Abstract:
The need to provide valid and unbiased psychoeducational assessments to children from diverse racial, ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds has been a prominent legal and judicial discussion in the context of the special education law; however, the question of how to provide biased and unbiased psychoeducational assessments to children with visual or hearing impairment has not been well addressed. This article discusses the case law and mandates surrounding unbiased psychoeducational assessment and how they might apply to students with sensory disabilities. This article focuses on issue

Abstract:
Statistically significant reductions in scores from initial pretreatment testing to subsequent pretreatment testing in self-report measures are a widespread phenomenon (Arrindell, 2001). If valid, these reductions reflect improvement in psychological functioning absent any formal treatment (Arrindell, 2001). Many explanations for these reductions in scores have been offered (Arrindell, 2001) including assessment reactivity (Epstein et al., 2005), social desirability (Henderson, Byrne, & Duncan-Jones, 1981); and mechanical responding (Bromet, Dunn, Connell, Dew, & Schulberg, 1986; Durham et al.

Abstract:
A comprehensive psychoeducational assessment for a child who is having learning or behavioural difficulties is a significant event for parents. It helps them understand their child’s cognitive and learning needs, and support the ongoing development of their children by determining the educational support given at home, and additional services that need to be provided. How parents view the overall assessment and the psychologist’s recommendations can have a great impact on what decisions they make for the child following the assessment; it forms the basis for how they approach their child’s dif

Recent advances in microcomputers allowed for the development of a Computer Assisted Assessment (CAA) device which provided a higher degree of feedback and interaction for subjects than had previously been possible. This enhanced human/machine interactive capability was found to increase the comparability between a CAA device and a traditional test instrument. A counter-balanced, pre-post test comparison between the manual and CAA Raven Standard Progressive Matrices (RSPM) indicated no difference between test mediums, with the exception of the CAA pre-test requiring significantly longer for st

Abstract:
The study investigated the reasoning processes used by psychoeducational assessors in interpreting a typical case-file. The methodology used was one adapted from studies of problem-solving skills in other domains. In the models of reasoning derived from these studies, expertise was associated with extensive use of causal reasoning and with a high level of integration between a selectively narrow body of information and the proposed solutions. It was hypothesised that the reasoning processes used by experienced psychoeducational assessors would show similar properties. In addition, it was hypot
