Full textTwo notions will train this study: the linguistic loanword at first and the translation then. To approach them, we shall be interested in theoretical problems bound in semantic lexical and discursive to loosen the theoretical frames executives of these two subjects by taking support on authentic examples in both languages (French and Arabic). First of all we will wonder on the exact role of the loanword in the complex mechanism of the language. We shall begin to put the data of the problem, first of all, at the lexicological level where the contact will be made between the words and their morphosyntactic equivalents in the other language; it is the easiest case to analyze. Then, our analysis will widen at the discursive level, there, the speech will be faced in its complexity. Contrary to a generally accepted idea of the structuralism which presents the language as a static body, it is a changeable system which restores ceaselessly its damaged internal balances. Our analysis will be based on the praxématique theory which states that the reality and the language are inseparable. The loanword is a proof by its existence and its preservation that a new reality exists, since it consists in using a new element to characterize this very reality. Through the problems of the linguistic loan, we thus find problems connected to the language, to the lexicon and to the speech. Because the loan is the passage of the lexicon of a linguistic area to the other one, it also raises all the fundamental problems of the translation: here the discursive analysis is directly concerned. We shall thus be interested in the problem of the contacts of the languages, on the one hand, to the plan shot of the minimal unit which is the word, and on the other hand, to that of its updating in speech which is in the heart of the problem of the production of the sense direction

Full textThis work subscribes to a lexical and discursive method. The first part is dedicated to observations, definitions and descriptions of emotions and feelings. Then, we explore the psychological and linguistic dimensions of emotions. And finally, we confront emotional vocabulary to the test of textual data. We borrow from the praxematic some of its operational concepts that we use excerpts from a romantic novel by Stendhal, entitled The Red and Black. Our approach can be seen as a realistic and anthropological linguistics. We try to reflect the complexity and richness of the vocabulary of emotions and feelings. The analysis conducted showed that emotional praxemes are rich of meaning. They produce meaning through an underlying process. Apart from their relation to reality, these praxemes say intimacy, practical experience, emotional and relationship of love with each other. They represent how social relationships and love talk, this shows that the novelist operate, define and shape a whole system of meanings. The writer’s personal vision of emotions and feelings are embedded in this process. Emotions are a way for him to understand and feel the world in which he lives

Full textThis work aims at founding a theory - "indexicality of meaning" - that postulates a same nature for meaning and referent. Meaning and referent are based on "relations" we have to objects. Conversely, the notion of "object" -which generalizes the notion of referent-is defined as the focal point, deprived of + substance ;, of a potential infinity of such relations. Being so, the object is perceived and conceptualized as such without the means of descriptive and/or objective properties, by way of "direct conformation" to the permitted relations. This phenomenological thesis, directly inspired from a criticism of referentialism, leads to substituting "direct conformation" for classification, which is made possible by virtue of the notions "in intension" and "in extension". These notions allow for a new approach of the "evolving referent" problem. They also help characterizing metonymy, metaphor, and some uses of the french pronoun "il'. The sense of this pronoun is defined, by way of a notion of "individuation". Also, the noun and preposition classes are characterized, without the use of schematicity and compositionality. It appears then that the noun inherently underdetermines the object. The proper name class also is given a definition that accounts for its main properties. Finally, the theory is completed by the integration of homonymy. I two applications of the theory are proposed : the definition of the sense of the french prepositions a and de, and the characterization of the two uses of the french verb commencer (analogous to : to begin doing something vs. To begin something). It appears that the methodological requirement of linguistic motivation accounts for the accuracy of the results

Full textNormal aging is associated with cognitive difficulties in many domains except for language, which is still under debate. However, older adults report difficulties in lexical production, which are also known to be associated with pathological aging, such as Alzheimer’s disease. This work aimed first to characterize the changes in the cognitive processes involved in lexical production using a behavioral approach, then to characterize the associated neurofunctional and vascular changes using fMRI. In the first study including 72 healthy participants, aged between 30 and 84 years, we showed a differential aging effect on lexical production and semantic processing. Naming was well preserved in terms of competences in normal aging; nevertheless, it was affected by the general cognitive slowdown. However, semantic processing was more affected by aging, probably due to inefficient executive control. The second study using fMRI confirmed these results and suggested the establishment of compensatory mechanisms to overcome cognitive difficulties. Finally, in the third study using vascular fMRI we described basal and functional cerebral perfusion modifications in normal aging as well as at early stages of pathological aging. We showed a strong relationship between the hemodynamical properties and the cognitive abilities. This multidisciplinary approach combining behavioral, neuropsychological, neurofunctional and cerebral perfusion imaging studies, provided a more complete picture of cerebral and cognitive changes in lexical production during normal aging

