Abstract:
The complexity of socio-psychological processes, general instability, and the moral crisis of society — all this negatively affects society as a whole, including adolescents. Family woes, parents’ asocial behavior, and lack of control over children lead to crimes committed by adolescents. There has been an increase in school crime among both female and male minors. The above circumstances indicate the existence of the problem of prevention of juvenile delinquency, including in prisons

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the issues related to the execution and serving of a life sentence, using the example of the Republic of Belarus. The criminological characteristics of convicts’ personality are given, and separate proposals are made to optimize the correctional process. The authors note that the practice of punishment execution in the Republic of Belarus is generally similar to many foreign countries. Taking into account the questionnaire compiled by the authors, the characteristics of socio-demographic, moral-psychological, criminal-legal and social-role properties of convicts sentenced to life imprisonment were determined. Thus, the age of convicted persons is from 26 to 58 years. The largest number of people is of working age. Convicts, as a rule, have a low educational level. Most of the respondents are unmarried or divorced. Most convicts do not have children. The majority of them maintain socially useful relationships with relatives. The convicts have a positive attitude to matters of faith. A quarter of them did not work anywhere before the sentencing. Most of the convicts do not have chronic diseases. At the same time, 7.4% of respondents identified themselves as having mental behavioral disorders. For a significant part of the respondents, the served sentence is the first criminal record. The psychological attitude of prisoners to the committed crimes shows that in most cases they repent of what they did and blame only themselves for what happened. A large number of convicts draw attention to themselves, because they put the lack of perspective in the foreground. Taking into account the criminological characteristics, it is concluded that a person sentenced to life imprisonment is an atypical person, in respect of whom it is advisable to apply, along with established forms and methods of correctional influence, a special technique focused on overcoming a specific psychological mood and aimed at achieving the goals of criminal responsibility.

Abstract:
Violence is an extremely prevalent problem in the United States and throughout the world, and it is a major contributing factor to increased mortality and mortalityty. These facts are well documented in the recent Report on violence and Health published by the World Health Organization. This report, which is likely to become a landmark document in the public health community, defines violence broadly as: The intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, that either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment or deprivation. This World Health Organization definition encompasses three types of violence: 1) suicide and selfharm, 2) collective violence, and 3) interpersonal violence.Interpersonal violence is defined asviolence inflicted by an individual or small group of individuals and includes youth violence, violence between intimate partners, other forms of family violence such as abuse of children and the elderly, rape and sexual assault by strangers, and violence in institutional settings such as schools, workplaces, nursing homes and prisons.

Abstract:
Surgery and anesthesia cause a significant emotional stress in both parents and children. Since the consequences of this stress develop immediately after surgery and can last even when the hospital treatment is over, the role of the anesthesiologist is to ensure psychological as well as physiological well-being of the patient. In order to reduce emotional stress induced by anesthesia and operation, the anesthesiologist has to understand certain developmental phases that children go through and to identify situations which a child could potentially see as a danger or a threat. This can usually be achieved by careful preoperative assessment and by administering preoperative sedation. During the preoperative visit to the patient, the anesthesiologist can evaluate the levels of anxiety of both parents and children as well as assess the child?s medical condition.

Abstract:
Adolescent inmates are a population that is vulnerable to depression because being a prisoner is a hard life for adolescents. All the pressure in prison will be a major cause of depression for juvenile prisoners while in detention. In addition, feelings of fear caused by public perceptions of free teenage inmates will make prisoners increasingly feel isolated. Therefore, to reduce these impacts, self-acceptance is needed. The purpose of this study is to describe the aspects of self-acceptance that exist in adolescent prisoners in prison. Samples were collected form 46 prisoners adolescents by applying the purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were self-acceptance questionnaires which has a reliability score of 0.934 (Alpha Cronbach).Data analysis used aquantitative approach with descriptive methods. The article discusses the issues related to the employment of prisoners in Poland and in other countries. The author refers to some legal provisions regulating the question of who can undertake an employment while serving time in prison, what requirements must be met by convincts who work while imprisoned. Then, the article discusses particular professions performed by prisoners. An important element of the article is also apresentation of socio-psychological aspects of rendering work while incarcerated. Since one of the reasons for writing this article was the announcement in 2016 of the “Work for prisoners” programme, a significant part of the article is devoted to discussion of this project. An attempt is made to answer the question: Has the governmental programme in question proved successful? Instrumental in answering this question is a comparison of a number of prisoners before the start of the said programme, and while being a part of its operation. The article also includes some examples of influencing prisoners already successfully implemented in other countries.

