Full textThe main objective of this research is to study the beliefs of Chinese ELE teachers regarding the teaching methodology and contrast them with their teaching performance (Williams y Burden, 1999). We focus on exploring how ELE university professors in China conceptualize the different aspects of teaching in their teaching practice (class programming, activities used, the form of evaluation, expectations, etc.) in contrast to their teaching performance. Based on an ethnographic approach, a semi-structured interview and non-participant observation of class sessions of four teachers is carried out. In this communication, we will analyze the results of four teachers in an intermediate level ELE course (B1-B2). The relational analysis (Ballesteros, 2000) of the interview along with the interpretative and discursive analysis of the class session (Li, 2014; Ramos, 2005) reveals that there is a certain discrepancy between the beliefs of the participants and their classroom practices. Despite some reflections on conservative programming and the lack of opportunities for interaction, classes still focus on linguistic content through deductive instructions and translation activities without considering the affective factors of the students or the learning strategies they use. This problem is due to the official curriculum of China and the academic and pedagogical experience of the teachers. The triangulation of the data allows to offer possible interpretations of said hiatus.

Full textLa presente tesis doctoral, dedicada al tratamiento de las palabras culturales en diccionarios bilingües y a la creación de un nuevo modelo de diccionario cultural bilingüe español-chino-español, parte inicialmente de la necesidad del aprendizaje y la enseñanza de la llamada “cultura compartida” y, también, de la perspectiva de la comunicación intercultural entre gentes de distintas culturas. Basándonos en los estudios teóricos sobre la interrelación e interdependencia entre lenguaje y cultura, hemos seguido una serie de metodologías con las que podíamos indagar los problemas más significativos que generaban malentendidos o choques culturales entre hablantes de distintas culturas. En este trabajo, hemos centrado nuestro interés de investigación especialmente en el tratamiento de los llamados culturemas -entendidos como palabras o expresiones específico-culturales- en el ámbito lexicográfico, porque estas palabras no sólo se consideran como “peones de una cultura centenaria” de cada sociedad sino que también son elementos fundamentales que constituyen parte de la macroestructura de los diccionarios de lengua y para la comprensión de estas palabras se requiere no sólo el conocimiento de su valor de lengua, sino también de su valor connotativo en un determinado contexto cultural. Desde esta perspectiva, hemos presentado una propuesta para crear un nuevo modelo de diccionario cultural bilingüe dirigido especialmente a los usuarios chinos que tengan necesidad de conocer el sentido connotativo y cultural de las palabras del español y que quieran subsanar problemas de integración y comunicación, causados por su escasa inmersión cultural en la cultura española. Por tanto, ese futuro diccionario cultural que proponemos en esta investigación se caracteriza por su enfoque orientado al tratamiento de los conocimientos y saberes culturales y, a la vez, a la formación de las habilidades y las actitudes de los aprendices de una lengua extranjera al entrar en contacto con otras culturas.
The present doctoral thesis, dedicated to the treatment of the cultural words in bilingual dictionaries and to the creation of a new model of Spanish-Chinese-Spanish bilingual cultural dictionary, initially stems from the need of learning and education for the call "shared culture", and also from the perspective of intercultural communication among peoples of distinctive cultures. Based on the theoretical studies about the interrelation and interdependence between languages and cultures, we’ve followed a series of methodologies with which we could investigate the most significant problems that generate misunderstandings or cultural shocks among speakers of different cultures. In this paper, we’ve focused our research interest especially on the treatment of so-called culturemes - known as words or expressions as specified in cultural-lexicographical spheres, because these words are not merely considered as "peones of a centenary culture" of each society but also as fundamental elements constituting part of the macro-structure of the language dictionaries. Comprehension of these words requires the knowledge of the value of language as well as the connotative value in a certain cultural context. From this perspective, we’ve presented a proposal to create a new model of bilingual cultural dictionary especially for those Chinese users who need to know connotative sense and the cultural words of Spanish, and want to compensate for the problems of integration and communication, caused by their limited cultural immersion in Spanish culture. Therefore, that future cultural dictionary we proposed in this research is characterized by the treatment of the cultural knowledge and, at the same time, by the development of the abilities and attitudes of learners of a foreign language to interact with other cultures.

Full textThis investigation has its roots on the experience of the author as a teacher of Spanish for Chinese students at her workplace, Mediterráneo school (Barcelona). Between 2008 and 2012 the number of Chinese students learning Spanish in this school increased to such an extent that the teachers found themselves teaching to groups with a majority of Chinese students. Both the author and her colleagues found some difficulties with Chinese students during their lessons and discovered that the same teaching methods that had been working with students of other nationalities did not work with the Chinese. In addition to that, the marks of Chinese students did not match nor teachers’ expectations nor the marks of the non Chinese students. Is within this context that the author decides to study this situation in order to understand it and be able to suggest methodological improvements that match the needs of Chinese students of Spanish. The author studies the Chinese learning culture through the analysis of its cultural, political, socioeconomic and linguistic components. Thus she describes the profile of the Chinese students of languages and they expect from their Spanish lessons. She also does a theoretical review of the reflexive process and its role on teachers’ ongoing training. This point is crucial in order to understand how teachers’ reflexive portfolios (one of the main instruments in this investigation) work and which advantages this tool offers. In order to accomplish the goals of this work the author does an ethnographic research of the courses for Chinese students run at her workplace. Through the analysis of surveys, interviews, lesson minutes, teachers’ reflexive portfolios and other documents she finds out and specifies teachers’ difficulties and how they tried to solve them. Additionally she describes how they used the portfolio and their problems doing so.

