Abstract:

The aim of this thesis project is to create a user interface for a web based film production project management portal. This implies creating a site map and a functionality specification based on the needs of the people working in the film production industry. The project was made on account of The Chimney Pot, a post production company in Stockholm. For the scope of this project, the research was concentrated on the part of film production that concerns The Chimney Pot, i.e. the procedures that take place after a film has been recorded. The research also focused on people working in the area of Stockholm, even if their clients and customers in other areas of Sweden and abroad were indirectly included in order for the project portal to be a usable tool in projects where these people are involved.

Before any visible results can be seen in a web production project, a range of preparation steps needs to be taken. Planning is essential if the final product shall work properly. Extensive research has to be done into the industry. In order to make the product usable, the intended users, their requirements, work procedures and environment need to be examined. Only when there are substantial results and enough knowledge about the industry, the actual implementation can start. The first step is to make a functionality specification, next a site map should be produced and the technical architecture should be specified. These are the areas that are covered in this project, but there are also recommendations about how the further development should be made. Important aspects in the next phase are to create a budget, to put together a development team and to create a graphic user interface. In the whole process the issues of usability need to be considered, i.e. efficiency, flexibility, learnability and satisfaction.

The key requirements for the project portal turned out to be speed and effectiveness. The user interface was designed to be intuitive and to be shallow, which means that the user should be able to perform any task with the least amount of mouse clicks possible. Another intention with the produced user interface is for it to be clearly divided into the four main areas that could be extracted from the user requirements. They are planning, project details, communication and file sharing. Directly after logging on to the project portal, the user should get an overview of all these areas. Other important considerations were security, version control and seamlessness. These issues demand a thorough planning of the technical architecture and this thesis provides some useful tips for the further development of the technical specification.

In this dissertation, I present the results of a project which aim was to find out and try an effective model of independent curatorial project executable in small and medium cities in Portugal. The concept of Moving Curatorial Project ARTMAP is a result of theoretical research and reflection about municipal exhibition spaces and possibility of presentation of the contemporary art in these spaces. To test if this curatorial project is realizable and if there are conditions to continue it, a first trial was implemented in Aveiro. A curated international exhibition, entitled “A Poética do Visual" occupied two municipal and two private gallery spaces and brought together 111 artists from 25 different countries. The art event was carried out in collaboration with the Municipality of Aveiro and the University of Aveiro, and involved several private cultural spaces in the city. This first experience showed that there are all conditions for the presentation of contemporary art in small and medium size locations in Portugal, and for this project to be replicated in other regions of the country.

Abstract:
Thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree Master of Technology: Business Administration in Project Management in the Faculty of Business at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology 2013
Good governance has been and is a growing phenomenon for almost all business organisations regardless of size, profit margins and purpose for existence. Government, quasi-government, non-governmental organisations and even civic organisations have adopted a project-based approach to business. The City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality is one such organisation that had adopted a project-based approach to business. The challenge was how to effectively and efficiently implement governance issues around projects and business organisations. Most organisations can easily be misled if issues of governance are not clearly defined and followed. A project-based approach helps in defining the resources needed at specific times, the time required for a specific task and the cost of a specific operation. In a multi-project environment (programme) resources are shared in a well-defined manner. The City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality has a huge responsibility in terms of successfully initiating, planning and implementing projects successfully. The magnitude and the dynamic complexities of their operation call for proper governance structures to be established within any municipality if service delivery is the main objective. Managing complex and mega projects calls for certain leadership traits. A fusion of these traits at different management levels will be critical for effective delivery of services to the electorate. Models and plans need to be in place as guidance to successful implementation of projects. A number of people, committees and institutions have developed different governance frameworks that can be adopted by organisations as a guide to good governance. This research is based on King III guide to good governance. Challenges experienced by other Municipalities and business organisations e.g. Nelson Mandela Municipality, Eastern Cape Education Department, Transnet, LeisureNet, Limpopo Provincial government and many others, directly relate to poor governance. This therefore calls for the investigation of the Corporate Services directorate in the City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality to establish the level of compliance with what King III had recommended as a framework for good governance. The City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality has different general governance frameworks in place. However they do not use them effectively because of different issues identified by the researcher. The major challenges facing the City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality are effective governance communication and lack of training in the practice of good governance. There were serious discrepancies when it comes to understanding and interpreting governance issues within the different levels of management. It is expected that an organisation like the City of Cape Town Metropolitan Municipality should have proper communication channels and effective training programmes. The researcher also found that information is not readily available to people who need it most yet the expectation is that information be readily available.

