Halal certification serves as one of the assets owned by MSME entrepreneurs when applying for bank loans. This study aims to determine whether halal certification can be used as collateral for credit and how banks use halal certification as an instrument for credit assessment based on the 5C principles. The fixed effect panel regression methodology was used to analyse the effect of financial inclusion on bank non-performing loans and loan loss provisions. Using data from 48 countries, we find that greater formal account ownership is associated with high non-performing loans.
