The aims of the present work were to assess the nature and importance of the intermolecular and surface interactions in ion exchange processes at different conditions and also to develop a mathematical model for the prediction of equilibrium constants. The equilibrium uptake of two proteins (bovine serum albumin, myoglobin) on hydrophilic ion exchangers was studied at different pH values and ironic strengths. The [ReCl6]2-, [ReBr6]2- and [ReCl4(ox)]2- anions are crystallised with the organic 4,4’- bipyridinium dication (4,4-H2bipy). Magnetometry reveals exotic behaviour of the [4,4’- H2bipy][ReCl6] and [4,4’-H2bipy][ReBr6] salts which demonstrate spin-canting, antiferromagnetic exchange interactions and metamagnetism. To overcome this issue, companies strive to simplify the separation process by reducing the number of steps and replacing expensive separation devices. <p>Pumice and the Moringa oleifera (MO) seed were investigated as alternative natural materials for drinking water treatment based on problems identified at the Stretta Vaudetto water treatment plant in Eritrea. </p><p>Lab and pilot scale studies showed that pumice was a suitable alternative material for dual media filtration. Conversion of the sand filters at Stretta Vaudetto to pumice-sand media would significantly improve performance of the filtration units.
