Abstract:
This paper investigated the impacts of scientific production and insertion in stricto sensu Post-Graduation Programs in the Legal Amazon by graduates of the Amazonian Education Network in Sciences and Mathematics Post-Graduation Program (Programa de Pós-Graduação da Rede Amazônica de Educação em Ciências e Matemática - REAMEC). For such, we ascertained the curricula of twenty-nine graduates of the first class through a Lattes platform in what is constituted as a descriptive, exploratory paper from a quantitative approach. The study shows there has been a significant increase in the production, mainly of chapters of books and publications in journals with Qualis/Capes, in comparison the the period before joining the Program. By February 2017, time of information gathering from the curricula, nine graduates were already registered and working on post-graduation programs. This demonstrates that the Program is being consolidated in the Amazon region with outlook for a growth in research and an increase in the number of Science and Mathematics Teaching Masters Programs.

Abstract:
This thesis explores the evaluation of the formation process within the OSSJ through a comprehensive SWOT analysis, highlighting the program's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats across several critical dimensions: formation programs, supervision, facility maintenance, funding, and personnel. The findings reveal that the formation program is well-regarded, effectively addressing its members' spiritual and practical needs (WM = 3.9) and demonstrating a structured curriculum (WM = 4.0). However, the program struggles to adapt to contemporary religious practices (WM = 1.4) and lacks participant feedback integration (WM = 1.1). Opportunities for improvement include adopting modern pedagogical methods (WM = 3.8) and expanding content offerings (WM = 4.0). In terms of supervision, feedback is valued (WM = 3.8), and the process is transparent (WM = 4.0), yet inconsistencies in evaluation guidelines and supervisor training present challenges (WM = 1.0 and 1.2). High turnover rates potentially threaten supervisory consistency (WM = 1.7). Facility maintenance is generally satisfactory, with strong cleanliness and upkeep (WM = 3.8), although delayed repairs (WM = 2.4) and budget constraints (WM = 3.3) represent significant concerns. Funding is considered adequate (WM = 3.1), yet occasional shortfalls and inflexible planning hinder effectiveness (WM = 2.5 and 2.3). Finally, highly positive personnel evaluations emphasize qualifications and teamwork (WM = 4.0 and 3.8). Despite this, gaps in training (WM = 2.7) and potential turnover risks (WM = 3.2) necessitate strategic interventions to ensure program stability. Overall, while the OSSJ formation program showcases robust strengths and opportunities, addressing identified weaknesses and threats is essential for enhancing its effectiveness and sustainability in the future.

Abstract:
In modern conditions the problem of developing effective management measures acquires increasing relevance, as well as improving management efficiency in all sectors, especially in the field of telecommunication. One promising line of telecommunication enterprises development is the creation of the programs of development. The article is focused on providing methodical approach to formation of the programs of the telecommunication enterprise development in unstable business environment. It should be formed on the basis of the plan, tree of objectives and evaluation of development programs of a telecommunication enterprise. A program of the telecommunication enterprise development is a set of interrelated programs that is a portfolio of programs, which includes a number of related projects, programs. They are united by a common purpose. The resources for their realisation are allocated. Programs of development are formed by the relevant authorities and individuals and supported and coordinated at all levels of management. It is defined and systematized that programs of telecommunication enterprises development have a number of distinctive features that need to be taken into account when the programs are at the stage of formation. Concurrently, the article specifies that the program of a telecommunication enterprise development consists of a set of interrelated plans (technical, operational and business plans). The tree of objectives, which implies the evaluation of the program and integrated system of formation and implementation of the program of development, is recommended. It allows choosing the most effective approach to the formation of the program of development, taking into consideration both the business environment and specific features of the telecommunication field.

Abstract:
The process of designing the content of additional professional training programs for personnel of enterprises and organizations is quite laborious since it requires consideration of the customer’s requirements for the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the employee, same as legislative and regulatory acts in the workplace. In this article, the authors propose a new methodology for forming the content of additional professional training programs on a modular principle, the practical implementation of which is a program design service for the work of a methodologist and an expert on the part of the customer. The concept of the program design service is based on: a competency based approach, which allows determining the goals of education, organizing the educational process and evaluating its results, and a process approach, reflecting the interconnections and interdependencies between the design elements of additional professional training programs. The capabilities of the program design service include: providing a list of competencies from a ready-made list for selection by a methodologist; conclusion of a list of disciplines (modules) that form the specified competencies; formation of an educational and educational-thematic plan and assessment tools package for an additional professional training program. The program design service will speed up the development process and make it more convenient and “transparent” for the customer, formalize the work of the methodologist when designing an additional professional training program, ideal for remote interaction.

