Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The study was done to investigate the state of situational variables and how these variables affect work attitudes and subsequently intentions to quit in a manufacturing company in Gauteng Province. The study was carried out under normal business operating conditions without reinforcing any of the research variables within the period of the study. A stratified random sampling approach was used to carry out the study using a structured questionnaire developed from predictors used by other researchers. The questionnaire, based on a five-point Likert scale with situational variables such as learning and development, recognition, respect, appreciation, benefits and perks, salary, promotion, organisational support, perceived opportunity for rewards, fair leadership, organisational culture, working conditions, communication, trust and relationships and job security and work related attitudes such as organisational commitment, organisational citizenship, job satisfaction, job involvement, employee engagement and intentions to quit the organisation, was designed to capture the state of affairs within the organisation based on the employees’ percep tions of their experiences of these variables. Data was analysed using statistical analysis tools namely correlation and regression analysis. 200 questionnaires were issued and 111 were returned of which 103 were useable. The research data showed a moderate state of unhappiness with eight of the ten situational variables scoring below the midpoint signalling a need for the organisation to reinforce these variables. Work related attitudes were moderate and almost all scoring around the midpoint but intention to quit yielded a lower score. Correlations analysis showed statistically significant and strong positive relationships between situational work variables. Correlations also showed statistically significant medium to strong positive relationships between situational variables with work related attitudes. There was a statistically significant medium to strong negative relationship between intentions to quit and work related attitudes showing that as work attitudes improve intentions to quit decrease. The regression analyses showed that key situational work-related variables did predict work related attitudes and outcomes with perceived organisational support proving to be the most important predictor for all work related attitudes and outcomes; fair leadership were only a significant predictor for organisational citizenship behaviour and work engagement, while job security were only a significant predictor of job satisfaction, work engagement and intentions to quit. Organisational climate was also a significant predictor of organisational commitment, organisational citizenship and work engagement. Recommendations are provided for the organisation and for future research.

Abstract:

The economies of many countries in the world have been characterised by exponential growth in the past few decades. The rapid and continuous growth has brought about numerous changes in the business world which have demanded a high level of management practices as organisations fight for the required resources. Amongst the resources being sought after is human capital, employees have become one of the major resources that an organisation would want to retain. The turnover of employees to other organisations results in decreased production and a spike in the costs, through continuous, recruitment and training.

Andembutop, Andezai Josiah. "Factors associated with outcomes of quit attempts among smokers in an industrial workplace in the Vaal area of Gauteng province." Thesis, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10539/21208.

Full text
Abstract:
Submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of the degree of Master of Family medicine, faculty of health sciences, University of the Witwatersrand. Johannesburg 2016
Background The implementation of smoking regulations in South Africa has led to reductions in smoking prevalence in the general population. However, the industrial work place is a physically demanding and manual-labour-intensive work environment, and may promote continued smoking as part of coping mechanisms for workers. Outcomes of quit-attempts in the industrial setting may therefore be different from those obtainable in the general population. The current study determined the outcomes of quit-attempts among ever-smokers in a multi-national industrial steel company and compared successful quitters with those who continue to smoke, in order to determine factors significantly associated with successful quit-outcome. Methods In a cross sectional comparative study, a structured questionnaire developed de novo, was administered on 230 consecutively sampled ever-smokers. This questionnaire collected information on participants’ socio-demography, smoking patterns, motivations and treatments used during quit-attempts and outcome of quit attempts. Data was analyzed using Epi-Info. Analysis included descriptive statistics, chi-square test, t-test, analysis of variance and logistic regression. Main outcome measures included: the proportions of participants who had ever made a quit-attempt, the proportions who have been successful (abstinent in the past 6 months) or not (continues smoking) in their quit-attempts, and the factors that are significantly associated with being successful. Results A total of 230 participants completed the questionnaire. Of these, most participants were: White (71.3%), men (82.2%), had grade 12 or more education (81.3%), married / co-habiting (70.9%), permanently employed (65.2%) and field-based or manual labourers (73.9%). Participants’ mean age was 37 years and they smoked an average of 19.8 cigarettes per day. All participants had made at least a quit-attempt of which only 52 (22.6%) reported being successful. On group comparison, participants who reported being successful at quit attempts were significantly more likely to be older (43.5 Vs 35.8 years; p = 0.00), married (p = 0.01), permanently employed (p = 0.02), have had grade 12 education or more (p=0.01), smoke their first cigarette of the day after 30 minutes of being awake (p = 0.00) and made a quit-attempt for reasons other than concerns for their family and friends (p = 0.00). On logistic regression, reporting receipt of social support from family or friends (OR = 9.0; CI: 2.0-40.0; p = 0.01), the use of varenicline (OR = 4.0; CI: 2.0-9.0; p = 0.00) were significantly associated with success at quit attempt. However, patch use was found to significantly reduce the odds of successful quit-attempts (OR=0.2; 95% CI: 0.1-0.7; p=0.01), contrary to the literature that nicotine patch use increases the chances of quitting even when used in isolation. Conclusion The vast majority of smokers in this industrial workplace make attempts to quit smoking. However less than a quarter reported being successful. The receipt of social support from families and friends, and the use of tobacco treatment aids such as varenicline and NRTs appear crucial in assisting smokers to successfully quit in this industrial setting.

