and interact, we jointly examine budget and effort behavior in a participative budgeting experiment. We group participants into producer/manager pairs and set the parameters such that the producer extracts the largest share of surplus from the manager by publicly setting the budget at zero and privately providing low effort. When the producer unilaterally sets the budget, the public opportunism of budgetary slack is higher and more affected by learning than the private opportunism of low effort. Giving the manager the power to reject the budget not only reduces budgetary slack by about 50 percent, but also generates reciprocity expectations and behavior. In particular, managers who allow more budgetary slack expect and receive higher effort from their producers on average. This reciprocity increases organizational performance by increasing the expected pay of the manager without decreasing the expected pay of the producer.

Joining the European Union Hungarian producers have advantages but they need to solve some problems too. Only those producers can compete who will be able to produce extra quality milk. However the circumstances of milk production are not up to the task. The author examined the work organization of 7 dairy farms in Hajdú-Bihar County. Data were collected about the situation of farms, equipment of barns, objets of production, work force, qualification of workers, and productivity of work. He examined the applied motivation methods at farms. He concluded that as the number of cows per farm increases work productivity increases too. From the examination it appeared that family farms applied different motivation system from bigger producer organizations. The author put forward proposals for motivation possibilities to improve milk quality, atmosphere, and general feeling of workers.

Abstract:
In this paper the authors examine the subcontracting behaviour of producer service firms in a peripheral metropolitan city. The objective of this empirical investigation is to uncover spatial and organizational linkages of producer services that have developed in response to changes in the industrial organization of a modern capitalist production system. The focus is on three types of linkages, namely subcontracting, inputs of producer services, and inputs of goods and final services. The data collected through a survey of producer services in Edmonton reveal that subcontracting rather than internalization is the main mode of production. Therefore the producer service sector can play an important role as a supplier of indigenous higher-order services and innovations, inducing better productivity rates in other industrial sectors including resource-oriented local producers.

Abstract:
An evolutionary continuum on which a modern and mature road administration develops is proposed. The five phases that appear necessary in this evolution are outlined: (a) the establishment of traditional construction and maintenance organization, (b) separation of client and producer functions, (c) separation of client and producer organizations, (d) corporatization or privatization of the producer organization, and (e) corporatization of the (client) road administration. The change management process—the framework process and its constituent cores— is addressed. The framework process is the flow of activities in change management when they move from one organizational phase to another. The core activities are those that the road administration must address in the change process. Both of these are discussed in detail. It is asserted that a quick reorganization of road administrations is neither possible nor desirable. The exact path to be taken depends critically on the initial conditions from which the road administration embarks on its development path.

