Abstract:
Abstract: With the development of technology and software, it has become easy to solve difficult problems in every field which use to take a lot of time. The use of software in the field of civil engineering has grown since the last decade. GEO5 is one such software which may be used to solve many geotechnical problems. GEO5 consists of wide range of powerful programs based on analytical method sand the Finite Element Method such as Stability Analysis, Excavation Design, Retaining, Wall Design, Foundation Design, Soil Settlement Analysis, Digital Terrain Model, Geotechnical Finite Element Analysis like analyzing and design of slope, design of retaining walls, settlement analysis, foundation design and much more .It is a very simple and powerful tool for solving geotechnical problems based on traditional analytical methods and Finite Element Methods (FEM).The easy-to-use suite consists of individual programs with a unified and user-friendly interface. Each program is used to analyze a different geotechnical task but all modules communicate with each other to form an integrated suite. In this project modules related to slope stability have been studied in details and then used them for analysis of slope stability. Using GEO5 software the geometry of problems were created in GEO5 and the analysis were carried out considering the stability and economic considerations. Also, the costs of different types of reinforcing methods were determined and compared. It is found that soil nailing is most economical. The slope stability calculation is quite time-consuming, which requires first selecting the correct method and then calculating the coefficient of stability using different formulas. It should also be noted that visualization of the analysis results requires a great deal of time, which is quite impractical. To solve this problem, many geotechnical computer programs have been created, which can be used to report slope stability reports in a split of a second. The most common geotechnical software in Georgia is GEO5 slope stability, which allows us to calculate slope stabilities very quickly and effectively with various methods and standards.

Abstract:
The paper deals with the prediction of the response of a real underground structure subjected to earthquake. A fully dynamic analysis is carried out in the GEO5 FEM program using the Finite Element Method. Limiting our attention to a two-dimensional analysis we focus on the implementation of special boundary conditions along the vertical edges of the computational model. A simple study is carried out first to show that incorrectly applied boundary conditions may significantly influence the actual design of underground structures loaded by vertically propagating shear waves. This study promotes the combination of so called free-field and static boundary conditions as demonstrated on a simple example.

Abstract:
The paper describes a finite element simulation of the response of a real underground structure subjected to earthquake using GEO5 FEM program. It concentrates on the influence of material damping with respect to a specific type of boundary condition prescribed at the bottom of the analyzed domain. It is seen that considering material damping is inevitable particularly in case of so called fixed boundary conditions to arrive at meaningful results. This is demonstrated on an artificial earthquake generated according to a design spectrum defined in Eurocode 8. A viscous damping ratio combined with the results of eigenvalue analysis is used to derive parameters of Rayleigh damping for three specific scenarios promoting the approach based on the lowest natural frequency as sufficiently accurate for the present task.

Abstract:
This article describes the tests of the pressure distribution on bridge abutment generated by the backfill made of the recycled car tyres compressed in the form of bales with interfaces of medium sands and a buffer layer with tyre shreds. Backfill pressure distribution was measuring continuously over a period of three months using a pressure sensors. Static and dynamic load tests of abutment were conducted and cyclic horizontal displacements of the abutment wall, as a simulation of thermal elongation / shortening of the bridge span were also performed. The results of pressure field measurements were compared with results of numerical analysis performed using the GEO5 program basing on finite element method. Compatibility results of field measurements and numerical analysis was pretty good, and the maximum difference was about 25%. Based on field measurements and numerical analysis, a 2÷4 times reduction of pressure on bridge abutment was found, if the tyre bales had been used, compared to conventional backfilling of medium sand.

Abstract:
Women are an underappreciated economic force who, when empowered by association with a female organization, can be a catalyst for development. To assess the status of Indigenous rural women, as well as the mechanisms and impacts of their empowerment, this paper presents a case study of a community development approach based on the Masehual Siuamej Mosenyolchicacauani organization in Cuetzalan del Progreso, Puebla. The methodology used is a mixed-methods approach involving a literature review of two regional instruments: The Federal Program “Pueblos Mágicos” and the Land and Environmental Management Program “POET” for Cuetzalan. It also includes geo-data collection from public sources, empirical data collection from open-ended interviews, and focus group discussions with key informants from the Indigenous organization. The research found that, despite an inclusive legal and institutional framework, weak policy implementation and certain federal programs tend to segregate Indigenous communities. Mechanisms such as cultural tourism and inclusive land management programs, capacity building initiatives, and female associations have proven useful for empowering women and have had positive socioeconomic impacts on the community. The research concluded that female Indigenous associations are a tool to empower rural women, grant them tenure security, strengthen their engagement in decision making, and consolidate them as key stakeholders in community development.

This paper introduces program GeoH to compute height anomalies using spherical harmonic coefficients at certain degrees and orders in longwavelength components. By reasonably comparing with official values of EGM96, the reliability of results from GeoH is proved for the long-wavelength components, and then can be applied in the “remove-restore” technique for determining Vietnamese quasi-geoid in near future.