Bernard, Claire. "La biodiversité par projet : Réflexivité engagée et dispositif stratégique en Albanie." Thesis, Montpellier, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016MONTD058/document.

Abstract:
Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) operates mainly through projects. Envisioned as an efficient mean to inject funds according established targets in specific sectors of the economy, projects have generated a vast managerial literature aiming at optimizing the delivery of rationally planned and controlled outputs. Projects are also widely used to mainstream biodiversity in the ODA sector. However, our genealogy of biodiversity as a global environmental issue shows how this kind of wicked and ambiguous problem challenges the mechanistic rationality at the basis of all ODA project models. Building on both global and local levels, biodiversity issues cannot be properly constructed and managed through ex ante planning processes or ex post evaluations, but are arising from multi-actors interactions throughout the project life.By shifting the traditional focus of analysis of project management we assume a posture of "embedded research" allows us to experiment and describe the strategic activity of conceiving environmental action frames. We are equipping this posture building on Strategic Environmental Management Analysis (SEMA), adjusted with foucaldian analytical frameworks in management science on collective action design.Pairing the concepts of “regime” and “device”, we propose to use them as a central analytic tool to study this strategic activity that articulates a general intention – a biodiversity regime – conceived through a project understood as a device (i.e.: an heterogeneous set of actors, institutions, tools and knowledges). The figure of "reflexive pole” endorses the conception of the environmental strategy as a liminal site embedded in a specific device through the exercise of a “committed reflexivity”.The project used as an empirical basis for this intervention research, funded by the French Global Environment Facility (GEF), was designed in an original approach between Albanian Rural Development Agency (MADA) and Mediterranean intergovernmental organization (CIHEAM-IAMM) having agreed to "embark" a research function in a concrete process of building Signs of quality and origin (SIQO) for local productions from pastoral and agricultural systems and collection activities of non-timber products. The hypothesis advanced by the project "BiodivBalkans" (2012-2016) was that this process can promote a sustainable environmental management of agro-silvopastoral Albanian territories. This inquiry – led in a pragmatic perspective – is based on a situated narrative and description of the project’s developments studied as a strategic device, to which is attached the activity of the “reflexive pole”. Doing so, we emphasize the cognitive, organizational and strategic nature of conceiving the frames of environmental action in a situated device related to an evolving biodiversity regime. Beyond the irreducibility of this experience, the added value of this research work is twofold. From a practical standpoint, we propose to consider the “reflexive pole’s” activity as an additional modality to design and implement ODA environmental projects. We derive three invariants of this biodiversity mainstreaming activity (i.e.: framing, shaping, using), which designate three modes of exerting a “committed reflexivity”. Theses strategic operations of different nature and conceptual scales are to design the environmental dimension of collective action devices in complex, ambiguous and adverse universe. From an analytical standpoint then, theorizing the “reflexive pole’s” strategic activity allows us to redefine the status of the environmental actor as proposed by the Strategic Environmental Management Analysis (SEMA) in an actor-centric perspective. We used the concepts of “knowledge brokering" and» boundary organization” to enlarge this focus with a socio-cognitive dimension and build theoretical foundations to further explore the cognitive, procedural and located dimension of environmental changes in collective action devices

