Comment définir un professionnel de la traduction et de l’interprétation judiciaire ? Aujourd’hui le métier de traducteur et d’interprète judiciaire en France et en Espagne est en voie de professionnalisation. Les structures professionnelles – formation, associations, régulation de l’État – contribuent à cette transformation de même que les attitudes favorables à la professionnalisation des praticiens, autrement dit le professionnalisme. Nous avons constaté que les travaux en traductologie n’ont pas développé la notion de professionnalisme et ont accordé une place centrale à la formation, laissant souvent de côté les aspects attitudinaux. Par ailleurs, la formation se révèle comme un critère de différenciation des traducteurs et interprètes, distinguant ceux qui sont diplômés en traduction – qualifiés de « professionnels » – de ceux qui ont acquis des compétences en traduction par la pratique – qualifiés de « natifs » (« naturels » ou « non-professionnels »). Cette thèse interroge cette dernière distinction et propose un modèle pour l’étude du professionnalisme centré sur cinq dimensions : l’idéal de service, l’intérêt pour les associations professionnelles et pour la qualité-efficacité dans la réalisation des tâches, les souhaits d’amélioration des conditions de travail et enfin les références en principes éthiques. Par le recours à ce modèle, notre travail explore les différences de professionnalisme entre traducteurs et interprètes judiciaires « natifs » et « professionnels » travaillant en France et en Espagne à partir d’entretiens biographiques. Les résultats avancent que l’interaction entre les acteurs interviewés et les structures professionnelles autres que la formation, détermine la définition du professionnalisme et du professionnel de la traduction
What defines a professional on the field of legal translation and court interpretation? Nowadays, France and Spain are in the process of professionalizing this field. Even now, professional structures like a formal education, organizations and state regulations are contributing to this transformation, as well as demonstrating a favorable attitude towards the professionalization from its practitioners. In other words, professionalism. We have noticed that translation studies do not have a notion of professionalism, but keep a central role in formal education, which in effect neglects its attitudinal aspects. Furthermore, a formal education becomes the differentiation between translators and interpreters, distinguishing those who are certified in translation (qualified as “professionals”) from those who have acquired their translation skills through practice (qualified as “natives”, “naturals” or “non-professionals”). This thesis draws into question the above differentiation and proposes a model that studies professionalism focused on five aspects: the ideals of service, the interest for professional associations and quality-efficiency in task completion, the desire to improve working conditions and finally the standards in ethical principles. Through the use of this model, we performed biographical interviews to explore the differences in professionalism between “natives” and “professional” legal translators and court interpreters who work in France and Spain. The results indicate that, the interaction between the interviewees and the professional structures, other than a formal education, determines the definition of professionalism and of a translation professional

Abstract:
This research uses the framework of information economics to analyze the translation profession and translator certification. The translation market is found to be heterogeneous and fragmented and both buyers and sellers
frequently enter and exit the market. The recruiters seeking translators surveyed believe translator certification can enhance the overall image of the translation profession but increased monetary benefits might be minimal.
There are two reasons why currently translator certification systems do not function effectively as a signal. First, because of
"counter-signaling", high-quality translators may have less incentive to use certification because signaling behavior may mark them down as mediocre translators. Second, due to "signal-jamming", vocational master's degrees in Translation are likely to compete with translator certification as a signaling device, and employers find it difficult to make inference about job applicants' employability from these two credentials.As recommendations, professional translator associations, translator
training institutions and others need to collaborate in developing multilateral signaling devices as well as provide translators with the
required knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for them to thrive in the
ever-changing translation market.
Esta investigación utiliza el marco teórico de la economía de la información para analizar la profesión de la traducción. Concretamente, se utilizan los conceptos económicos de información asimétrica y selección adversa. La información asimétrica implica dos o más agentes económicos, entre los que uno de ellos tiene mejor información que el resto. Aplicado al mercado de la traducción, analiza la situación en que los compradores de servicios de traducción necesitan reclutar nuevos traductores para su trabajo, pero no pueden distinguir con eficacia entre un "buen" traductor y uno "malo". Se ofrecen las siguientes recomendaciones para consolidar el efecto referencial del sistema de certificación del traductor: una coordinación más cercana entre los sistemas de certificación y las organizaciones profesionales en diversos países o regiones; una mejor aplicación de códigos profesionales y de regulación de la conducta; desarrollo de un reciclaje continuo que mantenga a los traductores al día de la realidad cambiante de la profesión. Pero sobre todo, es necesario que las asociaciones profesionales de traductores, las instituciones formativas y otros implicados, trabajen juntos en el desarrollo de mecanismos multilaterales de referencia que puedan cubrir las demandas de contratantes y clientes, a la vez que proporcionan a los traductores el conocimiento, habilidades y actitudes requeridas para su supervivencia y prosperidad en el complejo y variable mercado de la traducción.

El presente estudio compara la post-edición de textos técnicos de ingenieros y traductores profesionales en términos de velocidad, documentación y cambios. También se compara la calidad de los textos post-editados. Además, se explora cuál de los siguientes flujos de trabajo es más rápido y produce resultados de mayor calidad: la post-edición de los resultados de Traducción Automática hecha por los ingenieros y la revisada por traductores profesionales, o viceversa. Los resultados sugieren que la experiencia y conocimientos en la materia son los principales factores que determinan la calidad de la post-edición. Cuando se penalizan los errores recurrentes, la post-edición de textos técnicos realizada por los ingenieros es significativamente de mayor calidad que la de los traductores. La velocidad de revisión de traductores e ingenieros no difirió significativamente. En textos técnicos, la mejora de la calidad que conlleva que el ingeniero revise la post-edición del traductor es mayor que en cuando el trabajo se organiza al revés. Además, la calidad de los textos post-editados y sus versiones revisadas (ya sea realizada por traductores profesionales o ingenieros) cambia significativamente según se penalicen o no los errores recurrentes.
El present estudi compara la post-edició de textos tècnics d'enginyers i traductors professionals en termes de velocitat, documentació i canvis. També es compara la qualitat dels textos post-editats. A més, s'explora quin dels següents fluxos de treball és més ràpid i produeix resultats de major qualitat: la post-edició dels resultats de Traducció Automàtica feta pels enginyers i la revisada per traductors professionals, o viceversa. Els resultats suggereixen que l'experiència i coneixements en la matèria són els principals factors que determinen la qualitat de la post-edició. Quan es penalitzen els errors recurrents, la post-edició de textos tècnics realitzada pels enginyers és significativament de major qualitat que la dels traductors. La velocitat de revisió de traductors i enginyers no va diferir significativament. En textos tècnics, la millora de la qualitat que comporta que l'enginyer revisi la post-edició del traductor és major que en quan el treball s'organitza a l'inrevés. A més, la qualitat dels textos post-editats i les seves versions revisades (ja sigui realitzada per traductors professionals o enginyers) canvia significativament segons es penalitzin o no els errors recurrents.
The present research compares engineers’ and professional translators’ postediting a technical text in terms of speed, documentation and changes. It also compares the postedited texts with regard to quality. Further, we explore which of the following workflows is faster and produces outputs of higher quality: Postediting MT output by engineers and revising the postedited text by professional translators, or vice-versa. The findings suggest that expertise and experience in the subject-matter are the main factors determining postediting quality. When the recurrent errors are penalized, the engineers’ postediting of technical texts is of significantly higher quality than the translators’. The translators’ and the engineers’ postediting and revision speed did not differ significantly. For technical texts, the quality improvement brought about by engineer-revision of translator-postediting is higher than vice-versa. Further, the quality of the postedited texts and their revised versions (either performed by professional translators or engineers) changes significantly as a result of penalizing and unpenalizing recurrent errors.

Translation services are an essential part of successful human interaction in the modern world. While professional translators have served humanity for millennia, the world is rapidly evolving, and translation needs are evolving as well. Those who use translation services are seeking faster, more efficient, and less expensive means for meeting their translation needs. The demand for alternatives to professional translation services has led to the birth of crowdsourced translation. Crowdsourced translation is the process by which text is translated using the collective knowledge of a group of people. The group, or "crowd", is most often accessed via the Internet. Because it employs the services of many individuals and the high-speed communications capabilities of the Internet, crowdsourcing is a fast, low-cost method of producing translations. Some professional translators question the feasibility of crowdsourced translation, while some of those involved in crowdsourced translation argue that crowdsourcing is superior because of its speed and cost-effectiveness. This paper investigates these claims and explores the strengths and weaknesses of each method in a variety of likely scenarios.

Abstract:

This dissertation investigates translation strategies and translation principles in technical translation. Five translation students and 5 professional translators from German-speaking Switzerland and 4 translation students and 6 professional translators from Sweden were asked to think aloud while translating a user guide from French into German and from French into Swedish, respectively. The focus of the analysis was on the strategies that could be observed by comparing the translation products with the source text; and on the principles underlying these strategies as revealed by the think-aloud protocols of the translation processes. In order to evaluate the extent to which the translation products complied with the fictitious translation brief given to the participants, 2 reviewers per language pair proofread the translation products. The analysis also included contrastive analyses of certain linguistic features of technical texts in French-German and French-Swedish. The results show that experience of translation does play a role in the choice of translation strategy. It is, however, an even more important factor with respect to knowing and applying translation principles in the translation process. Also, students more often display uncertainty regarding translation principles, and conflict between the principles verbalised and those actually followed. Language-pair specific differences were mostly found in connection with translation strategies. Comments about future directions include the need for clearer definitions and more systematic manipulations of the variables involved in translation, and the potential interest in investigating the principles governing how translations are revised through the use of think-aloud protocols.