Abstract:
To understand how K-12 students in the USA are impacted by their interactions with international teachers (ie teachers visiting the USA from other countries), this study asked ‘ Does contact with an international teacher correlate with increased geo-cultural knowledge and/or receptiveness to non-USA countries, peoples and/or cultures?’. To address this question, the study drew on pre- and post-contact data from 1,082 students who had interactions with international teachers who were in the USA for a six-week educational program. Analysis of the data indicated that the students’ geo-cultural knowledge increased after having contact with an international teacher. Students were more likely to be able to identify the visiting teacher’s country as being real (as opposed to fictional), its geographic location ( vis-a-vis continent identification), and its dominant language and religion. Findings also showed that contact with international teachers correlated with increased receptiveness towards and interest in non-USA countries/peoples/culture among elementary and middle school students, but not so much among high school students. This study suggests programs supported by international teachers in schools can be effective at helping US youth gain needed intercultural competencies and, in the process, can promote global well-being.

Abstract. This technical note describes a method for the rediscretisation of "gridded" geo-scientific data. A recursive algorithm (NREGRID) is derived to solve the rediscretisation problem for orthogonal grids (including curvilinear) of arbitrary dimension. The algorithm is used within the program NCREGRID to handle geo-scientific data. These data are typically 2-dimensional (latitude-longitude grid), or 3-dimensional (latitude-longitude grid with a vertical pressure, or hybrid pressure coordinate, as used in atmospheric modelling). NCREGRID can be used as stand-alone program for the transformation ("regridding") of data from and to data files in netCDF format. Moreover, NCREGRID constitutes the core of the Modular Earth Submodel System (MESSy) data import interface, providing a powerful tool for accessing data independently of the applied grid resolution ("automatic regridding").

Abstract:
The construction of anchored retaining walls reach every day in the field of Civil Engineering especially in public works. Their dimensioning and stability are the axes of research for geotechnical. The rule is to reduce the active forces of the slide and increase the effective normal stress on the rupture surface. So that, we anchored tied-back (constituted by steel cables) in the stable ground located under the failure surface and we apply at the top a traction force. This effort can be distributed over the ground surface by means of small plates or massive reinforced concrete. The study of the stability of anchored retaining wall was also performed by using software GEO4. Many cases can be solved using analytical solutions available in the group GEO4 program, but for our standard model solution studied analytically proved unsatisfactory so we used a numerical analysis based on the method of finite element in this program. The results obtained by numerical study were interpreted to identify the precision numerical predictions. Moreover these methods were useful and economics in the realization of reinforced slopes by tied-buck.

Abstract:
Editor’s note: The Geology and Mining series, edited by Dan Wood and Jeffrey Hedenquist, is designed to introduce early-career professionals and students to a variety of topics in mineral exploration, development, and mining, in order to provide insight into the many ways in which geoscientists contribute to the mineral industry. Abstract Copper production by heap leaching, coupled with solvent extraction and electrowinning (SX-EW), is a well-established technology, with an annual output of about 3.7 million tonnes (Mt) of copper metal. Ores presently amenable to copper heap leaching include copper oxides and secondary copper sulfides. Most copper deposits amenable to acid sulfate heap leaching result from supergene processes within porphyry copper systems, although copper heap leaching has been applied to sandstone and shale-hosted deposits, among others. Copper heap leaching is a rate-dependent process sensitive to copper mineralogy (copper oxides > secondary sulfides > hypogene sulfides), driven by the pH of the leach solution, the activity of ferric iron (Fe3+ (aq)) dissolved in the leach solution, and temperature. Acid consumption, a principal operating cost item, depends on the pH of the leach solution; the presence of reactive gangue minerals, notably carbonates, Ca plagioclase, pyroxene, Fe-rich amphibole, and olivine; and the cumulative surface area of material in the heap. There are three basic approaches to commercial copper heap leaching—run-of-mine, dedicated pad, and on-off pad leaching, with variables that include crushing, acid/ferric agglomeration, solution application rate, and leach solution pH. These approaches affect copper leach kinetics, overall copper recovery, acid consumption, and capital and operating costs. A successful copper heap leach evaluation program requires a systematic approach, beginning with geologic mapping, then drilling and hydraulic and metallurgical testing, and concluding with financial analysis, engineering, and permitting. As geologists are the unique party in the process, with a thorough understanding of the overall deposit geology, including ore and gangue mineralogy, the domains that comprise the deposit, and the geochemistry of leaching, they must remain fully involved in the project throughout the evaluation. At the outset, geologists must manage the drilling program and define the grade-mineral domains. Later, they must participate in the metallurgical and hydraulic testing programs, including the evaluation of test results; then, during financial modeling, they must collaborate with all of the other specialists.

