Abstract:
Improved logistical performance is one of the tools to mitigate greenhouse gases emissions from freight transport. The production company and transportation company should find the practice to decrease the emissions from their activity in distributions of goods. In this thesis, the sustainable logistics in practice in focal company (Ekornes) is studied. The potential improvement in relation to sustainable transportation principle is explained. Through qualitative method research, the theory related to the sustainable logistic and the findings on logistic practice in Ekornes is discussed. It is found that Ekornes is lack of environmental factors in the contract with third party logistic (3PL) providers. Ekornes indicates the positive response to the pressure to implement the environmental concept on their operational strategy.Key Words: sustainable freight transport, qualititative method research, environmental concept on operational strategy.

Abstract:
The objective of this study is to investigate how lean six sigma can be used in a process improvement project, and how to apply lean six sigma in a real-life situation. The task is to decrease the amount of late deliveries to a factory from a nearby logistics facility, where production materials are stored in. The study will be performed as a case study. The case study begins with a literature review, where scientific publications of the subject are studied. After this, a real-life process improvement project will be carried out in a company. During the project, the learnings from the literature and the tools and methods of lean six sigma will be applied. There will also be examples given on the application of lean six sigma. As a result of this study, suggestions for improvement were made. Implementing these suggestions would help to reduce the amount of late deliveries. Due to the limited time of the project, these suggestions could not be completely carried out to be used practically during the case study. Therefore, it was not possible to report the actual benefits of these improvements. However, a pessimistic annual assessment of the potential benefit was 485,000 euros. The results of this study can be used very well because the tools used in the project can be applied to any field of business. The potential benefit for the process under investigation is not entirely generalizable. However, many companies face the same kind of problems in their processes, for which, this study can be of help to
Työn tavoitteena on tutkia, miten lean six sigmaa voidaan hyödyntää logistiikkaprosessin kehittämisessä ja miten sen käytännöntoteutus on mahdollista. Tarkoituksena on vähentää myöhästyneiden materiaalitoimitusten määrää tehtaan ja läheisen materiaalivaraston välillä. Työ suoritetaan tapaustutkimuksena, jossa ensin tehdään kirjallisuuskatsaus aiheesta tutkimalla alan tieteellisiä tutkimuksia ja julkaisuja. Tämän jälkeen suoritetaan käytännön prosessinkehitysprojekti yrityksessä. Projektin aikana sovelletaan kirjallisuudesta opittua tietoa ja käytetään lean six sigman työkaluja, joista annetaan myös esimerkkejä. Työn tuloksena saatiin kehitysehdotuksia, jotka tekemällä myöhästyneiden toimitusten määrää saataisiin vähennettyä. Projektin rajallisen aikataulun takia näitä ehdotuksia ei ehditty viedä kokonaisuudessaan käytäntöön asti, joten ei ollut mahdollista raportoida todellisia taloudellisia säästöjä. Vuosittainen pessimistinen arvio kehityspotentiaalista oli noin 485 000 euroa. Tutkimuksen tulokset ovat hyvin hyödynnettävissä, sillä projektissa käytettyjä työkaluja voidaan hyödyntää monenlaisissa kehitysprojekteissa toimialasta riippumatta. Kehityspotentiaali ei ole suoraan yleistettävissä muihin logistiikkaprosesseihin, mutta samankaltaisia ongelmia ilmenee monien yritysten prosesseissa, joten tämä tutkimus voi olla hyödyksi myös niiden ratkaisemiseen

Abstract:
Byggbranschen är en viktig näringsgren med stor direkt och indirekt påverkan på tillväxten och problem inom byggsektorn riskerar därför att fortplanta sig som negativa effekter på samhällsekonomin. Sedan länge brottas byggsektorn med en mycket svag produktivitetsutveckling. En direkt delorsak till detta är att en stor andel av arbetstiden på en byggarbetsplats läggs på annat än direkt värdeskapande arbete, såsom att vänta på eller att leta efter material. Detta beror i sin tur delvis på att leveransprecisionen är låg och logistiken är eftersatt inom byggbranschen. Därmed ligger det inom räckhåll att förbättra produktiviteten med bättre rutiner kring materialförsörjning och logistik. Denna studie har fokuserat på hur resursutnyttjandet i byggbranschen skulle kunna öka med hjälp av strukturerade arbetssätt inom bygglogistik och anlitande av tredjepartslogistiker. Specifikt har studien analyserat det logistikupplägg med en tredjepartslogistiker som använts vid den omfattande ombyggnation av Universitetssjukhuset i Linköping (US), som benämns Framtidens US (FUS). FUS omfattar ny- och ombyggnation i direkt anslutning till pågående sjukvårdsverksamhet och akuta vårdflöden får inte hindras. För att störa vården minimalt anlitades tredjepartslogistikern Bygglogistik för att samordna alla materialtransporter. Den föreliggande studien samlar upp de lärdomar som drogs av logistikupplägget under projektets första etapp (FUS1), analyserar hur dessa lärdomar omsattes under planeringen inför den andra etappen (FUS2) samt studerar följsamhet till de uppsatta logistikriktlinjerna och attityder till upplägget i såväl FUS1 som FUS2. Resultaten visar att logistikupplägget bidragit med stora värden i och med att inga akuta ambulanstransporter hindrats, mer tid har kunnat läggas på direkt byggande och projekten har fått bättre ekonomi. Men resultaten visar också att implementeringen inte varit smärtfri och att somliga fortfarande är skeptiska till värdet av upplägget. Dessutom finns en diskrepans mellan den operativa logistiktjänst byggherren upplever sig ha fått levererad och den mer utvecklande kunskapstjänst som byggherren trodde sig ha upphandlat.

Abstract:
This study concerns logistics at the construction projects. Most construction projects suffer from unnecessary activities on site which indicates the need for improving construction logistics. Hence the purpose of this paper was to investigate, through site observations and interviews, the current logistics situation on the construction site and to suggest possible solution for improving construction logistics. The main focus of this study was on material deliveries and time that craftsmen spend on handling materials. The thesis concludes that skilled craftsmen are transporting the third part of all incoming interior materials by their selves. Due to poor logistics planning workers are also doing lots of rework and extra work. The study showed that, by implementing other logistics solutions, it is possible to reduce the production costs by 65 SEK/m2 of living area and also to shorten the production time by 3.3%.    The study actualizes the importance of construction logistics which is often underestimated. The study also showed what consequences ineffective logistics solution could have on the construction project. While, on the opposite, proper logistics planning gives benefits to the project.

The methodological part of graduation thesis is focused on theoretical knowledge processing relating to issues of logistics center, investment decisions, financila analyses and method of funding of investments. In the practival part are processed requirements of logistics center, invesmtent and overhead costs for option of development distribution warehouse in Czech republic and for option development in Germany. Total costs for both possibility are funding of financial bank loans. At the conclusion are both of these evaluated by cash flow and net present value.

This research provides insights into project deliveries in the Barents Region. The aim of this research is to describe the project delivery process and to examine the barriers and the opportunities of transport logistics that are involved in project logistics in the Barents Region. The research is conducted with qualitative research methods and it features two case examples of project deliveries. The literature review provides academic findings from transport logistics and project logistics sources. Theoretical framework is constructed of the project delivery process that encompasses a focus on barriers and opportunities of transport logistics. The data collection includes 8 interviews and observation. The project delivery process consists of several phases: manufacturing, project cargo, transport mode choice, loading/stowing, transportation and final destination. This research provides also essential information of barriers and opportunities that are involved in project deliveries in the Barents Region. The project delivery process includes barriers that are: infrastructure, border crossing issues, distance, regulation and challenges with all-year traffic. According to the research findings, the best opportunities for project deliveries are road- and maritime transport. This research reveals that there are also difficulties in cross-border logistics between the Nordic countries, unlike the earlier academic findings suggest. Clearly, this research provides both theoretical contribution and managerial implications. Earlier research of project deliveries is almost completely lacking, which means that new academic research is needed. Thus this research presents valuable and new theoretical contribution by describing and picturing the project delivery process in detailed fashion. The managerial implications are related to the findings of potential barriers and the best transport mode opportunities in project deliveries in the Barents Region. By clarifying the potential challenges of project deliveries, this research gives valuable information of what kinds of problems there might be, and most importantly this research gives instructions that are valuable for tackling those challenges. All in all, this research provides valuable findings of project logistics and cross-border logistics in the Barents Region.

