Abstract:
During the spring semester of 2020, COVID-19 disrupted teaching at universities across the United States ("Coronavirus Hits Campus," 2020). Transitioning courses online presented many difficulties for instructors (Gannon, 2020; McMurtrie, 2020b; Schmalz, 2020), and educators in family and consumer sciences (FCS)–and dietetics in particular–worked to engage students, administer exams, address confusion with content, and identify alternatives for supervised practice within a very short timeframe. This paper discusses the challenges faced and solutions discovered by undergraduate and graduate dietetics program faculty at New Mexico State University (NMSU) in transitioning face-to-face courses to online. It also discusses how changes in teaching practices during this time will affect the future of dietetics education. Both programs are accredited by The Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND), which requires programs (undergraduate, graduate, and dietetic internships) to meet specific learning competencies and supervised practice hours and provide documentation that requirements are met (Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 2020b). Although accreditation is not unique to dietetics programs, the specific requirements, varied practice sites, and range of possible solutions merit attention.

The fixed-target NA61/SHINE experiment (SPS CERN) looks for the critical point (CP) of strongly interacting matter and the properties of the onset of deconfinement. It is a scan of measurements of particle spectra and fluctuations in proton–proton, proton–nucleus, and nucleus–nucleus interactions as a function of collision energy and system size. This gives unique possibilities to researching critical properties of the dense hot hadronic matter created in the collision process. New measurements and their objectives, related to the third stage of the experiment after 2020, are presented and discussed here.

Abstract:
Background The exceptional competitiveness of the orthopedic surgery specialty, combined with the unclear impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on residency recruitment, has presented significant challenges to applicants and residency program directors. With limited in-person opportunities in the 2020-2021 application cycle, applicants have been pressed to gauge chances and best fit by browsing program websites. Objective The aim of the study was to assess the accessibility and content of accredited orthopedic surgery residency program websites during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods Using the online database of the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), we compiled a list of accredited orthopedic surgery residency programs in the United States. Program websites were evaluated across four domains: program overview, education, research opportunities, and application details. Each website was assessed twice in July 2020, during a period of adjustment to the COVID-19 pandemic, and twice in November 2020, following the October ERAS application deadline. Results A total of 189 accredited orthopedic surgery residency programs were identified through ERAS. Of these programs, 3 (1.6%) did not have functional website links on ERAS. Data analysis of content in each domain revealed that most websites included program details, a description of the didactic curriculum, and sample rotation schedules. Between the two evaluation periods in July and November 2020, the percentage of program websites containing informative videos and virtual tours rose from 12.2% (23/189) to 48.1% (91/189; P<.001) and from 0.5% (1/189) to 13.2% (25/189; P<.001), respectively. However, the number of programs that included information about a virtual subinternship or virtual interview on their websites did not change. Over the 4-month period, larger residency programs with 5 or more residents were significantly more likely to add a program video (P<.001) or virtual tour (P<.001) to their websites. Conclusions Most residency program websites offered program details and an overview of educational and research opportunities; however, few addressed the virtual transition of interviews and subinternships during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract:
Thesis: S.M. in Real Estate Development, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Program in Real Estate Development in conjunction with the Center for Real Estate, September, 2020<br>Cataloged from student-submitted PDF of thesis.<br>Includes bibliographical references (pages 57-61).<br>The government of the District of Columbia in 2019, unveiled a 2020 - 2050 Housing Production Goal popularly tagged "#36000by2025". The Initiative details Washington DC's goal to develop 36,000 new housing units in partnership with developers in the city, including 12,000 affordable housing units between the years 2020 and 2025. The Initiative seeks to reduce homelessness, alleviate the constrained local housing market, and preempt an anticipated housing shortage in relation to the forecasted economic and population growth in Washington DC. This thesis focuses on identifying and analyzing the types of incentives or barriers for developers to add additional affordable housing. This thesis first explores the details of this Initiative, reviewing its history and the factors that led to its creation. The thesis will also review its specific goals and proposed methods towards achieving them.<br>Through a literature and policy review, the thesis defines the framework within which the city and developers define affordability for housing development projects. The thesis then looks to real estate developers operating in the city who have or intend to proceed with market-rate, mixed-income, and affordable housing projects. Through interviews, an analysis of housing development trends, and a review of upcoming housing projects, the thesis seeks to understand what challenges developers face with the housing affordability requirements and how Washington DC's Initiative and Comprehensive Plan affects their developmental goals. The thesis will also review what barriers real estate developers face and explore how they can be overcome. This thesis will also pivot to Washington DC Government's planning process to review what incentives are being proposed which encourage both new affordable housing development and the preservation of endangered affordable units.<br>Via interviews and literature review, the thesis explores possible areas of improvement on the initiative that meet the city's goals and support real estate developers' ambitions. Andersson, Frida, and Fredrika Vångell.

