We develop a tractable general equilibrium model that captures the interplay between nominal long-term corporate debt, inflation, and real aggregates. We show that unanticipated inflation changes the real burden of debt and, more significantly, leads to a debt overhang that distorts future investment and production decisions. For these effects to be both large and very persistent, it is essential that debt maturity exceeds one period. We also show that interest rate rules can help stabilize our economy. I measure bank leverage constraints using bank-intermediated basis trades. This study presents evidence that contracting is positively associated with the scale of production for six major U.S. agricultural commodities. Specifically, contract producers tend to operate at a larger scale than do independent producers, and the likelihood of an operation contracting increases with its scale. This relationship is strongest in the cattle and hog sectors, where it persists even among large commercial operations. Six theoretical explanations for the observed correlation between scale and contracting are proposed, including imperfect capital markets, contractor transaction co

Abstract Indonesia is the largest garlic importer in the world, relies on imports for over 95% of its garlic needs. To address this import dependence and meet domestic demands, the Government initiated the National Garlic Development Program. However, the program has yet to achieve the targeted production, even the development of garlic faces many obstacles that threaten its sustainability. The objectives of this study are as follows: (1) to determine the sustainability status of garlic production based on the dimensions of sustainability, and (2) to identify the leverage factors for the susta

Efforts to overcome the dependence on garlic imports in Indonesia by raising its production have not yet been achieved. Various challenges have emerged, threatening the sustainability of garlic production and escalating the annual volume of imports. It is imperative to evaluate the initiatives undertaken to ensure the sustainability of garlic production. To address the issue, this study assessed the sustainability of garlic production and identified the leverage factors affecting it. This study employed the Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) method by examining indicators across five dimensions. S

Can finance contribute to seafood sustainability? This is an increasingly relevant question given the projected growth of seafood markets and the magnitude of social and environmental challenges associated with seafood production. As more capital enters the seafood industry, it becomes crucial that investments steer the sector toward improved sustainability, as opposed to fueling unsustainable working conditions and overexploitation of resources. Using a mixed-methods approach, we map where different financial mechanisms are most salient along a seafood firm’s development trajectory and identi

This study examines factors affecting company performance on the Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange from 2008 to 2020, analyzing internal and external variables, including the Covid-19 pandemic's impact. Using data from 40 firms and macroeconomic indicators, advanced econometric models identify key determinants of Return on Assets (ROA). Findings suggest financial leverage and operating leverage enhance ROA, while asset size and consumer inflation have mixed effects. Industrial production positively correlates with ROA, whereas the pandemic negatively impacts corporate performance. These insights info

The article is devoted to the possibilities of planning the profit of a pharmacy enterprise based on the indicator of operating leverage. In the Ukrainian scientific literature, operational leverage in the management of the profitability of enterprises is studied quite poorly, there are no studies on the pharmaceutical industry at all. Forecasting the operational efficiency of an existing underground mine plays an important role in strategic planning of production. Degree of Operating Leverage (DOL) is used to express the operational efficiency of production. The forecasting model should be able to involve common time horizon, taking the characteristics of the input variables that directly affect the value of DOL. Changes in the magnitude of any input variable change the value of DOL. To establish the relationship describing the way of changing we applied multivariable grey modeling.