Abstract:
AbstractBenefit corporations are quite new in Canada, having been brought into force only on 30 June 2020 in the province of British Columbia. B Corps, however, are present and gaining ground across most provinces and territories. Benefit corporations under the new legislation are deemed to meet certification as B Corps. Other similar stakeholder interest companies are considered, such as community interest/contribution companies, social enterprises and co-operatives. Reference is made as well to Supreme Court of Canada jurisprudence, which already lays the ground for a broader consideration of stakeholder interests and benefits under corporate law in Canada. Finally, diverse opinions on introducing benefit corporation legislation are presented.

Abstract:
AbstractThe different types of local government (metropolitan cities, provinces, municipalities), are caught between national and regional legislation in a situation in which the national legislature has the upper hand, with the exception in a few special regions in Italy’s system of asymmetrical regionalism. Although the system of local government was and still is quite symmetrical on the whole, in practice it is less than fully symmetrical with regard both to the performance of local governments and to their role in intergovernmental relations. Local governments are in search of role-clarity amidst a background of a unstable politics and several seasons of unfinished (federal) reforms. Meanwhile, intergovernmental relations are complicated by structural challenges, by a range of socio-demographic trends such as urbanisation and the hyper-fragmentation of local governments, and by the challenges arising from the financial crisis of 2008 and later from the Covid-19 pandemic.

AbstractIn PISA 2015, students from four China mainland cities/provinces performed worse in collaborative problem solving (CPS) than in other subjects. While student collaboration has been widely implemented in Chinese classrooms since 2001, empirical research on the role and intervention of teachers is still quite scarce. Influenced by international and national tests, open-ended tasks have been widely developed and used during mathematics lessons, which are seen as more suitable for CPS. In this paper, we investigated the effect of teacher intervention during pair and group CPS by experimenting with four teachers in eight classes, then selected a few typical cases and analysed their effect on task performance regarding intervention focus and means. Three of the four teachers’ interventions proved effective. The most and least effective teachers were selected for the case study. We discussed the effect of teacher intervention in terms of intervention styles and control. Because teachers in Chinese/Western classrooms differ in authority, we discussed intervention styles and offered suggestions for choosing and carefully implementing appropriate forms of group collaboration.

Abstract:
Abstract When the commander L. Calpurnius Piso (cos. 58) returned from Macedonia to Rome in 55, Cicero tried to convince the Senate that Piso’s failure to ask for a triumph was suspicious in itself. “There were some (aliquot) with praetorian imperium, but no one with consular imperium who returned unharmed (incolumis) from this province, who did not triumph.”1 Here we can check for accuracy. The provincial fasti for Macedonia in the period 122-81 are quite full, and then down to the year 50 almost wholly complete. If we take incolumis both literally (“safe and sound”) and metaphorically (“unimpaired by prosecution”),2 Cicero cannot be shown wrong on the consular commanders. For the praetors, however, he badly distorts the picture. After Q. Caecilius Metellus “Macedonicus” in 146, T. Didius is the only praetor known to have triumphed from the provincia (probably in the year 100). Even imperatorial acclamations are rarely attested for praetorian commanders in Macedonia. In short, the record suggests that praetors might have long commands in the province, yet when possible the Senate had men of consular rank take on severe fighting. That tendency grows particularly marked in the decades after Sulla.