Full textThe classical terminology, issued from the vienna school, is founded on four strong principles which are the result of a normalization necessity. This necessity leads to study the term like a different denomination from the sign in natural language. We propose four hypothesis showing that the term is a denomination, but its specificity comes from its pragmatic context. Consequently to this, we are able to open the study of the terminological change to a semantic approach

Full textSince ancient times, the name-noun has been a focal point for discussion, where linguistic qqueries on language meet philosophical ones, concrned with the relation between through and world. Envisaging nomination, and not denomination, i. E. The process of nominal production of meaning instead of its mere effects, requires deconstructing the inherited position. The recurrences which appear in the bible, in ancient greeks texts, or more generally within mythica throught, allow one to propose an archetype of the name-noun, which continues to influence our spontaneous representations or our metalinguistical understanding. According to this doxa, the "distinctive feature of the name-noum consists of enunciating "what is" : a traditional definition of the substantive in grammar books. This ontological statu leads to two essentializing interpretations of the object, designated en soi; in the first (immanentist) interpretation noun indicates the substance, and in the second (transcendental), the essence itself. The prohibition of all questions t with the origin of languages, mentioned in the founding act of the societe de linguistique de paris, followed by the principle of the arbitrary of the sign, renew this ideology both from institutional and theoretical points of view. However, analysing the name-noun in lexical or discrusive semantics, obliges one to take the real into account. The notion of a praweme as a "nomination tool", is based on an anthropological position and its materialistic component. The praxeme states that the designation of the object is in fact a representation of the relation with the object. This move seems fundamental in that it leads to the recognition of an expression of social or idiosyncratic praxis, of projections of the subject and of the dialogism of its relations to others, within the name-noun itself. It aslo means reconsidering the denotation connotation distribution and accepting the presence of constituents of meaning within the name-noun, an aspect which was insufficiently analysed until now : associations of ideas open to the imaginary, some

Full textThe way brands and products are named is more frequently analyzed by economic or law studies, than it is by linguistics. We propose such a linguistic study, firstly concerning the ‘power’ and ‘nature’ of such names through (i) the ‘magic’ functions of language (in anthropology, rhetorics, pragmatics and Jackobson's works), (ii) the various comprehensions of the nominal category in general and proper names in particular, by presenting the frozen point of view of classical linguistics then more progressive and dynamic ones, such as the praxematics. Then we synthetize the general presentation of brandnames and products names in French linguistic studies and discuss the analysis held so far under this problematic. The second chapter deals with the concepts of ‘name’ and ‘brand’ and their relationships with the economical, juridical and commercial world so as we might be able to understand the mechanisms and stakes of its use in advertising. The third chapter joins the two studies for the analyze of a corpus. We examine i) how contextualization influences the meaning, (ii) how the creation of those specific names alternate between respecting and disrespecting linguistic rules, (iii) the particuliarities of brands and products names vs prototypical proper names that help for the creation of what should be regarderd as a linguistic hybrid, (iv) we analyze the dialectical relationship between the « Même » (same: considering a social group, in which the enunciator feels legitimate) and the « Autre » (other: considering a social group that is different, opposed to the enunciator) to underline and study an untypical dialogism: the one applied to names and names only. Eventually, we present a large scale computer assisted analysis wich is based on a huge amount of brandnames and products names registred to the list of the National Institute of Undustrial Property between 1961 and 2003, thanks to a research agreement. We can then study the recurrence of letters (i. E. Phonological patterns), figures and special features, the proportion of neologisms, graphic and semantic evolutions along times

