Abstract:
The object of this research is the composition of the suppliers of a project-oriented transport and forwarding company. The work is aimed at determining the composition of the suppliers of a project-oriented transport and forwarding company, the purpose of which is to obtain a synergistic effect, which manifests itself in reducing the costs of performing individual operations of the transport process while meeting local requirements for each project. This study proposes an optimization model that allows to determine the composition of suppliers of a project-oriented organization in order to obtain the maximum systemic effect – a synergistic effect. The proposed approach is based on the creation of a virtual project management office, the work of which is based on the corresponding information system. The proposed model is a flexible tool that allows to quickly form the composition of suppliers of a project-oriented company. The model is developed for the service sector and, in particular, for the transport industry, where suppliers are not responsible for material objects, resources, but for services, the set of which forms the essence of the project. Thus, the product of the project and its parameters in such a situation are directly formed due to the specifics of suppliers and the parameters of their services. For the transport industry, this approach has not been used before and can serve as a theoretical basis for building a project-oriented management system in the transport sector. The synergistic effect taken as a basis in this model provides the greatest difference between the «declared» delivery costs and the «actual» ones, which are formed taking into account the amount of work for all projects. Since the freight forwarding company is the «holder» of the portfolio of all deliveries/projects, a certain part of the synergy effect can be used to reduce delivery costs for customers in order to increase competitiveness and attractiveness. Experimental studies have substantiated the reliability of the results of the developed model and confirmed its practical applicability. This model is quite universal and can be supplemented with restrictions that take into account the specifics of a project-oriented organization, its projects and requirements for suppliers.

Abstract:
The possibility of using a balanced scorecard (BSS) system for assessing the activity of a project-oriented shipping company was explored. The structure of the BSS, which consists of three subsystems, is proposed: the main type of activity, the project activity, the related activity. Each subsystem is formed by a set of indicators, which describe the data of the subsystem. «Main type of activity» and «Project type of activity» are considered in the following directions: the personnel section, the organizational section, the production section, the marketing section and the financial section. «Project activity» consists of the essence of the project, resources, risks, the efficiency, the quality. It was offered to consider the project-oriented shipping company as a system in the dynamics of its development. Proceeding from this, a model of cause-effect relationships between the subsystems of the balanced scorecard system was developed, considering the development objectives of the shipping company at each stage of its life cycle. Five stages are distinguished: birth, becoming, maturity, aging, rebirth or extinction.

Abstract:
This study considers an agile model for the organization of activities of a project-oriented transport company. Building a project-oriented company (project-oriented management) requires an appropriate theoretical base. The agile model of transport company operation has been developed, for which the cycles have been determined, the content of each cycle has been defined, and the flow of information has been simulated. The transformation of information in each cycle of the model has been characterized, taking into consideration the operational specificity of transport companies’ activities. A given model was compared to the main stages of a project’s lifecycle. Two indicators have been proposed such as the degree of project uniqueness and the degree of project complexity that reflect the corresponding project characteristics. The complexity of the project’s operational activities refers to the number of elements and their alternatives. Part of the project is an «operation» that forms a unit of the project’s network schedule. The uniqueness of the project of operational activities means the difference between the current project and other projects, already implemented or is being implemented by the company. The estimation formulae for these indicators have been derived. The proposed indicators for the given example have been calculated; the interpretation of the results has been proposed. The calculation results have demonstrated the adequacy of input-output data and the practical applicability of these indicators. These metrics are not limited to the context of an additional project specification. Their level is proposed to be used in the processes of estimating the time of individual project periods and the agile model’s cycles within the initial stage ‒ creating a product concept model and preparing for implementation. In addition, these indicators could be used effectively for employee remuneration.