Abstract:
Some of the largest oil and gas projects in Canada are currently being proposed in British Columbia. Establishing a fulsome and scientifically and socially defensible scope for environmental assessments in the oil and gas sector is a serious challenge for government and proponents. The approach taken by the federal National Energy Board to scope effects assessments on pipelines is quite different than the approach taken by the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Office on other types of oil and gas projects. The NEB has published guidelines for scoping and conducting environmental and socio-economic assessments within its Filing Manual (National Energy Board [NEB] 2014). This manual sets out the expectations for scoping, baseline information, and effects assessments to be submitted as part of approval applications. Proponents are expected to provide all information necessary to meet the guidelines. In British Columbia, the environmental assessment process is dictated by the British Columbia Environmental Assessment Act and includes a negotiated terms of reference for the assessment, called the Application Information Requirements (AIR). The approach to selection of valued components is guided by provincial guidelines (EAO, 2013). The first draft of the AIR is prepared by the proponent and is then amended to address matters raised by federal and provincial agencies, local governments, and representatives of potentially affected First Nations. Through two to three revisions, the scope of assessment is jointly established and then formally issued by the government. While there are valid reasons for the differing federal and provincial approaches to scoping environmental assessments, each of these processes create risks for proponents in terms of project timelines and costs for preparing the environmental assessment. More specifically, the use of generic and negotiated guidelines can result in a number of issues including: • A scope of assessment that is broader than necessary to understand the potential for significant adverse effects • Inclusion of issues that are “near and dear” to a specific regulator or community but has no direct relationship to the effects of the project itself • Selection of valued components that do not allow for defensible quantification of effects or use of directly relevant significance thresholds • Selection of valued components that are only of indirect concern as opposed to focusing the assessment on the true concern. • Double counting of environmental effects • Risks in assessing cumulative effects This paper discusses where and how these risks occur, and provides examples from recent and current environmental assessments for pipelines and facilities in British Columbia. Opportunities to manage the scope of assessment while providing a fulsome, efficient, effective and scientifically/socially defensible assessment are discussed.

Abstract:
Abstract High H2S issue was investigated in Field B shortly after production, with quite a variation on the measured H2S readings. The initial opinion was it might be related to the measuring methodology, as no evidence to suggest that the H2S level would increase over time from the reservoir point of view. To verify this, a full sampling program was conducted, consisting of onsite sampling and laboratory analysis. This includes stain tubes measurement, online gas chromatograph, H2S analyzer and UOP method. The H2S isotope analysis was also conducted to determine the H2S source and its future behavior in the reservoir. This paper serves as lesson learnt and best practices in H2S management from subsurface to facilities unified approach, highlighting the importance of proper data acquisition, with focus on contaminants. Indeed, H2S is a contaminant found widely in oil and gas industry and can be a limiting factor to development or hinder production if it is not appropriately characterized during exploration, appraisal and early stage of production.

Abstract:
The agricultural land around Shanghai is famous for its huge population and intensive cultivation. With the expansion of the metropolis, a large number of agricultural people have entered the city to work, and rural land has been abandoned1,2. In 2009, Kunshan City implemented a land transfer system, and 99% of the cultivated land was packaged for large scale farmers, and initially realized large‐scale operation3 . However, the large‐scale business model has gradually experienced problems such as predatory management, ecological destruction, and no sense of social responsibility. Through the establishment of agricultural land share cooperatives, Changyun Village took the lead in realizing the collective management of agricultural land, taking shares in the land, giving priority to paying dividends to the land, and paying wages to the farmers working in the cooperative. The peasants' enthusiasm for entering the city has become an important buffer for the migrants to work in Shanghai and surrounding village. It has increased the employment rate. At the same time, it has supplied green agricultural products to the city, passed on agricultural technology, and activated local communities. This article intends to analyse the correlation between several village share cooperative models based on Changyun Village and the large family farm contracting model of more than ten villages, and the satisfaction of villagers, combined with property rights theory, scale economy theory, and accounting cooperatives. Cost‐benefit, evaluate the effect of “long cloud-style” collectivization on revitalizing the surrounding villages of metropolises and assess the satisfaction of governments at all levels. Through field interviews and questionnaire surveys, the correlation analysis of village cadres and villagers' satisfaction was conducted. The government is optimistic about the role of the "long cloud model" in grassroots management and improvement of people's livelihood. Even if public finances are required to invest a large amount of money, it is necessary to strengthen the medical and social security of the villagers. The government is also quite satisfied with the Changyun model. At present, the economic benefits of the stock cooperatives have steadily increased. Although the growth rate is not large, the villagers have a strong sense of well‐being, and the village's ecological environment has been improved. In the future, the cost of the village will be reduced after the large scale operation, and the overall economic benefits will be improved. The future research direction will be how to solve the specific problems that plague the cooperative's production and operation, such as low rice prices and lack of high value added finishing facilities to continue to activate the surrounding areas of the metropolis and improve the satisfaction of the government and villagers.

