Abstract:

Abstract:
This contribution examines the so-called ZAD of Notre-Dame-des-Landes, a municipality near the city of Nantes in the Western French department Loire-Atlantique. Officially, the abbreviation ZAD stands for the term “designated development area”, zone d’aménagement différé. For decades the site was intended to be the building zone of a large airport project. The opponents of this infrastructure project reinterpreted the abbreviation ZAD: in their understanding and common parlance it means zone to defend- zone à défendre. Within the scope of large-scale protest against the airport project the site had been occupied since 2009. The article examines whether and to what extent the occupied ZAD of Notre-Dame-des-Landes could be described as a socially critical threshold space. In this context it seeks to explore the socio-critical potential and its spatial components with reference to geographical characteristics, location and ideas related aspects as well as action-related factors. The contribution refers to the situation in the first half of the year 2015, before the official abandonment of the airport project and the evacuation of the site. Due to the high dynamic of the developments within the ZAD the findings discussed in this article should be regarded as a “snapshot”.

Abstract:
The corpus of Malaysian literature representing Indonesia is quite large. From this corpus, the study chooses poetry as its genre. Applying the border aesthetics project of the Arctic University of Norway, it investigates how changing perceptions of borders relate to shifting practices of aesthetic evaluation. Two major poets who have lived and studied in Indonesia and returned are chosen. They are Baha Zain, who studied at Universitas Indonesia between 1970-1972, and Siti Zainon who studied in ASRI Jogja (1972-1974) and later lived and researched in Aceh. Both poets have written poems about Indonesia from fresh experiences or used these as vehicles into themselves. Their works were more dynamic, more thoughtful and benefitted from a comparative stance. Their language was enriched and became more colourful. Though what they experienced may be described as difficult, the final analysis, they portray themselves as friends of the country, since they participated and became part of its life and tragedies. They grew and matured with Indonesia. And it is through these many quite exceptional experiences that they interlinked the history, literatures, and writers of Indonesia and Malaysia . Keywords: Malaysian poet, border aesthetic, Baha Zain, Siti Zainon Ismail, Indonesia, Malaysia Abstrak Korpus sastera Malaysia yang memerikan Indonesia agak besar. Abstract:

Abstract:
This study investigated impact of Gomal Zam Dam (GZD) irrigation project on agriculture and welfare of farm households in Southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The study found immense effect of the project on increase in cultivated area and yield of wheat and gram crops, and diversification of traditional cropping pattern to commercialized farming with the addition of sugarcane and vegetables. The availability of irrigation water also induced cultivation of fodder crops which enabled farmers to add large ruminants to their livestock herds. All these changes resulted improvement in farmers’ welfare and development in project area. There are various post project needs which are equally important for long term success. The most important of these needs are training of farmers on water use efficiency; provision of technical assistance on using high yielding seed varieties, chemical fertilizers and pesticides; and provision of credit and subsidies for dairy farming.

Abstract:
The objectives of the “Settlement history of Iraqi Kurdistan” project include the identification and recording of archaeological sites and other heritage monuments across an area of more than 3000 km2 located on both banks of the Greater Zab river, north of Erbil. A full survey of the western bank was carried out over three field seasons, in 2013, 2014 and 2015 (leaving the Erbil/Haūler province to be studied in the next two seasons). To date, at least 147 archaeological sites dating from the early Neolithic Hassuna culture to late Ottoman times have been registered. Moreover, the project documented 39 architectural monuments, as well as the oldest rock reliefs in Mesopotamia dating from the mid 3rd millennium BC, located in the village of Gūnduk. Altogether 91 caves and rock shelters were visited in search of Paleolithic and Pre-Pottery Neolithic remains. The paper is an interim assessment of the results halfway into the project, showing the trends and illuminating gaps in the current knowledge.

Abstract:
The paper deals with an application of the network (dichotomous) programming method for solving multi-extremal problems and discrete optimization problems. The concept of a generalized dual problem is introduced and a theorem on its convexity is proved. Network programming method is used to build a business-forming project portfolio as well as an algorithm for solving completely dependent related projects is developed. Also, this method is used to solve the problem of building a business-supporting project portfolio for which the lower cost estimate is obtained. A computational experiment is carried out to evaluate the suggested algorithm, which showed that for large dimensions of the problem it is more effective than for solving the problem by linear programming methods.

