Abstract:
The article is devoted to the problem of the formation and implementation of a professional at different stages of life, professional and work path, which is relevant in practical and theoretical terms. The purpose of the article is to define and substantiate the tiered structure of individual professionalization. The formal basis for identifying the levels of professionalization of a person was various types of age: the age of the life path, the age of the labor path and the age of the professional path. The substantive basis is the specific patterns and neoplasms characteristic of each age of the professional. The article analyzes the specificity of a person's professional path, which is considered as a process and result of the development of the subject of a specific professional activity. The stages of the professional path and the tasks solved by a person at this level have been identified. It has been established that the professional path is a polycyclic education and is implemented in accordance with the principles of specialization and efficiency. The article defines the specifics of the work path, as a process and result of the development of the subject of labor. It was revealed that the work way is a non-professional education. It is realized through specific types of professional activity, but is not limited to them. The labor path is a monocyclic education, but it consists of cycles of the professional path corresponding to the types of professions and specialties that a person owns. The article analyzes the psychological content of a person's life path, the components of which are the labor and professional path. It has been determined that the path of life acts as a psychological context for solving problems of the labor and professional path. It is the basis for the formation of an attitude towards professionalization and influences the definition of its life meaning. It is shown that the successful implementation of the labor and professional path has a positive effect on the content of the path of life, expands the repertoire of the types of his life, increases his vitality and resilience.

A professional journey is always part personal and mine is no exception. How does an individual from the Midwest of the United States get involved with language? It is something I have pondered for a long time along with the additional question of how that involvement translated into a profession. I hardly see it as a profession; rather, it was a life-long love of language that took me down a professional path.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to address the decreasing role of professional associations in governing the work of entrepreneurial, knowledge-intensive professions such as management consulting. It presents the example of an alternative path to traditional professional regulation. This organic professionalization path is introduced through the concept of dispersed institutional entrepreneurship. Design/methodology/approach – The paper builds on an in-depth qualitative investigation of professionals in the intercultural industry combining physical and digital ethnography in a multi-modal investigation. Findings – The findings illustrate how an ideological divide within the professional community prevents an emergence of the traditional, association-led professionalization path. Instead, the investigated community follows an organic, bottom-up route, with competing individual entrepreneurs developing converging strategies and products. This process is labelled dispersed institutional entrepreneurship. Research limitations/implications – The findings indicate that current views on professionalization need to reconsider admission criteria and the professionalization paths that are generally assumed. Further research could focus on investigating organic professionalization paths among other professional groups. Originality/value – With an in-depth qualitative investigation of an aspiring professional community this paper contributes to an ongoing discussion on the process of professionalization. The findings show that independent agents’ efforts could be at the centre of the process. They can prevent the professional association from leading the professionalization project while enabling the organic development of synergies across the community.

Abstract:
Organizations are increasingly opting to offer alternative career paths to the traditional managerial ladder (particularly, a technical ladder). Although research has mainly focused on differences between the managerial and technical paths with regard to rewards and prestige, our study focuses on gaps between employees’ actual (current) and preferred career paths, that is, being on the technical path while preferring the managerial path and vice versa. We examine how employees experiencing career path gaps compare with employees experiencing career path fit, in terms of self-rated performance and burnout. The results, based on data from 210 professional employees working in four global high-technology companies, suggest that performance levels are lowest among employees who are currently on the technical career path but would prefer the managerial path, whereas burnout levels are lowest among employees experiencing career path fit. Furthermore, among employees experiencing the former, career path gap, performance is lower when supervisor support is high.