Abstract:
Due to the moist and humid climate weather in Thailand, it is longer than six months of rainy season each year. Thailand is thus one of the many other countries in the world that has medium insolation, the average per year at 500 W/m2. Furthermore, the whole country sit on a very soft-land flat plateau. Since the Siam Solar Dish prototype was setup and tested at Naraesuan University in Pitsanulok Province and at AREF in Bangkok, Thailand, it became apparent that the design of her support structure together with her concrete foundation also represents a complicate part of these research activities. In Thailand, a parabolic dish structure is under development for various applications in between the 300–600 °C temperature range in solar fields up to several kilowatts range. The detail in this paper is one part of the solar thermal dish Stirling for a 10 kW power plant with lead acid battery storage in Thailand, namely the “Siam Solar Dish I” research project. This paper is the only one part of the main of this research project about Siam Solar Dish System effort in Thailand. That will explain the dish structure’s design structure and its foundation, which is suitable for Thailand’s soft land environmental nature. Parabolic dish systems normally feature different structural types in terms of their performance and durability. In order to implement a successful parabolic dish system, it thus became obvious by this nature that the design of each dish structure is quite important and vital to conduct a particular design calculation to match and suit with its individual installation location. This particular part of the research project activities is to design the requirement lightweight support structure, along with the parabolic dish structural design work, and the concrete foundation suitable to the soft land country like Thailand. The design effort continue to consider additional relevance topics, like the economized cost, the structural durability, and easy to control, together with the low maintenance cost to trade off with the required light weight structure.

Abstract:
Abstract Low Quality Reservoir in WK Rokan is quite famous as a large volume of remaining recoverable resource, where TLS Formation owned the biggest share (~51%) of the total Low-Quality Reservoir potential additional reserves. This formation develop widely in Central Sumatra Basin with range ~600 ft TVDSS depth and the deepest productive reservoir in ~4000 ft TVDSS. The 600ft TVDSS TLS Reservoir is identified as the most challenging Low-Quality Reservoir in term of its subsurface and operation since this formation has been producing for decades. This Reservoir located in BLSO field in Riau Province, Central Sumatra, Indonesia approximately 140 km Northwest of Pekanbaru or 50 km northwest of the DRI field. The field is a large elongated anticlinal structure bounded on the southwest by a major high-angle reverse fault. The shallowest productive TLS in WK Rokan has a minimum recovery factor with a low reservoir quality which has permeability range of 20-300 MD due to the thin overburden barrier (shallow structure), reservoir complexity (low reservoir permeability, low sand connectivity) that led to limitation of completion strategy resulted in low oil recovery. It is found in 1972, and commercially produced as an oil-producing well with a reservoir depth of 800 - 1000 ft TVD with current recovery factor only 8%. The drive mechanism in this reservoir is shown as a weak water drive reservoir. The old-fashioned development strategy from this shallow low-quality reservoir is by having hydraulic fracturing with cased hole completion which will be driven a high-cost development scenario if we want to increase oil recovery in this reservoir. The alternate solution in developing this shallow reservoir is by optimizing productive section interface, and Open Hole Screen Liner is coming out as solution with lower investment to add more recovery with average production 49 BOPD and low average water cut (51%). This paper will talk about in how we develop well candidacy to apply open hole screen liner completion method, the result and future development plan to improve oil recovery in shallowest low quality reservoir in WK Rokan.

Abstract:
There are differences in the ways and attitudes of recycling waste paper between schools in urban and rural areas at different levels of development in China. The purpose of this study was to discover the role of interactive mechanisms of waste paper recycling on students' behaviors and attitudes toward waste paper in the campus recycling process. To complete this study, urban school classes and rural school classes in the same city, which have different waste management and recycling systems. Compare before and after recycling processing systems that incorporate interactive mechanisms. Data were obtained from interviews with students, questionnaires, and focus groups. Students in 10 urban schools and 10 rural schools in the same urban area of Guangdong Province, China, were surveyed online using Questionnaire Star, and the data were examined using SPSS statistical software. In the whole system, town schools are used as the main scenario, where teachers and students put waste paper into the converters and get the corresponding items. Due to the large amount of waste paper in town schools, there will be a surplus of items being converted out. Excess items will be transported to rural areas by transport vehicles from the recycling processing plant. The goods will be delivered to children in rural schools, reducing spending on educational items, while the transporters will take away and dispose of waste paper from rural areas. The focus groups discussed attitudes toward the improved waste paper management system, and most participants felt it was beneficial and significantly improved attitudes toward waste paper. After the improvement, the participants will intentionally collect the waste paper and put it into the replacement box. In addition, some participants also mentioned the sense of accomplishment that comes from turning the collected waste paper into usable items. Convenience and a sense of responsibility to protect the environment and the self-satisfaction of helping rural students are also motivations and potentials for improving waste paper management behavior. Participants were quite satisfied with the improved system of waste paper management. Not only is it sustainable, but it also takes into account the fact that it helps schools and school children in rural areas. Greater satisfaction can be obtained from it. This study provides a good starting point for future research on student attitudes toward recycling in both types of schools. A framework is provided for further research on factors influencing positive behaviors and attitudes based on this study.