Abstract:
Abstract There is widespread agreement that the so-called ‘Brexit’ – the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union – is a fundamentally populist project. However, the language of the public face of this project, Prime Minister Theresa May, has not, so far, been studied with respect to populist speech patterns. This paper presents a series of quantitative case studies aimed at closing this research gap. The first study attempts to identify evidence of populist speech patterns by means of a keyword analysis, the second study looks at the phrase the (British) people, the third study at the phrase the will of the people, and the fourth at references to the past and the future. While these are based on a priori hypotheses about populist speech patterns, a fifth case study looks at the verb deliver and the noun deal, which are inductively identified as typical of May’s statements concerning Brexit, and shows how they allow May to construct a populist discourse without taking the role of the populist. All case studies are based on a dedicated corpus of almost 270,000 tokens consisting of speeches and other spoken and written statements by Theresa May.

Abstract:
The purpose of the research is to build an experimental reactor to study and optimize the production of biogas and its composition from energy crops and other materials of organic origin. An experimental reactor in a biogas plant was constructed for the anaerobic digestion of various substrates. With the experimental reactor, anaerobic digestion can be performed with the basic substrate of pig manure and in different compositions of the substrate. The substrate can be assembled in various combinations of energy crops. The method of construction of the experimental reactor was based on the standard method DIN 38 414, also with the mentioned method we produce biogas under normal conditions from various substrates. The process also determines the quality of biogas or methane content. The built biogas reactor is a reduced version of the economic reactor and serves to optimize the production of biogas in economic conditions.

Abstract:
- An important urban transformation was achieved in Paris with the redevelopment of the Bercy quarter. It was characterised by farsightedness and an ability to monitor and manage on the part of the public sector operators who guided the entire operation. While on the one hand the Bercy case presents a series of ‘extraordinary' elements deriving from the particular history of the site, the continuity with which the municipal administration moved forward with its strategic decisions, its capacity to frame those strategies in a broader and more complex context and the ways in which the entire process was implemented certainly constitute important factors on which to reflect in the framework of a more general discussion on the effectiveness and potentials of large urban projects. This paper looks at the main stages of the transformation starting with the framing of the operation within the provisions of the main urban planning instruments and it seeks to highlight the most significant aspects of the intervention with a particular focus on the outcomes of the project implemented.

Abstract:
The main goal of education is to prepare students for future job opportunities and civic responsibilities, and this is one of the biggest challenges in the 21st century. Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Project-Based Learning (PjBL) prepare students to master their new role as a global citizen with greater responsibilities. This systematic review analyzed 265 papers that are related to the STEM PjBL. The papers were collected from well-known databases such as Web of Science® and SCOPUS by using the quality assessment and relevant criteria. This study inspected the top 48 distinguished papers by covering three dimensions, Search result, Subject, and Research methodology. STEM and PjBL come together, due to the natural overlap between the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and PjBL. The fully integrated STEM with PjBL can increase the effectiveness of teaching. Nonetheless, this inspection uncovered that previous research has not fully integrated STEM with PjBL. Thus, despite the wealth of existing research, there are still significant opportunities for future research on STEM PjBL in high schools to prepare students for 21st century challenges. Keywords: Enhanced teaching and learning, 21st century skills, project-based learning STEM, systematic literature reviewsCite as: Jamali, S.M., Md Zain, A.N., Samsudin, M.A., & Ebrahim, N.A. Abstract:
In recent years, the intensification of drought and unsustainable management and use of water resources have caused a significant decline in the water level of the Urmia Lake in the northwest of Iran. This condition has affected the lake, approaching an irreversible point such that many projects have been implemented and are being implemented to save the natural condition of the Urmia Lake, among which the inter-basin water transfer (IBWT) project from the Zab River to the lake could be considered an important project. The main aim of this research is the evaluation of the IBWT project effects on the Gadar destination basin. Simulations of the geometrical properties of the river, including the bed and flow, have been performed, and the land cover and flood map were overlapped in order to specify the areas prone to flood after implementing the IBWT project. The results showed that with the implementation of this project, the discharge of the Gadar River was approximately tripled and the water level of the river rose 1 m above the average. In April, May, and June, about 952.92, 1458.36, and 731.43 ha of land adjacent to the river (floodplain) will be inundated by flood, respectively. Results also indicated that UNESCO’s criteria No. 3 (“a comprehensive environmental impact assessment must indicate that the project will not substantially degrade the environmental quality within the area of origin or the area of delivery”) and No. 5 (“the net benefits from the transfer must be shared equitably between the area of origin and the area of water delivery”) have been violated by implementing this project in the study area. The findings could help the local government and other decision-makers to better understand the effects of the IBWT projects on the physical and hydrodynamic processes of the Gadar River as a destination basin.