Full textThe hypothesis supported in this work is that in Churcampa (Peruvian Andes), consumption of alcohol and drunkenness offer inhabitants a possibility of dialogue which would not otherwise exist, given the extreme hierarchical organisation of social relations. The author first brings to the fore the existence of rules which have to be respected while drinking and getting drunk, before underlining the obligatory character of these two behaviours. The description and the analysis of several contexts during which the inhabitants of Churcampa collectively drink alcohol lead her to envisage drinking as a form of exchange. In order to understand what such an exchange consists of, and with the aim of going beyond a purely materialistic and functionalist analysis, the perspective is widened and drinking is seen as a ritual phenomenon, then as a rite of passage. Finally the author demonstrates that beyond its “liminal” character, drunkenness can even reveal, in some cases, a sacrificial dimension. By taking the case of solitary drinkers victims of the violence of Shining Path’s militants and the army and then evoking the case of “protestants” who have chosen to stop drinking after their conversion and who seem to maintain relations with little hierarchy, the author concludes that her starting hypothesis only applies, in the final count, on the one hand, to collective and festive drinking, and, on the other hand, to unequal and hierarchical predominantly catholic communities of Churcampa

Full textTo speak is a deliberate action, and is therefore under cognitive control. Partly overlapping brain regions have been associated to linguistic and non-linguistic cognitive control mechanisms. However, language has generally been considered in isolation from other cognitive functions. The existence of common control mechanisms has hardly been studied. Our approach was to clarify this point by contributing to the characterization of the largely unknown brain dynamics of lexical selection and speech monitoring. We developed a methodology enabling to study these processes using electro-encephalography and -myography in healthy speakers. Importantly, we were able to successfully reduce articulation-related EMG artifacts in the EEG signal. After enhancing the spatial resolution of the EEG signal, we identified a spatio-temporal sequence of activities from visual inputs to speech output. We then investigated the role of these activities in 2 studies focused on the control mechanisms of interest. A left frontal activity reaching its maximum at the beginning of response execution was specifically associated to lexical selection. By contrast, a set of fronto-medial activities reaching their maximum before and after the response were associated to domain-general selection and monitoring mechanisms. Our results lead to reconsider the specificity of cognitive control mechanisms involved in language production. They suggest at least part of these mechanisms are common to language and non-linguistic actions

Full textThe thesis claims to describe the unconscious system in 6 of Rachid Boudjedra's novels edited in French language, through a semiology of the linguistic sign which has two major poles: a significant symbolic side and an imaginary one leading to the latent or the unknown of the meaning chain. The author's work which begun in 1969 with "The repudiation" and ended in 1981 with "The cup winner" symbolizes the construction itinerary of a psychological subject which puts a structuring way in the proceeding of the text representativity. The creation of meaning in the work brings in its scriptural proceedings, in its numerous micro-accounts, in its actemes, in its isotopic configurations and in its scenes, a poeticity whose travelling coincides with the closing of the second connotant chain which is the source of Boudjedra's delirium and divagation. A structural analysis puts on the immanent and constitutitive organization of the work. The principle of Boudjedra's texts which is the same in its coming up, returns in act novel and shepes the symbolization scene. This finding of the same material allows to take it in new forms. Taken as a kind of reading of a semantic debt, this thesis proposes to free the narrator from his unconscious conflicts which signifies him and creates him as a structure. In the plan of account, of the story, so as of the different categories of the discourse where the psychanalytic subject manifests himself, the search of order is our deepest aim. The thesis takes also in account the evaluation of the metonymic language used in the chain and describes the morphologic aspect of the linguistic sign

Full textThis research concerns an illustrated book from the renaissance examined from the perspective of the insertion between textuality and materiality as it has been defined by historians of books and reading. Emerging from a body of work essentially narrative in nature, our work studies the relationship between the words and images in describing the interpretive process and in reconstructing the hermeneutic analysis by the reader. The task is to define the productive portion of the image in the preparation and construction of meaning and its interaction with textual codes (generic, rhetorical and stylistic) to which the studied texts refer to. The first part, introduction and outline, presents an approach and method adopted, suggesting as apoint of departure the status the critical analysis of the question in order to explore this historic, cultural and material dimension of the subject of our study. The second part examines different situations for reading, talking as a point of departure the placement of the image in the book. We are interested foremost in the preliminary images, and notably in portraits of authors, which construct the identity of the book as they codify the reading of the text. We then study the cas of interior images to see to what extent the contribute to the structuring of the book and to the cohesiveness of the text. Finally, the third part proves the validity of our approach and extends its perspective in suggesting a detailed study of "le discours du songe de Poliphile" (1546). We show how the story and the fiction rest on a reflection on language and speech that evoke and call forth the images