Abstract:
The ‘Qasab’ case is designed to teach students about the characteristics of social entrepreneurship and the impact it has on the society. It also describes how sustainable development and social innovation are interlinked. ‘Qasab’ was an organization whose main focus was to preserve the traditional art of the Kutch region. The case describes the genesis and the journey of ‘Qasab,’ how it preserved the traditional art forms, and the personality traits of Pankaj Shah (the social entrepreneur who started ‘Qasab’). The case talks about the problems faced by the artisans in the region, which led to the formation of this social venture. Also, it touches upon the HR challenges faced by a social entrepreneur. At the time this case was written, ‘Qasab’ had become a collective enterprise comprising 1,200 rural master craftswomen from 11 ethnic communities spread across 62 villages in the arid interiors of Kutch and has been formally structured and registered as a ‘Producer Company’ owned by traditional craftswomen. ‘Qasab’ included different communities such as — ‘Mutwa’, ‘Sodha Rajput’, ‘Jat-Daneta’, ‘Meghwal’, ‘Sindhi Memon’, ‘DhebariyaRabari’, ‘KacchiRabari’, ‘Ahir’, ‘Halepotra’, ‘Sumra,’‘Hingorja’ and ‘Pathan’ — that had distinct embroidery styles and emphasized maintaining these styles (since the embroideries were an integral part of their cultural identity) — to preserve their unique identities. ‘Qasab’ was known for its outstanding quality of authentic Kutch embroidery, appliqué and patchwork products, its hallmark being traditional motifs reflecting the cultural identity of each community in contemporary designs through items of premium quality. ‘Qasab’ had made artisans stakeholders in the organization and was able to preserve the distinct art of each community. The case is based on the theme of social entrepreneurship and analyzes the process of the emergence of such enterprises, their importance and the factors that lead to their success and sustainability. Students can assess how these organizations are different from other types of organizations. The case should help students to find the parameters that show that social innovation and sustainable development are interlinked. The case can be used to study the business model of social innovation.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine why and when followers of transformational leaders exhibit increased affective organizational commitment. Particularly, the authors examined the role played by perceived organizational support (POS) and supervisor’s organizational embodiment (SOE), i.e. a perception concerning the extent to which employees identify their supervisor with the organization, in this relationship. Design/methodology/approach – In total, 287 employees of a water producer organization responded to a questionnaire. Findings – The results show that, when employees strongly identify their supervisor with the organization, transformational leadership is positively related to POS, with positive consequences in terms of emotional attachment to this organization. In contrast, when the supervisor is not identified to the organization, his/her transformational leadership does not extend to POS and, finally, to affective organizational commitment. Practical implications – The findings suggest that a high transformational leadership and a high SOE together engender the highest POS and affective commitment. Organizations should thus provide their managers with training programs and feedbacks over their performance as leaders to promote transformational leadership. Furthermore, to foster perceptions of SOE, organizations might implement socialization tactics aiming to strengthen managers’ organizational identification or person-organization fit, and give managers more power and influence in their day-to-day work to increase employees’ attributions of informal organizational status to managers. Originality/value – By showing that POS and SOE are important mechanisms in the transformational leadership-affective commitment relationship, this research explains why and when transformational leadership of supervisors has spillover effect on organization-directed attitudes.

Abstract:
Use of improved seeds has a vital role in enhancing agricultural production. Agriculture extension has implemented farmers’ managed seed multiplication program at the community level to ensure efficient supply of improved seeds. Several success and failure cases of seed multiplication through farmers' organizations were experienced. Therefore, a case study was conducted in the western terai region of Nepal to explore the factors responsible for success/failure of farmers' organizations involved in seed production. The results of the study found that internal factors of group, nature of extension support, quality control mechanism, and seed marketing approaches are the key elements, which affect the performance of farmers' organizations- seed groups and cooperatives. It was also observed that organizations developed in farmers' own initiatives performed better than those formed in external influence. The results of this research suggest that the autonomy of group actions has long term impact on ownership development. Business skills, technical skills and organizational management skills were equally important for the viability of farmers' organizations so far as seed business is concerned. Abstract:
Despite early initiatives during the 1960s and 1970s, and continuing efforts ever since, the Baltic Sea remains in poor condition. The Helsinki Commission (HELCOM) is the governing body tasked with protecting the marine environment from further deterioration through intergovernmental collaboration between the Baltic Sea states and the EU. In 2007, HELCOM launched a new tool – the Baltic Sea Action Plan (BSAP), of which the so-called ecosystem approach is a cornerstone. However, how and why the BSAP reform was launched, and also what consequences such management reforms can have for transboundary resource management, is unknown. By using institutional theory, organizational theory and the advocacy coalition framework, in combination with content analysis of official documents derived from HELCOM, this thesis argues that the BSAP is the end result of a gradual process of change within institutional structures and actor beliefs. This thesis also shows that HELCOM's capacity to detect, process, and react in response to changes in its regulatory objective has not changed as a consequence of the BSAP. In contrast to earlier research, it seems HELCOM responds better to slow and opaque changes than to quick and visible ones. Finally, by comparing HELCOM with two other similar cases, the thesis shows that HELCOM's adaptive capacity could be improved in line with the recommendations of the ecosystem approach. This thesis illustrates the importance of studying the emergence of new tools for governing transboundary resources from several theoretical perspectives. The thesis uses an innovative quantitative content analysis and concludes that new methods might be required to enable such studies. The different perspectives used here give various explanations concerning the causes and consequences of the BSAP. In a future Baltic Sea, where environmental changes are likely to be abrupt, a multitude of understandings regarding the governance of the Baltic Sea will be crucial.

