This thesis argues that the concept of spatial proximity offers a viable and practical option for the development of context-aware systems for highly mobile and dynamic environments. Such systems would overcome the shortcomings experienced by today’s location-based and infrastructure dependent systems whose ability to deliver context-awareness is prescribed by their infrastructure. The proposed architecture will also allow for scalable interaction as against the single level of interaction in existing systems which limits services to a particular sized area. In this study, endogenous protein is defined as that fraction of the digesta derived from the animal itself (e.g. enzymes, plasma proteins, sloughed cells and mucus), not including any endogenous protein which may have been incorporated into the microorganisms. Recent feeding schemes (e.g. ARC 1980, 1984) require an accurate value of the degradability of feed in the rumen. Abstract Following a significant production breakthrough in the deep coalbed methane (CBM) reservoir located in the Ordos Basin, developing deep CBM reservoirs has become a strategic focus for various operators across different basins in China. These deep CBM reservoirs exhibit far more intricate intrinsic mechanisms and heterogeneous properties than other unconventional reservoirs. The mineral composition and content in deep CBM are highly diverse. The storage capacity of deep CBM reservoirs is a complex interplay of cleats and various types of pores. Taro (Colocasia esculenta), a starchy root crop, is widely consumed across Asia and the Pacific and exists as different colored varieties in Hawai‘i. Although nutritional information exists for taro, there is a lack of variety-specific compositional data. In this study, the nutrient content (proximate and mineral via ICP-OES), phytochemical content (carotenoid via HPLC-PDA, total phenolic via Folin-Ciocalteau assay, and total monomeric anthocyanin via pH differential method), and carotenoid bioaccessibility (digestibility and micellarization efficiency via three-stage simulated digestion) were

Twelve carcasses were randomly selected from New Zealand White (NZW), Thai Native (N) and two reciprocal crosses between NZW and N rabbits, three from each breed group. Proximate analysis was made along with fatty acid and amino acid analysis. Percent fat and ash on dry matter basis were the only two proximate analysis found to be different among 4 breed groups (P<0.05) and N meat had more fat than N x NZW group (P<0.05). Among the 18 amino acids analysed, NZW and NZW x N meat had more proline than N x NZW group (P<0.05) and N x NZW meat contained more tryptophan than N and NZW (P<

On the surface, global gains in educating children have been remarkable. Access has expanded enormously. So, too, has knowledge about ‘best practices’—both education-sector-specific knowledge about how students learn and successful teachers teach, and knowledge about ‘best practice’ arrangements for governing education systems. Yet the combination of access and knowledge has not translated into broad-based gains in learning outcomes. Why? In seeking to address this question, a useful point of departure is the 2018 Learning World Development Report’s distinction between proximate and underlying

Households that hire domestic workers are a space of compulsive encounters where people of different origins and social class meet, experiencing physical proximity that makes the social distance that prevails between them even more noticeable. Drawing on current research and scholarship on paid domestic work in Latin America, this paper explores the different ways of analysing the encounters of women from highly unequal social positions in the narrowness of the private household, arguing that the combination of physical proximity and affective ties fosters the (re)production of social inequali

Abstract:
In the last decade, the Lower Triassic Montney Formation of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) has undergone significant development, providing a rich dataset to study structural, stratigraphic, and facies control on the variations in hydrogen sulphide (H2S) gas content. Splitting the siltstone dominated Montney into the three regional members (i.e., Lower Montney, Middle Montney, and Upper Montney) allows for detailed analysis on the enrichment of H2S within a local-scale study area in northeastern British Columbia (BC). Within this study area, Upper Montney H2S content increases wit

Abstract:
There is a need to understand Magnetic Flux Leakage (MFL) in-line inspection data and determine if it distinguishes whether a Close Metal Object (CMO) is an adjacent pipeline or independent metallic article. There have been failures associated with CMOs both in contact and in close proximity with the pipeline, specifically water lines. With the knowledge gained on the sensitivity of MFL technology to detect such objects, a process could be developed to identify those CMOs which may be a hazard to the pipeline and prioritize them for evaluation. Investments in transportation have the potential to significantly affect public health outcomes. Decisions to build highways, transit, or bikeways, for example, influence how residents and visitors move around a metropolitan area. Personal travel habits and proximity to transportation infrastructure play a role in how likely people are to be physically active or be exposed to dangerous traffic and toxic pollution. For this study, the research team reviewed the literature that links transportation infrastructure, the surrounding built environment context, and public health outcomes such as chro

This study considers existing off-grid initiatives that are being implemented in support of more rapid electrification in sub-Saharan Africa. After first reviewing the successes and obstacles of commonly implemented off-grid solutions, we suggest groundwater irrigation powered via off-grid solar (OGS) systems as a productivity-focused electrification solution that could be valuable to off-grid development initiatives moving forward. This solution encourages the establishment of OGS pumping infrastructure in unelectrified areas in proximity to nonirrigated agriculture that have promising and su