With the rapid growth of the Internet and the recent developments in translation technology, the way translators carry out their translation-oriented research has changed dramatically. Resources used by translators to conduct such research have diversified and largely moved from paper to online. However, whilst the number and the variety of online resources available to translators is growing exponentially, little is known about the interactions between translators and these resources. The present research empirically examines the use of online resources by professional translators during their translation-oriented research activities and it does so from an information behaviour perspective. As a first study of its kind, it focusses on freelance professional translators working at their normal place of work. Specifically, this work addresses the questions of the nature and quantity of resources used by translators as well as the time they spend on research activities. Furthermore, it examines the individual differences between the participants during the research activities. These differences are studied by considering the types of resources used and the ways they are accessed, and by investigating the many volume- and time-related aspects of each translator’s research activities. The main contribution of this study lies in the identification of patterns and their systematisation through a multidimensional analysis, culminating in the formulation of two taxonomies - the Resource Type User Taxonomy (RTUT) and Taxonomy of Translator Research Styles (TTRS). It is argued that whilst RTUT may largely depend on technology developments, TTRS reflects the more innate traits of translators’ information behaviour. By employing a two-stage, multi-method approach (Global Survey, N=540 and Main Study N=16), and by conducting it remotely, through the Internet, the present study represents a quasi-naturalistic research design which aims to observe translation processes as they happen in translators’ natural working environments. This methodology in itself constitutes a contribution to translation process studies.

Nowadays when Lithuania is a member of the European Union the English language penetrates into all spheres of our life and serves as a precondition for the upsurge of translation from/into English and Lithuanian. Translation in the realm of different professional discourses causes a number of problems. The aim of the research is to specify the peculiarities of translating educational discourses from English into Lithuanian. The paper presents a brief theoretical overview on the issues of the translation. It analyses not only the definitions and the main characteristics of the educational discourse but also reveals the particularities of the professionalisms as a linguistic phenomenon. Besides, it presents the selected examples of educational professional language from English educational discourses and their equivalents in the Lithuanian language. Lietuvai tapus Europos Sąjungos nare, anglų kalba pradėjo skverbtis į visas mūsų gyvenimo sferas. Dėl šios priežasties padaugėjo ir vertimų iš/į anglų kalbos į lietuvių kalbą. Skirtingų profesinių diskursų vertimas sukelia daugybę problemų. Šio tyrimo tikslas yra apibrėžti edukacinių diskursų vertimo iš anglų kalbos į lietuvių kalbą ypatumus. Apžvelgiama teorinė medžiaga apie vertimą, nagrinėjami edukacinio diskurso apibrėžimai ir ypatybės, parodomi profesionalizmų ypatumai. La presente tesi si pone come obiettivo quello di indagare il rapporto tra stereotipi di genere e traduzione automatica, proponendo uno studio di caso composto da frasi contenenti dei sostantivi riferiti a professioni tradotti automaticamente dall’inglese all’italiano. Il capitolo I offre una panoramica teorica sulla traduzione automatica, per poi approfondire il tema degli stereotipi di genere nella traduzione automatica. Il capitolo II si concentra invece sul rapporto tra genere e lingua, partendo dalla definizione di stereotipi e pregiudizi per passare poi alla questione dei femminili professionali. Vengono delineati gli aspetti linguistici per poi fornire una breve panoramica delle iniziative che sono state proposte nel contesto italiano e internazionale per promuovere l’uso del genere femminile nella lingua ed evitare di usarla in maniera sessista e non inclusiva. Nel capitolo III, dopo aver esposto nel dettaglio la metodologia impiegata degli studi precedenti, si presenta la struttura frasale ideata per condurre lo studio di caso. Partendo dall’elaborazione dei dati statistici sul numero di donne per ogni occupazione, si giunge alla selezione delle professioni da impiegare nello studio. Vengono inoltre illustrati gli strumenti utilizzati nell’analisi basata su corpora che verrà condotta nel capitolo IV, dove si presenta l’analisi degli output forniti da due sistemi di traduzione automatica, DeepL e Google Translate, nella combinazione linguistica inglese-italiano. L’analisi dettagliata di tutti gli aspetti della struttura frasale è corredata da tabelle e grafici esplicativi, inoltre sono presenti approfondimenti sulle traduzioni di alcune professioni di particolare rilevanza. I risultati dell’analisi verranno infine discussi in maniera approfondita, ipotizzando infine le prospettive future degli studi in questo ambito.

En los estudios de calidad en interpretación, se ha discutido ampliamente qué significa calidad y quién la debe evaluar. Generalmente, las investigaciones se han centrado en las perspectivas de los destinatarios y de los intérpretes como evaluadores, pero pocos han considerado ambas perspectivas en simultáneo. Este estudio busca determinar cómo coinciden o se diferencian las valoraciones de calidad de los destinatarios y de los intérpretes mediante el análisis de un conjunto de criterios de calidad valorados en el contexto de interpretación simultánea de conferencias en Lima, Perú. Por ello, se empleó una metodología mixta: se encuestó a 77 destinatarios en siete conferencias especializadas y se entrevistó a diez intérpretes. Se encontró que ambos grupos coinciden en la valoración de la fluidez verbal y acento nativo, pero difieren en la valoración del uso correcto de los términos y la fidelidad del mensaje. Los resultados coinciden parcialmente con los de otras investigaciones, pero se encontraron diferencias en las valoraciones de los destinatarios. Además, indican que, si bien ambos grupos tienen distintas prioridades, sus concepciones de calidad no son muy alejadas.
In Interpreting Studies, there has been a lot of discussion about quality and who should evaluate it. Research has generally focused on the users and interpreters’ perspectives, but few studies have considered both perspectives simultaneously. Using a mixed-methods approach, this study aims at determining the similarities or differences between users and interpreters’ notion on quality by analyzing eleven quality criteria in the context of simultaneous conference interpreting in Lima, Peru. Ten conference interpreters were interviewed and surveyed, and 77 users were surveyed at seven specialized conferences. Both groups coincide in the rating of fluency and native accent but differed in the rating of correct use of terminology and sense consistency with the original. These results are partially in line with other studies’ results, but there are some differences regarding the users’ ratings of quality criteria. Furthermore, although both groups have different priorities, their notions on quality are not very different.

The focus of this work was to watch, in the speeches of InterpreterTranslators of the Language of Signs (TILS), the understanding and the conceptions that they have concerning your function in the process of the deaf student's formation and of the professional alterities constitution of them. We based our study theoretically in the enunciativo-discursive language theory of Mikhail Bakhtin and, to leave of that referential, we defined the methodological procedures , as then organization and the discussions presented in the results. We left of the presupposition that to understand the subjects it is necessary to request to place them in your reality, in the universe of relationships in which they are submerged, and that are decisive the construction of meanings and the relationships and interactions for them established, considering, still, the researcher's active paper in the construction of the data. It participated with us, in the interviews and interactions, 27 TILS, located in series of the Fundamental Teaching II (6th to the 9th year), in schools of the municipal public nets of 8 (eight) Brazilian states. The interviews were recorded, and we did, also, annotations of context elements, important for the understanding of the subjects and yours speeches. We created dialogue spaces and reflection concerning the elements that guide the social practices of these subjects in your professional contexts and, leaving of discussions centered in the speech concepts, subject, dialogy and ideology, we cleaned our perception on the construction of the senses and meanings attributed by the TILS to your material realities and related universes, besides the function of the speeches in the manners as the subject of the research understand your function and responsibilities and they look at the work place for them in the sceneries of development of the deaf students' schooling. Among ours (in) conclusions, detached that the local sceneries indicate significant changes in course in what plays to the deaf students' education and, mainly, in the relationship with the TILS. The plurality of professional entails and of wages it demonstrated that there is a lot to be done in this field of the rights and duties. The suitable situations for the subjects also appeared for the distance among what it would be the ideal and what is the Real in the implantation of bilingual educational projects. We saw as indispensable the support offer to the faculty, as well as the need of the TILS of if they feel part of the teaching team and they develop partnership relationships with the teachers. We saw, also, that the realities and singularities lived by the performance in school atmospheres they hinder these professionals excessively to define your roles, the limits of your responsibilities in the teaching process and of the deaf students' learning. Finally, on formation, professionalization and politization of the TILS, we believed that are aspects they be constantly pursued her, not just in your dimension individual, but collective, considering the interlacement and the crossings of the aspects political, ideological, philosophical, that constitute them in the group of your professional identities. With relationship to the unfoldings of this research, because the done questions raised many other, we believed, mainly, in the importance and need to think on her the formation in a deep and connected way to the beginnings of the alterity. And, still, we waited that, after materializing doubts, conflicts, anguishes and reflections of TILS, this material can serve, also, to the formulation of new and others idealize and ideas of professional formation for them.
O foco deste trabalho foi desvelar, nos discursos de Tradutores-Interpretes de Língua de Sinais (TILS), a compreensão e as concepções que eles têm acerca de seu papel no processo de formação do aluno surdo e da constituição de suas alteridades profissionais. Fundamentamos teoricamente nosso estudo na teoria enunciativo-discursiva da linguagem de Mikhail Bakhtin e, a partir desse referencial, definimos tanto os procedimentos metodológicos, quanto a organização e as discussões apresentadas nos resultados. Partimos do pressuposto de que compreender os sujeitos requer situá-los em sua realidade, no universo de relações no qual estão imersos, e que são determinantes a construção de significados e as relações e interações por eles estabelecidas, considerando, ainda, o papel ativo do pesquisador na construção dos dados. Participaram conosco, das entrevistas e interações, 27 TILS, atuantes em séries do Ensino Fundamental II (6º ao 9º ano), em escolas das redes públicas municipais de 8 (oito) estados brasileiros. As entrevistas foram gravadas, e fizemos, também, anotações de elementos contextuais, relevantes para a compreensão dos sujeitos e seus discursos. Criamos espaços de diálogo e reflexão acerca dos elementos que orientam as práticas sociais destes sujeitos em seus contextos profissionais e, partindo de discussões centradas nos conceitos de discurso, sujeito, dialogia e ideologia, apuramos nossa percepção sobre a construção dos sentidos e significados atribuídos pelos TILS às suas realidades materiais e universos relacionais, além da função dos discursos nos modos como os sujeitos da pesquisa entendem seu papel e responsabilidades e olham para o lugar ocupado por eles nos cenários de desenvolvimento da escolarização de alunos surdos. Dentre nossas (in)conclusões, destacamos que os cenários locais indicam mudanças significativas em curso no que tange à escolaridade de alunos surdos e, principalmente, na relação com os TILS. A pluralidade de vínculos profissionais e de salários demonstrou que há muito a ser feito neste campo dos direitos e deveres. As situações indicadas pelos sujeitos apontaram também para a distância entre o que seria o ideal e o que é o real na implantação de projetos educacionais bilíngues. Vimos como indispensáveis a oferta de suporte ao corpo docente, assim como a necessidade dos TILS de se sentirem parte da equipe de ensino e desenvolverem relações de parceria com os professores. Vimos, também, que as realidades e singularidades vivenciadas pela atuação em ambientes escolares dificultam sobremaneira a estes profissionais definirem seus papéis, os limites de suas responsabilidades no processo de ensino e de aprendizagem dos alunos surdos. Finalmente, sobre formação, profissionalização e politização dos TILS, acreditamos que são aspectos a serem perseguidos constantemente, não apenas em sua dimensão individual, mas coletiva, considerando o entrelaçamento e os atravessamentos dos aspectos políticos, ideológicos, filosóficos, que os constituem no conjunto das suas identidades profissionais. Quanto aos desdobramentos desta pesquisa, visto que as perguntas feitas suscitaram muitas outras, acreditamos, principalmente, na importância e necessidade de se pensar sobre a formação de maneira profunda e conectada aos princípios da alteridade. E, ainda, esperamos que, após materializar dúvidas, conflitos, angústias e reflexões de TILS, este material possa servir, também, à formulação de novas e outros ideais e ideias de formação profissional para eles.