At the time of the doctoral defense, the following papers were unpublished and had a status as follows: Paper 2: Submitted. Abstract:
Restrictions on the production of oil practiced by oil exporting countries under the auspices of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has been the subject of contentions and debates over time. One of the dimensions of this discourse is in relation to the possible violation of the obligations stipulated by the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) by members of OPEC who are also members of the World Trade Organization (WTO). This research examines the issues arising therein as production restrictions and quantitative restrictions are analysed. It considers whether these production restrictions on oil qualifies as quantitative restrictions prohibited by Article XI of the GATT 1994 and as such whether oil exporting members of the WTO are in violation of the provisions of the GATT. The question hinges upon the classification of production restrictions, whether it falls under the same category as quantitative restrictions. This is based on the premise that the language employed in the regulations prohibits measures relating to the importation and exportation of goods; which leads this research to ascertain if production restrictions affect oil ready for importation or exportation. The concept of sovereigntyis intertwined in this discourse as oil exporting countries raise this as a defence, quoting the exclusive right to exploit their resources devoid of external influence or pressure. Membership of an international organization on the other hand indicates that a measure of sovereignty has been transferred through consent in becoming part of the organization and this inputs a level of responsibility and to an extent dictates certain expectations. For OPEC member countries that are also members of the WTO this expectation is not clear-cut as no mention is specifically made to oil resources in the text of the WTO regulations. Presumptions abound on the rationale for this perceived exclusion. From the notion that a ‘Gentleman’s Agreement’ was reached by the initial contracting parties of the Trade Organization to the perception that oil exploration and trade at that time was in the domain of the western world while the majority of the current exporters were colonies and as such did not have a say in trade discussions relating to the exploration of their natural resource. Moreover the peculiarities of this commodity inversely positions it in the international trade regime as it is devoid of the market access challenge which the international organization on trade set out to overcome through its furtherance on trade liberalization. No doubt the bias for import restrictions as against export restrictions by the organization based on the prevailing circumstances during its establishment makesloopholes in the strict interpretation of the provisions that border on export restrictions inevitable. This study therefore strives to analyse these surrounding issues and goes further to consider the relationship between oil exporting countries and their importing counterparts as it argues that the contention on production restrictions and quantitative restrictions transcend the interpretation of the provisions that are in contention. This is based on the notion that the relationship between members of an international organization is the pivot that determines the functionality of the regulations binding members. Thus where a viable relationship thrives, the operations of the organization will be at its peak and the interpretation and application of the letters of the regulations will not be in contention ‘stricto sensu’. This is the rationale behind the proposition by this study that theories of international relations especially that of liberalism is key in understanding and improving the relationship between oil exporting and importing countries. This work advocates that this is achievable under the auspices of the WTO based on its formidable qualities.

Abstract:
This thesis draws on the concept of product stewardship and its focus on incorporating all of the actors in a product’s lifecycle into steps to take responsibility for waste management. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) recognizes the producer’s distinct potential to consider and drive change in waste management. Producers often serve like mediators between the design and use phases of a product’s lifecycle. Through EPR policies, the producer takes on the costs of ensuring safe end-of-life waste disposal. In this way, EPR can be expected to help relieve the public of some of the costs of waste disposal, and to support consideration of social and environmental impacts that a product may incur. This thesis examines EPR policy adoption and effectiveness in order to understand its ability to meet its theoretical expectations. Exploring the consideration and implementation of EPR policy measures, and particularly a case study of these policies in California, this thesis identifies several emerging challenges and trends that define openness to, and the success of, EPR. EPR policy proposals often encounter resistance that limits their strength and reach. In order to realize the full potential benefits of EPR, regulatory bodies will need to wholeheartedly support competition and enforcement to preserve the incentives within these policies. This thesis suggests that EPR still holds strong potential to bring together the social, environmental, and economic costs of waste management, both in theory and in practice, and offers broad recommendations for efforts to support this alignment.

