We have developed a low-cost mechanical shutter driver with integrated arbitrary waveform generation for optical switching and control using a programmable system-on-chip device. This microcontroller-based device with configurable digital and analog blocks is readily programmed using free software, allowing for easy customization for a variety of applications. Additional digital and analog outputs with arbitrary timings can be used to control a variety of devices, such as additional shutters, acousto-optical modulators, or camera trigger pulses, for complete control and imaging of laser light.

A novel implementation of a low power adiabatic PLA with a single power clock (IAPDL-SC PLA) is presented. The isolation transistor in the AND array is removed. The power clock is shared by the AND array and the OR array. In this way, the proposed PLA not only saves the device components but also reduces the power consumption. For 3 V VDD and 200 MHz power clock frequency, the simulation results using Hspice show that the power saving is 79.48% compared to dynamic CMOS PLA, 69.34% compared to APDL PLA, and 40.40% compared to IAPDL PLA. For the 5 × 8 × 4 PLA design, the device saving is 30.77%

Design of microprogrammed controllers to be implemented in FPGAs In the article we propose a new design method for microprogrammed controllers. The traditional structure is improved by modifying internal modules and connections. Such a solution allows reducing the total number of logic elements needed for implementation in programmable structures, especially Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs). Detailed results of experiments show that on the average the application of the proposed methods yields up to 30% savings as far as the destination device is considered.