Abstract:
The Naval Construction Force (NCF) performs construction projects in all areas of the world during both peacetime and war. While some of these projects occur in populated areas where project materials are readily available, many of these projects occur in remote areas or war zones, where project materials must be procured from the United States or elsewhere and shipped to the unit performing the construction. The construction scopes also vary from projects as small as concrete sidewalks to projects as large as full utility system installations, or complete facility and base construction. As a result of the diverse locations and project types that the Naval Construction Force experiences, the logistics of providing project material and construction equipment to multiple global locations is a major challenge. The Naval Construction Force still experiences delays and inefficiencies in supplying construction materials to its various projects and units deployed throughout the world, which in turn reduces the overall productivity of the deployed Construction Battalions. This research explores the current supply chain that the NCF has in place for obtaining construction project materials. It also explores the latest initiatives in information technology and construction supply chain management that are being applied in the commercial sector. The two systems are compared to determine what private practices and technologies can be applied to the Navy system to make it more efficient. Since the Navy is restricted by Federal Acquisition Regulations, and has unique funding streams authorized by Congress, it will not have the ability to fully operate as a private construction company, and these restrictions are addressed. The issue of outsourcing and privatization is also studied, and the feasibility of outsourcing the entire construction material process is considered.

Abstract:
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate to what extent the environmental agenda should be taken into consideration during the project phase of logistics at Northvolt. The objective is to build an optimization model for route planning with a trade-off solution for three criteria; cost, emission and time. An abductive research approach is used. The empirical data was collected quantitatively in accordance with cross-industry standard process for data mining. The results obtained from the optimization model were based on an emission calculation framework and weights assigned to the three selected criteria by five decision makers. These results are compared to an as-is analysis of current and of historical transportations as well as to expected future transportations. These results provide insights and emphasize the importance of agility in decision making aiming at the reduction of emissions. The analysis shows that increased costs do not have a clear correlation with reduced emissions or transportation time. It also demonstrates that transporting goods on sea would increase the transportation time but decrease the emissions. The conclusions of the study are that costs can be reduced by 8%, emissions by 6% and transportation time by 14%, compared to their current operations. Short-term recommendations address the need of being agile in the route planning and analyse each shipment individually where the weights of the criteria should be alternated depending on the status of the project. This requires increased communication with the installation team on site and negotiation of contractual rates from additional ports in Sweden. Long-term recommendations emphasise the importance of developing and using emission key performance indicators to set targets in combination with a strategy in order to steer daily operations.

The manufacturing industry has made an extensive journey through the last century when it comes to increasing productivity. Results in the construction industry end up far behind manufacturing and do not show anywhere near the same efficiency increase, improved quality or decreased costs. There are a lot of potential savings in the form of activities that consumes resources without creating value for the end customer, also called waste. Waste in combination with uncertainty and variability in task duration forces the project duration to be longer than necessary. The purpose of this study is to investigate the opportunity to shorten the lead time of a construction project and investigate how construction companies can work continuously towards shorter project lead times. The purpose has been fulfilled through a time study performed at four projects managed by one of the leading construction developers of residential buildings in Scandinavia. Waste and variability were mapped in the interior phase. The measured time for each activity was categorized either as; value adding time (VT), necessary but non-value adding time (NNVT) and non-value adding time (NVT). The results showed that mounting consists of 48 % VT, 28 % NNVT and 24 % NVT, while material handling consists of 0 % VT, 75 % NNVT and 25 % NVT. The results further showed large variability in task duration between the projects. Theory from lean, logistics and scheduling were combined to form three different scenarios for shortening project lead times. The first scenario describes how to work with removing waste from the process. The second scenario describes how to reduce variability and thus be able to reduce buffers in the time plan. The last scenario describes how support processes, for example material handling, can be removed from the critical path, in order to reduce project lead times. A proposal for a general approach for continuously working with decreasing project lead times is also presented. Central aspects for shortening project lead times were concluded to be the takt time, variability and risk. The proposed approach involves a combination of the three scenarios, where their impact on each other is considered.
Tillverkningsindustrin har gjort en omfattande resa under det senaste århundradet när det gäller att öka produktiviteten, medan byggbranschen inte visar i närheten av samma ökning i effektivitet, förbättrad kvalitet eller minskade kostnader. Det finns många potentiella besparingar i form av aktiviteter som förbrukar resurser men som inte skapar något värde för kunden, även kallat slöserier. Slöserier i kombination med osäkerhet och variabilitet i arbetsmomentens varaktighet tvingar projektens ledtider att vara längre än nödvändigt. Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka möjligheten att förkorta byggprojekts ledtider och undersöka hur byggföretag kontinuerligt kan arbeta mot kortare ledtider. Syftet har uppfyllts med hjälp av en tidsstudie utförd på fyra projekt vid en av de ledande projektutvecklarna av bostadshus i Skandinavien. Slöserier och variabilitet i inredningsskedet har kartlagts. Den uppmätta tiden för varje aktivitet är kategoriserad efter; värdeskapande tid (VT), nödvändig men icke-värdeskapande tid (NIVT) och icke-värdeskapande tid (IVT). Resultaten visar att montering består av 48 % VT, 28 % NIVT och 24 % IVT, medan material hantering består av 0 % VT, 75 % NIVT och 25 % IVT. Vidare visar resultaten på stor variabilitet i varaktigheten av aktiviteter mellan projekten. Teori från lean, logistik och schemaläggning kombinerades för att bilda tre olika scenarier som kan användas för att förkorta projektens ledtider. Det första scenariot beskriver hur man kan arbeta med att eliminera slöserier från processen. Det andra beskriver hur man kan minska variabiliteten och därmed kunna minska buffertarna i tidplanen. Det sista scenariot beskriver hur stödprocesser, som t.ex. materialhantering, kan brytas ut från den kritiska linjen, i syfte att minska projektets ledtid. Ettförslag till ett generellt sätt att kontinuerligt arbeta med att minska projektens ledtider är ocksåframtaget och innehåller en kombination av de tre scenarierna. Det framkommer att centrala aspekterför att förkorta projektens ledtider är takttid, variabilitet och risk. Det föreslagna arbetssättetinnefattar en kombination av de tre scenarierna, där hänsyn tagits till deras inverkan på varandra.

The Master Thesis of "Barriers for successful implementation and running of Customer Relationship Management (CRM) in logistic companies" deals with the current situation of CRM in logistic companies. The main goal of this Thesis is to analyze the sample of several logistic companies by different type which decided to implement any kind of CRM and to find out which barriers and problems constrained from the successful implementation or are blocking the successful running of CRM. The partial goal is to analyze the economic situation and the logistic market in the Czech Republic. The last goal is to provide any recommendations how to follow the right approaches of implementation and which critical areas to focus during the implementation on. These suggestions are based on the result of the evaluated replies with filled questioners. The analytical part bears on the theoretical definition of Customer Relationship Management and of Project Management (based on PMBOK). The main benefit is seen for the companies which haven't decided yet to implement CRM because of unclear barriers and effects. Inspiration can find also the organizations which do any business outside the logistic market.