En la didáctica de la traducción se destaca la importancia de la enseñanza de lengua materna para la formación los estudiantes. Sin embargo, si bien los estudios se han enfocado en el contenido por desarrollar en los cursos, no se ha abordado la manera en que se enseña en el aula. El presente estudio tuvo como objetivo identificar las estrategias de enseñanza de docentes de la línea curricular de Lengua Materna de un programa de traducción e interpretación para resolver problema de redacción de los estudiantes. Se recurrió a una metodología cualitativa exploratoria donde se entrevistó y se observó a los docentes de cuatro cursos de la línea curricular de Lengua Materna en sus sesiones de clase entre abril y mayo de 2019. En el estudio, se concluyó que los docentes utilizaban estrategias propias que generaban andamiaje y estrategias de enseñanza con una base constructivista durante sus clases. Además, se identificó que los problemas principales de manejo de lengua materna eran de producción textual, que se presentaron a nivel de argumentación y ortotipografía. Se espera que este estudio impulse investigaciones posteriores relacionadas a estrategias de enseñanza de la lengua materna en otros programas de traducción e interpretación.
The importance of mother tongue teaching for translation students is emphasized on translation student training studies. However, these studies have not addressed the way in which these contents are taught, although they have focused on the type of content for its courses. The aim of this study is to identify students' textual production problems and to explain the teaching strategies used by the mother tongue teachers of a Translation and Interpretation program. A qualitative exploratory methodology was used to interview the professors of four courses of the Mother Tongue curriculum line and do class observation in their respective class sessions between April and May of 2019. The study concluded that teachers their own teaching strategies which produced scaffolding as well as constructivist-based teaching strategies in their class sessions. In addition, argumentation and orthotypography in textual production were identified as the main problems regarding use of mother tongue. This study is expected to promote further research related to mother tongue teaching strategies in other translation and interpretation programs.

Résumé : La demande croissante du marché de la traduction n'est pas aisée à combler, ce qui pousse un certain nombre de traducteurs et de fournisseurs de services de traduction à chercher des outils d'aide à la traduction pouvant complémenter ou remplacer ceux liés aux mémoires de traduction (MT) (Lewis 1997 : 256; O'Brien 2002 : 99, 105-106; Saint-André 2015 : 1-8). Certains se sont tournés vers la traduction automatique (TA), qui paraît permettre certains gains de productivité lorsqu'elle est utilisée en combinaison avec un outil de MT (Guerberof 2009; Lewis 1997 : 256; O'Brien 2002 : 99, 105-106). Toutefois, la question de l’utilisation de la TA par des traducteurs en contexte organisationnel réel semble avoir été peu étudiée. La présente étude, menée en collaboration avec l’équipe de traduction des Instituts de recherche en santé du Canada (IRSC), a visé à évaluer si la combinaison d’outils de MT avec des outils de TA peut véritablement rehausser la productivité des traducteurs dans ce type de contexte. Pour ce faire, une analyse des perceptions des traducteurs en rapport aux outils de MT et de TA et une expérience dans le cadre de laquelle des textes ont été traduits à l’aide d’une MT seule ou à l’aide d’une MT et d’un système de TA ont été effectuées. Les données des deux volets de la recherche ont ensuite été analysées pour évaluer les perceptions des participants en rapport aux outils de MT et de TA, déterminer si l’utilisation d’outils de MT et de TA permettait d’atteindre des seuils de productivité plus élevés que l’utilisation d’outils de MT seuls, et vérifier si les perceptions des participants en rapport aux outils utilisés avaient influencé les seuils de productivité atteints. L’étude contribue ainsi à approfondir les connaissances en rapport à l’utilité de la TA en contexte organisationnel réel et en rapport aux perceptions des traducteurs quant aux outils d’aide à la traduction que constituent les MT et la TA.

Over the past two decades, translation workplaces have been substantially transformed by technological developments (Drugan 2013; Risku et al. 2013), and by the emergence of production networks in which a language service provider (LSP) acts as an intermediary between translator and client (Abdallah and Koskinen 2007; Abdallah 2012). However, there is little research into how technologies are integrated in the various translation workplaces found in production networks. My research aims at enhancing our understanding of translation project management and translation quality in production networks by conceptualising project management as a practice (Shove et al. 2012). For this empirical study, a data set was collected based on 60 hours of workplace observations within a UK-based LSP and 10 semi-structured interviews with four project managers (PMs) and one vendor manager (VM). Drawing on concepts from practice theory, the study analyses routinised enactments of the practice by PMs, their integration of information technologies into such enactments, their understanding of translation quality, and their strategies to achieve quality in the translation production process. I propose that the practice of translation project management is deeply embedded into a larger complex of interdependent translation production practices. A practice-theoretical framework emphasises the socio-material and collective nature of the practice. My study demonstrates that project management is a joint effort between PMs and other actors in translation production. Based on an analysis of how PMs use CAT tools and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system when they are managing translation projects, I argue that technologies are inextricably linked with enactments of production practices, and that they form part of the social structures surrounding the practice. The application of practice theory affords a new understanding of skills, or competence, in which the engagement in professional activities is vital, and in which building competence is an ongoing process. Finally, I suggest that buyers of translation products, i.e. clients, substantially contribute to translation quality, as PMs carry out project management based on the notion of translation as a service.

Aim: This paper is a report on a study that explored the professional development of intensive care unit nurses in journal clubs. Background: Evidence-based practice is important in nursing care (Krom, Batten, & Bautista, 2010). However few nurses feel comfortable using evidence to guide their practice (Pravikoff, Tanner, & Pierce, 2005). Journal clubs are a way to establish science as conversation (Wright, 2004) and foster knowledge translation for evidence-based nursing practice (Goodfellow, 2004). Methods: Monthly journal club meetings were held with the participation of a total of 71 healthcare professionals (65 nurses, 2 physicians, 2 pharmacists, 1 physiotherapist, and 1 respiratory therapist), who worked in two intensive care units of an Ontario hospital. After six months of meetings, 21 individual interviews were conducted with nurses, physicians, pharmacists, and nurse educators. Additional data collection included two focus groups, surveys, a review of staff meeting minutes, and researcher field notes. Findings: Journal clubs provided nurses with incentive to read research articles, improved nurses’ confidence in reading research, created a community of peers who worked collaboratively to improve clinical practice, provided a structure for nurses to reflect-on-practice, and led to reported changes in clinical practice. However, the data suggests that any gains in competence of nurses with the critical appraisal of research articles were probably modest. Barriers to participating in journal clubs and evidence-based practice are also identified. Conclusion: Journal clubs can foster knowledge translation and evidence-based practice through creating a community of practice and by providing nurses with motivation, structure, and confidence to read research articles. However, nurses reported a lack of critical appraisal skills and uncertainty about how to implement evidence into practice. Journal clubs may have a greater impact when implemented alongside other knowledge translation strategies such as working with clinical nurse specialists in order to enhance evidence-based practice.

