Abstract:
This epilogue links the colonial history of sexuality with the contemporary politics of HIV/AIDS and girl-child trafficking in Nigeria. The continuity and change in the institutional response to illicit sexuality mirrored the transformative process in the core structures of Nigeria's political and economic ordering. Unlike in the 1940s, when the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the CWO were chiefly responsible for policing prostitution, postcolonial Nigeria witnessed the emergence of new organizations like the National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons (NAPTIP), which monitors sexual exploitation of underage girls. Indeed, the character, intensity, and composition of regulatory agencies have changed to meet the new challenges of urbanization, HIV/AIDS, underdevelopment, and the globalization of sex in post-independence Nigeria.

Abstract:
This introductory chapter presents three overarching arguments that form the centerpiece of the ideas engaged in this book. First, sexuality as a component of human behavior cannot be understood in isolation from wider historical processes. Indeed, sexuality was one of the intricate sites through which several core ideas of colonial practices and thinking about modernity were configured and reconfigured. Second, the age of females who practiced prostitution played a significant role in molding the perception and institutional attention toward sex work, exemplifying the constructed difference between child and adult sexualities. Third, the intersection between sexuality and nationalism in Africa is far more complex than the present literature reveals. In Nigeria, sexualized nationalism was an aspect of the moral, cultural, economic, and political nationalisms championed by both men and women who felt that certain expressions of sexuality threatened nation-building.

Abstract:
The need for action to combat corruption is paramount. Corruption undermines democratic institutions and the rule of law. This chapter describes the escalating public demand for action against corruption, including in China, Korea, India, South Africa, Nigeria, Brazil, France, Italy, Mexico, and the United States. Corruption hurts all parts of society but its most devastating effect is on the poor who are widely extorted by government officials to pay for public services that should be freely available such as admissions to clinics and schools, and access to water and electricity. Corrupt interests have taken over failed states in different parts of the world and utilize them as bases for illicit activities including drug trafficking, prostitution, and smuggling of counterfeit goods. Anticorruption programs started in the past quarter century have laid a solid basis for making progress. Perseverance and redoubled efforts are required. Failure to confront corruption would be totally irresponsible.