Full textThe political speech of the dictator in the African and Spanish-American literary fields offers huge perspectives of study. Indeed, the politics being an environment of social exchange, to study the mechanisms of production of the political speech of the dictator and the constructions of its sense by his public is a domain which we had wished to explore. Our thesis aims at showing exactly, the mechanisms of production of the speech of the dictator and how the public develops the work of encoding and decoding of this speech. The purpose being to highlight the various data which contribute to the elaboration of this sense, and to see the participation of each of the characters agents in this work of collaboration. We approached this work under two angles which are also the ones by whom builds itself the sense of the political speech of the dictator in our works corpus. This thesis brings to light the construction, at first extra linguistic, of the mechanism of production and construction of the sense of the speech of the dictator in the literary fields chosen as basis as our study. And then, we put the linguistic elements which contribute to the construction of the sense. Our method of research forced to us to call on to three linguistic fields without which we would not have been able to bring to a successful conclusion this research. The pragmatics thus allowed us to make a study of elements bound to the context of broadcast of the speech which go in account into the process of encoding and decoding of the speech. We then resorted to the rhetoric which allowed us to see how the dictator built his strategy of speech and how he develops his argumentation. And to finish, the semiology helped us in the highlighting of the linguistic ways of construction of the sense

Full textLanguage production is a cognitive activity long studied in isolation from more general cognitive processes that could underlie its achievement. Our approach aimed to contribute to the emerging dynamics of the opening of psycholinguistics to other domains of cognitive psychology by specifying how linguistic mechanisms interact with attentional mechanisms. To do so, we first investigated to which extent producing a single linguistic unit relies on selection mechanisms. Also, we highlighted the attentional mechanisms underlying these lexical selection mechanisms: The selections of two types of grammatical words were compared: open- and closed- class words. Results revealed that the selections of both, closed-class words structuring the phrase, and open-class words conveying meaning, require attentional resources. In a third study, we showed that the semantic interference effect - affecting a competition mechanism supposedly taking place at the level of lexical selection- can in fact be resolved before the involvement of central attentional resources. This suggests that this semantic interference effect possibly reflects a mechanism taking place prior to lexical selection. In a last study, we explored the temporal dynamics of our production system when engaged in the selection of several words within a sequence, using noun phrases. Chronometric results revealed that words are selected strictly sequentially. This dynamics suggests that the way attentional resources are recruited for the selection of an isolated linguistic unit can constrain the way several words are produced in a more natural speaking context
Carneiro, Brito Elaine. "Le Rhizome patrimonial : analyser un mouvement hétérogène d'acteurs et de sens." Thesis, Avignon, 2018. http://www.theses.fr/2018AVIG1191/document.
Full textThis thesis seeks to explore the regimes of patrimonialization of patrimonies, or patrimonial heritage, based on social dynamics of identification, recognition and enhancement of objects called "patrimonies". However, there is a communicational interpretation envisaging the understanding of a discursive productivity of the patrimonial value. In other words, we are interested in the construction of the patrimonial sense from the social discourse. Through the realization of two field surveys, in the city of Valença, in the region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and in the "Territoire des Garrigues", in the Occitanie region, in France, we question how an object material or immaterial, is likely to become heritage through symbolic productions. A third observation, of distinct characteristics, was important for the development of this research: it is the "Ninth session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage", an event which took place in November 2014 in the UNESCO Headquarters, Paris. This work attempts to describe the heritage as a movement that is transformed and actualized from the discourse of the different actors involved: owners, amateurs, practitioners, associations, researchers, institutional, among others. This is why we consider the discourse from its illocutionary force, which allows us to identify it as an action that aims to "make-do" (Austin, [1962] 1970) or "to make action". In this respect, we have developed a methodological method of webdocumentary writing with the aim of analyzing semio-pragmatically the different discourses collected and provoked during our observations. This device gives us the initiative to produce and manipulate different formats of documents, such as audio-visual, sound, photographic and cartographic. Added to this production is the collection of a heterogeneity of documents produced by the actors themselves or by third parties. Therefore, our methodological method of webdocumentary writing allows us to manipulate this set of heterogeneous documents, that is to say the organization and formatting, with the aim of exposing the possible layouts of actors. and the begetting of actions and patrimonial meanings. From this manipulation, considered as the "intermediate writing" (Achard, 1994) of our research, is gradually emerging a "rhizomatic" conception (Deleuze and Guattari, 1980) of the patrimonialisation, where the actors are at the same time act and act of this movement in perpetual transformation. The idea of a "rhizome" of heritage rhizomes evolves during the chapters of this thesis revealing a patrimonial movement that organizes the actors and generates the senses. This rhizomatic movement is notably the producer of reflections on the past "which borrows from the signified in the present and opens the way for the future" (Mattos and Abreu, 2005). Patrimonialization described as a "Heritage Rhizome" becomes an integrated exercise in the public space, also allowing us to open up to other conceptions of public space

