Abstract:
The article presents the results of a pilot study developed by the authors of the projective test “Congruity and Advantages”. The research aims to study the main psychometric attributes of the test. The selection included 68 subjects of both genders at the age over 18. According to the study results, from the point of view of substantive validity, determined by the Delphic method, the “Congruity and Advantages” Test allows assessing the severity of two characteristics of the subjects: 1) subject's possible preferences of behavior aimed at acquiring advantages, 2) subject's preference of behavior aimed at matching one's choice with the interests of other people and/or circumstances. Criterion validity of the test is defined as sufficiently high. On an advantage scale R Spearman = 0,77 (at р<0,0001). On a scale of congruity of their behavior with others Spearman R =0,68 (at р<0,0001). Retest reliability after the study by the methods of rank correlation indicated R Spearman = 0,83 (at р<0,005). In addition, the monitoring results of the parties' tendency to violate agreements already reached reveal a significant correlation between the indicators of the “Congruity and Advantages” Test and the number of violations of agreements reached - Spearman R = 0,69 (at р=0,0001). Thus, the “Congruity and Advantages” Test can be practical in mediation as both to predict the tendency of the parties to harmonize their actions with others or to prefer their advantages, and to predict the probability of preserving agreements already reached.

Abstract:
Some accounts of presupposition projection predict that content's consistency with the Common Ground influences whether it projects (e.g., Heim 1983, Gazdar 1979a,b). I conducted an experiment to test whether Common Ground information about the speaker's social identity influences projection of clausal complement contents (CCs). Participants rated the projection of CCs conveying liberal or conservative political positions when the speaker was either Democrat- or Republican-affiliated. As expected, CCs were more projective when they conveyed political positions consistent with the speaker's political affiliation: liberal CCs were more projective with Democrat compared to Republican speakers, and conservative CCs were more projective with Republican compared to Democrat speakers. In addition, CCs associated with factive predicates (e.g., know) were more projective than those associated with non-factive predicates (e.g., believe). These findings suggest that social meaning influences projective meaning and that social meaning is constrained by semantic meaning, in line with previous research on the relation between other levels of linguistic structure/perception and social information.

Abstract:
Textbook discussions of the autokinetic effect often mention that this illusory movement is susceptible to suggestion. Several recently published perception texts have presented the autokinetic effect as a potential projective technique, because it is claimed that the light will write out words if the observer expects it to. The accounts in these textbooks are misleading; in a study we conducted, as well as in the original study cited by the texts, the modal event across a series of trials was a failure to see the suggested “writing” movement.

Abstract:

Starting from the epistemology of complexity and subjectivity, a new instrument has been devised to investigate the subjective ways in which experiences are self referred at the level of immediate experience. The construction and validation process of the Post-Rationalist Projective Reactive (PRPR) are described, the first cognitive post-rationalist projective tool. It investigates Personal Meaning Organizations (PMOs) according to the adaptive and evolutionary post-rationalist approach.

Using 20 stimulus tables, it allows respondents to go deeper into the specific narrative plots of their personality and to understand their inner film, to focus on their subjective feelings. PRPR was administered to a cohort of 294 subjects. A Reliability Analysis and a Cluster Analysis were carried out.

Cluster analysis identified four clusters that overlapped with the theoretical PMOs description. PRPR pictures showed good internal consistency as Reliability Analysis. Significant convergent validity correlations were found with the results of the Mini Questionnaire of Personal Organization (MQPO; r = .71, p < .001) and of clinical interviews (r = .76, p < .001).

The PRPR proved to be both a valuable support for the PMO construct and an effective assessment tool capable of delving into the processes of subjective meaning construction to understand the cognitive organizational closure, reducing the distance between immediate experience and its explanations.