The storage and distribution of goods in warehouses have been around for centuries. Information systems and technology have enabled business to run various different functions, like accounting, successfully. Companies soon realised the additional benefits technology can bring to their operations. Increase in product throughput and increase in product range are some of the examples that add additional complexity to the warehousing and distribution functions. In order to cater for the additional complexity, to gain improved customer service levels and gain a strategic advantage in delivering the right product, in the right place at the right time, companies are implementing warehouse management systems (WMS). However, the WMS implementations are complex and involve various different stakeholders. Failed WMS implementations can negatively affect the operations. There are many risks associated with the WMS implementations and many companies have had to issue profit warnings in the past due to failed implementations. Various viewpoints on project success exist but this research report has aimed to provide a framework of key success criteria which organisations can use to evaluate the success of their implementation. Since WMS are generally rolled-out across various sites within a specific supply chain, measuring and evaluating the success of the first project can guide the project team to achieve more project success in the future, eliminating the risks associated with failed implementations. This study clearly defines the difference between project success, project management success, critical success factors and key success criteria. Literature on the topic is limited and therefore this study looked at various sources like peer-reviewed literature, popular literature and case studies. The findings of the report indicate that there is a list of ten different key success criteria which organisations can focus on in order to measure and improve their project success. Taking ownership, change management, managing stakeholder expectations, communication, training and testing are some of the key success criteria that were identified. This study concludes by presenting a framework which organisations can use to measure the success of their WMS implementation.

Este trabalho aborda o desenvolvimento e a implantação de um projeto de armazenagem de componentes direto numa indústria de linha branca, na cidade de Rio Claro, interior do estado de São Paulo, o qual migrou de um modelo de armazenagem vertical, em porta-paletes, para um modelo horizontal sem o uso deste equipamento, denominado como Flat Storage. A preocupação desta pesquisa foi de apresentar ao público acadêmico interessado e aos profissionais da área de logística, o cenário anterior ao projeto e os motivos que levaram ao desenvolvimento desse conceito de armazenagem, o COMO foi realizada a implantação, o cenário posterior, juntamente com os benefícios encontrados, fazendo-se uma comparação com o cenário anterior. Por fim, faz-se uma convergência do modo como o projeto foi desenvolvido e implantado com as recomendações encontradas no PMBOK, principalmente no que diz respeito aos aspectos das Áreas de Conhecimento de Gestão de Projeto, com o intuito de mostrar como este trabalho deveria ter sido desenvolvido. Primeiramente, concluiu-se que os responsáveis pelo projeto não seguiram qualquer \"metodologia\" de gestão de projetos, pois as dificuldades encontradas evidenciaram tal descuido. Concluiu-se, também, que o modelo de armazenagem implantado, apesar de ser totalmente diferente daqueles encontrados em livros e na prática, foi muito bem aceito sob vários aspectos no cenário estudado.
This paper approaches the development and the implantation of a storage project of components (parts) in an industry named \"white line\" in Rio Claro city, located in São Paulo State, Brazil, which migrated from a vertical storage model, to a horizontal model, without any equipment, being called as Flat Storage. The concern of this research is presenting to the public in general, specially academics and logistics professionals, the previous scenario to the project and the reasons that had led it to the development of this storage concept, HOW the implantation was carried through, the previous scenario aligned with the benefits met, by making a comparison with the previous scene. Finally, a convergence is made of the way the project was developed and implanted in accordance with the recommendations found in the PMBOK guide, mainly under the aspects which are based on the areas of Knowledge of Project Management, bearing in mind to show how this project must have been developed. The first conclusion was that the responsible person for the project had difficulties due to the fact that the Project Management \"methodology\" was not followed. Therefore, the difficulties encountered pointed to incautious evidences. We also concluded that the storage model implanted, although very much alike the trends found in books and in practical in use, was very well accepted under some aspects in the studied scene.

Abstract Purpose – The purpose of this study is to increase the knowledge about how Earned Value Management can be used and be implemented for project management in the construction industry. In order to achieve the study’s purpose, two research questions has been formulated: [1] How can Earned Value Management be used for management of construction projects? [2] What is required to implement Earned Value Management in the construction industry? Method – The questions were answered with the help a case study where qualitative data was collected through interviews and a document study. 42 of the case company’s internal documents were studied in parallel with five interviews. The theoretical framework of the study was formulated through a literature study where relevant theories were studied. The study has adopted an inductive approach since a construction company is studied to create an explanatory model for how earned value management can be used and implemented in the construction industry. Empirical data were analyzed in relation to the study’s theoretical framework to answer the study’s purpose and research questions. Findings – Earned value management can to some extent be adapted to the complexity of the project. However, there are steps in the method which must always be carried out thoroughly for the control tool to be useful in the construction industry. The results of the study show that earned value management can be used for project management in two dimensions, partly as a problem-solving function and partly as a prognostic function. For earned value management to be used and implemented in the construction industry, a detailed design is required where the organization must allocate sufficient resources. The study also shows that the main implementation requirement for earned value management in the construction industry is education as the industry lacks knowledge of the control tool and its benefits. Implications – In essence, the study supports several existing theories. The study'sunique contribution is a knowledge that some adaptation of earned value management is possible with some regulation. The results of the study can be a support for companies in the construction industry in project management because it shows the impact of the steps on the next step and how it then affects the forecast calculations in the final step. It also shows effective ways of dealing with common problems in the industry. Limitations – There is a certain limitation regarding the generalizability of the result as the study only covers one case. The study is completed over a limited period, which is significantly shorter than the completion time for the study case. The result could have been more reliable if the study had been expanded with a completed project
Sammanfattning Syfte – Studien syftar till att öka kunskapen om hur earned value management kananvändas och implementeras för projektstyrning i byggbranschen. För att besvara syftet har två frågeställningar formulerats: [1] Hur kan earned value management användas för styrning av byggprojekt? [2] Vad krävs för att implementera earned value management i byggbranschen? Metod – Frågeställningarna har besvarats med hjälp av en fallstudie där kvalitativa data samlades in genom intervjuer och en dokumentstudie. 42 av fallföretagets interna dokument studerades parallellt med att fem intervjuer genomfördes. Studiens teoretiska ramverk formulerades genom en litteraturstudie där relevanta teorier studerades. Studien har antagit en induktiv ansats då ett byggföretag studeras för att skapa en förklaringsmodell till hur earned value management kan användas och implementeras i byggbranschen. Implikationer – I huvudsak stödjer studien flera befintliga teorier. Studiens unika bidrag är en kunskap om att viss anpassning av earned value management är möjlig med viss reglering. Studiens resultat kan vara ett stöd för företag inom byggbranschen vid projektstyrning eftersom det visar stegens påverkan på nästkommande steg och hur det sedan påverkar prognosberäkningarna i slutsteget. Det visar också effektiva arbetssätt för hantering av vanligt förekommande problem inom branschen. Begränsningar – Det finns en viss begränsning gällande generaliserbarheten av resultatet då studien endast omfattar ett fall. Studien är genomförd under en begränsad tidsperiod, vilken är betydligt kortare än genomförandetiden för studiens fall. Resultatet kan ha blivit mer tillförlitligt om studien utökats med ytterligare ett fall i form av ett avslutat projekt.