Full textEsta tesis tiene como objetivo principal analizar el léxico de especialidad incluido en Nueva Era: Gran diccionario español-chino (en adelante: Nueva Era), que es el diccionario español-chino más voluminoso en el mundo actual y uno de los diccionarios más utilizados entre los estudiantes chinos. Para alcanzar el objetivo de la investigación se siguen los siguientes pasos. Primero se realiza un análisis general de Nueva Era con el fin de, por un lado, proporcionar una visión global de este diccionario, y por otro lado, determinar la función y los usuarios de la obra. Después, se estudia el 5% de todo el diccionario y se extraen todas las voces de especialidad halladas en la parte revisada para elaborar un corpus. Una vez elaborado el corpus, se procede a realizar un análisis tanto a nivel macroestructural como a nivel microestructural con el fin de averiguar si la presentación y el tratamiento de las voces especializadas pueden corresponder al usuario y la función de esta obra. Seguidamente, se compara el tratamiento del léxico especializado entre Nueva Era y en sus cuatro fuentes lexicográficas, que son el Nuevo diccionario español-chino, el Diccionario de la lengua española, el Diccionario actual de la lengua española y el Gran diccionario inglés-chino, para comprobar las posibles relaciones y diferencias existentes entre ellos. Por último, se elabora una propuesta sobre el tratamiento del léxico de especialidad en un diccionario español-chino general basándose en los problemas detectados en Nueva Era.
The main objective of this thesis is to analyze the specialized lexicon included in New Era: Great Spanish-Chinese Dictionary (hereinafter: New Era), which is the largest Spanish-Chinese dictionary in the world of today and one of the most used dictionaries among Chinese students. The following steps are taken to achieve the objective of the research. First, a general analysis of New Era is carried out in order, on the one hand, to provide an overview of this dictionary and, on the other hand, to determine the function and users of the work. Then, 5% of all the dictionary is reviewed and all the specialized lexicon found in the revised part are extracted to elaborate a corpus. Once the corpus has been compiled, an analysis is carried out at both a macro and microstructural level in order to find out if the presentation and treatment of the specialized lexicon can correspond to the user and the function of this work. Next, the treatment of the specialized lexicon between New Era and in its four lexicographic sources, which are the New Spanish-Chinese Dictionary, the Dictionary of the Spanish Language, the Current Spanish Language Dictionary and the Great English-Chinese Dictionary, is compared to check the possible relationships and differences between them. Finally, a proposal about the treatment of the specialized lexicon in a general Spanish-Chinese dictionary is made based on the problems detected in New Era.

Full textToday, the essential role of translation is present in all sectors of daily life, as in intercultural contacts and exchanges in all areas. The translation has finally become a topic of interest not only to students but also teachers and researchers, and to translate supposed communicate and facilitate communication. It is a key in the dissemination of knowledge and contributes to the respect for cultural and social diversity. However, note that the description and investigation of the teaching of translation (hereinafter DoL) was not a clear process throughout history, because the translation part of the teaching of foreign languages for centuries. This work is divided roughly into two sections: the descriptive and analytical. The descriptive section contains the first and the second chapter; the analytical section includes chapters three, four, five, six, seven. Next, described The first chapter, Education in China, serves as an introduction to the system of higher education in China -the universities there, faculty, students, careers, etc. which is essential information for understanding the following chapters. In the second chapter, Teaching Translation Spanish-Chinese in China, firstly described in university education from the following viewpoints: disciplinary construction, curriculum, compilation of teaching materials, teacher training, teaching, teaching methodology of written and oral translation (interpretation), evaluation and research translator translator. Then the teaching of Spanish in China is analyzed. We can say that although our aim of study is the DoL, but as in this country the Spanish-Chinese DoL always part of E / LE, there is another option that approximate the Spanish-Chinese DoL from the teaching of Spanish. In chapters three to seven, in order to meet the main goal that was raised earlier, that is, the Spanish to Chinese cultural approaches within the translation components that have fully analyzed -the cultural characteristics FH, the FPT, the GC, among others to reach conclusions that contribute to the Spanish-Chinese translation. As shown, at the end of each chapter a didactic translation unit that serves proposal for the classroom is added. Based on the results obtained, reflection and analysis is done from the perspective of cultural approaches the positives and negatives and analyzed in depth the academic, institutional and administrative reasons for these failures that hinder the improvement of the quality and performance of teaching Spanish translation into Chinese in Chinese universities. Finally, using the theories previously raised and the problems among Chinese students propose suggestions from cultural and translatological perspective in order to improve the Spanish to Chinese higher learning in China. The annexes are a number of data and information that we have been essential to this university study-centers offering GTI and DTI, curriculum and instructional goals of some centers as an example, distribution of students by fields, etc. as well as the corpus that have been analyzed for the analytical section.

