This paper presents a control method for phase-shift full-bridge center-tapped (PSFB-CT) converters using hybrid fuzzy sliding mode controllers (SMCs). Conventionally, the output voltage of a PSFB-CT converter is controlled by using a proportional-integral (PI) controller. However, the dynamic characteristic of the converter is undesirable, and the converter is not robust to disturbances. In order to overcome these disadvantages, the SMC based on PI control has been applied for the PSFB-CT converter. However, there is a chattering problem when the SMC gain is increased to improve the dynamic c

Under light load conditions, the phase-shifted full-bridge (PSFB) converter often has difficulty in realizing the zero-voltage switching (ZVS) of the lagging-leg by relying on the energy of its resonant inductor; however, for the series-parallel PSFB converter applied in high-power applications, the lagging-leg still has the problem of difficult realization of ZVS. Based on this, the paper analyzes the reasons why the series-parallel PSFB converter has difficulty in achieving ZVS for the lagging-leg under light and heavy loads. In this paper, a switching method is proposed for power device temperature-balancing in a phase-shift full-bridge (PSFB) converter. PSFB is commonly used for applications that require high efficiency, because a zero-voltage switching (ZVS) operation is possible on the primary-side. In PSFB, the circulation current complicates ZVS under a light-load condition, which generates heat. Meanwhile, the heat generated in PSFB creates a temperature deviation between the lagging leg and the leading leg, which shortens the lifetime of the power device, thereby reducing system reliability and efficiency.

Several organizations promoting electrical energy efficiency, like the 80 PLUS, keep introducing higher efficiency certifications with growing requirements extending also to light loads. Therefore, a blocking capacitor can be used in series with the transformer, or peak current-mode control methods with slope compensation can be applied, to prevent transformer saturation. This report describes the development of a graphical framework enabling probabilistic assessment of surface-breaking planar defects in pipeline girth welds, in terms of multivariate limit state functions incorporating weld strength mismatch effects. This is part of an ongoing effort by the Welding Research Supervisory Committee to align girth weld fitness-for-service assessment methods with recent advancements in limit states- and reliability-based design for pipelines. A previous three-year program (PR-185-9429) by the same investigators produced a database of partial safety factors (PSFs), c

Abstract:
A Consultant’s Meeting was held to discuss the evaluation and recommendation of Photon Strength Function data following the completion of the Coordinated Research Project on the same topic in 2019. Participants discussed progress in measurements, models, systematic studies of the data, as well updates of the IAEA PSF database, and agreed on actions to maintain the database current and provide recommended PSF data. A summary of the discussions and agreed actions are provided in this report.

There were two main objectives of this research. The first objective was to verify SINTEFs' pipe/soil interaction model test results, on which the A.G.A. Level 2 and 3 soil models are based. The second objective was to quantify the amount of conservatives built into the model equations for stiffer clay soils (above 30 psf shear strength). The original testing (at SINTEF) was done in soft clay soils (30 psf), and extrapolations to stiffer soils were done very conservatively, because data was not available. To accomplish these two objectives, pipe-soil interaction model tests were conducted at T
