Abstract:
Background: Chronic energy deficiency is a condition that occurs due to the deficiency of energy and protein intake to the needs over a long period of time. Chronic energy deficiency often occurs in adolescence, especially adolescent girls. Chronic energy deficiency can be caused by many factors including lack of energy intake, protein intake and body image. The purpose of study was to examine the relationship energy intake, protein intake, and body image with the prevalenceof chronic energy deficiency in adolescent girls. Methods: The method used was a scoping review approach. Under dietary self-selection, rats choose to ingest 25%–30% of energy as protein, a value higher than the protein requirement (10%–15%). According to our results, this higher spontaneous intake reflects the fact that rats fed a 15% protein diet, compared with high-protein diets, tend to bind more fat and have higher concentrations of FGF21, a hormone signaling protein deficiency. Valid indicators of the energy status of cows are the body condition, parameters of the metabolic profile, hormonal status, and organic components of milk. The energy status of cows of the Holstein-Friesian breed from four farms was estimated on the grounds of urea, protein and fat concentration in milk. Investigations covered 62 samples of milk (11 from farm A, 16 from farm B, 15 from farm C, and 20 from farm D). All cows were in the first stage of lactation and fed rations recommended for that category of animal. The average fat concentration in all milk samples was 23?13 g/l, the average pr

The present study examines the effects of protein- and energy-type malnutrition in combination with Zn deficiency on the growth, serum insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), gastrocnemius muscle mass and fibre diameter of growing rats during a deficiency phase followed by nutritional rehabilitation. Rats (3-weeks old) were randomly assigned to baseline, or Zn-deficient (Z, < 1 mg Zn/kg), protein-deficient (P, 20 g protein/kg), combined Zn- and protein-deficient (ZP), energy-deficient (E, feed intake pair-fed to Z) or control (C, 30 mg Zn/kg and 170 g protein/kg) groups for a 3-week deficienc

The purpose of the article is to summarize modern ideas about the importance of nutritional status of patients with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) and to draw attention to need of assessment and correction of malnutrition in this patient category. Nutritional disorder of patients with PBC affects prognosis and quality of life. Already at an early stage, the development of energy deficiency, activation of compensatory mechanisms for obtaining energy from fatty acids and amino acids of the somatic pool of proteins with progressive loss of body weight are observed. Tristetraprolin (TTP), an RNA-binding protein, controls the stability of RNA by capturing AU-rich elements on their target genes. It has recently been identified that TTP serves as an anti-inflammatory protein by guiding the unstable mRNAs of pro-inflammatory proteins in multiple cells. However, it has not yet been investigated whether TTP affects the inflammatory responses in the hypothalamus. Since hypothalamic inflammation is tightly coupled to the disturbance of energy homeostasis, we designed the current study to investigate whether TTP regulates hypothalamic inflammation and thereby affe

Pregnant women with Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) are pregnant women who are at risk of experiencing Chronic Energy Deficiency, which is characterized by an upper arm circumference (LILA) below 23.5 cm. Most pregnant women in rural and urban areas experience a lack of energy and protein consumption so they lack macronutrients and micronutrients which can result in low birth weight babies and short toddlers. Patients with this rare disease, which is also known as NGLY1 deficiency, exhibit global developmental delay and other phenotypes including neuropathy, movement disorder, and constipation. NGLY1 is known to regulate proteasomal and mitophagy gene expression through activation of a transcription factor called "nuclear factor erythroid 2-like 1" (NFE2L1).
