There are two basic assumptions that initiated this study. The first is that Hausa proverbs, as is so often the case with many other African oral traditions, are highly abundant in poetic elements. The second is that these poetic elements can be identified and described in a systematic literary manner. The main thesis starts from a discussion of the notion of quantitative balance and bipartite structure. Hausa proverbs are normally bipartite in form and many aesthetic connotations arise from this. AbstractWe show how variations of range-restriction and also the Horn property can be passed from inputs to outputs of Craig interpolation in first-order logic. The proof system is clausal tableaux, which stems from first-order ATP. Our results are induced by a restriction of the clausal tableau structure, which can be achieved in general by a proof transformation, also if the source proof is by resolution/paramodulation. Primarily addressed applications are query synthesis and reformulation with interpolation. Our methodical approach combines operations on proof structures with the immediate

Fire produces unique effects on steel structures which can compromise the residual capacity and therefore the structural response if they impact jointly with other natural hazards, such as earthquakes. This work presents a procedure that allows for the extension of the analysis method introduced in the 1990s by Fajfar and Gaspersic and outlined in EC8 (referred to as the N2 method) for the case of Multi-Hazard (MH) analysis, specifically for hazard-chain scenarios involving earthquake and fire. The goal is to assess the structural performance at the end of the sequence of considered events. By

Proverbs are sentences used by people to convey wisdom, truth or morals that have been handed down for generations.Verbs play an important role in Arabic proverbs. for this reason, it is an urgent issue to study them separately, especially in Uzbek Arabic studies with modern grammatical terms. Although verbs in the Arabic language can be considered as an object of research many times, the fact that they have not been studied in a perfect form on the scale of Arabic proverbs increases the importance of this article.

Abstract Scissor-like structures are commonly composed of two straight rigid supports in a crisscross pattern connected by a pivot at its point of intersection [1]. Opposite angles formed by the supports are equal regardless of the structure’s folded state. Parallelogram linkages have a similar property. Rigid origami can be used to create these structures by combining two identical copies of a 4-crease single-vertex flat-foldable rigid origami, a single 4C, to form a flat-foldable composite structure, a double 4C. In this paper, we prove mathematically that regardless of the folded state of a

This report presents a wave method to be used for the structural identification and damage detection of structural components in bridges, e.g., bridge piers. This method has proven to be promising when applied to real structures and large amplitude responses in buildings (e.g., mid-rise and high-rise buildings). This study is the first application of the method to damaged bridge structures. The bridge identification was performed using wave propagation in a simple uniform shear beam model. The method identifies a wave velocity for the structure by fitting an equivalent uniform shear beam model

In this paper an isotropic hardening elastoplastic constitutive model for structured soils is applied to the simulation of a standard CPTu test in a saturated soft structured clay. To allow for the extreme deformations experienced by the soil during the penetration process, the model is formulated in a fully geometric non-linear setting, based on: i) the multiplicative decomposition of the deformation gradient into an elastic and a plastic part; and, ii) on the existence of a free energy function to define the elastic behaviour of the soil. The model is equipped with two bonding-related intern

Some analysts rank Chile as the only Latin American economy that qualifies as a 'take-off economy,' or development economy. In a sense, Chile's enduring success and proved insulation from the 'Tequila effect' are due to its high national savings. What has made Chile's savings so high? What were some key policies implemented? Did the structural and liberalizing reforms of the late 1970s and 1980s have anything to do with it? This paper tries to empirically disentangle some of the puzzles with historical data that span the 1960-1995 period.
