The islands, dating back to the Viking Age are faced with a progressively uneven growth compared to the city developing an inevitable socio-economic dependency on the city core through infrastructural connections. Perhaps the most basic tension in any theatrical performance is that of the actual and the fictive. There is always a doubling of performer (actor-character), time (now-then), and place (here-there) in theatrical representation. Performance theorists such as Fischer-Lichte, Boal, George, Schechner, and Turner all argue that between the poles of actual and fictive, between that which is materially present and that which is absent and referenced, lies the liminal state. The liminal state is a self-referential state that collapses binaries of here-and-there, now-and-then, and subject-and-object.

Abstract:

As Moore’s Law slows and process scaling yields only small returns, computer architecture and design are poised to undergo a renaissance. This thesis brings the productivity of modern software tools to bear on the design of future energy-efficient hardware architectures.

In particular, it targets one of the most difficult design tasks in the hardware domain: Coherent hierarchies of on-chip caches. I have extended the capabilities of Chisel, a new hardware description language, by providing libraries for hardware developers to use to describe the configuration and behavior o
