Abstract:
This article tries to reveal the cultural perspective of Japanese society on unlucky number, that is 4. Comprehending this phenomenon is needed by those who intend to cooperate or make relation with the Japanese in order to get better understanding. Library research and interview with native speakers of Japanese and Chinese are conducted in this research. The result shows that 4 is considered an unlucky number because linguistics link in the form of homophone or similarity of sound between the Japanese numeralia’s pronounciation of absorbed from Chinese, that is shi [ɕi] meaning ‘number 4’, and a Japanese root verb’s pronounciation shi [ɕi] of shinu [ɕinɯ] meaning ‘death’. Although today the number is often used in public, some Japanese still avoid it directly or indirectly. Direct avoidance is done by not using 4 or refusing anything related to the number. Indirect avoidance is done by using numeralia yon which is the synonym of shi, both of which mean 4.

Abstract The architecture of the tejocote (pronounciation: tehocote) - a Mexican fruit trees is described. There is a great morphological diversity among the tejocote clones growing in Germplasm Bank of the Autonomic University of Chapingo, Mexico. The common character of all hawthorns in this bank is that the inflorescence axis dies after shedding the reproductive parts (flowers or fruits) but remains on the tree, and the growth continues from the bud situated below the dead part. The growth and ramification habit were described as long shoots showing marked apical dominance and as the complex of shoots showing week apical dominance. The non-pruned trees of tejocote clones used as fruit trees form strong natural crown. The architecture of it is similar to the “Troll’s model” of Hallé and Oldeman (1970). Metamorphosis and reiteration are relatively frequent. The inflorescence structure was described, as well as the types of thorns in clones, which have thorns. Tejocote hawthorn may probably be an interesting fruit tree for countries with warm climate and a long dry period. It is also well adapted to shallow calcareous soils.

Abstract:
Abstract: BIPA students in Davao City - the Philippines mostly use Visaya in their daily lives. In addition, some of them are still affected by Spanish in the pronounciation of the sounds of the language. This is the main influence of pronounciation errors in Indonesian vocabulary. This research examines the pronunciation of vocabulary with diphthong and not diphthong in Bahasa Indonesia. The purpose of this analysis is to describe the mistakes of BIPA students in pronouncing diphthong double vowels and not diphthongs and to explain the solutions that can be done to minimize these errors. The method used is descriptive qualitative. The finding in this research is that there are errors in vocal pronunciation of double diphthong and not diphthong. As many as 96% recite the double diphthong correctly and 4% still pronounce incorrectly. 67% recite double vowels instead of diphthongs being diphthongs and 33% recite double vowels separately (read every letter in the final syllable). This happens because of three things. First, the influence of the Visaya language. Second, the influence of Spanish. Third, the presence of allophones in Indonesian vowels. These problems can be overcome in three ways. First, through spoken-syllable techniques. Second, through the technique of imitation. Third, through repeated words. Through this research, it is expected to be able to help BIPA students in reciting Indonesian vocabulary, especially duplicate vocabulary, so that pronunciation errors can be minimized. Pertama, pengaruh bahasa Visaya. Kedua, pengaruh bahasa Spanyol. Ketiga, adanya alofon dalam vokal rangkap bahasa Indonesia. Masalah-masalah tersebut dapat diatasi melalui tiga cara. Pertama, melalui teknik ucap – silabel. Kedua, melalui teknik ucap – tiru. Ketiga, melalui ucap – ulang. Melalui riset ini, diharapkan dapat membantu siswa BIPA dalam melafalkan kosa kata bahasa Indonesia, terutama kosa kata bervokal rangkap, sehingga kesalahan pelafalan dapat diminimalkan.