This thesis explores cross-linguistic structural phenomena in the language production of bilinguals in the specific context of translation. In recent years, cross-linguistic phenomena on the level of syntax have become an increasingly prominent issue in psycholinguistic research, and are a well-known feature in language productions of multilinguals, from language learners to translators. The work presented in this thesis takes current perspectives from psycholinguistics (discussed in Chapter 2) as its foundation; impulses from research on bilingualism and advanced Second Language Acquisition (Chapter 3) and Translation and Interpreting (Chapter 4) allow to develop a specific approach to translation as a special instance of bilingual production, elementary concepts of which are available to all bilingual speakers. On this basis, an experimental paradigm for psycholinguistic research into structural phenomena of translation is developed and refined (Chapters 5 and 6) that allows to access both off-line and on-line data from simple text-to-speech translations. Experiment 1 (Chapter 5) confirms the existence of priming-like, on-line facilitation in translations where source and target sentences are structurally matched. Experiment 2 (Chapter 6) obtains a structural priming effect from sources where several target structures are available, and refines material specifications for the experimental paradigm and analysis techniques for on-line data. In Experiment 3 (Chapter 7), off-line structural priming is observed in translations into and out of L2. The corresponding on-line facilitation of primed productions, however, is discovered only in translations from L1 to L2, a finding that agrees with predictions from research in L2 acquisition and translation. On this basis, Experiment 3 is repeated in Experiment 4 (Chapter 8) with a modification to materials so that an additional restructuring operation becomes necessary. Although structural priming is still evident in translations from L1 to L2, on-line facilitation is not, suggesting that syntactic operations do not add to each other but are processed in one go. Results are discussed comprehensively (in Chapter 9) with respect to their entailments for adjacent fields of research, in particular with a view to theories of syntactic production and directionality in translation. Several possibilities for future applications of the approach are proposed.

Pour répondre à cette question, nous avons comparé les pratiques de ces deux types d'utilisateurs, à l’aide de questionnaires. Ensuite, nous avons constitué un corpus à partir de traductions d’experts métier et nous l’avons passé en revue pour renforcer l’analyse des différences. La différence la plus flagrante est l'utilisation de la traduction automatique (TA) ainsi que le contexte de production des traductions. La réalité du terrain montre en effet des textes source qui ne sont souvent pas exploitables par des machines ; nous proposons de travailler sur l'exploitabilité informatique des textes. En étudiant les technologies de TA actuelles, nous constatons qu'elles permettent soit une post-édition en langue cible après le processus de traduction, soit une pré-édition en langue source avant le processus de traduction. Nous suggérons de tirer profit de la situation inédite de rédacteur traduisant, pour utiliser l’expertise du rédacteur pendant le processus de traduction et de développer une fonctionnalité de TA permettant une édition en cours de processus
How to adapt translation technologies, initially designed for professional translators, to domain experts who have to translate for their company?We address this issue by first comparing the practices of two groups of translators, professional and non-professional, with two surveys. Secondly, we built a corpus of translations done by domain experts and we studied it to reinforce the analysis. The most obvious difference are the use of machine translation (MT) and the production context. Actually, the reality in companies shows texts, in source language that often cannot be processed by machines; we propose to focus on text processability. By looking at current MT technologies, it appears that they can either post-edit the texts that are in target language, after the translation process or pre-edit the texts that are in source language, before the translation process. We propose to take advantage of the unprecedented situation of having the "writer" and the "translator" working together, to use the writer expertise during the translation process by creating a new MT feature that allow editing during the process

The current study explores the experiences of mental health care professionals in Sweden who conduct therapy with the assistance of an interpreter. Seven participants took part in semi-structured interviews that were analyzed using interpretative phenomenological analysis (Smith, 1996). Three main themes emerged from the analysis of the interview transcripts: (1) communication and translation - highlighting the communicative challenges and benefits that arise when using an interpreter, (2) the interpreter as a person and as a professional - describing the variation of interpreters in terms of behavior, personality, roles, and professionalism, and their impact on psychological treatment, and (3) dynamics and relations - featuring the interpreter’s impact on the dynamics and the process of building a patient-therapist alliance. The results show that all participants find it difficult to determine the accuracy of the translation, and several techniques used by the clinician to ensure a correct translation were pointed out. Moreover, findings highlight the essentiality of non-verbal cues and body language in communication and that the role and the behavior, in addition to several personal factors of the interpreter has an impact on the patient-therapist alliance and therapy dynamics. In addition, the study illuminates the patient’s impact on the interpreter as many interpreters themselves have been through traumatic experiences, which in turn may affect the therapeutic process. The findings of the current study show how important it is for clinicians, mental health services, and interpreting services to take the interpreters’ impact on the clinician, the patient, and the therapeutic outcome  into account. The study aims to contribute to a better understanding of clinicians’ experiences of working with interpreters to improve the use of - and collaboration with - interpreters and thereby raise the standard of psychological treatment for refugees and asylum seekers.

Historically, research on racial microaggressions has focused on adult populations within clinical as well as work environments. The literature is just beginning to examine microaggressions within the K-12 education system and with younger populations. It is important to assess how racial microaggressions are impacting high school students given that research has indicated that this population is experiencing racial injustices. The perpetration of racial microaggressions is the basis for students’ discriminatory experiences within these institutions. This work has recently become even more necessary given that the high school student population is becoming increasingly racially diverse while our teaching population has remained mostly White. The purpose of this study is to investigate how White educators’ White identity development translates to the racial microaggression commission in the classroom setting. This study took place across three public schools within the South United States. This study included five White educators and 25 of their non-White students. The educators were interviewed and a selection of their non-White students were surveyed. This data was then analyzed using Thematic Analysis (TA). TA was utilized to uncover where White educators were in their White identity development and to assess students’ experiences with racial microaggressions. This study explored White identity development using Helms’ (1990, 1995) White Identity Development model. Findings indicated that White educators were at various levels of their White identity development. The educators ranged from those who endorsed colorblind ideologies to those engaged in racial activism. The findings were structured into six overcharging themes: Adherence to Colorblind Attitudes, Initial Response to Emerging Awareness of Racism, Denigration of POC, Intellectual Understanding of Racism, Desire to Achieve a Nonracist Definition of Whiteness, Positive White Racial Identity. The student participants reported diverse experiences within the school setting. The results were organized into two overarching themes: Positive School Experiences and Negative School Experiences. Recommendations were offered for educator preparation programs, ongoing training for educations, as well as larger systemic alterations.

The present work is part of the Language Toolkit project, born between the Chamber of Commerce of Romagna and the Department of Interpretation and Translation of Forlì. The collaboration for this work was organized with Rinieri S.r.l., a company which produces agricultural machineries, and the object of the thesis is the translation of their product catalogue from Italian into Russian. The work highlights the importance of translation for companies that decide to internationalize themselves. In particular, the thesis shows how professional translation turns out to be fundamental, as specialized texts often cause many difficulties during translation, which can only be solved by specialists who know in detail both the technical area of the texts and the translation strategies to tackle linguistic, stylistic and cultural difficulties. The work is composed of four chapters. The first one gives a framework of the company and an overview of the internationalization process, highlighting the different strategies that can be implemented by companies to be visible at an international level. The chapter also focuses on the importance of translating their written materials, since this process can bring to an increase in the level of export. The second chapter gives an overview of specialized languages, and of the tools used by specialized translators. The third chapter focuses on the analysis of the text and on the methodology used for its translation, and particular attention is given to the process of creation of a specialized corpus and to the terminological research. The last chapter is dedicated to the discussion of the translation strategies used to tackle the main problems that arouse from the linguistic and cultural differences between the source and the target text.

While striving for excellence in an increasingly market-dominated, multicultural, multilingual, service-oriented, and globalised society, language practitioners – translators, text editors, interpreters, audio describers, sign language interpreters and subtitlers – in South Africa and Flanders find themselves under increasing pressure to defend the professional status of their work, and to justify the conception of their different occupations as a homogenous profession. Given the cultural and mediatory role of the language practitioner in this decentralised, dynamic, complex, and virtual market, the professionalization of language practitioners is rapidly developing into a matter that needs urgent academic consideration. Scientific and multidisciplinary research on the occupations collectively and colloquially referred to as the “language professions”, or more academic, language practice, is therefore currently of the utmost importance and relevance to ensure market-related expert language services. Unquestionably, without such research language practice cannot become a bona fide profession. From the point of view of the sociology of professions, language practitioners are an extreme example of an understudied professional occupation (Sela-Sheffy & Schlesinger, 2011). By focusing attention on the marginal status of the language occupations (which persists despite the ever-increasing need for professionalized expert language services in a globalised multilingual and multicultural world), this research project aims to identify the perceived impediments to desired professional status for language practice, thereby creating a more systematic basis for future professionalization endeavour. The sociological literature on the professions as manifest in the functional, interactional and conflict approaches of Émile Durkheim, Max Weber, and Karl Marx, as well as a critical, postmodern approach offers a body of history and theory of the development of modern professions and their attributes. The service ideal; a viable income congruous with expert status; occupational autonomy and monopoly; career oriented training and continuing education; professional training institutions; professional bodies; ethics, and jurisdiction (see for example Abbott, 1988; Barber, 1963; Freidson, 1983, 1994; Goode, 1969; Hughes, 1963; Larson, 1977; Macdonald, 1995; Torstendahl & Burrage, 1990; Wilensky, 1964) are attributes unique to the “true profession”. These characteristics served as the matrix to establish a framework for the prototypical profession whereby the current professional status of language practitioners in South Africa and Flanders could be ascertained, and a formal language practice “professional project” initiated. Using the “professional project” (Larson, 1977) as a conceptual tool advantageously establishes the concrete, historically bounded character of the professions as empirical entities (Witz, 1992:64) within the context of three different approaches to categorisation as described in this project: the classical model, the critical model, and the prototype model. The identification of perceived obstacles to the professionalization of language practice as per the literature provided the context for a comparative appraisal of the current professional state of affairs of language practitioners in South Africa and Flanders. An objective investigation into the character of these obstacles revealed the catalyst opportunities inherent in the alleged barriers to professionalization. This perspective provides a rational framework for the implementation of essential measures to augment a viable professional project of language practitioners in general.