O presente trabalho teve por objetivo mapear a logística na gestão do portfólio de projetos de pesquisa, desenvolvimento e inovação tecnológica do Programa regulado de P e D da ANEEL. Desenvolvido no contexto regulatório e empresarial, avalia em que medida a realização desses projetos resultam em benefícios econômicos para concessionária. O trabalho examinou (i) gargalos que dificultam a apropriação dos resultados dos projetos de P e D pela própria concessionária e (ii) os aspectos motivacionais induzidos pela introdução de políticas públicas de incentivo ao setor. Esse foi o caso da Lei 9991/2000 que cria condições favoráveis à sustentabilidade corporativa e à introdução de inovações no mercado das concessionárias distribuidoras de energia elétrica pela aplicação de um percentual da sua receita operacional líquida no desenvolvimento de projetos de P e D. Os resultados da pesquisa confirmam uma tendência de crescimento dos montantes anuais de investimento no Programa e uma determinação de concentrar recursos num número menor de projetos direcionados às linhas de pesquisa de maior relevância da concessionária. A maioria dos projetos foi desenvolvida por universidades, com ou sem parceria com outras instituições, por um valor médio mais baixo do que o praticado pelas demais instituições executoras. Já as indústrias não tomam a iniciativa de propor projetos de P e D, provavelmente por não disporem de laboratórios próprios. Como medida para evitar a pulverização dos recursos de pesquisa observou-se uma preocupação do gestor em concentrar recursos em iniciativas de centros de pesquisa comprometidos com a solução de temas relevantes que têm afligindo o setor.
The present study aimed to map the logistics management of the portfolio of R, D and I (research, technological development and innovation) projects developed under the ANEEL regulated Program. Developed under the regulatory and business environment, it assesses the extent to which the realization of these projects results in economic benefits to the energy concessionaire. The study examined (i) bottlenecks that hinder the appropriation of the results achieved by the R, D and I projects contracted by the concessionaire and (ii) the motivational aspects induced by the introduction of public policies to incite the sector. This was the case of the 9991/2000-Act that created favourable conditions for corporate sustainability and the introduction of innovations in the market of electric energy operated by distribution concessionaires as it defines that a percentage of the net operating revenues must be applied in the development of R, D and I projects. The results of the survey carried out confirm a growing trend of the annual investment in the program and a determination to concentrate resources on fewer projects targeted to areas of research most relevant to the concessionaire. Most projects were developed by universities, with or without partnership with other institutions, for an average of investments lower than that charged by other executing agencies. The reason why industries do not take the initiative to propose R and D projects may be explained by the fact that they do not have their own laboratories. As a measure to avoid spraying of research resources there was a concern of the manager to concentrate resources on initiatives of research centres committed to the solution of important issues that have afflicted the sector.

In general, dreams are conceived, ideas are conceptualised, and initiatives are embarked upon in order to alter the state of realities. Dreams change realities; when mechanisms are put in place to realise them, dreams succeed. However, anecdotal evidence as well as empirical findings has continued to reiterate the difficulties associated with realising dreams related to construction projects. Extending the „dream‟ analogy to the South African construction industry context therefore paints an uninspiring picture. Dreams associated with construction do not have a 100% chance of becoming realities as evident in reported poor project performance in the industry. Shattered dreams in the form of poor performing projects, poorly implemented construction processes, or worst, projects delivered at the expense of unexpected cost to the client as a direct result of poor H&S or time overruns, negate the intent of dreams. This thesis is primarily concerned with project performance related bottlenecks in South African construction. After an extensive review of related literature that entails the analysis of publications related to non-value adding activities (NVAAs), supply chain management (SCM), and system dynamics (SD) in the construction project management realm, an exhaustive mixed-mode quantitative survey was conducted among key participants in the South African infrastructure sector. Public sector clients, consulting engineers and contractors that were involved in civil engineering projects were surveyed repeatedly with approximately five survey instruments at convenient intervals. Results arising from the study, inter-alia, indicate that: an appreciable amount of NVAAs occur in South African construction; these NVAAs become further compounded when propagated into other value adding activities (VAAs) in the construction process; the identified NVAAs equally perpetrate the menace associated with poor performance to the detriment of the achievement of cost, H&S, quality, and time project targets, and the root cause of these NVAAs that often contribute to poor performance is not far from the much reported „shortage of skills‟ in South Africa. Notable contributions to the body of knowledge include SD models are extendable regardless of the source of their empirical data as evident in the qualitative models proposed in this study; within the SD domain, it is advisable to consider the „competence‟ of individuals assigned to tasks especially in a developing country as this study revealed that human resources issues predominate among the sources of NVAAs that eventuate in a range of poor project performance; the NVAAs that occur, and their causes on projects are perceived to be due to lapses and / or inadequacies that involved the entire construction supply chain; there is no single construction process / task that is immune from being affected by NVAAs; and within the South African, and by implication construction context generally iii in developing countries, the adequacy of required knowledge among project stakeholders is the most crucial determinant of project performance. As opposed to what is obtainable in developed countries, the construction industry in developing countries, particularly in South Africa, should take advantage of knowledge management (KM) techniques such as brainstorming, communities of practices, and face-to-face interactions. These techniques can be driven through appropriate mentorship programmes, industry focused built environment education, and other human resources driven avenues that do not necessarily require substantial investment in technologies, so that to a large extent organisations in the industry can prioritise KM, and thereafter, continually engage in it for future performance improvement. Using inferential statistical methods for hypotheses testing, and SD concepts for creating qualitative models led to a range of recommendations which, inter-alia, propose that halting the tide of NVAAs and poor performance requires the management of both tacit and explicit knowledge gained in construction; and most importantly, it requires the assurance that „competence‟ is the overriding criteria for selecting project partners, and also, for assigning either design or construction related activities to responsible parties involved in project realisation in South Africa. In effect, in order to engender a culture of continuous improvement in South African construction, other considerations should be subservient to „competence‟ in the construction supply chain. Competence must be located among everyone involved in project realisation, that is, enhancing the competence of all involved in project realisation is as good as ensuring performance improvement, which in turn, equates to the acceleration of project delivery in South Africa.

The present study examines a Mobility Management measure called “test traveller project”, which aims at increasing the public transport modal share by offering free public transport tickets to those who often use their car for their daily commuting and trips. The existing literature consists of a rather limited number of cases and their scope is usually limited because only some of the main elements that influence one’s travel behaviour are considered in each study. Furthermore, literature is not unanimous in concluding that this measure can reduce car use. This work studies more than 50 cases in Sweden, and by employing the Theory of Planned Behaviour the effects of test traveller projects have been examined in an empirical case in the Swedish municipality of Botkyrka, located in the Stockholm metropolitan area. The findings underline that a test traveller project, despite its limitations, may be a valid and relatively simple tool available to public bodies and public transport companies for enticing a segment of car drivers to switch to public transport where it is a valid alternative. In fact, according to the literature, the major results achievable are around 20% of new public transport users among test travellers, whereas in Sweden 20% has been achieved by the first upper quartile of the projects. In particular, the effectiveness of a test traveller project is greater when combined or conducted in parallel with other measures such as improvements in the public transport offer and/or changes in the transport system aiming at disadvantaging car use. The case study of Botkyrka has confirmed that attitudes are the major influencing factor when making the transport mode choice. Further, it has confirmed that environmental concerns and the time passed from one’s residential relocation also play an important role. Habits seem to be less important, thus adhering to that literature whose authors argue that an external event (such as moving home) makes people reflect upon and rethink their travel habits. The case study in Botkyrka has empirically demonstrated how the project participants correct their beliefs and perceptions about public transport, sometimes in a positive way and sometimes in a negative way. An interesting finding is the existence of a new category of people living in the suburbs. Literature indicates that, in the same suburban context, individuals with suburban land use preferences tend to use the car more that individuals with urban land use preferences. In the case study of Botkyrka clearly emerged as a majority among the test traveller project participants a category of individuals who have a suburban land use preference but at the same time would like to use public transportation instead of their car and have high environmental concerns.

