Abstract:
We give an algorithm which goal is to find the energy barrier between a given pair of points in a graph which represents the conformational space of a molecule. If the conformational space is homeomorphic to an -dimensional torus, then the graph can be chosen of a particular form. The UTN software, which implements the algorithm in this case, is described in detail. Finally we focus on applications: to show how UTN works, some examples are carried on in detail, with the additional support of graphical animation1 in the twodimensional case. The source code of the program and some data of the examples are available to the reader.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the organization of the troika as it was constituted for the first Greek program and then renewed for the programs for Ireland in late 2010 and Portugal in spring 2011. It reviews the modalities of the troika’s negotiations with borrowing countries and several, though not all, points of disagreement among the three institutions over program design: financing, fiscal adjustment, banking sector restructuring, and structural reform. The Irish crisis resulted from excessively risky lending through the banking sector, whereas the Portuguese crisis inhered in structural rigidities with consequences for the banking sector and fiscal sustainability. The programs for these countries demonstrate that the European Central Bank played a critical role through decisions on Emergency Liquidity Assistance (ELA) and bail-in of private creditors to banks, while its policies lay outside the programs’ scope. They also demonstrate that creditor governments effectively decided the institutional arrangements for the rescues.

Abstract:
Electing to enter private practice as a clinical child psychologist poses a variety of unique challenges. Private practice clinicians (PPCs) are mental health care providers as well as small business owners and must thus cultivate success in both roles in order to remain relevant. In a saturated marketplace, PPCs must distinguish themselves. Clinically, PPCs who deliver evidence-based care and who monitor progress with clear, objective measures are able to gain a competitive marketplace edge. Membership in professional organizations provides easy connections to cutting edge research as well as a broad referral network. Diversification of revenue streams allows PPCs flexibility in practice and affords increased financial security. Establishing a marketing plan sets up PPCs for success and creates an explicit framework from which to launch business efforts. Although it stretches PPCs’ comfort zones, clinicians are compelled to become business savvy in order to thrive.

Williams, J., RA Hook, and HL Gascoigne, eds. Farming Action: Catchment Reaction. CSIRO Publishing, 1998. http://dx.doi.org/10.1071/9780643104990.

Full text
Abstract:
Dryland farming is a major export earner for many temperate-zone countries, yet it continues to degrade a country's natural resources. Effects are not restricted to the land - changes in water quality can reduce the potential uses of water and bring about catastrophic changes in both freshwater and coastal ecosystems. Farming Action: Catchment Reaction provides a comprehensive technical overview of the relationships between dryland farming systems and catchment land and water quality in Australia, and integrates it in a whole system framework. It deals with the issues in terms of people, pointers, processes and prediction as it discusses social aspects of developing and implementing research to improve dryland farming systems in catchment management programs, indicators of catchment health, and the processes which determine the impact of the farming action on the catchment response. It concludes by considering the adequacy of our ability to use this process knowledge in models to predict the effect of dryland farming on catchment condition.

Boulton, Jill E., Kevin Coughlin, Debra O'Flaherty, and Alfonso Solimano, eds. ACoRN: Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns. 2nd ed. Oxford University Press, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/med/9780197525227.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
The Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns (ACoRN) program trains health care providers to stabilize that most challenging and enigmatic of medical patients: the unwell newborn. Early assessment, intervention, and management of at-risk or unstable infants can be critical for their survival and long-term health. Clinical care standards and educational programs to address these requirements are needed. The ACoRN program provides a unique, prioritized, and systematic approach to newborn stabilization for health care professionals with any degree of experience. ACoRN-trained providers learn to gather information, prioritize, intervene appropriately, and deliver high quality care to at-risk and unwell newborns in any setting. Because research and practice have advanced dramatically in recent years, the need for a new ACoRN text, the program’s centrepiece, became essential—hence the development of this new edition, which reflects current guidelines and evidence-based best practices. ACoRN teaches the concepts and skills required to stabilize unwell newborns through system-based algorithms (Sequences), each with its own chapter: respiratory, cardiovascular, neurology, surgical conditions, fluid and glucose, jaundice, thermoregulation, and infection. The ACoRN mnemonic defines stabilization steps and chapter structure: alerting signs, core steps, organization of care, response, next steps, and specific diagnosis and management. Each chapter includes educational objectives, key concepts, learning points, and at least one case scenario with questions and answers to reinforce content and learnings. This book is written for any health professional who may be required to participate in the stabilization of sick or preterm babies within their scope of practice.
