Abstract:
In this study the importance of Providencia species as a cause of travellers’ diarrhoea was examined using a selective medium developed by the authors. Providencia species could easily be distinguished from other enteric pathogens by the colour of the colonies obtained. Nine strains of Providencia alcalifaciens, nine of Providencia rettgeri and five of Providencia stuartii were isolated from 130 specimens, representing a surprisingly high incidence of infection compared with other pathogens isolated on SS agar and TCBS agar. Patients infected with P. rettgeri complained of abdominal pain, as f

Background Sanguinarine (SAG), a benzophenanthridine alkaloid, occurs in Papaveraceas, Berberidaceae and Ranunculaceae families. Studies have found that SAG has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antiproliferative activities in several malignancies and that it exhibits robust antibacterial activities. However, information reported on the action of SAG against Providencia rettgeri is limited in the literature. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial and antibiofilm activities of SAG against P. rettgeri in vitro. Methods The agar dilution method was used to determine th

Abstract:
Bacterial septicaemia is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in farmed saltwater crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus) in the Northern Territory. Providencia rettgeri is the most common aetiological agent. Efficacy of antibiotic treatment is dubious and there are high levels of resistance to antibiotics commonly used by farms, underlining the need for exploration of new approaches to managing the disease.

The lyophilized strain of P. rettgeri (ATCC 9250) was divided into two parts, Group (Gr.) I: control and Gr. II: treatment. After biofield treatment, Gr. II was further subdivided into two parts, Gr.