L'objectif est de voir si les stratégies de traduction sont influencées par des facteurs que le traducteur peut plus ou moins maîtriser et si l'expérience, la formation en traduction et-ou dans un domaine et, les langues de travail jouent aussi un rôle. Il apparaît que la pression du temps influence la décision d'accepter ou de refuser une traduction et que sous cette pression, le traducteur ne consulte pas les mêmes documents, acquiert moins de connaissances et, passe moins de temps à l'archivage. Le manque de sources pose des problèmes aux traducteurs de langues peu répandues. La création terminologique, l'analyse du texte, l'aide de la source humaine et l'archivage des informations sont plus systématiques pour ces traducteurs que pour ceux de langues répandues. Le traducteur spécialisé attache moins d'importance à la technicité du texte de départ que celui sans spécialisation, achète plus de documents et évalue plus facilement le temps qu'il consacrera à la recherche documentaire. Les " jeunes " traducteurs voient un lien fort entre la technicité du texte et sa difficulté, préfèrent utiliser des sources donnant des réponses immédiates aux problèmes, consultent et achètent moins de sources sur support papier que les traducteurs expérimentés. Internet a marginalisé l'utilisation et les achats de sources sur support papier mais ne permet pas forcément de se spécialiser. Avec Internet, le client accorde des délais plus courts et les traducteurs acceptent de traduire des textes plus techniques.

This study attempts to shed light on the efficacy of crowdsourcing as a means of translating web content in Canada. Within, we seek to explore and understand if a model can be created that can estimate the effectiveness of crowdsourced translation as a means of bridging the Canadian Linguistic Digital Divide. To test our hypotheses and models, we use structural equation modeling techniques coupled with confidence intervals for comparing experimental crowdsourced translation to both professional and machine translation baselines. Furthermore, we explore a variety of factors which influence the quality of the experimental translations, how those translations performed in the context of their source text, and the ways in which the views of the quality of the experimental translations were measured before and after participants were made aware of how the experimental translations were created.

This investigation aims to explore the area of change and knowledge translation in professional practice by using a case study to investigate the integration of a health policy into clinical mental health nursing (MHN) practice. It will address the research question of ‘What factors influenced the integration of Choosing Health (2006) and the Well-being Support Programme (WBSP) at the Trust’ by exploring how mental health nurses and managers of mental health services constructed and operationalised the recommendations of this policy into mental health services 2007-2008. A case study design and constructivist grounded theory methodology were used and the participants were taken from two groups who both worked in the Trust: registered mental health nurses (MHN) (n=28) and clinical managers of mental health services (n=18). Data were collected from the reflective accounts of the participants’ experiences of implementing the Choosing Health (2006) policy recommendations over a six month period during 2008. The Trust in this study was a large mental health and social care Trust in the South-East of England. Data were deductively analysed using a modified version of Lewin’s (1946) change theory which found six minor themes representing the factors that affected the implementation of Choosing Health (2006) in the Trust. The factors were common to both practitioners and managers and were: resources; policy and procedures; leadership in change; personal and professional development: support; motivation and innovation. The relationships between the six minor themes were examined further using inductive analysis producing three key themes that answered the research question of this study which are: organisational factors; professional factors and individual factors. This thesis argues that professional, as defined by Dopher (2012), influence in health policy both individually and strategically is weak, indicating deficits in professional influence, specifically in relation to organisational influence and professional representation. Further, shortfalls in professional influence at both local and national level were identified, resulting in under representation of the professional values, beliefs, codes of conduct and culture of mental health nursing (MHN). It is proposed that groups representing MHN should provide a higher profile advising on and developing mental health policy to improve the translation of policy into practice instead of its interpretation into practice. It also recommends that there should be an increased involvement in critically evaluating the professionally relevant evidence pertaining to the policy and an means of interpretation policy implications in terms of the practitioners related roles and responsibilities.

In Taiwan, the ability to measure the changing of health care reform and the improvement in nursing practice environment is hindered by the lack of a valid, reliable, and culture-sensitive instrument for measuring nursing practice environment. The purposes of this two-phase study were to translate and psychometrically validate the Chinese versions of the PPE Scale (CPPE). Phase I focused on translating and adapting the 38-item PPE into CPPE and evaluating the semantic and content equivalency. Semantic equivalence of the CPPE was secured using Translation Validity Indices as judged by American and bilingual experts. The content equivalence of the CPPE was supported by the satisfactory Content validity Indices. To increase the cultural sensitivity and comprehensiveness of the CPPE, 27 items were added at the suggestion of Taiwanese experts following content validation. A 66-item CPPE including 38 PPE items, 1 adapted item and 27 new items was produced for psychometric evaluation. Phase II focused on establishing the psychometric properties of the CPPE. A cross-sectional survey was conducted to test the 66-item CPPE on 977 Taiwanese nurses working in acute care settings. PCA with Varimax rotation on the 38 PPE items produced an eight-component solution for the 36-item CPPE after deleting two items. Cronbach's alpha was .90 for the total 36-item CPPE and .68 - .87 for the eight subscales. PCA with Varimax rotation on 66 items of the CPPE produced an eleven-component solution for the 58-item CPPE after deleting 8 items. Cronbach's alpha was .95 for the total 58-item CPPE and .71 - .87 for the eleven subscales. Both the 36-item CPPE and the 58-item CPPE demonstrated satisfactory test-retest reliability and concurrent validity. The psychometric structures of the 36-item CPPE and the 58-item CPPE were different from the original PPE. Both the 36-item CPPE and the 58-item CPPE were reliable and valid, but the 58-item CPPE is culturally sensitive to the Taiwanese nurses. The 58-item CPPE is useful for measuring Taiwanese nursing practice environment

Purpose: This study had three objectives. The first objective was to develop the contents of a continuing professional development module (CPDM) for physical therapists geared toward increasing the use of standardized balance measures examine patients with balance dysfunction. The second objective was to assess the impact of the CPDM by measuring change in the clinicians' choice of measures using a patient case as well as the degree to which they changed their practice. The final purpose was to identify barriers and facilitators of knowledge translation using a CPDM. Subjects: A sample of convenience was used to recruit therapists through two home care agencies. Forty therapists participated in a one-day continuing professional development module (CPDM) regarding the use of standardized balance measures for patients with balance dysfunction. Method: A CPDM was designed based on the literature on adult learning, knowledge translation, and continuing professional development formats. Overlapping themes derived from this literature were combined to develop and present the module. Balance measures chosen for the content of the course were based on the literature and clinical relevance. Several tools were developed and administered to collect data on four levels of evaluation including: 1) participation using return rate of commitment to change forms, 2) satisfaction using a 5-point Likert evaluation form, 3) change in learning using change in pre/post case study scoring and a self assessment tool, and 4) change in performance using a commitment to change form and interview themes. Statistical tests used included descriptive, paired t-tests, and wilcoxon ranked sign test. In addition, semi-structured interviews were utilized. Results: Subjects satisfaction in the module was excellent and there was an 80% return rate of the commitment to change (CTC) forms. Statistically significant change scores were found in pre/post case study testing and self-assessment questions in regards to learning occurring following the module. Commitment to change forms and interview themes supported an actual change in clinicians' performance. Conclusion: Knowledge transfer can occur in a CPDM. The changes appeared to result from utilizing principles including accountability, multiple teaching strategies and facility support. The results of this study support the development of a CPDM to facilitate knowledge transfer in this specific area of physical therapy practice, as well as provide a model for other knowledge translation studies in the profession of physical therapy.

Based on the findings of the study, recommendations were extended to the course designer and the instructors who teach the course for the improvement of the course. The data collection instruments used for the study were a Needs Analysis Questionnaire administered to fifty-three students and structured interviews conducted with the six course instructors, sixteen departmental instructors, ten graduates and ten professionals. The reliability of the questionnaire was measured by using Cronbach Alpha test and all the instruments were pilot-tested. Both qualitative and quantitative data were gathered which were analyzed using descriptive statistics (percentages and frequencies). The study brought into light the fact that translation particularly from English into Turkish was perceived to be a very important skill primarily in students&rsquo
departmental studies most of which they do in Turkish and for which they do most of their field-specific readings in English, which renders transfer from the foreign language into the native language indispensable. Perceptions of the participants also revealed that the translation course, in addition to improving the translation skill, raised competence in the foreign language, primarily in terms of enhancing knowledge of vocabulary, reading comprehension skill and writing skill. One of the major strengths of the translation course was found out to be the total relevance of the content of its translation materials to the students&rsquo
area of study. Preferences of the course instructors and the students were generally in line with the requirements of the target situations and the suggestions of the literature. Based on the findings, recommendations were extended to the course designer and the instructors. The most important ones included were extending the duration of the course from one semester to two semesters

Localisation work has been paramount to the global success of videogames throughout the decades. However, language professionals often have to work with several constraints, non-linear scripts and confusing translatable assets. Conversely, non-professional videogame translators wish to fill the void left by software houses who haven't provided an official localisation of their favourite videogames. They translate out of passion and fidelity to the brand, albeit violating the developers' intellectual property, thus excluding any profit motive. More importantly, translation hackers translate works which have been out for many years. This allows them to familiarize extensively with the game and be free of time contraints. Moreover, they benefit from the support of the fandom. This paper focuses on the diverging working conditions between professional videogame localisers and non-professional translation hackers. The aim is to analyse what the industry can learn from the amateur context of work and the potential impact to the final product. In the first chapter I introduce the theoretical framework of non-professional translation, videogame localisation, ROMhacking, the motive behind fan activity and ethical consequences. In the second chapter I delve into my research metholodogy. It consists of interviews to the respective translators of The House in Fata Morgana (2012), Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (2010) and The Walking Dead: the Final Season (2018). Each question is linked to a hypotesis based upon the findings of previous studies. In chapter three the results are reported, compared and discussed so that my hypothesis may be confirmed or refuted. The resulting findings are taken as the generalised procedure in professional and non-professional videogame translation. Finally, conclusions are drawn related to the room for improvement in the professional practice and prospective studies regarding translational differences beetween ROMhacking and localisation.

