Abstract:
ABSTRACT: Learning Japanese at State Polytechnics of Bali and Hasanuddin University has similarities to one of the subjects studied by students, called the Japanese Language for Tourism. It takes students’ critical thinking and attracts students’ interest in this learning. For this lesson, the use of Project-Based Learning is a suitable learning model for students to hone and develop their creativity in introducing Indonesian tourism using Japanese. The aim of this research was to increase the critical thinking and creativity of the students by using the Project-Based Learning method in Japanese for tourism lessons. The design of this research was an analysis study. In this research, the writer wanted to find the use of the Project Based Learning method in Japanese language classes. In this research, the writer used a qualitative method. The inductive process of data analysis started by gathering information through observations, interviews, documentation, and triangulations. The result showed that there are several projects like videos and brochures produced by students in Japanese language classes using the PBL Method as developed by The George Lucas Educational Foundation, such as: (1) Start with the Essential Question; (2) Design a Plan for the Project; (3) Create a Schedule; (4) Monitor the Students and the Progress of the Project; (5) Assess the Outcome; (6) Evaluate the Experience.

Abstract:
One of the problems that concerns engineering courses in Brazil is the students low level of motivation in regarding the type of teaching and, as a consequence, low academic performance. This article encourages the introduction of active methods in Engineering teaching, emphasizing the methodologies of Project Based Learning. The approach used was proposing a project for students to analyze important aspects in the production of cylindrical cans. The students applied calculus concepts and developed a model for the optimal dimensions of the cylinder and the utilization of the plates used. Characteristics of two materials used in the manufacture of these cans (tinplate and aluminum) were also gotten. Such aspects are relevant for both environmental sustainability and production costs. Concepts of application of derivatives and Fermat's theorem were used, learned in the discipline of Differential and Integral Calculus, in order to obtain the maximum and minimum values of an established function which relates the dimensions of the can and the amount of material needed. The dimensions obtained theoretically proved to be close to the real values found in cans available on the market. After analyzing the resistance to corrosion, the cost, the decomposition time and the mechanical resistance, it was concluded that the most appropriate material for the production of cans was the tinplate. In this context, teaching with Project Based Learning methodologies may contribute to innovative teaching practices in the training of engineering professionals, overcoming the limitations of traditional teaching methods.

Abstract:
In the degree in Pedagogy in Experimental Sciences at ULEAM Chone extension, the effectiveness of the project-based learning methodology has not been evaluated, so it is necessary to determine its uses and advantages at the university level. The objective of the study is to analyze project-based learning among students of the Pedagogy in Experimental Sciences career. It is developed through a mixed approach that integrates qualitative and quantitative data, the inductive method is used, and the study population is made up of students of the degree. The survey technique is used. The results demonstrate that PBL contributes to the development of research and problem-solving skills, collaboration and teamwork, the application of theoretical knowledge to practical situations, and the motivation and commitment of students, with a positive experience in its use.

Abstract:
Learning through projects can raise interest and motivation, and support the construction of competencies, disciplinary, and interdisciplinary knowledge via working on real-life problems in realistic settings. One form of project-based learning is outdoor education, that is, situating learning and instruction in settings outside the regular classroom. We present a course for students in the teacher education program at ETH Zurich that implements project-based education on two layers: the course itself is project-based, and the pre-service teachers create project-based outdoor teaching units during the course. We describe how we balance freedom and guidance, and scaffolding in the course design. In addition, we report how students respond to and evaluate our course, and discuss challenges and opportunities for lecturers. By presenting sample projects and insights from the implementation and continuous development of the project-based course, we aim to inspire and guide lecturers at ETH Zurich and other universities who consider implementing project-based courses in their teaching.

Abstract:
Project-based learning (PBL) is centred on a challenging, yet meaningful, driving question and culminates in a product that students create or do to showcase their learning to a public audience. Other essential elements of a true PBL experience include: sustained inquiry, authentic tasks, opportunities for students to make decisions about their culminating product, reflection, critique, and revision (Hallermann, Larmer, & Mergendoller, 2011). A well-designed PBL combines curriculum and instructional activities to cultivate 21st century skills in students to prepare them for future success in the workforce. Two teams of Year five teachers designed a week-long PBL unit for students organised around the characteristics of the planets, which integrated science, mathematics, and English. The teachers implemented the PBL with six classes of Year five students, documenting their thoughts on planning and implementation to reflect upon the experience.

Abstract:
Project-based learning (PBL) is a teaching approach where students engage in the investigation of real-world problems through their inquiries. Studies found considerable support for PBL on student performance and improvement in grades K-12 and at the collegiate level. However, fewer studies have examined the effects of PBL at the collegiate level in comparison to K-12 education. No studies have examined the effects of PBL with preservice teachers taking educational psychology courses. The purpose of this study was to provide an analysis of PBL with preservice teachers taking educational psychology courses. An experiment was conducted throughout two semesters to evaluate student achievement and satisfaction in an undergraduate educational psychology child development course and in an undergraduate educational psychology assessments course, which included the same students from the first semester. Student achievement was determined using quantitative and qualitative analyses in each semester and longitudinally. Results in semester one indicated that the comparison group outperformed the PBL group. Results in semester two suggested there were no differences in instructional styles between groups. Longitudinal analyses showed that the comparison group declined in performance over time, whereas the PBL group improved over time; although, the comparison group still outperformed the PBL group. Results of this study indicate that PBL was not an influential teaching method for preservice teachers taking educational psychology courses.

Abstract:
Outcome-based education requires statistics education in the 21st century to be structured holistically by allowing the students to work with real life data along with visualization, computation, and learning outputs. The new K-12 curriculum resulted to a chain reaction in the Statistics undergraduate program by including alternative statistical frameworks such as Bayesian statistics. This paper focuses on project-based learning approach on designing learning outputs for undergraduate and graduate students in Bayesian statistics. The stages of project-based learning in completing these Bayesian learning outputs have helped in building the capacities of the students to understand the essential concepts in Bayesian inference and do computations using software. Some of the learning outputs are cited. Insights are helpful in making the syllabus of Bayesian Statistics and Inference of undergraduate Statistics program. Project based learning incapacitates the students to do Statistics research in an organized manner and make decisions based on data.

Abstract:
In this article the authors explore project-based learning (PBL) as an avenue for meeting the needs of English learners against the backdrop of both the 2010 California Common Core State Standards and the 2012 English Language Development Standards. They begin with a definition and brief history of PBL. The authors then propose and expanded version of PBL that considers the unique linguistic needs of ELs and conclude with two promising examples from two California school districts.

Abstract:
This project focuses on improving literacy development for young learners who are struggling with learning to read English by investigating the process of learning grapheme-phoneme correspondences (GPCs). Learning GPC is foundational to learning to read alphabetic languages, and is a core problem for struggling readers. In this project, two methods are used in two studies to understand the process of learning English GPCs as the crux of acquiring literacy. First, a machine learning neural network modelling approach is used to study the effect of sound-symbol grain size and consistency and training input on learning progression and outcomes. Second, a behavioural randomized controlled study is conducted to examine the effects of interventions with LSP students focused at different grain sizes. Between these two studies, information about the types of input that may yield most effective learning is corroborated.