Full text
Abstract:
The aim of this study was from a sociological approach examine differences and similarities between the students who started the Physical Education Teacher Program at the Swedish School of Sports and Health Sciences (GIH) in 2008 and 2011. What background has the GIH-student? What sport experience has the GIH-student? What are the student’s perceived knowledge and skills in Physical Education? What attitude towards the subject Physical Education and the Physical Education Teacher Program does the GIH-student have?   Method: The method used for this study was a quantitative method and the research was carried out through a questionnaire. The questionnaire was answered by 100 students who were accepted in 2011 at the Physical Education Teacher Program (GIH). In 2008, data was collected through the same questionnaire answered by 77 students who started their education in 2008. The results from the questionnaire conducted in 2008 were compared with the results conducted in this study. Moreover, the responses were processed in SPSS 19.0 and then analyzed by Bourdieu's three concepts habitus, capital and field. Results: The results of the study showed that those students who began the Physical Education Teacher Program at GIH in 2008 and in 2011 were individuals with great interest in sport. There were more students in 2011 who grew up in Stockholm and there were also more students with a foreign background. It was also noted that it has been significantly easier to become accepted to the Physical Education Teacher Program at GIH in 2011 than in 2008. A lower amount of students had experience of competition and leadership in sport in 2011. We could also see that the spread of knowledge and skills related to Physical Education was greater among the students accepted in 2011 than in 2008. Why the students applied to GIH were because it is situated in Stockholm and because of the good reputation the school has. However we could see that this good reputation is not that strong reason for the students in 2011. The majority of the students in both 2008 and 2011 considered that their pupils’ knowledge and skills should be assessed.   Conclusions: A firm conclusion could not be drawn regarding how the increased number of students who gets accepted to the Physical Education Teacher Program at GIH affects the type of students who apply to the program. The tendency found was that in 2008 the student groups were more homogeneous. In both groups there was deficient knowledge in central parts in Physical Education. Therefore it will be higher requirements on the education to make sure that the knowledge reaches an acceptable ground level in the end of the education.

Abstract:
This diploma project is in 2 parts. The first part is a program for a so called segregated area where the focus is on acting now, and trying to combine working with social mobilization with an architect's role. The second part is my design proposal, which is a part of this program. Anticipating 2020 is a program for projects spanning over 6 years in Hovsjö, Södertälje that I curate. 5 architects are invited to do one project each. The task is to build a structure or an event, temporary or not, that can inform, spark fantasy, discuss and in other ways be a part of a planning process as well as instant- and future change in Hovsjö. Its purpose is to discuss the existing and possible urban life in relation to planning and upgrading sptially segregated areas in general and the city area Hovsjö in particular. Once a year one architect will do one project or event. I will do the first project in the program, Installation 2014. The program focuses on the role of the architect and architecture in spatially segregated areas, the public spaces that were the outcome and consequence of the functionalist/modernist urban planning, the notion of temporality and events in relation to architecture and vague spaces and creative loopholes.  For whom, by whom and with whom are cities planned? The intention with my design proposal, the Installation 2014, is to create a diversity of public room types and scales in Hovsjö. To be able to keep a big open space open but at the same time being able to have smaller rooms within the big area. To work with a geometrical element - the spehere - trying to describe outdoor public rooms rahter then enclosing them by building walls.<br>Detta examensarbete är i två delar.

