Metamfetamin, Dünya çapında sıklıkla suistimal edilen ve güçlü bağımlılık yapıcı etkileri olan amfetamin türevi bir maddedir. Freud je menil, da psihotične osebe niso primerne za psihoanalitično obravnavo. Značilnost psihoz je videl v odvrnitvi libida z objektov in nezmožnosti za transfer. To stališče je prvi spodbijal Federn. Kasneje so se psihoanalitiki posvečali tudi terapiji psihotičnih pacientov, pri čemer so v tehniko vnašali bistvene modifikacije.