Although some companies already present solutions to serve consumers who wish to discard their products, the goals imposed by Brazilian legislation represent a great challenge to be faced by individual companies, in addition it brings a scenario of uncertainties and high costs for management. To conduct this work, a qualitative exploratory and descriptive research was carried out, through a documentary analysis, bibliographic research and interviews. At first, the WEEE Take Back system of different countries were analysed, in order to identify a reference case which was the object of an in-depth case study. The case in question was the Swiss system, recognized as the first to be implemented in the world, in addition to being structured differently from the others and presenting one of the highest collection rates of WEEE per inhabitant in the world. Next, the brazilian scenario is presented indicating how companies, manufacturers of Electrical and Electronics Equipments, are organizing themselves to structure their systems of Reverse Logistics in the country. In the conduction of this work, semi-structured questionnaires were applied to the representatives of the Swiss Management Entities (PROs), in addition to the analysis of documents and reports published by these institutions. We also consulted several articles in the literature, which were the subsidy to compare data obtained from primary sources. In general, it can be concluded that the structuring of collective systems to operationalize reverse logistics brings benefits both to the company and to the efficiency of the system. It is also recommended to create more than one PRO to take care of specific groups of products, which require different logistics operations. In this way, these PROs can become specialized in a certain logistics operation, optimizing the process and reducing costs for their associates. Finally, it is suggested that a cooperation must exist between these Management Entities, aiming at the exchange of experiences and the joint construction of requirements and quality standards for the whole system.

Abstract:
As television viewers we are used to watching television as a flow of programs with varying content, and usually do not think about how the programs are created. Who decides what should be produced and what the programs should contain? What role do the TV producers play? Who are the producers? Have their working conditions changed due to changes in society? The aim of this study was to answer questions about the TV producer’s background and career, and about how ideas for TV productions developed into actual TV programs. The study resulted in more than 90 “cases” or descriptions in drama and journalism. The respondents were asked about the role that different levels of management, economic resources, technical equipment, audience ratings played in the production of television programs. They were also asked how they evaluated professionalism and competition and what changes had occurred during the periods of the study, 1992-1999 and 2006-07. The TV producers who were interviewed belonged to different “generations” and had entered the television industry on different occasions, such as at the launch of television channels (the first TV channel, TV2, TV4) or new ventures like regional television or minority language programs. The drama producers often executed the ideas that had been decided on by higher management, even though some drama authors who participated in this study had great power over the story lines and content. The journalist producer’s independence and power over the content were greater than the drama producer’s, since they wrote their own “scripts” during the production of programs. In light of many “cases” of programs described it can be suggested that journalist producers’ choice of program ideas were parallel and complementary or alternative institutional processes, that preceded, followed or coexisted with reports, investigations, trials etc. One of the most obvious changes during the period studied from 1992 to 2007 was the change in overall technology from analog techniques to digital. Internet, intranets, e-mail and cell phones had made “the mobile office” a reality and the analog techniques in cameras and editing in TV production became digital during the period.

About this respect, the child‟s activity and its learning ability; the school as a mediation, choice and experience place; and the mediator teacher‟s action as a creator of mediator links to the written language appropriation are considered. In order that, the discussions appeal to theoretical supporters which adequate among them, the cultural-historical Theory was chosen as the cornerstone for all other proposals that deal with the classroom as mediator teaching and collaborative learning space (via project methodology ) and the guarantee for the schoolchild‟s co-participation in his own formation as a reader and producer‟s text. The techniques application of action research, in turn, was supported on the historical materialist dialectical focus, the historical cultural theory philosophical foundation. Thus, the analysis of collected data in a consistent way with the chosen theory and guided by its concepts generated some discussion concerning to the teaching and learning mediated by the written language in meaningful contexts and the contributions of these mediator instruments to the human development. In conclusion of this study, we can say that having the man as a parameter so that the educational task provides ...(Complete abstract click electronic address below)
Mestre