Abstract:
In a ‘projective’ test of the golden section hypothesis (Benjafield & Adams-Webber, 1976), 24 Canadian high school students (9 girls and 15 boys), ages 18–19, completed a repertory grid in which they categorized themselves and ten comic strip characters (e.g., Fred Flintstone) on the basis of twelve bipolar constructs (e.g., generous-mean). The overall proportion of cartoon figures which they assigned to the positive poles of constructs (e.g., generous) was 0.615, which is very close to the golden section (approximately 0.618). The theoretical implications of this result and some related findings were discussed in terms of Lefebvre's (1987) computational model of human reflection, Benjafield and Green's (1978) ‘Fibonacci decision rule’ and Berlyne's (1971) ‘strikingness hypothesis’

The Hand Test was administered to 60 institutionalized mentally retarded adults (36 men and 24 women) ranging in age from 19 to 69 yr. who resided in a residential facility. Six weeks later the subjects were again administered the test by the same examiner. Significant correlations between test-retest administrations were found. The results suggest that the projective Hand Test possesses sufficient reliability to be used clinically with institutionalized mentally retarded adults.

Abstract:
As a method to derive a “purified” measure along a dimension of interest from response data that are potentially multidimensional in nature, the projective item response theory (PIRT) approach requires first fitting a multidimensional item response theory (MIRT) model to the data before projecting onto a dimension of interest. This study aims to explore how accurate the PIRT results are when the estimated MIRT model is misspecified. Specifically, we focus on using a (potentially misspecified) two-dimensional (2D)-MIRT for projection because of its advantages, including interpretability, identifiability, and computational stability, over higher dimensional models. Two large simulation studies (I and II) were conducted. Both studies examined whether the fitting of a 2D-MIRT is sufficient to recover the PIRT parameters when multiple nuisance dimensions exist in the test items, which were generated, respectively, under compensatory MIRT and bifactor models. Various factors were manipulated, including sample size, test length, latent factor correlation, and number of nuisance dimensions. The results from simulation studies I and II showed that the PIRT was overall robust to a misspecified 2D-MIRT. Smaller third and fourth simulation studies were done to evaluate recovery of the PIRT model parameters when the correctly specified higher dimensional MIRT or bifactor model was fitted with the response data. In addition, a real data set was used to illustrate the robustness of PIRT.

Abstract:
A novel mathematical model of imaging on idealized optical system has been proposed based on the principle of camera imaging. The correlation between the object and image space is analyzed in the established model. The reason for projective distortion is that the inconstant amplification ratio, and is with nonlinear relationship with the tilt angle and filed of view. Concepts of positive projective and negative projective distortion are defined, and a quantitative study has been carried out. The distribution of the projective distortions is provided after analysis. The proposed model has been used to explain the measurement inaccuracy in our aerial photo topography, and to find the essential difference between 2-D projective and affine correspondences in photogrammetry. The mature projective correspondence is successfully adopted to improve our aerial test and measurement precision.

We propose statistical image analysis for psychological projective drawings to facilitate assessing the reliability of the projective drawing making the determination of its validity difficult. Standard analysis involves (1) drawing a picture, (2) scanning the drawing, (3) dividing the drawing, (4) analyzing the gray level histogram moment (GLHM), (5) applying spatial gray level dependence method (SGLDM), (6) applying the gray level difference method (GLDM) for the drawing, and (7) interpreting the drawing. To demonstrate the proposed procedure, we used the tree test (Baum test). Three adults were presented with blank A4 paper and asked to draw a picture of a tree with fruit on it. Drawings were analyzed by statistical image analysis and results interpreted clinically.

The projective test is not only helpful to find the potential psychological crisis, but also to overcome the language barrier and make up for the deficiency of the questionnaire test to a certain extent. In this study, 403 college students (205 Tibetan students and 198 Han students) from a national college were selected to test their mental health with Symptom Checklist-90 (SCL-90) and House-Tree-Person test (HTP).By comparing the results of questionnaire test and drawing projection test, it is found that SCL-90 and HTP test are significantly related to the positive screening results of four factors: Somatization, Depression, Anxiety and Phobic Anxiety. Both HTP test and SCL-90 test results show that the scores of Somatization, Depression, Anxiety and Phobic Anxiety of Tibetan and Han college students were significantly different; the scores of Anxiety and Phobic Anxiety of different gender college students were significantly different. Using HTP test as a supplementary test of questionnaire test can effectively improve the accuracy of screening.

Abstract:
Child abuse reporting laws have placed new demands upon law enforcement, human service agencies, and clinicians alike. For the clinician, these demands are compounded when minority children are involved. Few of the standardized measures seem to fit all cultural groups. In our situation the cultural mix involves Hispanic, Mexican, and American Indian children. We found a combination of two projectives, the Draw-A-Person/Draw-A-Family and the Thematic Apperception Test, to fit our multicultural needs. Specifically, we use the D-A-P drawings of the child and his/her family as “plates” and then apply the TAT “tell me a story about this picture” technique.

