Le prurit se définit comme une sensation désagréable conduisant au besoin de se gratter. Il s’agit donc d’une sensation bien distincte de la douleur, mais dont le retentissement est équivalent. Prurit et douleur se différencient non seulement par l’induction de réactions différentes (grattage, retrait), mais aussi par des effets plutôt opposés de la chaleur et du froid ou surtout des opiacés. Abstract:

Pruritus, or itch, is a common sensation that causes a person to want to scratch. It is a complex process that commonly occurs with skin disorders such as xerotic eczema, atopic dermatitis and urticaria. It may also be related to an underlying disease process such as cholestasis or hyperthyroidism or simply be caused by dry skin, especially in the cold. Effective treatment of pruritus can prevent scratch-induced complications such as lichen simplex chronicus and impetigo. Therapy is often aimed at eliminating the underlying cause first, followed by the management of the itchy sensation.

Abstract:

A 48 years old female patient had been suffering from the lesions presented for four years. They have started as small, pruritic patches which had been mechanically irritated and grew up in time. The patient had no associated comorbidities or allergies, and she was not under any medication. On physical examination, she presented one erythematous, exudative plaque, with dimensions of 2.5/4 cm, located on the proximal phalanx and interphalangeal articulation of the left thumb.