Schmitz, Tyler. "Effectiveness of Home Directional Preference Exercise/Stretch Program for Reducing Disability in Mechanical Chronic Low Back Pain in a Residency Clinic, a Quality Improvement Project." Digital Commons @ East Tennessee State University, 2020. https://dc.etsu.edu/asrf/2020/presentations/19.

Full text
Abstract:
Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is defined as pain, muscle tension, or stiffness localized below the costal margin and above the inferior gluteal folds, with or without sciatica, that lasts for at least twelve weeks.1 It is the leading cause of disability and loss of productivity in the United States.2 There is conflicting evidence on what is the most effective nonpharmacological treatment for CLBP. Many studies have shown that any general exercise routine is effective for improving symptoms, but the literature provides conflicting evidence about what specific type of exercise is best.3 A few studies have demonstrated decreased pain and disability with supervised directional preference exercise routines compared to non-directional preference routines. The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a home directional preference exercise/stretch program for reducing disability in mechanical CLBP in patients in a residency clinic and to expand on the limited evidence of directional preference exercise effectiveness. Unlike other directional preference interventional studies, this program’s simplicity and convenience of performing at home potentially could increase patient compliance and therefore effectiveness. Patients were screened at a routine clinic visit and considered eligible if they had a known diagnosis of CLBP. They were excluded if they were in an acute exacerbation. Participating patients were categorized on directional range of motion preference based on their physical exam, either flexion or extension, whichever improved their pain. They were given a simple routine with instructions and pictures consisting of three exercises and stretches that emphasized their specific directional preference. Subjects performed three sets of each routine two to three days per week. Degree of disability score was measured at initial visit by completing the gold standard disability index questionnaire, the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). Degree of disability was reassessed with ODI at a follow-up assessment four to eight weeks later with five follow-up questions regarding compliance and acute exacerbation. Patients were excluded if they were in an acute exacerbation. Pre-interventional disability scores were then compared to post-interventional disability scores. Twelve total patients enrolled in the program. Seven were lost to follow up. Five completed the study at the proper follow up interval; however, one was in an acute exacerbation so was excluded. Of the four patients included, two had extension and two had flexion preference. Three out of four patients had decreased disability scores at follow up. Total post-intervention score on ODI improved by an average of 10 points compared to pre-intervention score for the patients who improved. The most improved post-interventional ODI score category was walking and changing degree of pain. Seventy-five percent of the patients who completed the study had an improvement in their CLBP disability score. However, due to a small sample size and study power, the results are not statistically significant. Therefore, a conclusion cannot be appropriately drawn about the effectiveness of performing a home directional preference exercise/stretch program for reducing disability in mechanical CLBP in patients at a residency clinic. Nevertheless, the results are promising and deserve further investigation with a larger sample size.

Abstract:
Adverse and traumatic childhood experiences (e.g., ACEs) are inversely linked to negative outcomes in adulthood, including lower couple relationship functioning. Clinical research and practice have incorporated implications of ACEs, however much less consideration of ACEs has been given in community-based couple relationship education (CRE). This study explores dyadic effects of ACEs and mindfulness, a potential resilience factor and modifiable skill, on couple relationship quality in a diverse sample of CRE study participants before program start. Results indicate actor and partner effects for ACEs and mindfulness on relationship quality. Implications for research and practice are discussed.

Abstract:
AbstractA new framework, agenda and practice is called for to address the challenges and opportunities architecture must confront in the age of our computationally empowered Post-Fordist network society. This paper introduces the research agenda of ‘agent-based parametric semiology’, and explains the necessity of introducing a new tool, agent-based life-process modelling, as part of the design process, in order to cope with the new complexity and dynamism of architecture’s social functionality. The paper reviews the development of this design research program over the last 10 years. Finally, the paper describes current efforts to move from the illustrative use of life-process modelling to a scientifically grounded quantitative analysis and generative design optimization.