The logistics issue is one of the biggest challenges faced in today's construction industry. An increasing number of projects suffer from logistics problems that need to be examined, problems that are increasingly common in line with the high housing output. These problems are important to investigate as it especially affects savings, planning, damage and time and more. The list can be made long and is increasingly prevalent in today's construction industry. The purpose of this study is to provide solutions for improving logistics management at a construction site by comparing three different projects. Through this comparison, the authors have identified the parameters that influence logistics flow negatively, how efficient logistics flow can be achieved, and whether it is profitable with a logistics program. BTH Bygg currently has a number of different projects. The focus will be on the project Lyngsåsa, located in Dalarö, which is the primary project for this study. Furthermore, Lyngsåsa is to be compared with the Rosenlundsparken and Steninge Slottsby projects. Lyngsåsa is the only project of the above that has used Ahlsell's logistics program due to previous logistics problems. Exploration of the study has been based on the combination of literature studies, electronic information search, questionnaire and interviews. The survey was divided into professionals and officials on the three projects and interviews have been conducted for more responsible officials with experience and knowledge to get a deeper picture of the subject. The result shows that logistics programs are good for projects that are more complex, projects that suffer from production stoppages. The study shows that projects that are located closer to the city center have limited areas. In this study we recommend a logistics program for the Rosenlundsparken project. Parameters that adversely affect the logistics flow are poor communication and poor planning. Tools that construction companies can utilize are 7R, 5S and JIT.
Logistikfrågan är en av de största utmaningar som bemöts i dagens byggbransch. Allt fler projekt lider av logistikproblem som måste granskas, problem som är allt vanligare i takt med den höga bostadsproduktionen. Dessa problem är viktiga att undersöka då det i synnerhet påverkar besparing, planering, skador och tid med flera. Listan kan göras lång och är allt mer förekommande i dagens byggbransch.Syftet med denna studie är att ge förslag på lösningar som kan förbättra logistikhanteringen på en byggarbetsplats genom en jämförelse mellan tre olika projekt. Genom denna jämförelse har författarna som mål tagit fram vilka parametrar som påverkar logistikflödet negativt, hur ett effektivt logistikflöde kan åstadkommas samt om det är lönsamt med ett logistikprogram.I dagsläget har BTH Bygg en del olika projekt. Fokus kommer att riktas åt projektet Lyngsåsa som ligger i Dalarö vilket är det primära projektet för denna studie. Vidare skall Lyngsåsa jämföras med projekten Rosenlundsparken och Steninge Slottsby. Lyngsåsa är det enda projektet av ovanstående som har använt sig utav Ahlsells logistikprogram på grund av tidigare logistikproblem.Utforskning av studien har baserats på kombination av litteraturstudier, elektroniska informationssökning, enkätundersökning samt intervjuer. Enkätundersökningen delades till yrkesarbetarna och tjänstemän på de tre projekt och intervjuerna har utförts för mer ansvariga tjänstemän med erfarenhet och kunskap för att få en djupare bild av ämnet.Resultatet visar att logistikprogram är bra för projekt som är mer komplext, projekt som lider av stopp i produktionen. Studien visar att projekt som är placerade närmare till stadens centrum har begränsade ytor. I denna studie rekommenderar vi ett logistikprogram för projektet Rosenlundsparken. Parametrar som påverkar logistikflödet negativt är dålig kommunikation och dålig planering. Verktyg som byggföretag kan utnyttja är 7R, 5S och JIT.

This logistic foundation is defined by a transport solution, a loading solution that is associated with the transport, and a stock proposal for the elements. Husmuttern AB is a newly started company that has developed a new concept of modular housing, which will be built by order.The modular houses will be built by assembling prefabricated parts such as ceilings, walls, foundations and other elements. The advantage of building houses with prefabricated pieces is that the pieces themselves can hold a higher quality when prefabricated, than the pieces fabricated on the construction site, which results in a house that is built in a short matter of time, with high quality. Most of the elements will be prefabricated at Husmuttern’s micro factories.To make the prefabrication, construction and assembly of the houses possible, it is required that there is an efficient transport solution that transports all the necessary goods from retailers to the warehouse, micro-factory and construction site. The purpose of this work is to propose a suitable and efficient transport solution based on the weight and dimensions of the elements that have to be transported.This report is presenting solutions for these problems, where the solutions are assured by calculations that proves that the suggested transport is capable to deliver all necessary elements, and able of loading and unloading all the elements based on their weight and dimensions. A clear proposal on the stock solution for all elements is also presented in the report.The result of this work is considered as successful, due to the ensured transport method, loading method, and the suggested stock and transport partner. Thanks to these fundamental results, a foundation to the logistic solution is created and it is now possible to further develop the logistics, in order to achieve a complete logistics solution for Husmuttern AB.

Abstract:
Дисертаційна робота присвячена обґрунтуванню теоретичних та методичних засад логістики постачання виробничого обладнання на підприємство та розробленню практичні рекомендації щодо їх реалізації. В роботі розвинута дефініція «логістика постачання», виділено класифікаційні ознаки виробничого обладнання. Удосконалено процес логістики постачання виробничого обладнання на підприємство, який враховує особливості елементів виробничого обладнання, а також визначення найбільш вигідних способів постачання. Розроблено та запропоновано базову платформу логістики постачання виробничого обладнання на підприємство, яка враховує вплив мегатенденцій, вимог суб’єктів постачання, логістичні ризики. Запропоновано процес та масив критеріїв вибору постачальників логістичних послуг з організації перевезень негабаритних елементів виробничого обладнання, які містять маркетингові (ринкові) та фінансові показники. Удосконалено організаційне забезпечення проектного підходу щодо технології транспортування негабаритних елементів виробничого обладнання та оцінювання логістичних підпроцесів постачання за ознакою квазістандартність залежно від стану попиту та пропозиції на ринку логістичних послуг. The dissertation is devoted to substantiation of the theoretical and methodic fundamentals of the logistics of production equipment supply to the enterprise and development of the practical recommendations on their implementation. The research studies the notion of supply logistics, which should be considered as a separate kind of activity in the enterprise structure securing an effective system of organized shipping and storage of loads, and which aims to satisfy the enterprise’s needs at the maximum possible time and economic efficiency. The work shapes the conceptual peculiarities of the logistics of production equipment supply to the enterprise and outlines the essential content of the definition with consideration of the specificity of production equipment and processes of its shipping, as well as the concept of supply logistics. The author has developed a basic platform of the logistics of production equipment supply to the enterprise, which considers different supply entities and mega tendencies influencing the logistics of production equipment supply to the enterprise, as well as the logistic risks. A particular attention is paid to suppliers, who influence both the price and stability of shipping, guaranty of supplies in total accordance with the orders, service maintenance, commodity promotion, etc. It is determined that while choosing suppliers, it is reasonable to make analysis and assessment of their activities, completed purchase agreements; regulations of the competitive tenders and supply requests; application of the effective methods of negotiating with potential suppliers and achievement of positive results (responses). The work presents an improved process of the logistics of production equipment supply to the enterprise, which suggests optimization of the choice of suppliers of the production equipment elements, considering its characteristics, as well as identification of the most beneficial ways of those elements shipping. The dissertation identifies the systemized parameters of the oversize cargo shipping, particularly weight, length, width and height, which determine the oversize and overweight load. The studied parameters are included in the suggested model and make basis for the choice of the logistic service providers by determining the integral assessment with consideration of the importance of each of the chosen parameters. Considering the specific characteristics of production equipment and concerning the outsize elements of production equipment as a cargo unit (supply objects), it is proposed to consider the technical (overall size) and commercial component (shipping conditions), which determines the outsize load as a project one that is a constituent of the project logistics and requires an integrated approach to organization and management. The emphasis on the block of “Analysis of the results and “unification” of some stages and elements of the project” in the process of creation and fulfillment of the project of the outsize load shipping provides the opportunity for a logistic provider to use non-unified elements of equipment for transportation and to optimize costs of projecting and shipping of the project loads in the future due to standardization of some subprocesses and diversification. It is proposed (on the example of creation of a wind power station object) to involve the logistic provider of the appropriate level into the process of preparation, development and implementation of the project of creation of the production object to reach a higher efficiency factor of the project activity generally. The dissertation introduces the process and criteria of choice of the logistic service provider for organization of shipping of the outsize elements of production equipment, which is based on the principle of identity and decomposition – determination of the main clear goal, i.e. shipping of outsize elements of production equipment within the set time limits, not damaged and with optimal costs. The author has structured the scope of criteria on determination of the integral coincidence index of a logistic provider, which are grouped by the risk features (range of services, geography of shipping, position at the market, etc.) and financial indices. Under no clear partition of the notions of “levels of logistic services” by the complexity of provided services in the commercial supply of a transportation company, it is recommended to use the taxonomic method of determination of the integral coincidence index of the logistic provider with consideration of each criteria importance. Application of the weight coefficient for determination of the integral coincidence index makes it possible to use the proposed approach while choosing the logistic service provider of the appropriate level under a change of the criteria priority or extension/reduction of the set of criteria. Диссертационная робота посвящена обоснованию теоретических и методических основ логистике поставок производственного оборудования на предприятие и разработке практических рекомендаций по их реализации. В работе получила развитие дефиниция «логистика поставок», выделено классификационные признаки производственного оборудования. Усовершенствован процесс логистики поставок производственного оборудования на предприятие, при котором берутся учитываются особенности элементов производственного оборудования, а также определение выбор более выгодных способов поставок (в т.ч. и передача на аутсорсинг). Разработано и предложено базовую платформу логистики поставок, в которой учитывается влияние мегатенденций, требование субъектов поставок, логистические риски. Предложен процесс и массив критерии выбора поставщиков логистических услуг по организации перевозок негабаритных элементов производственного оборудования, в который входят маркетинговые (рыночные) и финансовые показатели. Усовершенствовано организационное обеспечение проектного подхода технологии транспортировки негабаритных элементом производственного оборудования и оценки логистических подпроцессов поставок по признаку «квазистандартность» в зависимости от состояния спроса та предложений на рынке логистических услуг.