Abstract:
Introduction. Analysis of existing foreign and Russian project management maturity models revealed the absence of tools for assessing the maturity of project management, which would take into account the specifics of the functioning of engineering companies and the implementation of engineering projects. The uniformity of such models limits the list of evaluated aspects of project management, which does not allow to fully cover the project management processes operating in engineering companies. Such processes should include engineering, management of intangible assets, control and acceptance of the results of engineering works, management of construction and installation works, and so on. To solve the problem, it is necessary to develop special tools for the assessment and development of project management, which will take into account engineering-specific processes. The toolkit will allow to quantify the degree of implementation of the project approach to the activities of an engineering company and to plan the continuous improvement of the processes and tools of project management in it. The subject of the research is the development of tools for assessing and developing project-oriented management in a full-cycle engineering company. Materials and methods. Applied the method of comparative analysis, survey method and method of semi-structured interviews. Results. The article formulates the features of project management in engineering companies. The main types of maturity models of project management are considered, their distinctive features are revealed. Tools for the evaluation and development of project management for the Russian engineering company full cycle are formulated. The assessment of the levels of formalization of project management processes was carried out, their current and target states were determined. Set of measures for the development of processes and tools of project management is planned. Conclusions. The toolkit for project management evaluation and development proposed in the article allows to carry out structural analysis of project management processes and the level of their formalization, to implement improvements based on the results of evaluation not only in the engineering company under consideration, but also in project-oriented organizations implementing similar projects.

Abstract:
Today, development is an integral part of the life of any company, including advertising. A distinctive feature of project-oriented companies is that they implement development activities through projects and programs, as well as apply a project approach to the implementation of current production advertising activities. Speaking of advertising, one should not forget that in the event of advertising on computer networks has become commonplace. Network advertising is not inferior to television, radio, or newspaper. With us, advertising on the networks is a new thing. In this study, it is accepted that during the entire life cycle, the advertising company/business develops either along the path of progress or the path of regression (the second half of the life cycle). For example, for a multidisciplinary company, some advertising businesses, reducing the size of existing advertising businesses, restructuring, etc., i.e. measures of regressive nature, can be aimed at positive qualitative changes – for better adaptation to the market, for higher competitiveness due to faster response to changes in the environment and etc. Thus, the entire life cycle of the company is a process of development, which is provided in the form of a sequence of advertising projects and programs of development of advertising business. And today, many companies, including the advertising industry, can be identified as project-oriented.

Abstract:
Cross-company networking and counseling is considered to be a promising approach for workplace health promotion in small and medium-sized enterprises. However, a systematic and empirical approach on how such networks can be developed is lacking. The aims of the present paper are to describe the approach of a social network analysis supporting the development of a cross-company network promoting physical activity and to present first results. In the process of developing the methodological approach, a common understanding of the nodes and edges within the project was elaborated. Based on the BIG-model as the theoretical framework of the project, five measuring points and an application-oriented data collection table were determined. Using Gephi, network size, degree, and distance measures, as well as density and clustering measures, were calculated and visualized in the course of the time. First results showed a continuous expansion and densification of the network. The application experience showed that the application of social network analysis in practical cross-company network development is promising but currently still very resource intensive. In order to address the current major challenges and enable routine application, the development of an application-oriented and feasible tool could make an essential contribution.

Abstract:
This article analyses the possibilities of the practical utilization of Critical Chain Project Management methodology. Our study analyzed key processes related to the implementation and utilization of such a tool in a concrete company. For this purpose an original program was created. The logic of this program is based on the fundamental principles of the CCPM methodology. The impetus for the design and creation of such a program stemmed from the almost non-existence of such a tool on the Czech market. The theoretical part of the article focuses concisely on the Theory of Constraints and Critical Chain principles, which the conceptual ideas of all algorithms included in the new program come from. The system was used for two years and it enabled the processing of requests significantly faster than before. The evaluation of economical and practical benefits based on real project data demonstrates that after implementation of the Appello system and corresponding rules of usage, project managers completed more tasks in the first year than in the previous two years in which the CCPM was not applied and nearly 85% of planned requests were either on time or delayed up to 30 days in comparison with the amount of work from the preceding two years.Currently, a significant number of project oriented companies are looking for competitive advantages which, allow for the mastering of the largest number of projects that have a delivery time specified within agreed time frames. The use of our system or similar ones designed according to CCMP rules fully ensures the fulfilment of such requirements.