Abstract:
Purpose This paper aims to focus on professional development in the education sector. Its goal is to understand team leaders’ roles in teachers’ professional learning. Second, this paper seeks to understand the influence that team leaders have on teachers’ learning path strategies. Design/methodology/approach Following from van der Krogt’s (2007a) Learning Network Theory (LNT), this paper presents a qualitative study of teachers’ preferences for specific learning path strategies. Interview data were collected from teachers (N = 24) and team leaders (N = 5) at an intermediate vocational school in the Netherlands. Research questions ask to what extent teachers learning path strategies align with the learning path strategies that their team leaders think they should use, and about the influence team leaders have on teachers’ professional development. Findings Findings suggest that teachers and team leaders’ beliefs about learning path strategies differ greatly, and that team leaders have limited influence on the learning path strategies that teachers adopt. On the other hand, team leaders appear able to create conditions in which teachers can pursue professional learning because they do have influence on learning facilities. Originality/value These findings add to the scarce empirical evidence regarding LNT, learning path strategies and team leaders beliefs about teachers professional development. They also imply practical changes for team leaders who want to influence teacher professional development.

Abstract:
V prispevku namenjamo posebno pozornost pravilnemu dojemanju temeljnega poslanstva SV, premagovanju zapuščine obvezniške vojske, razumevanju omejitev poklicne vojske, profesionalizaciji v pogojih finančnih omejitev, profesionalni integriteti pripadnikov SV, profesionalizaciji in obvladovanju interesnih nasprotij, zunanjemu in notranjemu nadzoru vojaške profesije, profesionalizaciji prek stalnega izobraževanja ter profesionalizaciji kot nikoli zares končanem procesu. V tem kontekstu moramo na področju profesionalizacije poklicne SV ohraniti ustrezno čuječnost in zavzetost, preden se na nekatere nedoslednosti in nepravilnosti, na katere opozarja prispevek, dokončno navadimo oziroma ohranimo nadzor nad nekaterimi do zdaj manj uspešnimi vidiki tega procesa in njihovimi posledicami. The project »Transition to Professional Armed Forces Complemented with Contractual Reserve« (PROVOJ) was launched in 2003 and concluded premature- ly in 2007. Has thus the mission of Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) professionali- zation been completed? We estimate that SAF professionalization is far from being complete. The path from career to truly professional Slovenian Armed Forces will certainly not be short and easy, but rather time consuming, winding, steep, slippery and full of traps and challenges. In the article, special attention is devoted to a proper understanding of the basic SAF mission, the overcoming of the conscription system heritage, understanding of professional armed forces restrictions, professionaliza- tion in austerity conditions, professional integrity of SAF members, professionali- zation and management of conflicts of interests, internal and external control of the profession of arms, professionalization through continuous training and professio- nalization as a never-really-completed process. In this context, a proper amount of vigilance and commitment should be preserved in the professionalization of career armed forces, before we completely adapt to certain inconsistencies and irregulariti- es underscored in this article and not to preserve the same level of control over some hitherto less successful aspects of this process and their consequences.

Abstract:
AbstractBackgroundTherapeutic relationships are a central component of community treatment for psychosis and thought to influence clinical and social outcomes, yet there is limited research regarding the potential influence of professional characteristics on positive therapeutic relationships in community care. It was hypothesised that professionals’ relating style and attitudes toward their work might be important, and thus this exploratory study modelled associations between these characteristics and therapeutic relationships developed in community psychosis treatment.MethodsDyads of professionals and young patients with psychosis rated their therapeutic relationships with each other. Professionals also completed measures of attachment style, therapeutic optimism, outcome expectancy, and job attitudes regarding working with psychosis.ResultsProfessionals’ anxious attachment predicted less positive professional therapeutic relationship ratings. In exploratory directed path analysis, data also supported indirect effects, whereby anxious professional attachment predicts less positive therapeutic relationships through reduced professional therapeutic optimism and less positive job attitudes.ConclusionsProfessional anxious attachment style is directly associated with the therapeutic relationship in psychosis, and indirectly associated through therapeutic optimism and job attitudes. Thus, intervening in professional characteristics could offer an opportunity to limit the impact of insecure attachment on therapeutic relationships in psychosis.