Aquest estudi vol demostrar diferències en els patrons de lectura d'una pàgina web en base a les diferències ocupacionals dels participants i la finalitat de lectura. La recerca es realitza amb 20 participants dividits en dos grups: un grup de lectors professionals, on els participants són professionals de la lectura com traductors, editors i correctors, i un grup de lectura recreativa, on les seves professions no impliquen lectura detallada, com xefs, enginyers i personal militar. Tots els participants van completar quatre tasques dissenyades amb quatre finalitats de lectura: 1) sense objectiu específic, 2) per estudiar el tema, 3) per obtenir informació, i 4) per compartir informació. El text de partida en anglès presenta iOS 7. Per al test es va usar la versió web oficial en coreà, després d'inserir-li cinc tipus d'error segons el model d'avaluació LISA. Es va gravar la pantalla dels participants amb programari específic i es van usar Protocols en Veu Alta (TAP) per als seus informes verbals. L'anàlisi suggereix que els errors de traducció es perceben de diferent manera quan la finalitat lectora i la professió dels lectors varien. El grup de lectura professional va aplicar una lectura lineal i meticulosa, mentre que el grup de lectura recreativa va optar per una lectura circular i no rigorosa. El primer grup va detectar gran quantitat d'errors, mentre que el segon va mostrar un baix percentatge de detecció d'errors. Malgrat això, el grup professional mostra major nivell de tolerància als errors de traducció en el procés de comprensió i el grup recreatiu major nivell de frustració a la falta de comprensió. L'autoritat de la companyia encarregada de la web va exercir gran influència en el nivell de confiança del grup de lectura recreativa.
Este estudio investiga diferencias en la lectura de una página web traducida en base a las diferencias ocupacionales de los participantes y la finalidad de lectura. La investigación se realiza con 20 participantes divididos en dos grupos: un grupo de lectores profesionales, cuyos participantes son profesionales de la lectura como traductores, editores y correctores, y un grupo de lectura recreativa, cuyas profesiones no implican lectura detallada, como chefs, ingenieros y personal militar. Todos los participantes completaron cuatro tareas diseñadas con cuatro finalidades de lectura: 1) sin objetivo específico, 2) para estudiar el tema, 3) para obtener información, y 4) para compartir información. Para estudiar como los lectores perciben los errores de traducción y la relación entre patrones de lectura y finalidad lectora, se introdujeron cinco tipos de errores de traducción en una web. Se grabó la pantalla de los participantes con software específico y se usaron Protocolos en Voz Alta (TAP) para sus informes verbales. El análisis sugiere que los errores de traducción se perciben de diferente manera cuando la finalidad lectora y la profesión de los lectores varían. El grupo de lectura profesional aplicó una lectura lineal y concienzuda, mientras que el grupo de lectura recreativa optó por una lectura circular y no rigurosa. El primer grupo detectó gran cantidad de errores, mientras que el segundo mostró un bajo porcentaje de detección de errores. Pese a ello, el grupo profesional muestra mayor nivel de tolerancia a los errores de traducción en el proceso de comprensión y el grupo recreativo mayor nivel de frustración a la falta de comprensión. La autoridad de la compañía encargada de la web ejerció gran influencia en el nivel de confianza del grupo de lectura recreativa.
As a part of process-oriented research efforts, the study aimed to test occupational differences and purpose-based differences in reading pattern of a translated web page. The research used two reading groups with ten participants in each: a heavy-reading group, whose participants were reading professionals such as translators, editors and proofreaders, and a light-reading group, whose professions did not involve intensive reading, such as chefs, engineers, and military personnel. The participants in both groups completed four different tasks that were designed to provoke four different reading purposes: 1) reading without a specific task, 2) reading for studying subject matter, 3) reading for retrieving information, and 4) reading for sharing information. In order to learn more about how readers perceive translation errors and to test the relations between the reading patterns and the reading purposes, five different types of translation errors were planted in a web page. The participants’ screen activity was recorded by a screen recording software, and TAP is used for their verbal reports. In-depth analysis of the results suggests that occupations and reading purposes have meaningful impacts on the reading patterns of the translated web page. The heavy-reading group displayed very strict bottom-up approaches, with linear and thorough reading, whereas the light-reading group showed relaxed top-down approaches, with circular and not-thorough reading. The heavy group showed critical attitudes in detecting errors, while the light-reading group showed extremely low error-detection rates, with relaxed attitudes. Surprisingly, in spite of the critical error detection pattern, the tolerance level of translation errors in the process of comprehension was much higher in the heavy-reading group, and the frustration level of incomprehension was much higher in the light-reading group. The authority of the company producing the web page also heavily influenced the trust level of the light-reading group.

The prenatal period and early years of life are a time at which development of the brain and biological systems progresses rapidly, influenced by the quality of the early environments in which a child is raised (McCain, Mustard, & Shanker, 2007). Infants and children exposed to early adversity, such as poverty, neglect, abuse, violence in the home, or unresponsive caregivers, are at an increased risk for negative developmental health outcomes (Lupien, McEwen, Gunnar, & Heim, 2009). The population of children involved in the child protection and family justice system has a high incidence of exposure to adverse early experiences (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2010). Children and families encounter many professionals in the legal and justice system involved in providing supports and services to families and determining care and custody arrangements for children, including mediators, lawyers and judges. Knowledge on the topics of early child development and the impact of maltreatment may assist these professionals in working with children and families. The present study explores knowledge on the topics of early child development and the impact of maltreatment, the influence of knowledge on attitudes towards practices involving infants and children, and knowledge translation preferences of judges, lawyers and mediators working in the child protection and family law sectors in Alberta. A mixed methods approach combining focus groups within a small purposeful sample and a survey with a larger sample of the population was applied. A joint analysis of the results from both methods concludes that knowledge varies among the professional population and identifies areas where knowledge can influence attitudes towards practices involving children, such as in representation and recommendations to clients by lawyers and mediators, and in assessing evidence and making judgments in the best interests of the child. Preferences for knowledge translation approaches include traditional professional development activities, consultation with colleagues, and evidence provided by expert witnesses. Recommendations for further research to characterize knowledge of child development among justice professionals, to expand approaches to knowledge translation, and to promote specialization of professionals and courts are put forth with the aim to protect and support our most vulnerable citizens.

Appropriate digital citizenship skills are considered essential for modern professionals, including signed language interpreters. However, little is known about the experiences and practices of interpreter educators regarding digital citizenship. This exploratory qualitative interview study was conducted to examine the experiences and practices of interpreter educators related to incorporating opportunities for digital citizenship skill-building in their teaching practice. A conceptual framework based on digital citizenship theory guided development of this study. Data were collected from interviews of 6 interpreter educators in bachelor-degree programs in American Sign Language/English interpreting across the United States. Data sets were analyzed through open and axial coding and assessed for themes and patterns. Findings of the study indicated that interpreter educators were aware of elements of digital citizenship but were not knowledgeable about institutional or other policies, that they prioritized the soft skills of digital citizenship, and that they assumed their students acquired the technical skills of digital citizenship elsewhere. Findings may lead to better informed pedagogical decisions about incorporating digital citizenship into instruction, better prepared new professionals, and can contribute to positive social change for practitioners and the consumers they serve.

Ces institutions confondent souvent l’enseignement de la traduction et la traduction utilisée comme outil d’enseignement des langues étrangères. Le programme de traduction de l’université du Botswana ne fait pas exception, et nous proposons donc de le reconceptualiser afin qu’il réponde aux exigences de la profession. Par la mise à l’épreuve du modèle de l’analyse matricielle définitoire, outil linguistique destiné à interpréter et comparer la manière dont les langues naturelles construisent le sens, la présente thèse se propose de déceler les paramètres de l’environnement d’apprentissage sur lesquels une intervention est requise pour améliorer la qualité du programme et le rendre plus efficace. Pour ce faire, nous analyserons les erreurs de traduction commises par les étudiants qui suivent ce programme en vue d’en identifier les sources et de prendre les mesures destinées à en réduire la probabilité d’occurrence par la définition d’objectifs d’apprentissage adaptés à ce public, accompagnés des bases d’une solide assise théorique à destination de l’enseignant
Our initial observation is that, in spite of the growing interest in teaching translation in institutions offering foreign language programmes, no study, to our knowledge, has been done on the designing of a professional translation programme appropriate for foreign language learners which could allow them to acquire translation competence, that is, knowledge and skills required by translators in a professional setting. These institutions often confuse teaching of translation and use of translation as a foreign language teaching tool. The translation programme of the University of Botswana is no exception, and we therefore propose to redesign it so that it can respond to the requirements of the profession. By putting to test the Defining Matrix Analysis model, a linguistic tool intended to interpret and compare the way natural languages construct sense, this thesis proposes to find the parameters of the learning environment on which an intervention is required in order to improve the quality and the efficiency of this programme. To achieve this goal, we are going to analyse translation errors made by students who are pursuing this translation programme with the aim of identifying their sources and taking measures destined to reduce their probability of occurrence by defining learning objectives adapted to this group of learners, accompanied by a solid theoretical basis for teachers

