The effect of Pakistan's trade liberalization on total factor productivity and profitability is empirically investigated over a period of 15 years. Total factor productivity is measured for eight major sectors separately and TFP parameter estimates are derived for each sub sector individually. Parameters are estimated by following Levisohn & Petrin (2003) method which takes into account the simultaneity bias inherent in a particular level of total factor productivity and selection of inputs for a panel data set covering a period 1980-95. The second chapter investigates the effect of industrial policies on misallocation using a rich data-set of Chinese firms. Using a difference-in-difference approach, I provide evidence that government policies (i.e. the 10th Five Year Plan) favoring particular industries lead to increased misallocation (i.e., an increase in the dispersion of revenue productivity across firms in four-digit industries). Abstract Producing quality work on time and within budget is the key to a profitable paint job. This presentation details a systematic approach for painting contractors on the key elements of profitability ― everything from managing labor and job cost to selecting quality products for better productivity is examined. The goal is to inform contractors on how to measure and fine-tune their processes to improve their competitive edge. Objectives are to provide contractors with best practices and to educate them on how innovative coating technology makes jobs simpler, faster and more profitable.

Abstract Most capital projects in the energy market face significant cost overrun issues. There is a real need for innovation to improve productivity; reduce the need for completion on site and to minimise the annual operations maintenance budget. By optimising the coating specification we can increase the likelihood of paint completion during the project while increasing productivity and quality. Thus the chances of the project being completed in time are increased and the lifetime maintenance costs reduced. This paper will show the cost reduction benefits of using an optimised two coat paint