Abstract:
Three components of teachers’ professional capital are human capital, social capital, and decisional capital according to Hargreaves and Fullan (2012). These three aspects of professional capital are meant to be part and parcel of developing the teaching profession. In this article, the author focusses on professional capital as a framework by putting the emphasis on the decisional aspect. In this study, the decisional capital is not only found at the micro level of education: the classroom and school level. Beyond that, a teacher also needs to make professional decisions that will affect her/his professional growth and trajectory. To illustrate this professional path through the lens of decisional capital, the author outlines the narrative of decision-making of an Indonesian English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teacher. The findings of the study shed light on the Indonesian teacher’s journey to becoming an English teacher and how the journey has been marked by her decisions regarding her career and her engagement with the professional communities in Indonesia.

Abstract:
The relationship between professionals and clients has received considerable interest, more recently through the concept of client capture. However, little is known to date about the mechanisms through which professionals become captured by their clients. Drawing on 50 interviews investigating the promotion of lawyers to partnership in seven UK law firms, we contribute to existing understanding by exploring the creation of client capture during professional career progression. We propose that by bestowing clients with influence over who gets promoted to partnership, lawyers lose professional independence in defining the future of their firm. In addition, we illustrate how lawyers make themselves indirectly dependent on their clients by perceiving partnership as influential to client work. By doing so, they rely on their clients to legitimize partnership as the ideal career path. Based on our findings, we argue that career progression acts as an enabling mechanism for the creation of client capture as, by succumbing to the desire to advance their careers, professionals also become prone to client capture. We discuss the implications of our findings for professional–client relations and client capture, professional careers and the changing nature of professional work.

AbstractAn electronic patient record consists of electronically stored data about a specific patient. It therefore constitutes a data-space. The data may be combined into a patient profile which is relative to a particular speciality as well as phenomenologically unique to the specific professional who constructs the profile. Further, a diagnosis may be interpreted as a path taken by a health care professional with a certain specialty through the data-space relative to the patient profile constructed by that professional. This way of looking at electronic patient records entails certain ethical implications about privacy and accessibility. However, it also permits the construction of artificial intelligence and competence algorithms for health care professionals relative to their specialties.

Claims that a strong professional identity is key to offering a healing presence and that pastoral counselors can use their dis-ease with conflicting paradigms and wave-trends in mental health care and the wider culture to maintain a professional identity rooted in the history of pastoral care and their respective theological and psychological worldviews. Identifies these wave-trends as the defensive use of language, the medicalization of normal human experience, the lack of interest in developmental perspectives on human life, and the overlooking and denial or internal mental processes of persons. Introduces the concept of pastoral counseling as cultural critique and points out implications of this for the direction of the profession of pastoral counseling.

Abstract:
In order to explore the specific influence mechanism of professional commitment on subjective Well-being, this paper makes a research questionnaire based on professional commitment scale, subjective Well-being scale, academic Self-efficacy scale and social support scale, and surveys 356 college students nationwide. The obtained data are analyzed empirically using SPSS22.0 and Amos22.0. The results show that: (1) Professional commitment and academic Self-efficacy can positively predict subjective Well-being; (2) Academic Self-efficacy has a partial mediating effect on the relationship between professional commitment and subjective Well-being; (3) The moderating effect of social support occurs in the direct path of professional commitment’s influence on subjective Well-being and the indirect path of professional commitment’s influence on academic Self-efficacy. By constructing a moderated mediation model, this study reveals the mechanism of professional commitment on subjective Well-being, and provides reference for analyzing, predicting, shaping and correcting college students’ cognition and behavior, as well as helping to solve their psychological problems.

Abstract:
The article discusses the study results of the Russian teachers’ professional longevity. The authors try to highlight the role of value-semantic factors that determine the teacher’s orientation to the productive extension of his professional path beyond the retirement age. The study results, in particular, the analysis of data from in-depth interviews with teachers of retirement age (n = 40) allows us to assert a significant contribution of value-semantic factors to the overall picture of the process of a teacher’s transition to the post-professional period of his life. In particular, three main transition strategies are identified: 1. Postponement; 2. Smooth transition; 3. Forced finish. Each strategy corresponds to a certain type of indicators of a value-semantic nature: attitude to health, attitude to the level of one’s professional efficiency, combining professional and personal goals. There is a high diagnostic value of the metaphor method in the study of the respondents’ professional path.