Slussen är Stockholms andra största mötespunkt efter T-centralen. För den omfattande ombyggnation som Slussen står inför är projektets prioritering att minimera störningar i kollektivtrafik, gång – och cykeltrafik samt biltrafik då detta är en knutpunkt för såväl bilar, båtar kollektivtrafik samt fotgängare och cyklister. Här passerar 300 000 resenärer dagligen. För att ta reda på hur andra stora projekt har löst sina logistiska problem utfördes intervjuer på personer med insikt på logistik i deras verksamhet. Enkäter delades även ut till de olika delområdena i projekts Slussens byggledning för att få bättre förståelse för hur projektet vill arbeta. För att få en bra översikt över hur många transporter som kommer behöva passera ut och in genom entreprenadernas gränser utfördes beräkningar. Resultatet av undersökningarna visar att det viktigaste är att produkter levereras i rätt tid till rätt plats utan mellanlagring. För att kunna uppnå detta krävs god kommunikation. Detta erhålls med hjälp av IT-lösningar/webbplattformar där entreprenören lägger in sina transporter. Slussen Stockholm's second largest meeting point for Central Station. For the major reconstruction that slussen is facing is the project's priority is to minimize the disruption to public transport, walking - and bicycling and pedestrian as this is a major hub for cars, boats, public transport and pedestrians and cyclists. Here passes 300,000 travelers daily. To find out how other large projects have solved their logistics problems, interviews were conducted in person, with knowledge of logistics in their business. Questionnaires were also distributed to the different strands of the project slussens construction management to get a better understanding of how the project would work. To get a good overview of how many shipments will need to pass in and out through the construction limits was performed calculations. The results of the surveys show that the most important thing is that the products are delivered at the right time at the right place without intermediate storage. To achieve this requires good communication. This is obtained by using IT-solutions/web platforms where the entrepreneur puts into their shipments. This allows the client as well as contractor and the different subprojects have an eye on when deliveries are made at an early stage.

Abstract:
The public sector often invests in large projects in different sectors, such as education, health care and infrastructure. It can be argued that investment appraisal process in these projects should differ from conventional approaches due to the complex interests the public sector holds, which often implies that several aspects need to be considered. Conventional techniques may not suffice and therefore this thesis aims to investigate the applicability of real options analysis and multi-criteria analysis in a combined approach. The study is conducted in the form of a case study at publicly owned Sundsvalls Logistikpark, where options in the form of the utilization of development areas and the non-monetary aspect reduction of carbon dioxide are included in the appraisal. The model developed compares two alternative strategies where one is based upon conventional usage of the area and the other represents the environmentally friendly alternative. The results show that including the value of flexibility in the appraisal significantly raises the initial valuation, whereas the comparison of the strategies show that the results either details which strategy is preferred, if input to both strategies are available, or where the threshold for indifference lies. It is concluded that this model is applicable in terms of its ability to capture the value of flexibility and inclusion of several aspects of the decision problem. However, it is also concluded that the numerous simplifications made may lead to unreliability in the results, and the process of obtaining accurate input may time-consuming, depending on the case. The usability of the model is high in terms of its potential, but lower in terms of the knowledge-based threshold required of the user.

В работе рассмотрены теоретические основы, зарубежный и отечественный опыт развития логистической инфраструктуры, новые направления концепций логистических центров. Осуществлено прогнозирование перспектив развития логистической инфраструктуры региона, разработано финансово-экономическое обоснование инвестиционно-строительного проекта Логистического центра класса «А» и получены маркетинговые результаты по проекту создания Логистического центра в районе железнодорожной станции Седельниково Свердловской области. Рассмотрены источники финансирования проекта, сформирован бюджет проекта, рассчитаны показатели экономической эффективности проекта. В заключении сформулированы основные выводы и обобщены результаты исследования.
The master's thesis consists of an introduction, three chapters, conclusion, list of references and applications. The paper discusses the theoretical foundations, foreign and domestic experience in the development of logistics infrastructure, new areas of logistics center concepts. The forecasting of the prospects for the development of the region’s logistics infrastructure has been carried out, a financial and economic justification has been developed for the investment and construction project of the Class A Logistics Center, and marketing results have been obtained for the project of creating the Logistics Center in the area of the Sedelnikovo railway station in the Sverdlovsk Region. The sources of financing the project are considered, the project budget is formed, the indicators of the economic efficiency of the project are calculated. In conclusion, the main conclusions are formulated and the results of the study are summarized.