Los estudios sobre la identidad profesional de traductores e intérpretes han considerado la identidad profesional desde el contexto institucional, laboral y formativo. Sin embargo, la literatura no ha prestado atención a las actividades de los traductores e intérpretes fuera del ámbito laboral o educativo. Una de esas actividades es el servicio voluntario que es realizada por estudiantes y profesionales. Por lo tanto, el presente trabajo de investigación busca analizar la influencia que tienen los programas de voluntariado en la identidad profesional de los traductores e intérpretes. En ese sentido, se propone aplicar entrevistas a estudiantes y profesionales de las universidades de Perú que hayan tenido experiencia en programas de voluntariado enfocados en su profesión para conocer sus experiencias y percepciones, y cumplir con los objetivos propuestos.
Translator and Interpreter professional identity studies have approached professional identity from an institutional, working, and formative context. However, literature has paid attention to translator and interpreter activities outside the working and educational environment. One of these is the voluntary service done by students and professionals. Therefore, this study aims at analyzing the impact of volunteering programs in the translators and interpreter’s professional identity. This would be carried out through interviews to students and professionals from Peruvian universities who have participated in volunteering programs focused on their profession to collect their experiences, perceptions and to address the proposed objectives.

Dans la continuité des réflexions valorisant la dimension culturelle de la formation linguistique des traducteurs, cette étude part d’un constat, l’échec de nombreux candidats aux examens d’admission aux grandes écoles de traduction en Europe, et se propose de chercher des solutions. Le manque de sensibilisation à la médiation culturelle durant la formation linguistique de ces candidats a été identifié comme la raison principale du problème par plusieurs formateurs professionnels, sans qu’ils indiquent pour autant comment introduire la médiation culturelle en didactique des langues étrangères et de la traduction. Il a donc été nécessaire de mener une série d’études empiriques pour apporter des réponses à ce questionnement. Cette thèse défend l’idée que le développement de la performance de médiation culturelle, désormais exigée chez les futurs traducteurs, est inenvisageable sans prise en compte d’un traitement particulier de l’imaginaire ethnosocioculturel étranger. Elle dresse une typologie des diverses manières dont cet imaginaire s’invite spontanément et silencieusement dans différents genres de discours et analyse la manière dont cet imaginaire est traité, sous l’angle de la médiation culturelle, en traductologie et en didactique. Ainsi, une enquête réalisée auprès de 418 universitaires (enseignants et étudiants confondus) a permis de pointer les éléments entravant une formation réussie des traducteurs-médiateurs culturels, à la suite de quoi un certain nombre de suggestions a été formulé pour appuyer cet objectif officiellement annoncé dans les universités saoudiennes, sachant que ces suggestions accordent au traitement de l’imaginaire ethnosocioculturel des finalités différentes selon que le traitement envisagé se situe dans une formation de nature pédagogique ou professionnelle des traducteurs
In line with discussions highlighting the cultural dimension of translators' language training, this study is based on an observation: the constant failure of many applicants to pass the entrance exams to Europe's leading translation schools and offers to seek solutions to the problem. Several professional trainers identified the lack of awareness of cultural mediation during the language training for the candidates, as the key reason for the issue, however they did not indicate how to introduce the cultural mediation in the teaching of foreign languages and translation. It was therefore necessary to conduct a series of empirical studies in order to provide answers to the question. This study defends the idea that the development of the performance of cultural mediation, now required of future translators, is inconceivable without taking into account a specific treatment of the foreign ethno-socio-cultural imaginary. It presents a typology of the various ways in which this imaginary spontaneously and silently invites itself into different kinds of speeches and analyses the way in which this imaginary is addressed from a cultural mediation perspective in translation studies and didactics. A survey of 418 academics (teachers and students alike) identified elements that hindered successful training of translators as cultural mediators, and as a result, a number of suggestions were made to support this officially announced goal in Saudi universities, bearing in mind that these suggestions assign different conclusions to the ethno-socio-cultural approach, depending on whether the intended approach is aimed at a pedagogical or a professional training of translators

L'equip format per traductors de plantilla i de revisors locals s'ha convertit en un tema d'interès per als investigadors, els professors de llengua i els professionals de la traducció. La revisió de la traducció és cada vegada més rellevant en l'ambient de la localització de programari. Les principals preguntes de recerca en aquest projecte són: La versió en espanyol és una fidel traducció del text escrit en anglès? Per què alguns clients mexicans prefereixen utilitzar les aplicacions de programari en idioma anglès? Per avaluar si la traducció i la funcionalitat de la interfície de les tres aplicacions eren apropiades, es va realitzar una extensa anàlisi lingüístic de seixanta segments de text extrets de les tres aplicacions traduïdes i revisades per traductors interns i revisors locals, respectivament. En segon lloc, un selecte grup de clients i usuaris de parla hispana de les aplicacions de Siemens completi un qüestionari d'avaluació electrònica. I per entendre millor les preferències d'idioma dels clients mexicans, es va realitzar una anàlisi lingüístic d'una sèrie d'informes de problemes presentats pels usuaris de les aplicacions durant sis mesos. L'anàlisi de les dades indica que els errors de traducció i el llenguatge es van corregir durant l'etapa de revisió. Les proves dels instruments de l'enquesta suggereix que la versió localitzada de la interfície d'usuari es llegeix amb fluïdesa i naturalitat. No obstant això, es va trobar que la principal diferència estadística entre la font i el text de destinació en el nombre dels errors funcionals. Per aquesta raó, alguns usuaris de parla hispana en realitat canviar a la versió en anglès dels productes de programari. I, finalment, l'evidència dels informes de problemes suggereix que el nombre d'Informe de problemes és baix durant el període de temps determinat i que no hi ha cap crítica per qüestions funcionals.

Los resultados de la encuesta sugieren que la versión localizada de la interfaz se lee fluida y naturalmente. Por esta razón, algunos usuarios de habla hispana prefieren utilizar la versión en inglés de los productos de software. Y, finalmente, el análisis de los informes de problemas linguísticos indica que el número fue bajo durante el periodo de tiempo determinado y que no hubo ninguna crítica por cuestiones funcionales.
The main task of this empirical research project is to explore the Spanish translation revision/review process of three software solutions developed by Siemens PLM Software Inc. We will focus our attention especially on the role of Spanish in-country reviewers or revisers as one of the main agents for localized output. The in-house translator and in-country reviewer team is emerging as a concept of interest to researchers, l and translation practitioners. Translation revision efforts are becoming increasingly more relevant in a software localization scenario. The main research questions in this project are: Does the Spanish version communicate what the English does? Why do some Mexican customers prefer to use the English-language software applications? To evaluate the language appropriateness and functionality of the user interface of the PLM software products in the Spanish-localized versions, we conducted a detailed language evaluation of sixty UI segments translated and revised by in-house translators and in-country reviewers respectively. The data analysis indicates that translation and language errors were corrected during the revision stage. Furthermore, an electronic assessment questionnaire was completed by a select group of Siemens PLM software Spanish-speaking customers. The evidence from the survey instruments suggests that the localized version of the user interface reads fluently and naturally. However, the main statistical difference between the source and the target text was found in the number of functional errors. For this reason, some Spanish-speaking end-users actually switch to the English version of the software solutions. And finally, to further understand the Mexican customers’ language preference, we collected and analyzed a number of problem reports submitted by our application users during a six-month period. The evidence from the problem reports suggests that the number of PRs is low for that particular time frame and that there is no indication of any functional issues. The research findings should have important implications for the practice of software translation revision and for raising awareness that localization is a team effort involving more players than just translators and revisers.

La prestation coordonnée de soins de santé primaires (SSP) a été éprouvée comme améliorant la qualité et l’accès des soins prodigués aux Canadiens. Plusieurs études ont notamment confirmé les avantages des infirmières praticiennes (IP) et des modèles interprofessionnels en SSP pour le système de santé. Les écrits suggèrent toutefois que l’intégration des IP en SSP est jalonnée de tensions et restructurations en raison d’une confusion supposée de leur rôle. À ce jour, les recherches ont principalement ciblé les barrières et facilitateurs de l’intégration du rôle des IP. Une analyse critique des dynamiques socioprofessionnelles et politiques de l’intégration des IP n’a toutefois pas encore été réalisée. Une ethnographie critique combinant la Théorie de l’acteur-réseau et les concepts foucaldiens de discours, savoir et pouvoir a permis l’examen des interactions sémiotiques caractérisant certains milieux de SSP. Différents modèles interprofessionnels de SSP (2 centres de santé communautaire, 2 équipes de santé familiale et 2 cliniques dirigées par les IP) ont été investis. Les données issues d’entrevues semi-dirigées avec des IP (n=23), d’observations directes de milieux et de rencontres interprofessionnelles, et d’analyse documentaire ont été soumises à une analyse thématique puis une analyse critique de discours. Les résultats montrent que la valeur morale des IP, les finalités organisationnelles des milieux de SSP, les normes de pratique, la collaboration interprofessionnelle et la prise en charge des patients disposent les IP à la négociation de leur rôle et à certains enjeux socioprofessionnels et politiques qui génèrent plusieurs contrecoups: pluralisme de leurs rôles professionnels, dissonance identitaire, sentiments d’incompétence et d’incertitude, glissements discursifs dans leurs propres discours, et divers états émotionnels et souffrances. Ces contrecoups commandent diverses stratégies d’adaptation et de résistance permettant aux IP de gérer ces tensions. Plusieurs entités non-humaines (inscription des clientèles, discours de soutien aux médecins et espaces physiques) émergent comme acteurs agissant sur l’intégration et la négociation du rôle des IP en SSP. Cette étude permet de décrire le processus de traduction du rôle de l’IP en SSP qui problématise certains discours tenus pour acquis en SSP. Elle permet également de proposer une nouvelle définition de l’intégration du rôle des IP en SSP.