Full textThis dissertation is a comparative analysis of Determiner Phrase in Spanish and in Chinese. According to Cinque and Kayne (2005), comparison between languages is an essential part of formal linguistics. The study of closely related languages or dialects has shown that syntactic differences between languages are less important than they might appear at first sight, and has helped to identify the fundamental principles of Universal Grammar (UG). The highly inflected languages such as Spanish are both typologically and genetically different from the radical isolating languages like Chinese. Seemingly, a linguistic comparison between these two does not have much research value because there are not many similarities between them. However, if we analyze them from a generative point of view, the distinctive features of each language comply with certain common principles, which would provide more convincing demonstration of UG. In modern linguistic literature, due to the proposal of the extended projection that attaches importance to the projection of functional categories and the discovery of various parallels between the noun phrase and the clause, there have been numerous studies on the nominal projection and higher projections headed by functional categories in the new analysis, particularly, the projection of determiners. The hypothesis of DP (Abney 1987) renews the ancient concept of the noun phrase and postulates that the determiner phrase subcategorizes the nominal projection. The proposal has been controversial because it was based on a functional category that some languages lack, as in this research: there are articles in Spanish but in Chinese this category does not exist. Therefore, this investigation aims to analyze comparatively determiner phrases in Chinese and in Spanish, to find the syntactic and semantic similarities and distinctions and to propose that although the determiners project very differently in Spanish and in Chinese, present similarities derived from the principles of UG.

El discurs generat per al professor d'espanyol a l'aula té unes característiques específiques que el diferencien d'altres discursos propis d'altres situacions comunicatives. Aquestes característiques es centren en dos aspectes principalment: les modificacions interaccionals i les lingüístiques. Si es veritat que moltes vagades els professors són conscients de què adeqüen la seva parla al nivell de competència dels seus alumnes, amb freqüència les creences sobre els aspectes en els que ells modifiquen els seus discursos no es corresponen amb la seva actuació didàctica. Aquest estudi, partint de l'anàlisi de les creences dels professors i anàlisi del discurs generat a l'aula (tant des de la perspectiva discursiva com didàctica), presenta una caracterització del discurs generat a l'aula en interacció amb alumnes de nivell principiant.
The discourse produced by the teacher of Spanish as a Foreign Language has some specific features which differentiate it from other discourses typical of other communicative situations. These features are mainly based on two aspects: interactional and linguistic modifications. While it is true that teachers are often aware that they adapt their way of speaking to their students' competence level, the beliefs as to which aspects of their discourse they modify do not correspond with their teaching performance. This study begins with the analysis of teachers' beliefs and their classroom discourse (both from a discursive and a pedagogic perspective), presenting a characterization of classroom discourse which is generated through the interaction with beginner level students.

Full textSpeakers of each language generally have a certain amount of words from their mother language. They know how to use and construct properly the words for communicate. Therefore, the students who intend to learn another language should master the words and approach the use that the natives do. Spanish and Chinese are two languages of different origins with very different morphological procedures. In this research we are going to study from the point of view of a Chinese student who learns Spanish the contrasts between the formation of words of both languages. More in detail, it will focus on the senses 'action or effect' of the formal words in -ción, since it is the most productive and living affix in the Spanish language. Because these names appear with explanations like "action or effect of a verb" or "lack of a verb" in Spanish dictionaries and Spanish-Chinese bilinguals respectively, this research will study how to determine this ambiguous response according to Contexts. Finally, at the end of the present work, teaching activities related to the teaching of those words for Chinese students will be proposed.

Full textThe present investigation is part of the field of experimental phonetics applied to the Second Language Acquisition (SLA). By way of summary, our work aims to analyze the tonic vocalic realizations of Spanish by female informants of German and Chinese mother tongue, in comparison with Spanish speakers, in order to verify how each of these mother tongues behaves in the production of Spanish as L2. That is, how the differences between two vowel systems as far apart as German and Chinese are reflected in the Spanish vowels. In this sense, the research we have carried out has several objectives. The first one is to analyze one of the key factors in the acquisition of a second language: the interference of the mother tongue. On the other hand, the second of our objectives focuses on the description of stylistic variation, that is, the changes produced in the speakers' performances caused by the different situation and style of speech: spontaneous versus formal. To achieve these objectives, we have selected three female informants for each of the three groups analyzed: Spanish, German and Chinese mother tongue. In this way, in the investigation we expose the frequency values of the formants 1 and 2 as well as the duration of the vowel realizations of each linguistic profile in the two speech styles. The results reflect the interference of each mother tongue in the production of Spanish vowels in both styles, as well as their influence on stylistic variation.
