AbstractThis paper studies the incentives and characteristics of firms that apply for, and eventually receive, one or multiple governmental grants intended to stimulate innovation and growth. The analysis departs from a contest model in which entrepreneurs are free to allocate their effort between production and seeking grants. The results suggest that highly productive entrepreneurs abstain from seeking grants, moderately productive firms allocate a share of their effort to grant seeking, and low-productivity firms allocate most resources to seeking grants. The article analyzes the features of the application of the balanced scorecard in the non-profit sector of the economy. In non-profit organizations, financial and cost indicators have relatively less weight in the BSC. Indicators related to the quality of human resource management occupy a priority place in the BSC. The article analyzes the balanced scorecard in relation to two organizations: the Presidential Grants Fund and the Kursk Institute of Management, Economics and Business. In recent years, human capital, R&D activities and innovation have an important place in both empirical studies related with economic growth and new growth models. In this context, it is drawn that innovations frequently arising from R&D activities are the main engine of the new economy, while productivity-based positive relationship between human capital and economic growth of the countries is emphasized by a variety of evidence. This paper empirically investigates the impact of human capital, R&D and innovation on economic growth in context of G8 countries. Indicators used in ana

In order to reach a better productivity in numerous fields, robots have been wildly used for automatic tasks. The main issue of a robot is his lack of adaptability, which is one of the most important ability of human beings. The best tool for adaptability is the human hand. Using pneumatic actuators to drive a robot forearm grants the possibility to move light articles with accuracy and without harming it. It is then necessary to develop accurate model of the different types of actuators. As every human muscle are simulated by those actuators, the size of these must vary and so their propertie

Today, within the engineering design process, we have interactions between different design teams, where each team has its own design objective and continuous need to present and share results with other groups. Common engineering environments are equipped with advanced modeling and simulation tools, specially designed to improve engineer’s productivity. In this paper we propose the use of ontologies, the semantic metadata descriptors, to facilitate the software development process in building such multidisciplinary engineering environments. Full text
Abstract:
The gap in productivity among countries is a fundamental factor contributing to income disparities across countries. Firm-embedded productivity, encompassing knowledge, expertise, patents, brands, and business models, contributes to approximately one-third of the variation in output per worker across countries. Country-specific factors, such as institutions and natural resources, account for the remaining variation. Policies that enhance firm- embedded productivity, such as tax incentives for R&D and research grants, can help reduce global income inequality.

Abstract:
This paper addresses the relationships between innovation, research and development (R&D) and productivity in domestic ICT firms in Costa Rica. Factors considered were the types of innovation outputs produced by domestic ICT firms, the relative importance of innovation inputs, the impacts of innovation on firm productivity, the protection of innovations, and impediments to innovation. While most firms engaged in all types of output and input innovations, they appear to be driven by retaining or increasing market share rather than increasing productivity. This research explores productivity enhancement in Bangladesh, Cambodia, Fiji, Mongolia, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, focusing on SMEs impacted by COVID-19. It identifies challenges like low digital adoption, limited R&D, and disrupted supply chains. It also discusses key strategies for recovery, including investing in digital technologies, innovation, and employee skills, alongside fostering collaboration and a culture of innovation. The role of government support through grants, loans, and tax relief in business resilience and growth is also analyzed.

Evidence indicates that business support to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in lower middle-income countries (LMICs) can improve firms’ performance, create jobs, and have a positive effect on labour productivity (Piza et al., 2016). The impacts of some approaches to private sector finance such as traditional loans, grants and technical assistance have been studied empirically, but there is limited evidence of the impacts of non-traditional and innovative financing instruments (Mallen & Bungey, 2019; Piza et al., 2016). This paper investigates the long-term causal effects of receiving an ERC grant on researcher productivity, excellence and the ability to obtain additional research funding up to nine years after grant assignment. We use data on the universe of ERC applicants between 2007 and 2013 and information on their complete publication histories from the Scopus database. For identification, we first exploit the assignment rule based on rankings, comparing the outcomes of the winning and non-winning applicants in a regression discontinuity design (RDD). Chile's FONDEF and FONTEC R&D grant programs both boost the productivity of direct beneficiaries, increasing total factor productivity (TFP) by around 4.2 percent. However, spillover effects are contingent on program design. Only FONDEF funded projects (requiring collaboration between firms and research centers) generate positive spillovers. FONTEC projects, which fund R&D within the firm, do not. Spillover effects are nonlinear according to the share of firms within a sectorregion receiving subsidies.
