Trichomonas vaginalisis the causal agent of trichomoniasis, which is associated with preterm child delivery, low birth weight, and an increased risk of infection by human papilloma virus and human immunodeficiency virus following exposure. Several reports have established increasing numbers of trichomoniasis cases resistant to metronidazole, the agent used for treatment, and it is therefore important to identify new therapeutic alternatives. Previously, our group reported the effect of tritrpticin, a synthetic peptide derived from porcine prophenin, onT. vaginalis; however, the hemolytic activ

Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are naturally occurring substances vital to the innate immune response against various pathogens. Over 4000 AMPs have been identified, with around 3000 sequences cataloged in databases, predominantly derived from animals and plants. They exhibit broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, classified based on their source, composition, and activity, including antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antiparasitic, and antitumor properties. AMPs can be synthesized either constitutively or in response to pathogens, interacting with microbial membranes to compr

ABSTRACT The antibacterial activities of the cathelicidin peptides LL-37 and an 18-residue C-terminal fragment of prophenin, corresponding to positions 62 to 79 of native prophenin (PF-18), were analyzed in the presence of a modified surfactant preparation isolated from minced porcine lungs. At low micromolar concentrations, both LL-37 and PF-18 showed significant activities against different serotypes of group B streptococci, with LL-37 being more active on a molar basis. The surfactant preparation at a concentration of 10 mg/ml partly blocked the antibacterial activity of 9 μM LL-37 and comp

Chalcone compounds and some n-hydroxychalcone compounds exhibit anti-inflammatory activity. Chalcone derivatives 1-(2,5-dihydroxyphenyl)-(3-pyridine-2-il)-propenone showed a stronger bond to the COX-2 enzyme than 1-(2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-3-pyridine-2-il-prophenone, 2′,5′-dihydroxychalcone, 4-chloro-2′, 4′-dihydroxichalcone, and several NSAIDs when they were tested for molecular docking computing using MOE software. Globally country bean (Lablab purpureus) is an excellent source of nutrients and an important delicious vegetable especially for the poor. But it is infested by various insects pests particularly leaf miner and leaf folder. A field experiment was conducted in RCBD from November 2021 to February 2022 to find out the potency of some novel formulated insecticides for managing the two major pests, leaf miners and leaf folders infesting BARI Shim-5 following RCBD.
