Full textThe rights of the mental sick have profoundly just been modified by several texts of laws. It is about the reform of the law of 1990 by the law of July 5th, 2011, but also about the reform of the protection of the adults of 2007. The law " Dati " of 2008, relative in particular to the penal irresponsibility for mental disorders(confusions) and finally to the law relative to the handicap of 2005, also impact their rights. The disorders(confusions) of the mentally ill person make of the latter a subject of particular right(law), from which personal freedoms must be particularly protected in front of requirements of protection of the law and order. The nature of the disorders(confusions) leads(infers) for these patients a specific confrontation in the right(law) and in the justice, in several circumstances. It seems that the mentally ill person occupies a particular place (square) with regard to his rights and liberties. Consequently, it is possible to assert that the psychiatry, the medical discipline asked to take care of this type(chap) of patient, establishes(constitutes) well a real forensic specificity, with which are confronted the professionals. If this specificity rests(bases) on the necessity of protecting the health, by taking into account requirements bound(connected) to the law and order, to the repression of breaches and to the safety(security) of the people, the stake also consists in guaranteeing effectively the protection of the personal freedoms of the concerned patients

Full textThe persons affected by mental disorders and illnesses, as persons given the legal personality, have rights. The mental illnesses and the intellectual deficiencies having incidences on the perception of the reality, the consciousness and/or the intellectual abilities of the person, entail inevitably consequences on the capacity to will or to decide. Taking this acknowledgement into consideration, the legislator has set up rules providing the protection of the person and of his goods, while respecting the person's autonomy. There are also legal provisions facilitating the autonomy of the disabled persons. Moreover, the change in judgment of the person has consequences on the person's civil and penal liability. Furthermore, as vulnerable person, the person affected by mental disorders and illnesses needs protection. In accordance with the principle of the respect of dignity, laws and regulations guarantee a specific protection of the body and of the person. Laws and regulations also cover the hospitalization under constraint required by the care of mental disorders

Full textThe studies about children living with a parent suffering from a mental illness focus on children with mental disorders or at risk. Problematic. This study aims at exploring internal and external protective factors in resilient adults who grew up with a mental ill parent in order to develop a help for suffering children. We also make a literature review of the existing programs and helps for these children, put in perspective with our results, so that we can propose to offer them a kind of support. Methodology and population. Thirty mental healthy adult women, from 19 to 36 years old, who lived with a father or a mother suffering from a mental illness, answered a semi-structured interview. They also realized family drawings, and completed a resilience inventory (IFR-40) and a life events questionnaire. Results. The significant presence of family and extrafamily protective factors in the process of the resilience’ subjects, confirms those in the literature: good relationships with parents, good family concord, the presence of helping adults, etc. Other significant family protective factors were found: privileged activities with a parent and moral values shared.Conclusion. We can promote resilience in children living with a parent suffering from a mental illness by strengthening these external protective factors, and by developing a group of peer support to meet their needs and address the lack of support for these children in France

Full textThe object of this research is to propose certain areas of reflection concerning the difficult treatment of psychoses in psychiatric care centres. It will study the hypothesis which supposes that the establishment of particular techniques regarding to and as a result of a working situation is in fact of benefit to the mentally sick; these patients contribute to their own social re-integration and to the improvement of the quality of their living conditions: this second factor is evaluated in this study by the patients directly concerned; it is confirmed by outside observers. Through the creation and utilisation of a productive historic space, with its particular symbolic references (location, temporality, mythic, artisanal, material), in which the educative preparation for a working activity is combined with the consideration of the individual identity in the encounter with the other. The structure is essentially that of ergotherapie. It is concentrated upon the positioning and use of a third person who permits the resolution by revealing the dual relation; between the patient and his other educator. At the same time, it places in relation the physical experience of labour with the object of the working process and the distancing of this factor through the verbal exchange with others. The experimental montage in question, adjusted and described in detail during it's progression, offers the possibility to it's subject of participating actively in his own treatment as well as that of others, through his activity in a working group; based in a gardening workshop. In the social relations thus created each participant is able to develop a particular aptitude: the capacity to invest himself in the training of the other, in order to recognise himself as subject of is own life-history

Full textNowadays, in France, 17 % of the jailed population is made up of mentally ill people (some even say 30 %). It must be clearly pointed out that prisons must cease endorsing the housing mission that hospitals do not fulfill any longer. The trend which was until recently to reduce sentences (Chaumié's Circular dated 1905) has now been reversed for criminal acts resulting from psychiatric disorder. Recent statistics highlight that the number of discharged judgments has been divided by ten since the 1980ies. This acknowledges the fact that people now tend to see in mentally disturbed criminals people to punish rather than to cure. By placing the victims in the spotlights, the Penal Code is therefore meeting a new justice demand. Should mentally ill criminals be sent before justice courts ? Definitely yes, with the aim on one hand to establish whether they are penally responsible, and on the other hand to allow them to benefit from the trial therapeutic effect. Should we punish mentally ill criminals ? Definitely not : it is not conceivable to punish people who suffer from psychiatric disorders but it is an absolute necessity to look after them, aiming thus to facilitate their future social reinsertion