Abstract:
Projective stories possess some advantages in comparison to the questionnaires. They provide considerable amount of additional information about subjects’ current state and the motives. Nevertheless, they are also not free from the effects of censorship and social desirability. The list of content analysis scales in this study was the following: 1) “Affiliation”, 2) “Frustration of Affiliation”, 3) “Long-term relationships”, 4) “Rivalry”, 5)”Loyalty”, 6) “Achievement”, 7) “Hope”, 8) “Egoistic benefit”, 9) “Impulse control”, 10) “Struggle of motives”, 11) “Negative emotions”, 12) “Negative events”, as well as the three scales for detection of desire to avoid projection: a)”Abandon of the task” (stories shorter than 20 words), b) “Description”, c) «Either, or». Also some of the indicators were adopted: “Fear to live” – sum of “Negative events” and “Negative emotions” scales; “Hardness” that is subtraction of “Negative emotions” from “Negative events”; “General avoidance of projection” that is the sum of “Abandon”, “Description” and “Either, or”. Validity of the scales was checked and proofed through the multiple comparisons within the three samples: students of Humanities, students of the Moscow Aviation University and MosEmerCom dispatchers. Abstract:
In the article, the authors try to determine the features of the application of the projective test «I met a stranger” or». Meeting a person with special individual characteristics” to study the ostracizing tendencies of the individual. Particular attention is paid to the consideration of ostracism or social rejection, which lead to devastating results in both individual and social well-being. The article is devoted to social isolation, which is an effective means of social punishment, as ostracized individuals cannot take advantage of group efforts and diagnose the existence of ostracizing manifestations, using projective tools. Attention is paid to the peculiarities and regularities and prospects of application of the projective test “I met a stranger” in the methodology of diagnostic tools of ostracism. Peculiarities of diagnostics of ostracizing tendencies of an individual with the help of projective technique «Meeting of a person with special individual characteristics», which acts as a multifunctional tool depending on the goals and methodology of studying the projective components of the image of an ostracized person. It is pointed out that depending on the purposes of modifications of the method it is possible to study: stereotypical perception of strangers, who in turn act as ostracizers, when in the process of analysis the image is studied – another in the public consciousness. The second most important functional load for us is the reflection of the structure of the relationship between the two objects of interaction and the dyad (alien – not alien). The attention paid to the specifics of this test, so sufficient abstract and vague instructions leave enough space for the manifestation and modeling of individual situations of the meeting, so an important component is a post-picture interview. If the interview shows manifestations of fear and a high level of ostracized tendencies on the scales of the methodology, it can be argued about ostracism. It was found that the irrational fear of «foreign» persons is determined using the method of «Meeting with a» foreign «person», and makes it possible to analyze the protective strategies that actually reinforce this psychological phenomenon. There are a number of questions and a protocol, which reflects the main questions of the psychologist related to the general description of the picture. It is concluded that to effectively study the trends of social rejection of people with special individual manifestations, using the projective test «I met a stranger» should take into account: how often portray a person with special individual manifestations and other people around him, random ordinary, himself with someone from acquaintances; the activities of the people depicted in the figure; additional details in the picture, objects that are needed to interact with a person with characteristic individual manifestations. We see further consideration of this problem in the creation of new tools for studying the tendencies of individuals to ostracize people with characteristic individual manifestations, using projective methods.

Abstract:
This article highlights, on the one hand, the relevance of the Projective Kit for Early Childhood – a projective play test – in the dual prospect of research practice, and of clinical practice, on the other hand, considering a form of continuity between both these processes, as stressed by C. Chabert (1995 ). First, a brief introduction to this unique test in the field of psychopathology in young children serves to assess the relevance of this projective device in clinical practice and research. Then we successively present the test’s implications in actual clinical research, involving an evaluation of the psychoaffective dynamics of children with West syndrome (a form of epilepsy occurring in infants from the early stages of life, which impairs their development and frequently leads to psychopathological pictures in the autism spectrum) and as part of a clinical consultation process focused on the problem of depression.