The purpose of this study is to develop knowledge about collaborative procurement strategies and how these strategies can contribute with motivation for an effective project performance in smaller municipal infrastructure projects. The study also aims to develop an understanding about how a construction logistics centre is applicable to an infrastructure project. Also, how the procurement strategies can create motivation to obtain an effective utilization of a construction logistic centre. To achieve the purpose with the study, a case study of Stockholm Royal Seaport (Norra Djurgårdsstaden) with focus on two infrastructure projects with a mandatory utilization of a construction logistic centre, has been examined. By an abductive method, in terms of literature studies and semi- structured interviews, this study results in that partnering and the payment form cost reimbursement have been a considerable important strategy for the project success. The main conclusion in this study is that collaborative procurement strategies and its components are applicable to a smaller municipal infrastructure project. Significant components to obtain an effective project performance has also been found. Furthermore, the study has shown that a construction logistics centre, designed as in Stockholm Royal Seaport, is not fully adapted to infrastructure projects with similar conditions as the two studied projects. This makes it difficult to draw general conclusions about how procurement strategies should be formed to create motivations for an effective utilization of a construction logistic centre. However, suggestions are given about how procurement can create motivation to obtain an effective utilization of a construction logistic centre by using literature studies. Conclusions can be drawn that partnering and a focus on long term relationships has created motivations for the actors to work effective.
Studiens syfte är att skapa kunskap kring samarbetsinriktade upphandlingsstrategier och hur dessa kan skapa drivkrafter mot ett effektivt projektgenomförande i mindre kommunala anläggningsprojekt. Studien syftar även till att skapa en förståelse om hur ett bygglogistikcenter förhåller sig till anläggningsprojekt samt hur upphandlingsstrategin kan skapa drivkrafter mot ett effektivt nyttjande av ett bygglogistikcenter. För att uppnå syftet med studien har en fallstudie av Norra Djurgårdsstaden med fokus på två anläggningsprojekt, med ett obligatoriskt nyttjande av ett bygglogistikcenter, undersökts. Genom en abduktiv forskningsmetod, i form av litteraturstudier och semi- strukturerade intervjuer, resulterar denna studie i att samverkan och ersättningsformen löpande räkning har varit en betydande strategi för projektens framgång. En huvudsaklig slutsats i studien är att samarbetsinriktade upphandlingsstrategier passar i mindre kommunala anläggningsprojekt. Betydelsefulla komponenter för att uppnå ett effektivt projektgenomförande har även påträffats. Dessutom har studien visat att ett bygglogistikcenter, utformat som i Norra Djurgårdsstaden, inte är helt anpassat till ett anläggningsprojekt. Detta gör det svårt att dra slutsatser från resultatet kring hur upphandlingsstrategier bör formas för ett effektivt nyttjande av ett bygglogistikcenter. Däremot ger studien förslag på hur entreprenadupphandlingen kan skapa drivkrafter för ett effektivt nyttjande av ett bygglogistikcenter med hjälp av litteraturstudier. Avslutningsvis kan slutsatser dras om att samverkansentreprenader, och ett fokus på långsiktiga relationer, skapar drivkrafter till aktörer att utföra ett effektivt projektgenomförande.

Stockholmsregionen växer sig allt större och efterfrågan på bostäder är hög. Järntorget är ett företag vars kärnverksamhet består av bostadsutveckling, speciellt i attraktiva storstadslägen. Att Järntorget väljer att bygga i attraktiva storstadslägen leder till att många av byggprojekten är lokaliserade i områden med redan tät bebyggelse. Den täta bebyggelsen leder till logistiska problem i form av begränsade utrymmen att leverera och lagra material på. Logistik handlar om att få rätt material på rätt plats, i rätt tid och till rätt kostnad. I den här studien studeras projektet Klarbäret. Klarbäret består av 131 studentlägenheter som ska byggas i centrala Stockholm. Detta leder till att utrymmet är begränsat och det kommer att ställas höga krav på logistiken. Syftet med studien var att identifiera en lämplig logistiklösning för att minska kostnaderna, underlätta byggprocessen och öka effektiviteten vid byggprocessen. Studiens resultat pekade på att Järntorget borde anlita en logistikansvarig som kan vara med under hela processen och ansvara för logistiken. Det rekommenderas att logistikansvarig använder sig av det framtagna logistikdokumentet. Ytterligare ett förslag om att Järntorget ska använda sig av ett bokningssystem för sina transporter. Bokningssystemet skulle göra det lättare för alla berörda på arbetsplatsen att se när under dagen leveranser är beräknade till platsen och för att få leveranserna bättre sprida över dagen. Gällande transporter till bygget kommer materialet för bland annat stommen att behöva omlastas för att få in mindre lastbilar till byggarbetsplatsen på grund av den rådande BK2 klassningen i Stockholms innerstad. För att kunna genomföra detta rekommenderas att ta in ett TPL företag för att kunna minska transporterna genom samlastning. Eftersom det inte finns lagringsmöjligheter på byggarbetsplatsen behöver så mycket material som möjligt lyftas in i själva huskroppen när stommen för det våningsplanet är färdigställt. Det rekommenderas även att anlita ett TPL företag som kan bära in inredningsmaterial utanför arbetstid för att minska kostnader och öka effektiviteten. Vissa saker kommer inte att kunna lagras och behöver därför levereras när det ska användas. Bland annat betongelementen. Detta leder till att det utmynnar i en typ av JIT-lösning men då enbart för stommaterialet.

Nesse trabalho apresentamos a modelagem matemática do Projeto de Rede da Cadeia de Suprimentos (Supply Chain Network Design) de uma empresa responsável pela produção e distribuição de commodities. O investimento em uma nova fábrica exige que a empresa tenha seu projeto logístico readequado. O desenvolvimento das formulações matemáticas é baseado no trabalho de Jayaraman e Pirkul (2001). Foram realizadas 3 (três) formulações matemáticas de diferentes abordagens para solução do projeto logístico. As implementações computacionais foram realizadas no CPLEX© Optimization Studio Academic Research versão 12.2. As experiências computacionais foram desenvolvidas através de cenários que buscaram representar problemas de dimensões reais. Ainda na etapa de experimentação foram realizadas análises de sensibilidade dos modelos. Um estudo para identificar as demandas de mercado e os custos de transporte foi realizado, sendo assim, foi possível aplicar os modelos no estudo de caso a partir de dados reais de demanda e custos. Para execução das instâncias reais foram selecionadas 2 (duas) abordagens distintas: Single-source e Arcbased. Diferentes market shares foram definidos para construção de novos cenários e instâncias reais foram executadas dentro de limites computacionais de tempo satisfatórios. Os resultados encontrados para cada cenário foram comparados e analisados em relação à resolução do problema proposto. A dissertação contribui para a área de modelagem da cadeia de suprimentos fornecendo modelos que apresentaram resultados satisfatórios para a tomada de decisão nessa fase do projeto logístico da indústria tema dessa pesquisa.
We present a mathematical modeling of the Supply Chain Network Design (SCND) for a company responsible for producing and distributing commodities. Investment in a new plant requires that the company has reconfigured its logistics project. The development of mathematical formulations is based on the work of Jayaraman and Pirkul (2001). Were performed three (3) mathematical formulations for different approaches to solving the logistics project. Computational implementations were done in CPLEX© Optimization Academic Research Studio version 12.2. Computational experiments were developed through scenarios that sought to represent problems of the real dimensions. Still in the experimentation fase were performed sensitivity analysis of models. A study to identify market demands and transportation costs was made, so the models could be applied in the case study data from actual demand and costs. For carrying out the actual instances were selected 2 (two) different approaches: Single-source-based and Arc. Different market shares were set to build new scenarios and actual instances have been implemented within limits satisfactory computational time. The results for each scenario were compared and analyzed for solving the proposed problem. The thesis contributes to modeling area of supply chain models that provide satisfactory results for decision making in this phase of the project's logistics industry theme of this research.