The following work presents a methodology of determining the economic value of the data owned by a company in a given time period. The ability to determine the value of data at any point of its lifecycle, would make it possible to study the added value that data gives to a company in the long term. Not only external data should be considered but also the impact that the internal data can have on company revenues. The project focuses on data-driven companies, which are different to the data-oriented ones, as explained below. Since some studies affirm that data-driven companies are more profitable, the indirect costs of using those data must be allocated somewhere to understand their financial value14 and to present a possible alternative for measuring the financial impact of data on the revenue of companies.

Abstract:
Abstract Eastern European companies have experienced various and radical transformations, as resultof the economic crises and turbulences, which exposed structural weaknesses. In the meantime, long-term challenges - such as globalization, shift of power centers from the nationallevel to international structures or scarcity of resources - intensify. Given this context, it ismandatory for companies to develop strategies aiming at being competitive. The paper aims to propose an exploratory analysis regarding a Swedish-Finnish ownedcompany active in Romania - that was capable to build a strategic vision of its future, todefine a plan for change and to implement the necessary measures for the project success. The author has conducted a study and developed a case along a project aiming at continuousimprovement (Kaizen) in this company, emphasizing its main results. In order to analyzethe project of implementing Kaizen methodology, the research initiative consisted both ofprimary and secondary research. The paper analyzes the project from the point of view ofeconomic situation of the company and environment, time constraints, budget limitations, technical level/quality performance and risks. The central finding is that concept-oriented projects run by an advanced-country companycould succeed in a less economically developed and culturally different country - even inturbulent periods and not even in highly dynamic and technologically advanced industries- if the top management is strongly committed and management team completely involved. The paper concludes with study results, as well as some lessons learnt and managerialimplications - useful for future similar projects either within the company under debate orby other organizations in similar circumstances.

Considerable pressure on quality of the business processes, their continual improvement and increasing of their efficiency is reflected in the requirements on graduates of technical universities and hence the educational systems. According to the industrial sector demand the "process" holistic thinking is being more and more discussed. It emphasizes the practical form of the teaching. The current challenge is becoming the Problem Based Learning (PBL) and its potential to gain truly practical experience in solving problematic tasks. PBL is thus getting involved into the teaching plans of more schools. The paper briefly discusses the innovative educational concept of "Learning Company" (EduCom). The concept is based on the current requirements of the industry on recruited employees and introduces the elements of problem-oriented teaching. The aim is to link the selected tutorials into a single project where the outputs of one course are the inputs of another course. The paper describes the existing experience with introducing the concept, its benefits, but also the problems that workers encountered. The planned activities for the development of the described concept will be mentioned as well.

Abstract:
Purpose – The aim of this paper is to establish the differences between the food and beverages (F&B) and technology-based industries with regards to the relation between previously identified success factors and innovation project performance. Design/methodology/approach – These differences are established on the basis of logistic regression analysis, using 38 innovation projects (18 F&B and 20 technology-based). Findings – Newness of the innovation project to the company, communication capabilities and market potential have a more negative impact on innovation project performance in the F&B than the tech-based industry. Especially functional upstream capabilities increase the likelihood of success in F&B, when compared to tech-based innovation projects. Practical implications – While functional upstream capabilities are important for success of F&B innovation projects, there is still room for improvement in order to deal effectively with newness of the innovation project to the company. Internalization of resources from the network and a balanced radical/incremental innovation project portfolio contribute to additional enhancement of functional capabilities of the F&B companies, improving their capacity to deal with newness. Through a larger focus on co-innovation with retail, F&B companies can improve their intra- and inter-firm communication capabilities to attain more consumer-oriented integration of R&D and marketing activities, improving the market potential of their innovations. Originality/value – This paper demonstrates that the previously identified critical success factors for innovation projects differ in impact and importance for F&B innovation project performance when compared to innovation projects in the technology-based industry.

