Abstract:
Background American educational legislation suggests culturally competent speech and language services should be provided in a child's native language, but the number of multilingual speech-language pathologists (SLPs) is negligible. Consequently, many monolingual English-speaking practitioners are being tasked with providing services to these populations. This requires that SLPs are educated about cultural and linguistic diversity as well as the legislation that concerns service provision to non-English or limited English proficiency speakers. Purpose This qualitative study explored the exper

This paper undertakes a comparative examination of language service policy, as various countries struggle to meet multilingual communication needs. Four macro factors are posited that affect provision of public service interpreting: Increasing linguistic diversity Reliance on public sector finance Institution-led, rather than profession-led standards and practices Cross-sectoral interpreting needs that conflict with usual sector-specific policy development While these factors affect policy in all countries, it is argued that countries differ widely in other crucial aspects that affect language

The key to empowering and supporting children and young people (CYP) with vision impairment (VI) to achieve their potential lies in the delivery of habilitation training. Evidence has revealed that provision of habilitation services across the United Kingdom was inconsistent, with CYP with VI not receiving services in some areas. This research explored the accessibility and quality of habilitation provision for CYP with VI via two studies: (1) 12 qualitative case studies of habilitation practice and (2) surveys of habilitation training experiences, with CYP with VI ( n = 43) and with parents o

The development of digital health interventions and their application in PHC are encouraged by the World Health Organization. The increased number of published scientific papers on this topic has resulted in an overwhelming amount of information, but there is no overview of reviews to summarize this evidence. Although psychiatry's future looks less and less likely to be in large psychiatric hospitals, trainees at SHO/registrar level still spend nearly all their time in them. Although the White Paper looks set to dismember comprehensive provision as we know it, few psychiatrists have experienced self-employment, and most are untrained in practical management skills. Although our consumers – as we must now view them – are getting more discerning about what services we offer, psychiatrists only see them after they become ill, and less able to decide for themselves.