Abstract:
The Eurasian Economic Community (EEC) is an international organization that has been created by five Commonwealth of İndependent States countries (Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan) on October 10th,2000. The object of this organization was promote the creation of a customs union and the common economic space. After ten years in 2010, three countries (Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan) made a custom union agreement as a second step. And the target is to establish a common economic space by 1 January 2012, a single market for goods, investment and labor. This custom union creates a common market of 170 million people with a $2 trillion economy, $900 billion trade and 90 billion barrels of oil reserves. This three countries have a strategic geopolitical position, rich producer goods reserves:especially oil and natural gas. The economic structure of this three countries can be explain as consumer goods importer, producer goods exporter. This is the exact opposite of European Union economic structure. Therefore, this paper argues that The Eurasian Economic Community would be a good foreign trade market alternative of EU for Turkey. Hence this paper tries to analyse the trade opportunities of this market for Turkey’s export. This paper based on the statistical foreign trade datas of relevant countries.

Abstract:
Staying competitive in today’s fast changing markets and business environments has become a big issue in organizations these days. To be able to foresee the future of the industry and have insight into customer’s articulated and unarticulated needs are critical capabilities that organizations need to acquire in order to stay competitive. The objective of this research project is to provide a conceptual approach to analyze an organization and to provide a foundation that would support the architecture of an agile organization. Enterprise architecture, business capabilities, organizational analysis and innovation are the main practices that contribute towards the construction of capabilities and the development of the conceptual business capability framework. The most significant findings from this research study were the development of a conceptual framework that is later utilized to construct business capabilities. A business capability model has also been produced to visually depict a business capability. This study also provided two feedback loops, namely the organizational feedback loop and the innovative feedback loop.

Abstract:
Collective innovation is based on connected, open, and collaborative processes to generate, develop, prioritize, and execute new ideas. While collective innovation is gaining significant attention by organizations, research on fundamental understanding of mechanisms enabling collective innovation is still in its infancy. One of the questions in enabling successful collective product innovation is: “How can activities of a large number of independent participants be coordinated?” Various researchers have studied coordination problems in traditional product realization processes, where the emphasis is on managing the dependencies between activities and resources. However, existing approaches for coordinating product development have limited applicability for collective product innovation because they are based on self-organizing communities as opposed to traditional hierarchies. To address this limitation, there is a need to understand how self-organization based coordination can be achieved in collective product innovation. In this paper, two key aspects of self-organization based coordination are highlighted: decentralization and evolution. A conceptual framework for understanding self-organization based coordination in collective product innovation is discussed. The framework highlights the dependencies between products, processes, individuals and organizational structures, which are important for coordination in collective product innovation. Various coordination mechanisms are required to manage these dependencies, thereby achieving decentralized, evolutionary coordination. For illustrative purposes, examples of such mechanisms used in open-source software development are discussed. Finally, an agent-based model is presented to quantitatively study the mechanisms for achieving decentralized evolutionary coordination. The conceptual framework and the agent-based model are used to derive insights for designing novel coordination mechanisms.

Abstract:
The need to exchange information between organizations or departments of the same corporation is hampered by interoperability problems that mostly originate from the necessity to comply with diverse standards while using dissimilar applications. Each organization generally uses different standards (both local and international) for products which they produce or use. The differences and similarities of these standards, or gaps and overlaps between these standards create problems when exchanging product information through the product life cycle. Defining gaps and overlaps for these standards will help us better understand the interoperability issues. This will aid in the development of strategies for reducing interoperability problems, thus improving efficient information exchange. In this study, we present different approaches for comparing standards and for identifying gaps and overlaps in standards. A Matrix–based evaluation mechanism developed for this purpose is also described.

Abstract:
Business strategies and organization are subject to a permanent adjustment due to the discontinuity of the markets. Mass production, in particular, and a focus on tayloristic principles, in general, no longer seem to be the right choice within this context. Rather, the increasing importance of customization and the transition to an information-based economy leads to the question whether the currently enshrined distinction between producer and consumer is still appropriate. The authors of this paper assume that the key to dealing with complex economic turbulences can be found in the implementation of a new form of coordination, in which the strict separation between producer and consumer is repealed. That requires changeability at all levels of production systems as it is inherent to the approach of “Open Production” that will be introduced with this paper. While Open Production encompasses recent concepts like “Open Innovation”, “Mass Customization”, and “e-Manufacturing”, the three “pillars” of Open Production are openness, individualization and web integration. Additionally it implies a superior broker system that coordinates the information and material flows between the stakeholders of open production. This represents a completely new, but profoundly changeable form of coordination integrating the customers into production directly, where as the previously static separation into a customer and a corporate domain and the division of labor and competence is dissolved.