Abstract:
Suppliers have been recognised as critical sources for innovation in the literature. However, less consideration has been given to the suppliers’ viewpoint on what motivates them to share their best knowledge with the buying company. Here, we empirically identified ways to increase suppliers’ willingness to contribute to the buyer’s innovation process, in complex and regulated business environments, where the buyer is highly innovation oriented, but simultaneously reliant on external resources in R&D. The paper is based on an in depth embedded case study, with dyadic data collection. The data was collected during 18 semi-structured interviews at the case company, in the nuclear power industry, and its three key suppliers of mechanical engineering and manufacturing. The results show that mutual understanding of each counterparts’ interests and business, systematic project and knowledge management practices, a proper balance between project control and freedom to innovate and buyer’s sufficient technical know-how are decisive for successful supplier innovation. Furthermore, suppliers can be highly committed to collaboration event though they are not fully satisfied with the buyer. Six propositions are presented based on the empirical findings and the enfolding theory.

Abstract:
The untapped potential of workplace health promotion (WHP) in smaller companies and the promising approach to promote physical activity in the workplace requires application-oriented approaches. This study describes the participatory, theory-based development of a cross-company network with a multicomponent intervention for promoting physical activity in smaller companies. The BIG-Manual (from the “Movement as an Investment for Health” project, German—BIG) was the theoretical framework for developing the cross-company network. Qualitative and quantitative data sources were used to identify the requests and requirements of stakeholders (employees on site, local exercise providers, company representatives and network partners) regarding measures promoting physical activity and the cross-company network. The methods applied included two workshops (n = 13; n = 15), individual semi-structured interviews (n = 8) and a survey (n = 285). The analysis revealed that a large number of stakeholders must be taken into consideration for physical activity promotion in cross-company networks. Many similarities between the requests of employees and further stakeholders concerning a multicomponent intervention for promoting physical activity could be identified. Present gender-specific and physical activity-related differences show the importance of target group-specific intervention planning in the context of WHP. This study makes an important contribution for the development of future cross-company networks promoting physical activity and yields valuable information for the design of a multicomponent intervention promoting physical activity.

AbstractThere is already a wide acceptance on the importance of involving supplier and customer companies in product development. Decent understanding prevails on the relationship-oriented approach to product development including various collaboration forms. However, there is less research on the factors explaining the decision of attending to joint product development. In addition, less studies have examined the integrated role of both suppliers and customers in product development initiatives. This study searches answers to the following research questions: 1. What is the role of different actors in product development initiatives? 2. What factors motivate suppliers and customers to participate in product development? The research is carried out as an in-depth qualitative single case study in a large project manufacturing company. It takes the perspective of a focal company striving for product improvements. The first part of the empirical study consists of 15 semi-structured interviews. The second part includes two discursive workshops and builds upon the results of the interviews. This study contributes to the existing research by explaining the challenges and conditions facilitating joint product development with supplier and purchaser companies. The results highlight the role of customers in improving the effectiveness of product development. As a practical contribution, the paper reports the application of workshop method as a facilitator of collaboration between supplier, purchaser (focal company) and customer companies.

Abstract In the 1980’s Canada’s nuclear technology company, Atomic Energy Canada Limited (AECL), designed and attempted to sell a next-generation, small-scale nuclear reactor called the Slowpoke Energy System (SES). AECL pursued export markets for the SES, of which the most promising was South Korea. The SES project was forced to compete for funding and this necessitated the formation of partnerships with private and public sector agents in South Korea. AECL’s experience in South Korea suggests that crown corporations are more commercially oriented than established policy scholarship admits, and that in some cases competitive forces work to blunt innovation rather than reward it.