Full textFrom the colonial era to our days, the malian school system has gone through various evolutions and changes throughout the course of History. Nonethless, the standards for quality education are still yet to be met. The deterioration of students’academic skills has been generating over the years a growing wave of disapproval from both students’ parents and teachers, while the media and the government keep hiding behind flattering but untruthful success indicators, in an atmosphere of self-delusion.This thesis, called « THE ACCESS TO MEANING IN READING AND WRITTEN PRODUCTION : APTITUDES AND DEFICIENCIES OF MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL MALIAN STUDEN TS », offers a perspective on a concrete issue : the struggle of malian students to acquire the skill of understanding oral and/or written information, both in reading and writing context. Highlighting several possibilities regarding the causes of this phenomenon, this work of observation, description and analysis aims to shed light on this very specific issue. Students difficulties to acquire reading and writing skills will be shown to be at the root of elevated failure rates and subsequent social and professional difficulties man students will face at the end of their school years. This research was conducted on a sample of 120 students and 25 teachers registered in 3 middle schools and 3 high schools in Bamako, Koulikoro and Mopti. The analysis is based on the hypothesis that both middle school and high school students know how to decipher written signs. However, we will show that, on some level, a majority of them is unable to truly get access to the meaning of words and sentences, and thus are not in capacity of producing neither meaningful, nor coherent texts. The data, gathered through surveys, oral and written tests, will allow us to determine to what extent the observed population is able to get access to information through reading, and will help us evaluate their ability to produce a written text making sense. Through the analysis of this same sample, we will demonstrate the correlation between the social and economic conditions of the parents and the writing skills of the students

Full textWords production involves a vast brain network mainly localized in the left hemisphere, summarized in a review of literature based on studies of word production in intracranial recordings. We focused principally on the involvement of the cerebral network during lexical access by using two picture naming protocols manipulating the semantic interference effect, known to modulate the links between semantic and lexical processes. We compare the spatiotemporal dynamics of these protocols interchangeably used in the literature, but which differ in the involvement of methodological parameters that may involve mnemonic mechanisms such as familiarity and repetition. Our hypothesis was that these parameters are so divergent that the underlying neural network should at least be modulated by the protocol investigated. Our EEG study reveals two distinct patterns of electrophysiological activity between the protocols due to the familiarization effect. We studied the involvement of the hippocampal structure in the production of word through intracranial recordings. The time-frequency and the local field analyses show that the hippocampus is involved in the progressive learning links between semantic and lexicon, but also in keeping them in memory for a short period and in their recovery. This work revealed that the spatiotemporal dynamics of picture naming is modulated by various factors, which goes against the involvement of a common network shared by these two picture naming protocols