Abstract:
Abstract In recent years, the concept of reusing products has received significant attention in academia as a means for reducing society’s negative impact on the environment. In fact, due to a number of both economic and environmental advantages to product reuse, some authors have proposed a larger role for reuse within society. In order to achieve an expanded role for product reuse, it will first be necessary to integrate remanufacturing capabilities into original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) such that reuse can be carefully planned by both product and process design. However, the implementation of OEM reuse is currently limited to the few examples that exist today by several barriers. These barriers include the problem of incomplete incentives due to the product disposal externality, the trends in production towards rapid innovation and mass customization, and the fact that remanufacture presents a fundamentally new set of challenges that producers are not prepared to deal with. It is our belief that reuse will not play a larger role in society until producers have both the incentives and ability to implement remanufacture given their business conditions. Providing this capability and these incentives will require a better understanding of how different factors impact remanufacturing operations within an OEM. This understanding can be provided through the improved modeling of remanufacture. In this work, a motivation and an algorithm for modeling how product design characteristics, product development strategies, and different business conditions impact remanufacturing viability is presented. The authors’ implementation of this model is described and the model is used to study a family of single use camera products over an eleven-year period in order to gain insight from a successful OEM remanufacturer.

Abstract:
Traditionally security has been the pervasive factor in organizational growth but its importance has surpassed that of any other issue in retaining a competitive advantage. Security is, therefore, of paramount importance in the retention of organizational innovation. The key in building a secure environment lies in an organizations ability to react to changing threats both from within and external to the case. The objective of security is to protect corporate knowledge as well that of the tangible asset. It is ironic that to secure knowledge the organization must expand its knowledge of security. To this end universities are currently striving to produce educational programmes to meet industrial demand for this core requirement. The amalgamation of theoretical research and industrial practice in Third level programmes is vital to ensure ongoing industrial support for academia. To this end the case under investigation strives to produce IT graduates with the ability to utilize theoretical knowledge, particularly of security, in a practitioners domain. The construction and implementation of any course is very much emergent, given the unique institutional nature of academic programmes. This paper conducts an analysis of an approach in delivering practical, as well as theoretical, knowledge of security, using a unique project to enable the learners to utilize the theoretical knowledge gained through the classroom.

The Polish film system is characterized by a variety of forms. Michał Zabłocki, the author of the comprehensive study of the «Organization of the production of feature film in Poland», isolates two models of world cinema: a producer and a producer – director. The first one features the dominant role of the producer, which means the person who is responsible for the work of all the film departments – direction, cinematography, production management, scenography and costume design. The second one, the model which is still the most popular in Poland, assumes close cooperation between the producer and the director.

Hamill, Daniel, and Gabrielle David. Hydrologic analysis of field delineated ordinary high water marks for rivers and streams. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/41681.

Full text
Abstract:
Streamflow influences the distribution and organization of high water marks along rivers and streams in a landscape. The federal definition of ordinary high water mark (OHWM) is defined by physical and vegetative field indicators that are used to identify inundation extents of ordinary high water levels without any reference to the relationship between streamflow and regulatory definition. Streamflow is the amount, or volume, of water that moves through a stream per unit time. This study explores regional characteristics and relationships between field-delineated OHWMs and frequency-magnitude streamflow metrics derived from a flood frequency analysis. The elevation of OHWM is related to representative constant-level discharge return periods with national average return periods of 6.9 years using partial duration series and 2.8 years using annual maximum flood frequency approaches. The range in OHWM return periods is 0.5 to 9.08, and 1.05 to 11.01 years for peaks-over-threshold and annual maximum flood frequency methods, respectively. The range of OHWM return periods is consistent with the range found in national studies of return periods related to bankfull streamflow. Hydraulic models produced a statistically significant relationship between OHWM and bank-full, which reinforces the close relationship between the scientific concept and OHWM in most stream systems.