Full textAMost of the time, the books about occupational therapy (or "work of the lunatics") refer to the same writters : Pinel and H. Simon, frequently, Ferrus and Bouchet, less often. However, during our research, more or less easy, it appears that most of the alienists of the 19th century wrote a few articles about this subject. We won't mention all the ones who contributed to develop the interest of this therapy, but we do want to quote the lectures which took place at the medico-psychological society and the numerous texts about farm in colonies (1860-1870). The written production happened to be less important -some even called it "decline"- but it was in fact a temporary one. Thanks to this writting in french (issued in Belgium, Canada, Savoy, Switzerland and France), we've been able to study the benefists of the work upon the mental diseased from 1789 to 1945. This long period will allow us to understand better the existing evolution of the work therapy

Full textThis thesis is studying the efficiency of psychometry as an instrument of measure and prediction of dangerosity. The theorical part concerns dangerous behavior and aggessivity mechanisms. We replaced our work in a historical and juridical perspective, and then we examined the contribution of the rorschach test to the study of agressivity. The experimental research concerns a population of thirtythree schizophrenic in-patients, having a dangerous behavior, hospitalized in a safety service. This population has been divided in two groups: -twenty persons beneficiaries of the article sixty-four of french penal code; -thirteen persons not beneficiaries of that law. Thirty-four in-patients in a specialized hospital centre, formed the control-group. In order to realize the psychometrical research, we used binois and pichot vocabulary test, visual retention test of benton, rorschach test, organic integrity test of tien, and mini-mult test. The statistical treatment of results shows especially that some variables to the rorschach test should be considered as an agressivity index. Results show a significant differentiation between the "article sixty-four" group and the "not article sixty-four" one. These patients show a schizophrenic profile more pathological, though they should not express a psychometrical agressivity, when they show their clinical agressivity, and when their biography let suppose less dangerous behavior. The "article sixty-four" patients show their psychometrical agressivity, when they keep control of their behavior, and when their biography demonstrate a real dangerosity. It seems that dangerosity is not expressed by an impetuousness of pulsions, but by a control of this

Full textAfter recalling the current conditions of parents with severe mental illness (SMI), we examined whether patients who report serious difficulties remaining unaddressed by existing services, feel more self-stigmatized and adopt less adequate parenting functioning.100 participants with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder or major depressive disorder completed the Camberwell Assessment of Needs (CAN Section 1, Phelan, 1995 ; Stefanatou et al., 2014), the abbreviated version of the Internalized Stigma for Mental Illness scale (Boyd et al., 2014 ;Paraskevoulakou, 2017), the Parental Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ, Robinson et al., 2001 ; Antonopoulou & Tsitsas, 2011) and the Parental Acceptance and Rejection Questionnaire (Parent PARQ, Rohner, 2008 ; Tsaousis, Mascha & Giovazolias, 2015). In our sample, significant associations were revealed between the CAN and the ISMI measures and both the PARQ and PSDQ total scores. More precisely, unmet needs were positively correlated with the total score and dimensions of the ISMI. The less adequate styles and practices were positively correlated with the unmet needs and the majority of the ISMI dimensions. The CAN and the ISMI measures were negatively associated with optimal styles and practices. Overall, higher unmet needs and internalized stigma levels were associated with more problematic parental styles and practices. The multiple linear regression analysis indicated that the ISMI measure was independently associated with both the PARQ and PSDQ total scores, and that the type of disorder, as well as the characteristics typically associated with the severity of the disorder (chronicity, family antecedents of mental illness) had a predictive value for the quality of SMI parenting. Our results broaden understanding of institutional issues regarding SMI parenting assistance. Family needs should be prioritarily addressed, especially for sub-groups we identified as being atrisk for less adequate parenting and increased help needs. Furthermore, since high self-stigmatization of SMI parents is predictive of poorer parental practices and styles, internalized stigma reduction and strength-based interventions to SMI parents are crucial directions for future recovery-oriented efforts

Full textThe objective of this study is to examine institutional procedures concerning psychotic children. The starting point is a reflection on the discourse of "applied psychoanalysis", in the context of the therapeutic meaning of jacques lacan. This subject constitutes the experience that psychoanalysis has drawn from the psychoses by giving us a means for verifying the relation between institutions and psychosis. The objective and aim of our study has as its primary reference the construction of the "experimental school at bonneuil", an "open institution" for psychotic children founded by maud mannoni, robert lefort and pierre fedida in 1969. Bonneuil is situated in france at bonneuil sur marne, at 63 rue pasteur. Since 17 march 1975, the school is registered as a "day hospital" with overnight therapeutic boarding accommodation. Its status as an experimental institution allows it to operate as an "open institution", bursting the barriers both within and without. This notion furnishes the main focus for the discussion in this study, for the "opening up" of the institution is an analytical tool which is used to try to find answers and provide a frame of reference for articulating the question of the subject in relation to his/her desire. The introduction of the object of psychoanalysis - and more particularly as it is presented in the teaching of jacques lacan - has allowed us to hold as a presupposition for our work that it is possible to construct an institution which is a response to the consequences of psychoses, but a response at the level of the freudian notion of the real. Having established this as the basis of our work we are able to formulate the question of the clinic and of the repercussions on social ties of the real of this clinic. This is the pivotal question of this thesis

