Abstract:
The prostatic abscess is a rare complication of a bacterial infection of the prostate. Since the early use of potent antibiotics to treat urinary tract infections, the incidence of the prostatic abscess has declined significantly. In keeping with that, prostatic abscess combined with abscesses in the spleen or other distant organs become an extremely rare but fatal clinical condition. Here, we present a case of prostate and spleen abscess due to multi-drug-resistant gram-negative bacilli without obvious risk factors. The patient initially complained of high-grade fever and dysuria. After scree

Xanthogranulomatous prostatitis is a rare benign inflammatory process of the prostate. Only few cases have been reported in the English literature. Xanthogranulomatous prostatitis is usually an incidental finding after needle biopsy or transurethral resection of the prostate in patients suffering from low urinary tract symptoms. We report the case of a 59-years-old patient diagnosed with prostatic abscess managed by transurethral resection of the prostate. Histopathological examination of resected prostatic tissue revealed abscessed xanthogranulomatous prostatitis with no evidence of malignanc

Here, we report a case of prostatic abscess probably due to malignant lymphoma of the prostate. An 82-year-old man was referred to our hospital with chief complaints of urinary frequency and discomfort on urination. Antibiotics were prescribed, but the symptoms remained and intermittent fever appeared. The patient was diagnosed with prostatic abscess by computed tomography (CT). Digital rectal examination (DRE) revealed soft prostate, and thick pus was milked out from the extrameatus by prostatic massage. For drainage, we performed transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). Drainage by TU

Prostatic abscesses are usually related to gram-negative bacilli. However, methicillin-resistantStaphylococcus aureus(MRSA) has emerged as a substantial cause of prostatic abscesses in recent years. Herein, we report the case of a 31-year-old man with a history of orthotopic liver transplantation 10 years ago who presented with acute onset dysuria and abdominal pain and was diagnosed with a MRSA prostatic abscess. To our knowledge, this is the first case describing a prostatic abscess in a liver transplant recipient and the first reporting MRSA as the causative organism of a prostatic abscess

One potential complication of radical cystectomy is the development of a pelvic abscess requiring drainage. Transurethral drainage has been described for the treatment of prostatic abscesses but is particularly well tolerated in patients for whom pelvic fluid drainage is needed following radical cystectomy. Although percutaneous, transrectal, or transvaginal approaches to pelvic drain placement are possible, the transurethral route provides a fully epithelialized tract through which the drainage catheter can traverse and which does not require unnecessary tissue puncture. ABP must be differentiated from urinary tract infections (UTIs) and CBP must be differentiated from non-bacterial (NBP) prostatitis and recurrent cystitis. Patients with ABP are acutely ill with fever and chills, and ABP may be complicated by urosepsis or prostatic abscess.