Abstract:
This article is devoted to the risk analysis of IT projects. The article defines the risks of IT projects, classifies the key risks of IT projects and identifies the main sources of risks of IT projects. The analysis of risks of IT projects at introduction of information management system in realization of projects of the company is also presented. The possibility of risks of IT projects during the implementation of the management information system in the implementation of the company's projects is analyzed. And also the ways of minimization of occurrence of risks of IT projects at introduction of information management system in realization of projects of the company are offered. Under ideal circumstances, in modern organizations, project implementation reduces risks to zero. At the same time, in modern realities, it remains necessary to take into account risks and manage them as part of the organization when implementing projects. Nevertheless, risk minimization is effective for the dynamic growth of an organization or institution when implementing projects. The current trends in information projects in today's competitive world are fundamental and necessary for any project-oriented organization to manage risks in information outsourcing projects in an ideally complex task. Thus, this article examines the main factors that lead to the emergence of risks, based on modern scientific sources from leading researchers in the field of project management, taking into account the peculiarities of developing an optimal risk management system in an organization when implementing projects, as well as the implementation of such a system under various scenarios of projects’ implementation in organizations. A structure aimed at improving the risk management system in organizations during project implementation is also proposed. The study found that prioritization in the consideration of project risks, as well as risk factors, helps to correlate the risk of the project and the risk of the company itself. Prioritizing the response to risk factors and their strength of influence, considering the time, volume and quality of risks are of paramount importance for the dynamic growth of the organization and allow to conduct a matrix analysis of risks, and then propose ways to minimize risk.

The current paper presents a methodology of archiving dies and molds CAD projects to quickly and easily find relevant parts from them based on clearly defined criteria. In a die and mold design workshop, existing projects from the archive are a very important source of ideas for ongoing or future projects, given the possibility to quickly access them. The proposed methodology is implemented in a distributed application. In principle the archiving process consists in filling a form with the project parameters. When engineers are searching for an archived project they inform the system about the characteristics they are looking for and the application returns the relevant projects and their location. The application is written in VB.NET and follows an object oriented approach. Being designed to connect to a database located on the network, it can be used by more companies in common or by the same company subsidiaries found in different locations.

Abstract:
International companies are more and more seeking to act proactively by proposing In-Country Value (ICV) strategies to create sustainable local values in the host countries in which they carry out projects. Still, such sustainable local values are complex to identify because they are often indirectly related to their own value chains, project activities, and outcomes. There are, therefore, both theoretical and industrial needs to model and estimate sustainable values brought by complex projects in host countries, considering direct and indirect effects. In this paper, a systems thinking-based approach combined with a frequency analysis first permitted to build up a model of the sustainable values created by the project in a host country. Then, after underlining the complexity of such a model, a Domain Mapping Matrix (DMM) approach was proposed to help build a process to estimate project impacts in terms of ICV creation. An application to a case study built up with an industrial practitioner (an oil and gas company) permitted to test and validate the overall model and approach. It notably showed how such a model permitted to facilitate discussions among stakeholders and laid the foundations of ICV creation-oriented decision-making processes.

Processes generate results that the company provides to its customers. Customers outcomes and processes are connected in dependable interaction. The capacity of the company to provide results that customers expect, largely depends on how well managers or business analysts design and manage processes. A key factor to ensure sustainable achievement of the organization's business process management in industrial enterprises from Bulgaria, which inevitably requires continuous measurement of their effectiveness. Ideally, the measurement must be linked to high company goals, to ensure that the processes are oriented towards these goals and assessed according to their contribution to achieving them. On the other side, measurements should be used to assess the performance of individual employees involved in the process. In other words, the high efficiency of the steps (taken as synonymous with the activities in the project context and modeling terminology using software tools) of processes should be rewarded. In a time when resources are more intangible, tangible shift as a tool for value creation, financial analysis of business becomes increasingly insufficient for the establishment of adequate assessment and prognosis. The new business reality provokes appearance of new methodologies to improve the management of business processes, and measuring and managing organizational performance.