Abstract:
This study aimed to identify the beliefs of preservice mathematics teachers receiving formation program as undergraduates or graduates in the Faculty of Science and Letters about teacher and student roles in the classroom setting and to explore how their beliefs changed at the end of the program. The research was conducted in the qualitative research design. The data were collected with a form of three open-ended questions asked to the preservice mathematics teacher attending the formation program in the faculty of education in the fall term of 2014-2015 academic year. The data were collected by applying this questionnaire to the preservice teachers at the beginning and end of the formation program. The answers of the preservice teachers were analyzed by classifying thematically by similarity and difference using the MAXQDA 11 qualitative data analysis software. While the preservice teachers had had beliefs placed somewhere between absolute knowing and transitional knowing about both teacher and student roles before the formation program, these beliefs were transformed into ones placed somewhere between transitional knowing and independent knowing after the formation program. This result indicated how important the pedagogical formation programs are for preservice teachers.

Abstract:

Nigeria is a country blessed with human and natural resources; but, due to the miss-management of her resources, Nigeria is crippled with massive unemployment an issue that continues to exact a considerable toll on its socio-economic prospects. The population that is mostly affected with the situation is the youth, who are unable to secure decent employment and progress in life. The immediate symptoms of the socio-economic situation in the country are evident in the palpable rise in organized crime, armed insurgency, vandalism, terrorism, kidnapping and drug trafficking. Given the abundant natural and human resources that Nigeria possesses, she can attain her full potential and bring development to the citizens by overcoming the following challenges: poor utilization of oil money, bridging the widening gap between the urban rich and the rural poor, and encouraging talented Nigerians to stay in the country. To respond adequately to the challenges, the present leadership style has to change, and a new form of learning and engaging people in leadership is required. The proposed group presented in this

Abstract:
Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Engineering Systems Division, Technology and Policy Program, 2004.
Includes bibliographical references (leaves [57]-58).
This research focuses on two specific research problems in the context of innovation in the biotech industry. These research problems map to the two phases of innovation process--creation of new scientific expertise (Phase I) and commercialization of that new expertise (Phase II). The research problem in Phase I, examines determinants of productivity in the creation of new scientific expertise, specifically following scholarship in the sociology of networks, assessing the impact of patterns of scientific research networks on research productivity. The setting for the study is a group of research scientists associated with the Du Pont-MIT Alliance. Findings suggest that optimal research networks should have a large number of relatively strong links and avoid over-dependence on a few research collaborators, to enhance research productivity. With respect to Phase II and the transformation of scientific ideas into commercial products, existing innovation literature has identified several ingredients for commercial success, and in particular, for start-up ventures: reputed management teams, BODs (Board of Directors), SABs (Scientific Advisory Boards) and prominent VC (venture capital) firms. However the relative influence of the inventor's reputation versus the quality of the research idea in assembling these necessary constituents has not been researched. The study sample for the research problem under Phase II, consisted of all the biotech start-ups in the Massachusetts area, founded after 1995. The research findings highlight the usage of 'signaling' (reputation in this case) in assembling reputed teams. The study also shows diminishing returns to such signaling as the uncertainty reduces. The implications of these finding can be broadly drawn
(cont.) at the level of technology policy and at the unit level of a firm. Technology policy can influence the organization of university research networks as well as make funding allocation decisions. Individual firms can use these results to shape their collaboration with academia. The results also send a strong signal that if a research idea attains prominence, it can be successfully commercialized regardless of the inventor reputation.
by Vishwanath Kanda.
S.M.

Abstract:
Thesis: Ph. D., Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Computational and Systems Biology Program, 2016.
Cataloged from PDF version of thesis.
Includes bibliographical references (pages 107-115).
Spatiotemporally coordinated cell behavior is observed during morphogenesis, in both embryonic development as well as tissue regeneration. An open question is how individual cells collectively generate force to achieve the correct tissue architecture. This thesis examines how the apical forces generated by Drosophila ventral furrow cells undergoing collective apical constriction are coordinated to fold the tissue. In Chapter 2, I investigate how discrete actomyosin contraction events are coordinated in time and between neighboring cells to yield tissue contraction and folding. I developed a computational pipeline to identify and classify contraction events from live images of ventral furrow formation. Using this framework, I found heterogeneity in contraction events, both in terms of contraction intensity as well as apical area behavior. I found that apical constricting cells transition in contractile behavior over time, from undergoing reversible contractions into a ratcheted state where contractions are irreversible. High expression of the transcription factor Twist is required for the transition into this irreversible, ratcheted state, which is associated with more neighboring contractions as well as cooperative interactions between neighbors. In Chapter 3, I examined how contractility is buffered against heterogeneity in cell apical area. I found that Cta-signaling is required to robustly maintain apical Factin cortex that can support contracting over larger apical distances. Without this buffering, apically larger cells progressively lose apical F-actin and exhibit delayed initiation of actomyosin contractions, leading to a lack of coordinated constriction.
by Shicong Xie.
Ph. Tran, Tut, Alexandra Bonham, Justin Tweet, and Vincent Santucci. Bryce Canyon National Park: Paleontological resource inventory. National Park Service, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.36967/2302804.