Full textLanguages instantiate many different kinds of dependencies, some holding between adjacent elements and others holding between non-adjacent elements. During the past decades, many studies have shown how infant initial language-general abilities change into abilities that are attuned to the language they are acquiring. These studies have shown that during the second half of their first year of life, infants became sensitive to the prosodic, phonetic and phonotactic properties of their mother tongue holding between adjacent elements. However, at the present time, no study has established sensitivity to nonadjacent phonological dependencies, which are a key feature in human languages. Therefore, the present dissertation investigates whether infants are able to detect, learn and use non-adjacent phonotactic dependencies. The Labial-Coronal bias, corresponding to the prevalence of structures starting with a labial consonant followed by a coronal consonant (LC, i.e. bat), over the opposite pattern (CL, i.e. tab) was used to explore infants sensitivity to non-adjacent phonological dependencies. Our results establish that by 10 months of age French-learning infants are sensitive to non-adjacent phonological dependencies (experimental part 1.1). In addition, we explored the level of generalization of these acquisitions. Frequency analyses on the French lexicon showed that the LC bias is clearly present for plosive and nasal sequences but not for fricatives. The results of a series of experiments suggest that infants preference patterns are not guided by overall cumulative frequencies in the lexicon, or frequencies of individual pairs, but by consonant classes defined by manner of articulation (experimental part 1.2). Furthermore, we explored whether the LC bias was trigger by maturational constrains or by the exposure to the input. To do so, we tested the emergence of the LC bias firstly in a population having maturational differences, that is infants born prematurely (± 3 months before term) and compared their performance to a group of full-term infants matched in maturational age, and a group of full-term infants matched in chronological age. Our results indicate that the preterm 10-month-old pattern resembles much more that of the full-term 10-month-olds (same listening age) than that of the full-term 7-month-olds (same maturational age; experimental part 1.3). Secondly we tested a population learning a language with no LC bias in its lexicon, that is Japanese-learning infants. The results of these set of experiments failed to show any preference for either LC or CL structures in Japanese-learning infants (experimental part 1.4). Taken together these results suggest that the LC bias is triggered by the exposure to the linguistic input and not only to maturational constrains. Finally, we explored whether, and if so when, phonological acquisitions during the first year of life constrain early lexical development at the level of word segmentation and word learning. Our results show that words with frequent phonotactic structures are segmented (experimental part 2.1) and learned (experimental part 2.2) at an earlier age than words with a less frequent phonotactic structure. These results suggest that prior phonotactic knowledge can constrain later lexical acquisition even when it involves a non-adjacent dependency

Full textThe possibility of performing semantic rather than purely lexical search should improve information retrieval. This Ph. D. Work aims at developing modules of lexical semantic analysis, having as a further objective to improve the textual search engine of Exalead company. Presented works deal more specifically with semantic analysis on the French language. Processing of French language is more complex due to the Jack of semantic resources and corpora for this language. Thus, make such an analysis possible implies on the one hand to provide for needs of French linguistic resources, and on the other hand, to find alternate methods which do not require any manually annotated French corpus. Our thesis is divided in three main parts followed by a conclusion. The first part is composed of two chapters which define the objectives and the context of our work. The first of them introduces our thesis. It evokes some semantic issues in the field of lnformation Retrieval, then presents the notion of sense. Finally, it identifies two semantic analysis tasks, namely word sense disambiguation and semantic role labeling. These two tasks are the two main topics we address in our whole study. They are respectively handled in part 2 and 3. The second chapter draws up a state-of-the-art review of all the topics addressed in our work. The second part tackles the word sense disambiguation issue. Chapter 3 is devoted to the building of new French resources dedicated to this task. We first describe a method to automatically translate the nominal synsets of WordNet to French, by using bilingual dictionaries and distributional spaces. Secondly, we put forward an adaptation of two existing methods of word sense induction, in order to acquire a ward senses resource in a fully automatic way. Moreover, the sense clusters built in the latter step show originality as they contain words whose syntax is similar to the syntax of the given ambiguous words. The so-called sense clusters are then used in the ward sense disambiguation algorithm that we put forward in chapter 4. This chapter also provides recommendations in order to integrate such a module in a textual search engine. Semantic role labeling is handled in the third part. Ln a similar fashion, a first chapter deals with the building of resources for the French language, whereas the following chapter presents the algorithm developed for the labeling task itself. Chapter 5 thus describes the method we propose to translate and enrich FrameNet predicates, as well as the related evaluation. We propose in chapter 6 a semi-supervised approach which uses the distributional spaces to label semantic rotes. We conclude this chapter with some considerations on the use of semantic roles in information retrieval and more specifically in the scope of question answering systems. The conclusion of our thesis summarizes our contributions. It emphasizes the fact that each step of our work uses syntactical distributional spaces and that it provides interesting results. This conclusion also draws the main perspectives we see to pursue our studies. The main and immediate concern is to integrate these semantic analysis modules into prototypes for textual documents search

