He was not particularly accomplished as a scientist, or natural philosopher to use the contemporary term, but he did engage earnestly with the project of establishing new experimentalist directions for the investigation of nature, both in the Royal Society after its establishment in the early 1660s, and in other milie

However, within these challenges lie opportunities to reduce costs, minimize emissions, and improve overall project economics. Recognizing the significance of energ

In this paper, we present the application of machine learning, specifically the Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithm, for diabetes prediction using the Pima Indians Diabetes dataset. Diabetes is a serious global health issue, and timely diagnosis can significantly improve treatment outcomes. The PIMA dataset contains 768 instances with 8 medical attributes, including glucose concentration, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, and family history of diabetes. The process involves data preprocessing, which includes cleaning, standardization, and splitting the data into training and testing se

The inclusion of students with additional learning needs in schooling is part of policy and practice in Australia. However, it has been well documented that teachers lack the resources and training to meaningfully include students with additional learning needs in the full range of learning in their classrooms. The SWANs program of work aimed to fill this gap through the development of assessments based on learning progressions that provide teachers with targeted information to support the teaching and learning of all students including students with additional learning needs. When investing in small and mid-size hotel projects, the IDB, as a general rule, requires that the Sponsor develop and implement an environmental and social management system (ESHSMS). The ESHSMS is typically developed after completion of the Environmental Assessment Process which, depending on the project, would include development of either an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) or an Environmental and Social Analysis (ESA). An ESHSMS is a framework developed to identify and manage environmental and social aspects of each principal phase of project development (i.e., siting and design, con

The CEDCA Overview of Impact Pathways (Figure 1) presents a visual summary of key impact pathways from across the 12 projects of the Clean Energy for Development: A Call to Action (CEDCA) initiative, funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC). It is the result of an analysis of initial documentation from each of the projects within the initiative to identify areas of coherence across their proposed activities, and desired outcomes and impacts. It does not seek to provide an exhaustive account of every aspect of all the CEDCA projects, but to identify the different types of

The International Network on Data for Impact and Government Outcomes -INDIGO- is a data and learning collaborative where different organisations share their data on voluntary basis with the aim of creating a series of open data assets and advancing our understanding of outcomes-based contracting. The Impact Bond Dataset and the Pipeline dataset are examples of this collaborative approach. Every six months, we take stock of the new data on projects or upcoming projects and offer a snapshot of the landscape of impact bonds across the world2. To accelerate transformations towards just and sustainable future cities across Europe, local and regional projects need to scale up and share sustainability pathways and planning efforts. In this context, Living Labs, and innovation and experimentation spaces in general, have demonstrated great potential in serving as platforms for connecting universities with societal stakeholder, facilitating transdisciplinary collaboration in the innovation process but also as tools for cross-case learning and upscaling innovative solutions. The Smart Energy Design Assistance Center assessed the administrative, technical, and economic aspects of feasibility related to the procurement and installation of photovoltaic solar systems on IDOT-owned buildings and lands. To address administrative feasibility, we explored three main ways in which IDOT could procure solar projects: power purchase agreement (PPA), direct purchase, and land lease development. Of the three methods, PPA and direct purchase are most applicable for IDOT. While solar development is not free of obstacles for IDOT, it is administratively feasible, and regulatory hu

Abstract:
The levelized costs of electricity from renewables have decreased by up to 90% in the past decade. During the same period, the cost of nuclear power has increased by more than a third. This led to a domination of renewables in new investments worldwide. Even when factoring in integration costs of renewables and new nuclear technologies, building new nuclear power remains multiple times more expensive than new solar or wind projects. Given the financial, project, and technological risks, the role of nuclear in the energy transition should be questioned.
