Abstract:
Within the past 100 years, the protection of archaeological and other cultural resources have fallen in part under federal jurisdiction. The role of federal legislation and regulations, with particular emphasis on the Archaeological Resources Protection Act of 1979 (ARPA), is evaluated in terms of guidelines, application, and effectiveness. A history of federal legislation is presented, followed by an in-depth review and analysis of ARPA. The relevance and applicability of ARPA and other legislation is reviewed in terms of resource significance, definitions of archaeological material, logistic

Abstract:
This dissertation explores some of the thousands of smaller Native American archaeological sites with meager architectural elements commonly found along part of the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau in east-central Arizona in an area known as the Mogollon Plateau. Small surface structures of less than five rooms were typically built of a combination of stone masonry and wattle and daub, and they are generally interpreted as evidence of repeated occupations of limited duration, primarily dating between AD 800 and 1300. Accordingly, these small sites have also served a number of roles in o

Formation of regional environmental and economic policies must be accompanied by a rise in the role of environmental factors in the development of individual regions that are in crisis, given the integrated assessment of natural assimilation of anthropogenic emissions and waste, available natural resources, the level of development of productive forces and geographic location. Condition of ecology in some industrial cities that are situated in the central and eastern regions of the country, continues to deteriorate as a result of depreciation of fixed assets and nature and lack of fund

The adoption of the African Charter on Human and Peoples Rights (AFCHPR) on 17 June 1981 by the O. A. U. Assembly of Heads of States and Government is, singly, the most significant act in the field of Human Rights protection in Africa. The Charter entered into force on 21 October 1986. These developments have inspired the Commission of this thesis. The aim of this thesis is to examine the promotion and protection of human rights in Africa in three main areas, namely, historical/cultural perspectives, national and regional legal regimes for the promotion and protection of human rights in Africa.

Bwaise III in Kampala, Uganda is a densely populated informal settlement with a shallow groundwater table and inadequate basic services. High risk of groundwater contamination will bring health problem to the local residents. In this study, a large dimension (300 m in length) 2D model was developed to depict the hydrogeological condition and to examine the response to different rainfall infiltration rate on the groundwater table. The boundary condition of the drainage system plays an important role in modeling the groundwater flow. The simulation results show that water in the drain will flow

This thesis investigates the impact of increased penetration of distributed energy resources (DERs) on the power system distribution network protection system which has been designed on the premise of passive radial network with unidirectional power flow. The investigation involved developing a multistage morphological fault detection and diagnostic tool called the decomposed open-close alternating sequence algorithm using a signal processing technique called mathematical morphology. This investigation culminated in proposing new strategies for; adaptive overcurrent protection in AC radial dis