Full textFor a long time, intuition was perceived as a mysterious, even paranormal phenomenon, devoid of any scientific basis. Over the past few decades however, cognitive psychology, neurosciences, economic sciences and research in management have studied the nature, functioning and interest of intuition, legitimising the study of intuition as worthy of scientific study. Management research on intuition continues to struggle to translate the research from neurosciences and cognitive psychology to organizational issues such as legitimacy and communication, which are at the core of collective contexts. We mobilize a sensemaking approach, defined as a process through which individuals build one or several meanings from their interpretations of an unusual or puzzling situation. Perceived as mysterious, incomprehensible and unspeakable, intuition can be confusing and can therefore trigger a need for explanation. In other words, intuition challenges sensemaking. This dissertation studies how individuals make sense of their intuitions. More precisely, we explore what elements individuals use to make sense of their intuitions, both in situ (when they have an intuition) and ex post (when they talk about their intuition experiences), in the case of filmmaking, using interviews and observations during the film shooting and editing stages. In so doing, we highlight how intuition can be involved in communicational processes related to organizational actions. First, we show how the body can materialize intuition to translate and transform it in order to communicate it. Second, we shed light on the role played by mental abstractions such as the hypostasis figure in sharing intuitions

Full textThis study focuses on four major studies by Joseph Losey, the American film-maker renowned for his formalism and also his attention to detail, although sometimes criticised for his allegedly gratuitous aesthetics and his overly didactic approach. The analysis addresses the manner in which several meanings are produced by various aspects of filming technique such as image (setting, composition of the photograms, movement, editing), sounds (music, noises and voices, interactions between sound and image), and the task of adapting literary works to the film medium (reworking of narratives, dialogues by the British dramatist Harold Pinter, and acting). The study analyses the extent to which these partial significations may -or may not - converge so as to produce coherent general meaning which would legitimise certain stylistic effects as true cinematographic signifiers

Full textThe arrival of VR technology has enabled the emergence of new immersive experiences. These , based on the use of the senses and the body , take the user into a new reality , a virtual reality. This thesis addresses the discourses surrounding the experience of VR from both designer and user perspectives by analyzing the process of creating a virtual universe and the implementation of an immersive experience. Most specifically , I will examine the mobilization of the senses during the immersion process. This study aims to better understand virtual senses and how they are used and implemented within virtual environments to produce a convincing virtual sensory immersion.

Full textThe thesis offers a first-start study of the semantic field of health in the vannetais variety of Breton, based both on a corpus of literary Breton from the Vannes region and a corpus of oral Breton collected from traditional speakers in the Pontivy area. Lexicographic description of lexical units from that semantic field is embedded in the Meaning-Text linguistic theory. An overview of the theory, in particular it’s lexicological branch, the Explanatory and Combinatorial Lexicology is given, followed by a detailed description of the lexical and syntactic co-occurrence of nouns denoting physiological disorders, illnesses and diseases. Such a description has required lexemization of vocables (= discrimination of different word-senses of polysemous words) to which belong basic lexemes of this semantic field: DROUG ‘≈ physiological disorder’, KLEÑVED ‘disease’, KLAÑV ‘ill / sick’, KLEÑVEDET lit. ‘made.ill’ = ‘having an illness’, YAC’H ‘healthy’, YEC’HED ‘health’ and AESAAT ‘to cure / heal’. These lexemes have been given a detailed lexicographic description. The thesis represents the very first attempt at applying a clear, coherent and descriptively powerful lexicographic methodology to Breton data. In addition, it makes available to the scientific community a corpus of oral Breton of about a half million words

Full textThe emergence of frank psychosis is often preceded by a "prodromal" phase. This period of time is characterized by non specific and subtle signs and suggests the early manifestations of the disorder. This phase typically occurs in adolescents, and the none specificity of the clinical signs renders its detection difficult. The first section of the thesis is a return of clinical experience around the problem of the early detection of psychosis. The psychopathological observations that are reported led to the hypothesis that patients reveal a constellation of deficits ; none that are directly observable by the clinician. Nevertheless, these abnormalities are subjectively reported by the patients and may be revealed objectively through the sue of behavioral tasks. The second section of the thesis concentrates on a set of experimental tasks that aim at a better understanding of the origin and nature of the temporal distortions that characterize schizophrenia. More specifically, using spatio-temporal tapping tasks, our aim was to test the hypothesis that time disorders arise early on, right at the emergence of the illness. A first experiment was to run to confirm the presence of timing deficits in schizophrenia in a sensorimotor synchronization task. The two following studies were aimed at showing that these timing deficits were not associated to a dysfunctional internal clock but rather to a fundamental impairment in the integration mechanisms required for action planning. Finally, the last study assess whether early deficit in sense of agency could occur early, at the prodromal period, these perturbations being potentially associated with temporal integration deficits