In 1950, the Museum of Modern Art exhibited for the first time the work of an architectural office instead than a single designer. The exhibition's poster child was Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), billed in MoMA's press release as a firm driven by both the "discipline of modern architecture" and "the discipline of American organizational methods." MoMA's pivot to showcase collaborative practices rather than individual designers represented the broader emergence of large architectural offices in the postwar period. This thesis investigates the work of SOM, characterized by Frank Lloyd Wright with perhaps unbeknownst precision as a 'plan factory.' It does so by introducing the idea of the 'extra-architectural' artifact: the residual traces of the procedures and protocols undergirding the office's built projects, as of yet overlooked by the chroniclers of the firm. These artifacts are used as evidence to show how SOM's in-house design of managerial logistics resulted in a subsequent architecture of logistics. This thesis begins first in 1933, with the exhibition of products and urban-scale infrastructure at the Century of Progress; second, with a wartime advertising practice in print and prototype, and subsequent federally funded defense housing contracts; and third, with early "crude" efforts to calculate an 'optimized' architecture-by-spreadsheet in the '60s and '70s in partnership with IBM. This study of SOM's extra-architectural projects ultimately reveals a similarity to the experimentation of the architectural avant-garde and provokes a rethinking of Manfredo Tafuri's theoretical metropolis. Emerging intrinsically from the conduct of a large organization, SOM's experimental logistics suggest a different way to understand the self-propagation of the corporate office, a model for architectural practice growing at an exponential rate in the contemporary field.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of the research is to increase the understanding of how insufficient information sharing between internal stakeholders can be mitigated during new product development projects. Two research questions were formulated to conduct answers to the purpose.  Why is it crucial to mitigate insufficient information sharing between internal stakeholders during new product development projects? How can potential challenges during new product development projects be mitigated through information sharing between internal stakeholders? Method – To create an understanding of information sharing a literature review was conducted, which formed the foundation of the theoretical framework. Through a case study at SAAB Training & Simulation, interviews were used as the main source for empirical data. Document studies and observations were used to triangulate the findings. The collected data and theoretical framework were analyzed and discussed to propose improvements. Findings – The research findings indicate that an insufficient information flow can cause several challenges related to deadlines, profit and how information is interpreted. It should therefore be a prioritization for an organization to constantly improve how information is shared between internal stakeholders during new product development projects. Additionally, the research analysis suggests that organizations’ need to allocate more time for educational opportunities. Implications – The research highlighted a new perspective on previous research within the area. Through the research analysis statements and theories made by other researchers were further strengthened. The research suggests ways of improving information sharing between internal stakeholders. The result can be used by other industrial organizations working with new product development projects to improve their information sharing to mitigate challenges connected to insufficient information sharing. Limitations – Due to the complexity of information sharing within new product development projects, the research was limited to one case company. Additionally, mainly managers were interviewed which posed a risk that the collected data only provided an overview rather than a deep insight in the processes of sharing information between internal stakeholders. If the authors were to use several organizations and conduct more interviews, the results could increase the credibility and generalizability of the research.

In a current context of important material deliveries, mostly produced in Europe and shipped to China, many standards need to be set, rules to be established, liabilities to be defined. However, most of the time, to implement these concepts, the issues need to be faced first, and that is the situation at the moment in the Taishan project. The choice in this master thesis has been made to focus on the overall delivery process, as well as the package opening once delivered to China, to detail the transmission of responsibilities and the actions to be implemented in case of problems. This issue is of the greatest importance in such a project of Engineering and Procurement of two complete EPRTMreactors1. It is not the same treatment when a problem occurs on a simple valve and when it occurs on a several thousands euros worth element. The thorough study of the supply chain illustrates the theory to point out the main elements of concern. From Sub-suppliers until building erection, the main points are discussed to give the reader an insight of integrated supply chain. As a consequence this master thesis introduces and discusses the supply chainrelated processes in the Taishan project, to give a clear overview of the reality.

Abstract:
As an important basis in decision-making, risk assessment has been applied in many fields. However, most risk analyses of logistics projects are still at their infancy, wherein qualitative methods are applied. Performing further qualitative and quantitative analyses of the risk of logistics projects is meaningful. This thesis aims to thoroughly analyse the effects of risk factors on project objectives to illustrate the economic goals of investment and the possibility of realisation. Hence, it can promote scientific decision-making by investors, which is the main issue in this thesis. Large-scale logistics projects are characterised by high risk, high investment, and high professionalism. This thesis applies risk assessment to logistics projects and divides the risk assessment of logistics projects into two levels. In the first level, various risk factors in the process of investment, construction and operation of the logistics projects are fully considered, and a set of risk comprehensive evaluation index system for the logistics projects is established. At this level, this thesis assigns light to each factor, judges the degree of risk of each factor in logistics projects and evaluates the risk degree of the logistics projects via fuzzy comprehensive measurement method (FCMM). It proposes a logistic alliance risk identification and analysis method based on the particle swarm optimisation (PSO) algorithm and penalty function method to address the limitation of existing methods, such as FCMM. This proposed method is called PSO–analytic hierarchy process (PSO–AHP). On the basis of the introduced index system and methods, this thesis uses Hanjin Shipping as a novel case to show how risk evaluation is performed. Results show that both methods can be used to predict the risk of Hanjin Shipping, and management risk is the main risk faced by Hanjin Shipping. This finding is consistent with the predicted results. The contents of this thesis provide meaningful results for actual application. Thus, the models and index system applied in this thesis (FCMM and PSO–AHP) can be used to perform risk measurement. In the second level, combined with the results of the overall risk assessment of the logistics projects, this thesis provides several suggestions on risk prevention for these kind of logistics projects. This thesis not only measures the risk of large-scale logistics projects but also provides several strategies to improve the management of logistics projects and reduce the probability of risk in the Chinese context. Moreover, this thesis generates suggestions for the development of Chinese large-scale logistics projects in South Africa. The main contents of this thesis can be summarised as follows. The first chapter is the introduction. This chapter briefly introduces the background of large-scale logistics projects, explains the purpose and significance of the research and introduces the main research issues and innovations. It also briefly introduces the structure of this thesis. The second chapter comprises a review of previous studies. It mainly reviews and summarizes relevant literature on risk theory and logistics risk to provide a solid background analysis for the remaining part of this thesis. The third and the fourth chapters are about the methodologies and indicators used in this thesis. The third chapter summarises and introduces the main methods used in the risk assessment for the logistics projects. It focuses on the methods used in this thesis. The fourth chapter presents a systematic analysis of the various risks faced in the process of investment, construction and operation of logistics projects. It appropriately enumerates the main analysis of this thesis, namely, the various risks in large-scale logistics projects. An index system is also constructed in this chapter. The fifth and sixth chapters focus on the specific operation process of the models used in this thesis. These chapters focus on the data analysis according to the models proposed in previous chapters, and the results of quantitative analysis are mainly discussed. The seventh chapter is aimed at the risk prevention of large-scale logistics projects. The eighth chapter is the research summary and outlook, where it summarises the conclusions and shortcomings of this research, discusses the innovation of this thesis from the analysis and indicates further research directions. The main contributions of this thesis are as follows. (1) On the basis of China’s Belt and Road strategy, this thesis pays special interest on the risk analysis of large-scale logistics projects. With the development of Chinese economics and special relationship with South Africa, cooperating in aspects where logistics projects play a great connecting role becomes increasingly important for these countries Thus, ensuring how the risk of China’s large-scale logistics projects is sufficiently low becomes increasingly important. The methods and results in this thesis can be applied to the large-scale logistics projects in China and South Africa. (2) Many studies on risk assessment issues obtain risk factors using Delphi method (Dalkey and Helmer, 1963; Fan, 2019; Dufour et al., 2017). This method usually suffers from the fact that the experts’ knowledge, ability and experience limit their personal judgement method, and the recognition result is influenced by the subjective factors of the experts. This thesis does not use AHP method on it own but focuses on the usage of work breakdown structure (WBS) method to determine the risk factors of logistics construction projects, which can provide a reasonable risk index system. As WBS can let people carefully build an index system from each aspect of the large-scale logistics projects. (3) This thesis generates a PSO method to PSO–AHP method and applies it in the risk assessment of large-scale logistics projects, in which Hanjin Shipping is taken as an example in a novel way. Many studies primarily use FCMM to perform the risk assessment. However, limited research focuses on the use of PSO–AHP methods on the risk assessment of large-scale logistics projects. This thesis not only uses FCMM to handle risk assessment but also uses PSO–AHP method and then selects the better method on the basis of certain criteria. By doing so, this thesis provides an excellent example for researchers to select between the two models for risk assessment. (4) This thesis not only measures the risk of large-scale logistics projects but also provides several strategies that can improve the management of logistics projects to reduce the chance of risk happening based on actual situations. It also generates suggestions for the development of Chinese large-scale logistics projects in South Africa. As the measurement of risk in terms of large-scale logistics projects is an instrument for people to prevent risk, each method should be used to guide the development in actual situations. Thus, this thesis provides several strategy suggestions that can reduce the risk of large-scale logistics projects in China and South Africa by combining the results obtained from models and actual situations in China and South Africa.