Full textThe hysteric is supposed to succeed in "making the Other desire", since she supports, through her very powerlessness, the efficacy of the impossible in making the Other utter the cause of that desire. The subject who positions himself within the DH (the hysteric's discourse) faces this question: how can he bring forth the impossible which can function as a real, how can he circumscribe the gap representing the lack of sexual relationship that impairs the One? As we know, the lack in the One can be unveiled through the satisfaction of desire. While he occupies the place of the semblance within the DH, this subject thinks that he is entitled to a demand to know the truth in addition to the demand for love, and this is precisely what obstructs the production of knowledge. "Beyond sex", the hysteric shares with the man the position of the divided subject located in the lower part of the Lacanian schema of sexuation, inside the domain of the existence. As long as the Other would not say which is the reason for his desire, the hysteric will keep her own desire unsatisfied, and neurosis will outlive discourse. The will-to-desire or the will-to-speak within the DH will be put to work and will thus defy the impossible and its logic, belonging to this operation, through the passage to the DA (the analytic discourse). Indeed, this fact could bring the hysteric subject, through the assumption of her castration, to free her desire from its being engulfed into "jouissance"

Full textThis dissertation is about the representations and treatments of psychic disturbances in a Creole society, La Réunion (Indian Ocean). The hypothesis of research was that, in a plural society born from a colonial context, the representations and practices linked to the prevention and treatment of psychic disturbances deal with the question of the "other". Since we are part of this society, we had to take into account our own personal identity in order to describe the one of the people with whom we worked. We could not write an ethnography without reflecting on ourselves. We had to move from a classic and distant description to a reflexive one. By doing so, this research really introduces a methodological break in anthropological research. .

Full textIn Canada, it is estimated that 14 to 26 % of children within the general population have a parent with a mental illness, which represents approximately 12 000 children in Quebec region. Despite numerous studies on this subject, the effects of living with a parent with mental illness are not well known. The aim of this research is to explore the experience of adults who grew up with one mentally ill parent. More specifically, the research questions are: 1) What are the events and turning points that have influenced the life course of those adults? 2) How do the familial and social relationships evolved? 3) What are the distinctions between the group considered as “well-being” and the other considered as “not so well”? To do so, semi-structured interviews have been conducted among twelve participants, half of which being considered as “well-being” and the other half as “not so well”. According to the life course theory, thematic analysis was applied. This helped identifying the awareness of the parent’s illness as a turning point in the life course of the participants and the positive and negative effects of relationships with family members and other social relationships. Finally, results show that the elements studied do not differentiate the group considered “going well” from the one “not so well” in a life course perspective.

Full textIn 1911, Freud said that delirium is a try to recover the health, that is truly proved by the case of the president D. P. Schreber. More recently, J. C. Maleval underline that Lacan in 1956 hinted at a delirium's scale, which is naturally a reference to the logic of the evolution of de-lirium in classical psychiatry, as well as the distribution that J. C. Maleval set off in his book "Logic of delirium", which locate the achievement of the self-therapeutic working at the P3 stage of the "systematic paraphrenia". J. C. Maleval show us how this stage, structurally, sign the acme of the delirious working as consent to the "jouissance de l'Autre". The paraphrenia appears in 1913 in the Kraepelin nosographia, which, in its last form, wanted to conciliate French and Deutsch theoretical current. Indeed, in the eighth edition of his treatise, after ten years of polemic, Kraepelin introduce in place of "démence précoce" a "démence précoce restreinte" and the group of paraphrenias. So he tried to answer for the criticism of French authors who refused including all hallucinating delirious in "démence précoce". Paraphrenia is standing on both sides : in the same time genius find punctuating a rich period of emulation between French and Deutsch's psychiatrists and singular clinical type which authorize for a psychotic subject the coexistence of an exuberant delirium and a satisfying professional and social inscription too. We will try to prove that paraphrenia can be considered as the term of the evolution of a psychotic cycle, and then we will examine the actuality of this clinical type and its possible extensions so as to set off some indications for psychoanalytic treatment of psychosis

Full textOur work intends to study the relationship between the psychiatric area and the social reintegration of the mentaly sick persons. We have analysed this conexion in reference to the dialectic generated by the outside as well as the inside. The psychiatric hospital does use that dialectic to open up to the external world. What kind of opening-up would allow the patients to return to the society after the treatment ? what are the variables which enterfeer in the setting up of reintegration period compared with the stay in hospital ? thus, we have postulated the social reintegration both as a goal resulting from the mental health policy in france which started with the division into sectors as well as an ideal of the psychiatry prohibiting any kind of exclusion. With this ideal, isolation becomes a necessity and an instrument to return to the society and is no longer a purpose aiming only at the "deviance" removal. Henceforth, the differenciation between confinement and the locking-up that we have attented according to investigation we have carried out. The first one based on a suitable spatial device would aim at the restoration of sociality. The second one would be linked to lunatic asylum conception that both politics and psychiatry try to fight according to their role in the society