The course of project development rarely follows the orginal plan in such dynamically changed business environment. Configuration Management is a management discipline that imply systems of technology and administration within project development life cycle. Change is a double-edged sword that represent the motive power for project enhancement but also obstruction. In a process of development, it is important to formally initiate a change through the submission of a change request and how change is deployed. Confirmation of whether the certain change should be approved and authorized to implement or not is a critical influence on the result of all kinds of project, therefore it is to prevent loss in business from ensuing risk due to the project change. In this research, I plan to construct a change management model suitable for software development sector, focus on the creation of the change management process can thus enhance project quality and organization's value, and probe into application strategy and how to practice, hence provide an important reference for enterprise to apply its change process. Though CMMI (Capability Maturity Model Integration) is the international standard of software quality , it still has a room for improvement regarding change management process. An aim of this research was to propose a model, named as ─YU3 change management process model∥, which is suitable for software development industry. It modified the change management process of CMMI applying rigorous management techniques of PMP, leaded monitoring project performance of PMP in , and then proposed an appropriate process of improving measure. After the process was established, it was verified and recommended by five experts holding CMMI, PMP and abundant practical experiences in project management area to heighten reliability of ─YU3 change management process model∥ proposed by this research. “YU3 change management process model∥ was amended and verified by a variety of recommendations proposed by experts. Establishing this model can not only make change management of project efficiently , but also enhance the confirmation of change requirement , strengthen the procedure of improving measures and achieve the goal of change management via reducing error probability during change execution.

In recent years, while the cloud computing and mobile device tended to maturely. The way that the industry give impetus to an E-Commerce platform or makes use of information technology to integrate a great deal of information. Construction Industry is no exception. By the review of the literature can be found in the current construction industry encountered many problems on the progress of the control, the main purpose of this study is to solve the schedule control process "systematic control processes". Therefore this study wants to develop the construction concept project progress tube to control the system embryonic form. This study first improved the traditional implementation framework for project management before introducing the improved framework into the system in this study as its basic work flow. Then, user needs were carefully analyzed by applying concepts in information system analysis and design. The analysis results then served as the basis for developing the architecture and functional modules of the system. This was followed by modeling of data flows in the system using data flow diagrams in graphics tool. Then, data relationships were established by referring to the database design and were represented in an entity relationship diagram. Finally, a user interface was designed to provide users with a prototypical user interface of the system. Graphical display was used to enable users to try the future operation panel of the system, thus minimizing major changes to the system when it goes live in the future and eliminating the need of additionally purchasing commercial hardware and software for project management during setup and the cost. This study contributed to the systemization of progress control processes by discussing concepts and logic in the system and clearly explaining their definitions, such as critical information, user need analysis and system architecture design. The schedule control system developed in this study is expected to help improveaccuracy in progress control by integrating related operations using informationtechnology and provide more decision scheme options for project management.

The information security and the system quality for the banking are extremely important. However, the financial IT industry in order to save the cost of training technical personnel expenditures, system outsourcing has been a trend. On present situation, bank IT has to establish a good consultative process and manage the project efficiently to have the opportunity to create the win-win situation. In the beginning of project, the plan proposed to be done must be drafted in consultation with the participants, so that the participants are willing to move forward toward common goals. When the project plan had been established, systems development also needs management. This is the project management duty for processing and coordination of emergency situation. Whether plan is beginning or proceeding, "project management" is an important issue. Therefore, it makes PM more important and necessary. However, project managers are not omnipotent in reality. On the premise of application and practicality, resources and suggestion provided by experts to solve the problem is project managers’ responsibilities, yet in progress of Project Management. In reality, it needs a lot of management attribute, such as manpower, cost, category, time and so on. These factors often change with environment. Our research established an Automated Negotiation Mechanism that progresses similar to human thinking process in project management on the basis of Multi-agent systems. In this study, we also build the system model to verify the feasibility of our consultation mechanism and genetic algorithm, and show the results of agent iv consulation simulation and the best special case combination suggested by the genetic algorithm when the negotiations fail. ※This study provides two core concepts: 1. When agent consultative mechanism endows agents with different negotiation behavior and tasks of PM, the automated negotiation system has become more user-friendly. 2. If the consultation fails, there will be a genetic algorithm trying to find the best combination. The purpose is to apply the agent in an integrated consultative mechanism, so that participants can consider their own interests in accordance with the properties to make adjustments flexible. For example, in the consultation, IT will adopt the most stringent requirements of system quality. In this regard, IT is impossible to make concessions. If all proposals cannot meet the participants’ needs, the genetic algorithm will be carried out to find the best combination according to the cost-effective value. Consequently, the best combination is used to offer participants further choice. In this research mentioned when consultation defeats, the system will try to find the best combination to give advice on the proposal, and to supply a record of the results to the agent system. By this way will accumulate and train thinking and decision-making capacity gradually, the model in the current research less mentioned. In the future may supply direction of the following research.