Abstract:
Simultaneous engineering (SE) has been developed by large multinational companies working in consumer oriented industries. This has meant that the implementation methods, tools and techniques have been geared towards these industries. 600 Lathes is a medium-sized company engaged in the manufacture of a variety of machine tools. The application of an SE approach in such environments requires the adaptation of its generic principles. The initial use of SE on a new machine tool, the Tornado lathe, indicated the need for procedures to institutionalize this new method of working. A critical analysis of SE identified four generic principles that were used as a framework for product introduction. Procedures were developed drawing on organizational communication theory and involving the users. The aim was to create procedures with company-wide acceptance that were user friendly and worked. These procedures were used for the introduction of a second range of lathes, named Alpha. Their effectiveness was studied as a crucial part of the Alpha project review. This evaluation showed that procedures based on practical experience are readily adopted. Each procedure was necessary and integral to SE. Any company wanting to implement SE must tackle similar issues. The generic principles of SE are proposed as the method for developing effective procedures.

This system ‘C_CTRL' is responsible for all necessary tasks, like sequencing, supervising, controlling of basic functions, error handling, and recording of statistic data. The control system is ‘self-generating' during program start-up – using hardware information from a simple ASCII configuration file. Regardless which and how many components used in a particular cell, there is no additional programming effort for generation of the entire control software.

AbstractUser-centric development is essential to any product development project, especially in order to keep up with today's ever-changing product cycle. This paper explores the potential of combining specific aspects of Scrum and Design Thinking to maximise user integration as well as implementing short iterations in hardware development projects, in this use case a three-month development project at a German high-end homeware manufacturer. In addition to observations regarding the application of those approaches this paper will then offer a range of newly developed user-centric methods to efficiently integrate the user's perspective in future development projects, as well as feedback from the product developers at the company and comparisons to current methods. This use case was furthermore able to illustrate how the employment of such methods made short and sprint-like development cycles within hardware development attainable. These user-centric methods developed within the use case can be applied to future application- and user- oriented projects in order to speed up the product development process and ensure that the product or service matches the users’ needs and desires.

ADVOCATE (Added Value for Oral Care) is a project funded by the European Commission’s Horizon 2020 program, which aims to develop strategies for a system transition toward more patient-centered and prevention-oriented oral health care delivery within health care systems. This system should balance the restorative and preventive approaches in dental and oral health care. ADVOCATE is a partnership among 6 European Union member states, which involves collaboration among universities, state-funded health care providers, and private insurance companies in Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and Aridhia, a biomedical informatics company based in Scotland. There are 6 interrelated work packages, which aim to address the following objectives: 1) in-depth evaluation of oral health care systems in European Union member states to identify best system designs for oral disease prevention, 2) development of a set of measures to provide information on oral care delivery and oral health outcomes, 3) evaluation of a feedback approach in dental practice that aims to facilitate a change toward preventive oral health care delivery, and 4) economic evaluation of strategies to promote preventive oral health care and development of policy recommendations for oral health care systems. The project is novel in its use of data that are routinely collected by health insurance organizations, as well as the engagement of key stakeholders from dental teams, insurers, patients, and policy makers in guiding the development and progress of the project. This article outlines in detail the objectives and research methodology of the ADVOCATE project and its anticipated impact. Knowledge Transfer Statement: This commentary describes the development of policy options to promote a greater focus on disease prevention in general dental practice. The approach builds on identifying the comparative effectiveness of alternative incentive schemes, as well as methods to monitor clinical and patient-derived measures of success in creating health for patients. The article describes the development and application of the measures and the evaluation of their success in orienting clinical practice more toward disease prevention.
