Full textIvory Cost economic growth is based on the numerous natural and human resources of agriculture. Among the first world producers of coffee and cocoa, this country is still bound to import a large part of its food consumption, mainly cereals. Several surveys on the fundamental reasons of i. C's food problems have pointed out the socio-economical phenomena specific to the general organisation of food distribution. We have delbierately chosen not to focus on the economical aspects only in order to shwo these phenomena in a spatial frame they help to understand. Considering that i. C. 's territory is the support of an economical activity it shelters, our problematic relies on the following questions: how do the food distirbution systems incite a particular shape of spatial organisation in the areas of the territory and mutually, how does the spatial organisation influence the food distribution in ivory cost? The answers to those questions are in the survey of agricultural economy, of geographical space and of social relations in Ivory Cost

Full textThe expansion of food markets in Abidjan come within the framework of a fast and recently decentralized urbanization. Different in their size and in the way they set up, the markets have conquered new territories and spread widely over the city. So urban consumers have access to abundant and various provisions. Highly structured trade networks control the supplying of the business capital of Côte d'Ivoire. Besides their supplying function, the markets open the way to modest but regular source of income for women. Moreover, they reinforce the urbanization by creating new buildings and livening areas up. New policies of market construction reveal the interest the authorities take in these spaces. However privatization raises social and town-planning problems

Full textThe ivory-coast economic development strategy leans on the expansion of agricultural exports. This gave remarkable results among which a rapid economic growth until 1978. Then happened an important economical crisis that continues and increases. The ivory-coast economic development strategy has been clogged by external and unexpected events (fluctuations in the value of agricultural exports), and by inadequate decisions

Full textThis work shows how the multiple social pressures bearing on the basic agricultural trainers are managed by these last mentionned, what their logics of action are, how they develop, strategies and from maneouvre, and with what problems their professional identity is confronted. At first, the author goes though different systems or methods of training used in the field of agricultural training. Then she describes the duties and the parts played by the basic trainers within their professional strucutres but also in relation with the groups or categories of actors in their field of action. The last chapter is devoted to the training agents extrta-professional relationships. This study draws attention to that there is a reciprocal influence between the trainers extra-professional environnement and their professional practices

The dynamism of actions undertaken in that field with the lounchinf of vast production programmes which permitted to reach and maintain a certain rate of economic growth. The product of this agricultural policy is a gouvernment pla, with the product of set of institutions and mainly a social stake wheighing on different social forces. Full textRice, selfsufficiency culture in some traditional societies, has become, under the impact of the economic rise and the urbanization, the basic foodstuff in ivory coast. This matter of fact has overall increased because of its relatively cheap market price compared to other products. The increase of consumption was more rapid than the one of production, which has brought a gap covered by imported rice. Anyhow, rice still remains the wholly one subsisting culture being wholly considered in the development policies and so, since the independance, but these policies have only raised results far from those one hoped. The evolution of rice importation brings the authorities to search for the implementation of a nex policy able to reach self sufficiency by the mean of the growth of production. But, in the case of ivory coast, it is, at the present time, more advantageous to import rice than to produce it, on account of the cost price. So, if self-sufficiency still stands like the main objective, it is not only to be done by an increase of the rice production but also by a global policy including all the subsistence products in their whole

Full textIn the Cote d'Ivoire the farming population is growing old whereas the younger generation leave the countryside for the town. This is the reason why it has become imperative to develop a policy whose object to help install the young in the agricultural sector. The government are trying to help, but here are major obstacles : inadaptation of land law, inefficient education system and professional training. To these difficulties must be added the establishment of an adequate legal frame, the problem of the real will of the government to promote a reform that is necessary for the future of the country

Full textThis thesis tries to understand and explain the very cause of the agricultural deforests done in the classified forest of Irobo-Méné. It analysis the fundaments of the relations of the colonial and postcolonial States, as well as the people from the deforest area, with the land and its resources. The founding is that, in their coexistence, the pattern of local organization towards the use of the lands is submitted to a profound evolution, under the influence of the State's model of space distribution, at its turn accompanied by the expansion of plantation agriculture and monetary transformation of economy. At the same, the social practices associated with the State's control are dominated as well by a radical transformation. The situation determines a strong individualization among citizens, along with the modification of land's usage. This internal dynamics of the rural communities has been reinforced when the State had liberalized the exploitation of the rural space. The phenomenon determined the apparition of social, economic and political strategies, all in confrontation towards the ownership of the lands. Consequently, this relation with the lands, dominated by money, has been prolonged into the classified forest

