Abstract:
Some Fortran features were not available when interoperating with C; in particular, • optional dummy arguments, • assumed-length character dummy arguments, • assumed-shape arrays, • allocatable dummy arguments, and •pointer dummy arguments. Also, the frequent need to pass C pointers for low-level operations can lead to ugly code that is difficult to understand. Fortran 2018 addresses all of these issues.