Abstract:
Sand is a common construction material used for various purposes, e.g., concrete, mortar, render, screed, and asphalt. The usage depends on its fineness, and its fineness is controlled by its mineralogical composition and physical-mechanical properties. This research aims to determine the chemical and mineralogical composition and the physical-mechanical properties of the Dasht-e-Taatrang Zar sand deposits within the Qarabagh and Bagram districts of Kabul and Parwan provinces in Afghanistan. To achieve the objectives of this research, a review of the existing literature has been combined with new extensive field works for macroscopic studies and sample collection, and laboratory analyses. In total, 23 samples during two phases of field works were collected and subjected to lab works for XRF, Schlich, and XRD analysis to determine the chemical and mineralogical composition; moreover, sieve and Atterberg analysis, specific gravity, soundness, and alkali-silica reaction tests were performed for characterization of the physical-mechanical properties of the studied samples. The results of the tests show that the Taatrang Zar sand deposits are considered as a suitable construction material, and due to their simple accessibility, the deposits have high potential as a construction material supplier for the Kabul new city project (Dehsabz) in Kabul and adjacent Parwan and Kapisa provinces.

Abstract:
The term "project financing" is often used to describe all types of project financing, but in recent years it has evolved towards a more precise definition, so that it implies the financing of a particular economic unit in which lenders are comfortable to rely initially on the cash flow and income of these economic units, which the loans will be repaid from, and on the property of that economic unit as collateral for the given loan. Project funds can be adequately used to finance the defense system. They generally fall into the category of development priorities and usually enjoy numerous benefits (primarily tax and customs benefits) provided by the host country of a project, which generally generates more income for participants in project financing than when it comes to conventional credit. The BOT model for financing infrastructure projects has a number of potential benefits and it is an effective alternative in many countries with a more traditional approach to using government borrowing or state budget, with the government retaining strategic control over the project which will become public sector property.

Abstract:
Abstract Conrad’s story “The Planter of Malata,” by focusing on the portrayal of Geoffrey Renouard, addresses the dilemmas of the modern self implicated in the subjectivist mode of experiencing the world. Heidegger’s reinterpretation of the Cartesian ego and his conceptualization of modern subjectivity provide a theoretical framework for clarifying the paradox of Renouard’s position which involves both demonstrations of mastery and gestures of submission in his interactions with Felicia Moorsom. The paper examines how the subject construes the world as representation and reduces the world to the object to be manipulated and controlled. Renouard’s experience of irrational desire and his loss of mastery, which lead to the collapse of the subject/object duality and the dissolution of representation, dismantle the project of the omnipotent ego. Eventually, the breakdown of the ego engenders a growing paralysis of will, enhances the lure of death-like stasis and culminates in Renouard’s suicide.

Abstract:
Abstract Starz’s Outlander and Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale follow the stories of two women as they come to terms with the new spaces they are forced to enter. In the series Claire Randall of Outlander and Offred of The Handmaid’s Tale are taken from one space and placed in a new, oppressive space dominated more heavily by patriarchal norms than the one they stem from. Offred and Claire display similarities when dealing with women’s issues such as motherhood and female sexuality. The series also highlight how women must deal with shifting times and discourses regarding societal expectations of women. Due to the complexities that Offred and Claire project when confronting challenges, both women are represented as ‘difficult’ women who defy hegemonic gendered norms of female representation on television. As they experience oppression, subjugation, empowerment, and rebellion, they develop as individuals, are far from perfect, have complicated pasts, and represent how women come to terms with convoluted identities.