It is a city especially commercial and agricultural whose urban morphology responds to historical, environmental and administrative circumstances, that is how, since 1851, the date on which the “cantonization” takes place begins the formation of the capital city with an urban structure formed in checkerboard that welcomes the traditional nucleus of the typical city of the ecuatorian highlands. With the development of this city, isolated neighborhoods are born out of the original urban fabric that expand in the territory, following the main road connections, eventually to fill the internal space with a morphology of contrasts, as each neighborhood or new occupations are structured individually without thinking of a city of integral formation. The longitudinal growth of the city was marked from its beginning by the river Bobo to the north-west and the river Tajamar to the south-east that keep the city within natural limits, which also provide certain environmental and landscape benefits, however in the the last few decades the city has had a significant growth that threatens an unattended and constantly expanding periphery to these environmental resources. We are facing a heterogeneous city, with problems and possibilities and attending to the idea that the city is an unfinished work, integral and sustainable urban regeneration is the basis for a reordering and a new urban approach. It is therefore proposed to study three strategic lines: the existing city, its internal circuits of connection and the adjacent nature. Establishing initial uses in the city, to occupy the predominant urban void and thus to activate the pubic space. Restructure mobility, which will strengthen the use of new peripheral road infrastructures to reduce motorized circuits in the interior, thus promoting the use of bicycles and the creation of pedestrian routes. Finally, environmental resources will again have the value of landscape and ecological wealth producing around the city a green infrastructure that contains growth and is the link of this with the countryside. Abstract:
Abstract In this paper, energy conservation approaches for residential buildings in rural area of southeast China are studied. There used to be no heating habits in rural buildings of southeast China, which is due to the relatively warm weather in winter. However, as the stand of living is increasing, heating in winter has become more popular in recent years. It is quite important to choose proper heating conservation materials taking both initial cost and operating cost into consideration. In this paper, a typical house in southern part of Henan Province is selected for study. It is a two-level house made of bricks, which was built in 2014. A set of radiators were installed for heating in winter. Water, which is heated by electrical heater, is used as heating medium for these radiators. As compared with heat pumps, draft sensation problem is avoided and temperature in the heating space is more uniform. However, operating fee is very high, which makes this heating method less attractive. To reduce power consumption of winter heating, heating load needs to be reduced and the efficiency of heating equipment needs to be increased. In this study, researches are carried out as following. First, a model is built in DeST, which is a software that can calculate hourly heating load and room temperature. Then, the effect of thermal preservation quality of envelops on room temperature and heating load are investigated. Six models with different envelopes are simulated. Then, heating load as well as power consumptions of electrical heaters and heat pumps among the six envelopes are compared. Lastly, economic analysis is carried out for the energy efficient retrofit case so that the payback period is calculated. The results show that heating load capacity of case F, envelope of which made of 240 bricks plus foamed plastic and hollow glass windows, can be reduced to 1/3 that of case A, envelope of which made of 240 bricks and single glass windows. Considering power consumptions of both compressors and fans, energy consumption density (divided by area) can be reduced from 21.6∼25 kWh·m−2·year−1 of case A, which has the worst heat conservation property, to 6.7∼7.7 kWh·m−2·year−1 of case F. If the building is improved from case A to case F and heat pumps are adopted, the payback period is 3.3∼3.8 years. Because of high cost of window retrofit and small influence of its heat conservation property on the reduction of heating capacity, it is recommended to just improve walls. Air tightness of window is more effective than thermal quality.