Full textArgentine writer julio cortazar's "bestiario" and mexican juan jose arreola's "confabulario definitivo" both belong to the latin american fantastic literature. The incarnation of the animality reveals an ontological indetermination of the being, the implicit doubt of the fantastic text in front of the unexplainable unusual. The confrontation between the meaning and the movement of the animality reinforces the antinomic expression of the narration, illustrated with a double literary artifice, that of unlikelihood and that of reality

Full textThis research focuses on the use of the terms populism and populist during the French presidential election of 2012. This study had carried out by treating two corpuses : political discourses and additionally journalistic discourses, covering the period from October 2010 to May 2012. By positioning in the theories of discursive semantics and of praxématique, we convened the discourse analysis to analyze the production of the meaning of those terms. The goal is to understand how the presidential candidates of 2012 and commentators in the press use the terms in question in their discourses, and to determine the linguistic processes involved in these discourses to represent these terms. The results show that from the point of view of the production of meaning, there is a semantic act on these terms, which we receive mostly with a negative meaning, although some speakers / writers was trying to inject the positive direction in their previous negative meaning

Full textHow do we talk about something when we do not know what it is we are talking about? How do you construct meaning when it escapes? And why do we dot that? The dissertation explores linguistic production in a corpus chosen because it is highly specific: CNN's live broadcast on 9/11. The first describes and justifies this choice in terms of the situation of an ongoing event and in terms of corpus methodology; since its analysis blends inductive and deductive approaches. The second part considers frames of discourse as constrained by the situation and constraining linguistic productions: the TV live broadcast and the interaction are characterized and analyzed. Sociodiscursive profiles emerge that correlate modes of discourse. The third part considers cognitive constraints on verbalizations from the point of view of theories of common ground, bridging linguistics and psycholinguistics. Reference construction, information structuring, the notion of key-words confirm the specific quality of the corpus, deviating from general norms. A conclusion retraces the complex theoretical and methodological considerations and sums up analytical contributions

Full textMuseum mediation as a prefigurative system is studied here through a semio-pragmatic approach. Particular attention is given to the processes of meaning production as well as to communicational contexts. Starting from the expographic study of the Musée International de la Parfumerie as a mediating situation, this research considers museum mediation from two different angles : epistemological ( as a cultural practice and as a concept per se) and pragmatic through the notion of mediation system. Within the museum space, the notion of a mediation system synergizes the two conceptions of the exhibit, ie the exhibit as text (responding to a constitutive and communication intentionality) and the exhibit as a discursive construction (which sets up a triple discursive dimension : prefigurative, configurative and refigurative). The analysis of mediation systems thus permits questioning the status of museum objects (material as well as immaterial), the role of space and the place of the public in the process of meaning production as a form of mediation

The object of the research consists in the banking practice (formal or non-formal) engaged either internally and externally. This project aims to mobilize tools, lessons and interdisciplinary perspectives offered by the information and communication science (ICS) and to converge also the achievements of research fields such as philosophy, languages, economy or sociology sciences. My observations, based on the participative research methodology, are structured for a double purpose. First, the research targets to join the previous efforts to emphasize the communication’s role, by focusing on the meaning’s creation. The second objective is to reveal the innovative information and communication practice that banks have implemented to meet customer’s needs and to adapt to the new economic pressures

Full textThe main aim of this study on the social production of the meaning of domestic space by the moroccan central high atlas families which run a touristic lodging at home, was double : constructing and trying out a theoretical and methodological process with a view to show the meaning of space processes and content ; and through this meaning of space analysis, showing the local social production dynamic. However, to catch this social dynamic better, this work has searched for a test situation for the social production of the meaning of space. Therefore, it particularly concentrated on the meaning of the domestic space that is produced by the families which run a tourist lodging at home : because they run a tourist lodging at home, these families have been considered having to cope with some conflicting social logics into a limited space ; some of which actualized by running international tourist space, and others of which actualised by the inhabitants' usual house pratices. To answer the geographer's question about the meaning of space, this study refered both to p. Bourdieu's social action theory and g. Balandier's social dynamics analysis. The ground survey notably refered to anthropology's methods. Moreover, this study includes several expositions about the local political dynamic and about the real or possible effects in this field of the local social emergence of the inhabitants working in the tourist industry. It also includes, some remarks about the role of the tourist activity in the local territorial production, according to the categories of local people or local actors