Abstract:
his study investigates the performance of the Government of Nigeria and NGOs in the empowerment of women in the country. It examines the following research questions: is there a positive relationship between government policies and its inability to enforce domestic abuse crime, sexual harassment, and male hostile domination? Are NGOs women empowerment and women liberation programs more effective than those of the government of Nigeria? To address these questions, the study uses data on NGOs that provides major capacity building projects (i.e., women education, legal rights and entrepreneurship projects) and government programs for combating discrimination against women in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria. This study uses both qualitative and quantitative research methods to examine the role of government and NGOs in the empowerment of women in Nigeria On one hand, results point toward a negative relationship between government and women empowerment policies. On the other hand, result shows a positive correlation between NGOs and women empowerment in Nigeria. Further cultural, religious, social and economic factors as well as the lack of effective implementation of gender policies continue to militate against the integration of women in the country. Our research included a survey of some 2,250 women that have benefited from NGOs empowerment program. One striking discovery is that Nigerian women have benefited more from NGOs empowerment programs than those provided by the government. Women who benefited from NGOs empowerment programs have progressed from being victims of domestic abuse unemployment to entry-level jobs and subsequently to middle management. About 15 percent of them have move from middle management to senior management. The results of this study have implications for NGOs management in the context of women projects management and governments’ political willingness to collaborate with NGOs in addressing women’s empowerment and capacity-building issues in Nigeria.

Abstract:
In the Covid-19 pandemic phase, some business processes were halted, adapted, and modified to deal with the policy of social restrictions. This impact is experienced by all levels of society, including athletes who are forced to do training from home (Training From Home). Performance evaluation of athletes who do exercises from home must be able to be evaluated remotely, including in terms of presence during the exercise training program. Presence is one of the benchmarks of a person's level of performance or activity in terms of accuracy and discipline in a program of activities. Attendance activities in the form of check-in must be ensured safe and accurate, especially if there is data connectivity with the webserver. This study aims to implement security features with JSON Web Token (JWT) based on the 256 Hash algorithm. The research also implements geo-tagging features to obtain accurate coordinates based on location points. Athlete attendance data obtained by the presence of these features are then synchronized via web service using the REST architecture. All stages of implementation are then tested by the Black Box method, and the results show that JSON Web Token (JWT) is able to secure the authentication and data security process, while the Geo-tagging feature is capable of sending accurate position data. Testing the functionality of the web service shows that all features work well within 44.8 ms, while the positioning accuracy of the geo-tagging feature reaches an accuracy of 90.9%.

Abstract:
Abstract Global microwave rainfall retrievals from a five-satellite constellation, including the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Microwave Imager, Special Sensor Microwave Imager from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program F13, F14, and F15, and the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer from the Earth Observing System Aqua, are assimilated into the NASA Goddard Earth Observing System (GEOS) Data Assimilation System using a 1D variational continuous assimilation (VCA) algorithm. The physical and dynamical impact of rainfall assimilation on GEOS analyses is examined at various temporal and spatial scales. This study demonstrates that the 1D VCA algorithm, which was originally developed and evaluated for rainfall assimilations over tropical oceans, can effectively assimilate satellite microwave rainfall retrievals and improve GEOS analyses over both the Tropics and the extratropics where the atmospheric processes are dominated by different large-scale dynamics and moist physics, and also over land, where rainfall estimates from passive microwave radiometers are believed to be less accurate. Results show that rainfall assimilation renders the GEOS analysis physically and dynamically more consistent with the observed precipitation at the monthly mean and 6-h time scales. Over regions where the model precipitation tends to misbehave in distinctly different rainy regimes, the 1D VCA algorithm, by compensating for errors in the model’s moist time tendency in a 6-h analysis window, is able to bring the rainfall analysis closer to the observed. The radiation and cloud fields also tend to be in better agreement with independent satellite observations in the rainfall–assimilation run especially over regions where rainfall analyses indicate large improvements. Assimilation experiments with and without rainfall data for a midlatitude frontal system clearly indicate that the GEOS analysis is improved through changes in the thermodynamic and dynamic fields that respond to the rainfall assimilation. The synoptic structures of temperature, moisture, winds, divergence, and vertical motion, as well as vorticity, are more realistically captured across the front.

AbstractBusinesses today face great competition in their operations, making it necessary for them to adopt a “customer-oriented” approach. In this competitive environment, where customers are more valuable, enterprises accrue great advantages from an understanding of the characteristics of the target audience in all dimensions. This is where the importance of geo-marketing and demographic segmentation for enterprises emerges. This study performed a geo-demographic segmentation of the urban neighbourhoods of Eskişehir province and sought to determine the characteristics of the people living in these neighbourhoods at the household level. The Groups created using the SPSS package program as well as Principal Components Analysis (PCA) and Hierarchical Clustering Analysis were then mapped on the GIS platform as urban neighbourhoods.