International news departments of Taiwan’s newspapers were theoretically supposed to be the unit in which organizational control exists much less. Considering the characteristics that the translators’ work belongs to the one-man show and depends on news agency’s data, the author thinks they enjoy higher professional autonomy than news reporter. In real situations, however, translators face organizational control, including formal control from the newspaper owners and informal ones from the bureaucracy and the news-making process, just like reporters. With the trends of international news, which are being localized, the work distinction between translators and reporters has been blurring, and the owners think translators and reporters both are their protégés. But unlike reporters, translators, who are limited to the facts that international news secondary to national ones and the bosses play the role of agent between owners and translators, suffer more from the bureaucracy and the news-making process. As a result, this research attempts to outline the international news bureaucracy and making process in Taiwan newspapers, and to define translators’ professional autonomy and factors which influence their autonomy, by in-depth interviews of international news directors and staff at four newspapers in Taiwan. Then, the author highlights that how translators are controlled by the news organizations and what is the best strategy to response against control.

La traduction bénévole et collaborative, sous ses diverses formes telles que l’initiative Wikipedia, croît de jour en jour et requiert d’être encadrée pour garantir un contrôle de qualité. Et pourtant, la traduction non professionnelle est un domaine encore peu exploré. Dans le milieu de la traduction professionnelle, des critères assez sévères existent en ce qui concerne la formation et l’expérience du traducteur, l’assurance-qualité, les délais, et les droits d’auteur. Néanmoins, dans le cadre de la traduction qui implique la collaboration en ligne et des centaines de traducteurs (souvent bénévoles), ces aspects sont nettement plus flous. Ce projet de recherche aborde la question centrale de l’assurance qualité au sein des équipes de traducteurs non professionnels. Cela se fait sous l’angle de la recherche-action effectuée dans le secteur sans but lucratif, précisément avec le groupe des Traducteurs du Roi que j’ai formé en 2011 pour combler le manque de documentation en français au sein de notre confession religieuse. Il me semblait que nous ne pouvions simplement appliquer à notre équipe les normes et méthodes de la traduction professionnelle pour assurer la qualité. La nature de la traduction non professionnelle exige une approche personnalisée. J’ai décidé d’effectuer des recherches à l’intérieur des Traducteurs du Roi pour élaborer un système d’assurance qualité conçu spécifiquement pour la traduction non professionnelle. En adaptant des modèles professionnels au contexte non professionnel, j’ai été en mesure de créer un processus approprié de sélection des traducteurs, un processus global de révision des traductions et un processus ciblé de formation des traducteurs. Les critères de sélection comprennent les compétences et les traits de caractère qui favorisent la réussite au sein du système d’assurance qualité. Des processus spécifiques de révision sont jumelés aux niveaux de qualité souhaités en fonction de l’objet des documents. La composante de formation se concentre sur les changements de paradigmes encapsulés dans un ensemble de meilleures pratiques pour les traducteurs non professionnels. Ces trois éléments, la sélection, la révision et la formation, se complètent dans un système efficace d’assurance qualité. D’autres équipes de traducteurs non professionnels peuvent intégrer ce système, puisqu’il est spécifiquement adapté aux défis de travailler avec des traducteurs bénévoles et n’est pas spécifique à certaines langues. Mon projet apporte une importante contribution à la traductologie, premièrement en valorisant le domaine de la traduction non professionnelle et en soulignant le besoin d’une approche différente de celle de la traduction professionnelle. Je démontre que l’assurance qualité est possible au sein d’un groupe de traducteurs non professionnels et fournit un système efficace pour y arriver. Plus largement, mes recherches visent à sensibiliser les traductologues à deux idées importantes. D'abord, l'apparition inévitable de nouvelles pratiques de traduction différentes des pratiques traditionnelles, pratiques qu'il conviendra de prendre de plus en plus en compte et dont les leçons pourront être tirées. En outre, les chercheurs pourraient s’efforcer davantage d'assurer que les concepts, les normes et le métalangage de la traductologie soient compréhensibles et applicables dans des contextes non traditionnels.
Volunteer and collaborative translation in diverse forms, such as the Wikipedia initiative, is growing daily and needs direction in order to guarantee quality. And yet, non-professional translation is a field that remains largely unexplored. In the realm of professional translation, there are strict criteria related to translator training and experience, quality assurance, deadlines, and copyrights. However, in a context that involves online collaboration and hundreds of translators (often volunteers), these aspects are much less defined. This research project addresses the crucial issue of quality assurance within non-professional translation teams. This is done through the lens of action research carried out in the non-profit sector, specifically with a group called The King’s Translators which I formed in November 2011 to meet the need for French resources within our church denomination. It was apparent to me that we could not simply apply professional translation norms and methods within our team in order to ensure quality. The nature of non-professional translation requires a customized approach. I decided to conduct research from within The King’s Translators to develop a quality assurance system designed specifically for non-professional translation. By adapting professional models to the non-professional environment, I was able to create processes for appropriate translator selection, comprehensive translation revision/editing, and focused translator training. The criteria for translator selection include skills and character traits that enable a team member to succeed within the quality assurance system. Specific translation revision/editing processes are matched to desired quality levels based on the purpose of the translated documents. The translator training component concentrates on paradigm shifts encapsulated in a set of best practices for non-professional translators. These three elements of translator selection, translation revision/editing, and translator training harmonize in an effective quality assurance system. This system can be implemented by other non-professional translation teams, as it is specifically adapted to the challenges of working with volunteer translators and is not language specific. This project makes an important contribution to Translation Studies, first by highlighting the field of non-professional translation and emphasizing the need of an approach different than what is used for professional translation. I demonstrate how quality assurance is possible within a team of non-professional translators and provide an effective system for achieving it. On a broader level, my research aims to make Translation Studies scholars more aware that while new translation practices running counter to traditional mindsets will inevitably emerge, this should not prevent us from investigating and learning from them. In addition, researchers could make a greater effort to ensure that Translation Studies concepts, norms, and metalanguage are understandable and applicable in non-traditional contexts.

No âmbito de um projeto de tradução realizado durante o estágio curricular no Centro de Línguas BabeliUM1, pertencente ao Instituto de Letras e Ciências Humanas2 da Universidade do Minho3, procuraremos mostrar como a tradução turística depende em muito do papel do tradutor para conseguir construir uma comunicação eficaz e adequada na língua e cultura de chegada, tendo em conta que a finalidade da tradução se centra na promoção de um destino turístico. Assim sendo, pretendemos com o nosso trabalho, inspirado no formato de um roteiro, demonstrar como procedemos à concretização deste projeto, ilustrando, para este efeito, as diferentes etapas que percorremos ao longo das quais iremos refletir sobre o que significa prestar um serviço de tradução profissional, tendo em conta os métodos, estratégias e procedimentos de tradução, refletindo ainda sobre questões de equivalência ao nível da competência do tradutor.
The importance of the tourism sector in the Portuguese economic and social outlook is certainly not new. Over the years, however, this sector has been gaining in importance, becoming a leading figure in the development of the country. For the translation market, no sector plays such a central role as tourism, because it is inextricably linked to the communication between different languages and cultures. As part of a translation project carried out during an internship at the BabeliUM4 Language Centre, which is part of the Institute of Arts and Human Sciences5 of the University of Minho6, we pretend to show how translation in the area of tourism depends deeply on the role of the translator in order to be able to build effective and adequate communication in the language and culture of arrival, bearing in mind that the translation focuses on the promotion of a tourist destination. Through this work, which takes on the format of a guide, we pretend to demonstrate how we proceeded with the implementation of this project, illustrating for this purpose the different stages we went through while reflecting on what it means to provide a professional translation service as well as considering translation methods, strategies and procedures and addressing some questions of equivalence and translator competence.
Die Bedeutung des Tourismussektors im Panorama der portugiesischen Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft ist sicherlich nicht neu. Im Laufe der Jahre hat dieser jedoch an Bedeutung gewonnen und eine Vorreiterrolle in der Entwicklung des Landes eingenommen. Für den Übersetzungsmarkt spielt kein Sektor so eine zentrale Rolle wie der Tourismus, der untrennbar mit der Kommunikation in verschiedenen Sprachen und Kulturen verbunden ist. Im Rahmen unseres Übersetzungsprojekts während eines Praktikums im Sprachzentrum BabeliUM7, das Teil des Instituts für Sprachen und Humanwissenschaften8 der Universität Minho9 ist, werden wir versuchen darzulegen, wie die Übersetzung im Fachbereich Tourismus stark von der Rolle des Übersetzers abhängt, um eine effektive und adäquate Kommunikation, sowohl in der Zielsprache, als auch in der Zielkultur zu ermöglichen, wobei zu beachten ist, dass die Übersetzung die Werbung eines touristischen Reiseziels vorsieht. In Form eines Führers werden wir versuchen darzulegen, wie wir in verschiedenen Etappen dieses Projekt ausgeführt haben. Ferner werden wir darüber reflektieren, was es bedeutet einen professionellen Übersetzungsservice zu bieten, und dabei Fragen zu Übersetzungsmethoden und -verfahren, Äquivalenz und der Kompetenz des Übersetzers behandeln.