"Tools for Problem- and Project-based Learning in Sustainability Science Education: A Case Study of Two Undergraduate Classes." Master's thesis, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/2286/R.I.17937.

Abstract:
abstract: Teamwork and project management (TPM) tools are important components of sustainability science curricula designed using problem- and project-base learning (PPBL). Tools are additional materials, beyond lectures, readings, and assignments, that structure and facilitate students' learning; they can enhance student teams' ability to complete projects and achieve learning outcomes and, if instructors can find appropriate existing tools, can reduce time needed for class design and preparation. This research uses a case study approach to evaluate the effectiveness of five TPM tools in two Arizona State University (ASU) sustainability classes: an introductory (100-level) and a capstone (400-level) class. Data was collected from student evaluations and instructor observations in both classes during Spring 2013 and qualitatively analyzed to identify patterns in tool use and effectiveness. Results suggest how instructors might improve tool effectiveness in other sustainability classes. Work plans and meeting agendas were the most effective TPM tools in the 100-level class, while work plans and codes of collaboration were most effective at the 400 level. Common factors in tool effectiveness include active use and integration of tools into class activities. Suggestions for improving tool effectiveness at both levels include introducing tools earlier in the course, incorporating tools into activities, and helping students link a tool's value to sustainability problem-solving competence. Polling students on prior use and incorporating tool use into project assignments may increase 100 level tool effectiveness; and at the 400 level, improvements may be achieved by introducing tools earlier and coaching students to select, find, and develop relevant tools.

Abstract:
Nowadays, both a high degree of exigency and competitiveness are the main features of the industrial macroeconomic environment. In such kind of environment, the success or failure of an organization may be determined by the capacity and the means to adapt itself to the requirements of the market and how it can, effectively and efficiently, respond to the customers’ demands. The supply chain optimization allows an organization to plan strategies that enable a different approach from that of its competitors and, in that way, gain a competitive advantage in the markets. Aware of the national and world economical conjuncture, WEGEuro intends to keep up with the evolution of the invoicing profit established by the WEG group, increasing the production in Portugal with the construction of a new industrial unit in St. Tirso. The new facilities are intended to accommodate both one of the production lines and the factory’s external warehouse in Maia, thus reducing the transportation costs and increasing responsiveness to production supplies. The presented warehousing facilities transfer project focuses in the definition and implementation of a plan to change storage facilities, with the goal of displacing the existent warehouse to the new facilities without compromising the supply of the production line. As secondary goal there is also the layout delimitation of the new storage area with the purpose of making the storage and supply system to the factory more efficient, seeking to reduce or eliminate the non-value added operations and increasing the installed storage capacity. Despite the short amount of time, with this project was possible to achieve successfully the transference operation of the warehouse to the new facilities without incurring in order losses or customers’ dissatisfaction due to inefficiency in the supply process. The consolidation of WEGEuro external warehouse with the new production plant allowed a decrease of the associated logistic costs in terms of supplying and a reduction of the factory ground stock. The redefinition of the new warehouse layout resulted in the improvement of the supply capacity in 30%, reducing the number of unopened boxes and minimizing the multi-article storage. Adding to this, the diminishing in the distance of storing and the existence of three loading and unloading bays will allow an increase in the efficiency of the materials handling operations.

Abstract:
The subject of this report is the organization of the rotines in the contexto of nursery school and kindergarten. Representing a subjective study of the realities observed in two diferente contexts, it intends to articulate the theoretical foundations of research in education with the lived experiences in nursery school and kindergarten within the scope of the Masters in Preschool Education. According to the interpretivist paradigm and having the action research as methodology, the aim of this study was to understand the pedagogical importance of routines, both for children and for the work of the team. Through the chosen devices and investigative procedures, as well as my own interpretation for the observed and, mostly, lived situations, educational environments will be described and interpreted regarding the routines and conceptions of the cooperative educator in the kindergarten context. Finally some general considerations will be made on the research and intervention, providing emphasis to the feelings experienced throughout the process.