Abstract:
The investigations of material and spiritual culture of the Scythians and the estimation of time and character of their relations with other nations are basing upon archaeological and written sources. The dates of archaeological objects are established by the contents of grave-goods, among them mirrors being reliable chronological markers. In the North Black Sea area and the North Caucasus of the Bronze Age there are neither ‘imported’ mirrors, nor locally produced ones. The ‘Scythian’ and Greek mirrors in local cultures became an innovation connected with the arrival of the Scythians from East Eurasia and the Greek colonization of the North Black Sea territories. The absence of any nomadic traditions of producing ‘Scythian’ mirrors caused the extinction of the practice of their use. Scythian contacts with the inhabitants of the North Pontic forest zone and of the Greek colonies brought forth modi fications in the construction of mirrors. The article considers problematic questions concerning the origin of the mirror from barrow 447 by Zhurovka (Zhuravka), attributed either to the Scythians or to the Greeks. It was discovered in a barrow excavated by A. A. Bobrinsky by the settlement of Zhurovka (Cherkasskaya province, Shpolyanski region, Ukraine), the right-bank forest-steppe area by the Tyasmin river. The set of grave-goods from the barrow dates it to the second half of the 6th century BC. The mirror from barrow 447 by Zhurovka belongs to the group of mirrors with composite handles made of iron and bronze. The upper part and the lower end of the handle are decorated with bronze settings – reposing stag by the top and some other animal at the end. The handle is straight, not decorated, made of iron. The disk of the mirror is round and flat. It is fastened to the handle with rivets. Composite mirrors with combined handles appear in the forest-steppe zone of the North Black Sea area in the second third of the 6th century BC. They are all close to Greek prototypes, which is testified by rimless flat disks and triple division of handles, which scholars define as a Greek invention foe mirrors with side handles. The upper part of the handle from barrow 447 by Zhurovka is decorated with a realistic image of a stag, its parts (legs, ear, hooves) covered with engraved patterns. The handle terminates in a figure of an animal, its head with open muzzle turned backwards. The last feature suggests that it was some beast of prey, though its legs show that initially it was some hoofed animal. It is hard to understand the reason for rendering the animal image in such a way as well as to explain it by the incompetence of the craftsman – the stag decorating the upper end is quite recognizable. It is difficult to say, if the mirror is a replica of some antique object produced by a craftsman from the forest-steppe area, or a result of a restoration of the missing part of a Greek mirror (the missing Greek bone handle replaced by local iron one). Nevertheless, the mirror from the Scythian barrow 447 by Zhurovka is the result of interaction among Greeks, Scythians and local forest-steppe population. New finds (Belgorod and Krasnodar regions) and further investigations confirm the influence of ancient Greek traditions on its genesis. There is a very close parallel (and possibly a prototype) to the figurine decorating the handle from barrow 447 by Zhurovka, connecting it with the activities of Greek craftsmen.

Abstract:
Permafrost conditions in the Slave Geological province are not well understood. Thaw of permafrost and associated ground ice can reduce ground stability, which modifies terrain and drainage patterns and affects terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. This presents critical challenges to northern resource development and societies where thaw of ice-rich permafrost negatively affects the integrity of ground-based infrastructure. In an effort to address this knowledge gap, this report presents a digital georeferenced database of landforms identified in permafrost terrain using high-resolution satellite imagery and provides information on geomorphic indicators of ground ice presence and thaw susceptibility. Digital georeferenced databases compiled from sedimentological and cryostratigraphic records are also provided. The landform database is focused on mapping within a 10 km-wide swath of land (8576 km2 area of interest) centred on the proposed corridors for the 773 km-long Slave Geological Province Corridor Project, NT, and the Grays Bay Road and Port Project, NU. The geomorphic features were classified and digitized using high-resolution (0.5 m) satellite imagery following an existing protocol, which was modified by using a very high-resolution (2 m) digital elevation model (DEM), and by including mapping criteria for additional features. A total of 1393 geomorphic features were mapped comprising 10 different types, which were categorized into 3 classes that include periglacial (1291), hydrological (88), and mass movement (14) features. Data from 254 geotechnical boreholes and 2243 granular deposits were compiled. Information from the compiled databases was analyzed with surficial geology information. Results indicate that the distributions and densities of mapped landforms varied substantially according to surficial geology. High ground ice contents may be quite common in glaciofluvial deposits where creep of frozen ground affects about 30% of eskers. And ground ice may be more extensive overall than the available geotechnical data indicate. Borehole and granular deposit data suggest that overburden thickness above bedrock was up to 25.5 m, and visible ground ice contents were generally between 10% and 30%, but were up to 60% in glacial blanket and glaciofluvial sediments.