Full textThe effect of education on technical and allocative efficiency in farm production is measured for cote d'ivoire and taiwan. As productivity is measured directly, this partly overcomes difficulties encountered in interpreting mincerian function estimates (due to labor market iperfections). Based on profit function estimates (with adjustement to take into account rural household model non-recursive. Ness), contrasted results are obtained: there is no return to education in ivoirian agriculture while the return is positive in taiwan. This can be interpreted with reference to th. Schultz's statement that the return to education is high in unstable or modernizing environments, but can be negligable otherwise. An original model allows explicit testing of this theory: assuming individual behaviour is not optimal and allocative mistakes happen as a result of unstable economic environment, it is shown that farm profit can be stated as optimal profit minus some index of agricultural price variation. Estimation over 17 repeated cross-sections (pseudo-panel) in taiwan illustrates that return to education is higher, the more unsteady prices are. The same holds for climatic instability. However, wage variation does not affect farm vs. Off-farm work allocation. Recent pseudo-panel data methods are implemented, including identification of fixed-effects models and microsimulation

Full textThe matter i wished to deal with is about agricultural mechanization which means harnessed and motorized farming as a factor of agricultural modernisation and economical development. In this consideration, my approach of the problem consisted in the first part of the survey to make a diagnosis of the situation about mechanization in the concerned countries. I examined the experiments made in this fieldand i brought out the propitious and the unpropitious factors of the mechanization. At the end of the first part, i came to the conclusion that first attempts have rather failed and then mechanization in these countries still remains predominated by the use of hand tools. Having recorded this failure, i suggest in a second part to build up a strategy liable to promote mechanization in these countries. This strategy is mainly upon the lessons drawn from the analysis of the actual weakness of the mechanization of the african agriculture. It also is inspired by the spreading process of the technical progress in the agriculture of countries now developed. I will also try to propose a methodology of mechanization. For this strategy induces many conditions, means, and actions which help the transition of traditional african agriculture toward a modern agriculture using the most performant technics

Full textThe cocoa crisis of the late 1970s greatly affected the survival strategies of producers. It manifests in the scarcity of production (land, labour), the decrease in production and revenue, the transformation of the ecological milieu and the decrease in rainfall. In order to overcome these constraints, producers have adopted various strategies that either aim at diversifying their sources of revenue or reduce family responsibilities. The main result of this study is the observation that, the most efficient of these strategies were those shaped while taking into consideration social relationships. They include strategies to diversify revenue, credit, mobilisation of the labour factor, the respect of guidance rules. The diversification of revenue which was based on solidarity and cooperation constitute an important element of the producers’ survival strategies because they have ensured an ineligible first degree security in cocoa crisis

Full textThe notion of poverty has been the subject of much debate around the world. Previous analyses have emphasized the one-dimensional character based essentially on a monetary approach (income or consumption expenditure). Thanks to the work of some authors such as Townsend and Sen, the multidimensional character is highlighted, considering the difficulty of quantifying certain variables that translated the idea of lack. In addition, many empirical studies show that the rural sector remains the most affected by poverty. In the case of Côte d'Ivoire, poverty is also a rural phenomenon and most studies have focused on the monetary approach. This study addresses the analysis of poverty by focusing on rural farming and apprehends the phenomenon of poverty from three (03) approaches: (i) monetary; (ii) relative deprivation and (iii) wealth. The results show that poverty remains important in this sector with a high rate for the indicator of the relative deprivation. In addition, there is greater monetary inequality than other types of poverty whatever the year (2002 and 2008).The identification of the explanatory factors of the membership or not in the class of the poor shows that the variables related to the gender, to the type of religion and the age group are the most common in the various years and various approaches.Based on the obtained results , the following recommendations are formulated: (i) towards the Ivorian government, use monetary and non-monetary approaches in next analyses on poverty in Côte d’Ivoire; emphasize the construction of new infrastructures and the purchase of new equipment; improve communication about government actions; build the capacity of producers to use improved inputs and relevant tools; (ii) to agricultural producers, adopt agricultural technologies and techniques and quality inputs, accept to join cooperative enterprises; (iii) for cooperatives, it is necessary to look for outlets for its members, to negotiate better remunerations for agricultural productions, to transform farmers into real agricultural entrepreneurs