Full text
Abstract:
Originally designated as a national monument in 1923, Bryce Canyon National Park (BRCA) is recognized for its exceptional pink-orange hoodoo landscapes. Its iconic hoodoos, consisting of the Paleocene?Eocene Claron Formation, are only part of the geology of BRCA, which includes a nearly uninterrupted sequence of Late Cretaceous Western Interior Seaway evolution and diverse depositional environments from approximately 100 to 77 million years ago. This sequence consists of the coastal Naturita Formation, the marine Tropic Shale, the transitional Straight Cliffs Formation, and the terrestrial Wahweap Formation. These strata, and the Claron Formation, preserve diverse paleontological resources. Fossils at BRCA have received little visibility for most of the park?s history, despite relatively rapid advances in the study of Late Cretaceous and Paleogene paleontology in neighboring public lands, especially Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument (GSENM) to the east. The best documentation of paleontological resources at BRCA was produced through concerted field inventory of the park conducted by Dr. Jeff Eaton and several cohorts of interns and students from 1988 to 2015. In that time, Eaton?s team documented nearly 200 paleontological localities within the park that yielded clams, snails, fish, frogs, turtles, lizards, snakes, crocodilians, dinosaurs, and mammals from the Straight Cliffs and Wahweap Formations and invertebrates, plants, and trace fossils in the Claron Formation. Eaton?s survey resulted in several publications, including the description of new microvertebrate species from the Straight Cliffs and Wahweap Formations. Despite this body of work, the park did not develop an internal paleontological resources management program. A new paleontological resources program at BRCA was advanced in response to construction activities that impacted several fossil localities in the Wahweap Formation. Newly hired paleontological staff conducted two seasons of field inventory (2022?2023), relocating as many of Eaton?s sites as possible and recording new fossil occurrences along the way. In this timeframe, BRCA paleontologists encountered more than 150 localities. They also conducted detailed literature review, examined the park?s paleontological collections data, and cultivated partnerships with outside researchers to better comprehend the current state and future potential of the park?s paleontological resources. This document synthesizes the total current body of knowledge on paleontological resources at BRCA to create a comprehensive paleontological inventory report. It combines historical data from the scientific literature, previous work conducted in the park, and recent fieldwork to cover BRCA?s geologic history and fossil diversity and the history of paleontological study, education, and resources management in the park.

Deitelhoff, Nicole, Rainer Forst, Vinzenz Hediger, and Tobias Wille. Trust in conflict : notes on a research program. ConTrust - Trust in Conflict. Research Centre "Normative Orders" of Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, 2025. https://doi.org/10.21248/gups.90950.

Full text
Abstract:
The ConTrust research initiative challenges the conventional wisdom that trust is antithetical to conflict. Instead, ConTrust posits that under certain social and institutional conditions, trust can also emerge in and through conflict. To lay the groundwork for this agenda, this working paper develops a basic concept of trust that is the foundation for more specific conceptions of trust. Furthermore, it distinguishes between justified and unjustified trust, introduces a notion of social integration through conflict, highlights the role of uncertainty and crisis in contemporary trust dynamics, and outlines avenues for studying trust formation in contexts of political, socio-economic, epistemic, and security conflict. Through this work, ConTrust seeks to advance our understanding of how modern pluralistic societies (and international orders) generate trust in the relative absence of shared norms and values, and to provide guidance on how conflict can be organized and shaped in ways that are productive of trust.

Olsen, Mitchell, and Willson. L52248 Investigation of Formaldehyde Chemical Kinetics. Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI), 2004. http://dx.doi.org/10.55274/r0011246.

Full text
Abstract:
The program is divided into two parts, which are (1) chemical kinetic modeling and (2) plug flow reactor tests. The chemical kinetic modeling focuses on the development of a model that can accurately predict formaldehyde formation and destruction. The most recent version of Chemkin is utilized with various kinetic mechanisms, including GRI-Mech. Numerous kinetic mechanisms are examined in order to select the most accurate one for predicting formaldehyde formation and destruction. The plug flow reactor tests consist of a series of steady state experimental investigations aimed at characterizing formaldehyde. Formaldehyde concentrations in the reactor are measured with an FTIR.
