In the current article, we examine the long-run school selection patterns of children randomly assigned to the Chicago School Readiness Project, an early childhood educational (ECE) intervention that aimed to improve the quality of Head Start classrooms serving low-income communities. Analyses suggest that adolescents who participated in the program were more likely to opt out of their assigned neighborhood school and attend schools with better indicators of academic performance. Further analyses suggested that these selection patterns began in elementary school, although elementary school qua

During the winter of 1986—87, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) conducted an emission measurement program in Boise, ID, as part of the Integrated Air Cancer Project (IACP). This program was designed to identify the potential mutagenic impact of residential wood burning on ambient and indoor air. One facet of this field sampling effort involved obtaining emission samples from chimneys serving wood burning appliances in Boise. As a companion to the field source sampling, a parallel project was undertaken in an instrumented woodstove test laboratory to quantify woodstove emissions du

Flow assurance in subsea oil and gas fields often presents significant challenges. Every field has its own combination of difficulties, and no universal process or system can be used to mitigate these. Detailed knowledge across a broad range of competencies, therefore, is required to find solutions that can minimize the risk of not getting the hydrocarbons safely to the process facilities. Many subsea fields that are being developed today are long tiebacks, taking advantage of existing offshore infrastructure or producing directly to shore. These developments must deal with the long-distance t

Issue or Challenge Addressed and Why
Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 (DMT2) continues to be the 7th leading cause of death in the United States affecting an estimated 30.3 million people. It is well recognized that socioeconomic stressors can worsen effects of disease states and increase poor health outcomes among more socially disadvantaged patients with DMT2. Research also shows a connection between high stress levels, high amounts of cortisol, and decreased insulin sensitivity with higher blood sugar/HA1C levels.

Introduction In new and expanding fields like electronics, nucleonic, astronautics, avionics, and cryogenics, a new type of manager is being bred. Although he goes by many titles, the one most generally used is the project manager. His role in the modern industry deserves more scrutiny than it has received from students of management and professional managers. Generally speaking, the project manager's business is to create a product — a piece of advanced technology hardware. The primary tool available to him is the brainpower of men who are professional specialists in diverse fields.

A long-term UK research programme has been established in order to improve the understanding of thermo-mechanical behaviour and residual stresses generated in pressure vessel steel welds as well as developing finite element (FE) welding simulation methods. The production of representative test specimens is an important element of this research project, since quality measurement data are needed to validate FE models. This paper describes the design, development and manufacture of welded plate specimens used for residual stress (RS) experiments. To date, research has focused mainly on developing