Abstract:
Abstract Diabetes mellitus type 1 (T1DM) is a chronic disease with long term consequences dictating daily struggle to maintain a good metabolic control. Children and adolescents with T1DM seem to have inferior psychological adjustment to their normal counterparts, which might be associated with glycemic control and disease duration. The aim of this study is to evaluate the psychological characteristics of children and adolescents with T1DM treated last year in the University Children Hospital in Skopje, Macedonia and to propose some response measures. For psychological evaluation we used CBCL (Child Behavior Check List), GAS (General Anxiety Scale), EPQ (Eysenck Personality Questionnaire) and MMPI-201 (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory). The results confirmed the following psychological characteristics: mild depression and anxiety, emotional instability, need for social acceptance, as well as the possible psychopathic traits. Suffering for a complex metabolic and chronic illness, these patients need psychological evaluation and intervention in the management.

Abstract:
AbstractOutcome following the treatment of congenital heart disease continues to improve and interest has focused on reducing morbidity as well as mortality. One important aspect of this is the psychological effect of congenital heart disease and its treatment on both children and their parents. This review addresses the extent and nature of the psychological morbidity associated with this disease, in particular the impact of the diagnosis on the management of patient and family. The etiology of the high level of psychosocial morbidity remains poorly understood. Data from the 1960s concerned with pre-school and school-age children is now of little value given the dramatic changes in the treatment of congenital heart disease, which is now predominantly in the neonatal period. While theory from developmental and pediatric psychology may be usefully applied to this area, further research is required to define effective psychological care for patients and their families.

Thirty-seven children with congenital ( n = 32) or post-traumatic ( n = 5) hand anomalies underwent unilateral or bilateral toe transfers. All had undergone preoperative counselling. After rehabilitation and more than 1 year after surgery, the children and their parents were reviewed by a clinical psychologist to assess the psychosocial outcome of the surgery. A high level of satisfaction was reported with regard to the surgery, in terms of function, cosmesis, donor site, psychosocial wellbeing and the reactions of others. This was true regardless of the gender of the child. However, there was a tendency for the children to be more positive in their responses than their parents.

Abstract:
The article examines the psychological features of humans entering and the subsequent stay in a hostile environment and its consequences. We made the analysis of psychological factors influencing the behavior of a soldier in captivity. The genesis of captivity was analyzed, and the mechanisms of destructive psychological influence of captors on persons who were captured were investigated. The results of the research allow forming a holistic view of the psychological factors that affect military personnel from the moment of capture to the moment of their release. Activities of international humanitarian organizations and missions, does not fully protect prisoners of war from violence. The state of constant mental stress reduces the inner life of the individual to a primitive level. It was found that the events of the captivity were extreme. They go beyond the usual human experiences and cause intense fear for their lives, as well as create feelings of helplessness. Preparations for possible capture are mandatory for all servicemen. Post-captive reintegration will help to restore mental health and return the person to a full life and performance of duties. We identified the factors that help to endure conditions of the forced isolation with minimal loss to the physical and mental health.

This article is devoted to the study of the socio-psychological aspects of the socialization of children with speech disorders. Speech defects in children are considered as a social problem that hinders their social development, complicating adaptation in society. This phenomenon is due to the fact that a violation in the speech sphere contributes to the emergence of other abnormalities, such as motor, emotional-volitional, personal, disorders in the cognitive and motivational spheres, underdevelopment of the formation of differentiation of processes, as well as limitations of verbal-logical thinking. It is shown that the insufficient number of social service institutions for the adaptation of children with speech disorders in the system of social work is a negative institutional factor.

Stuttering, as a communication disorder, is a field of great interest, with many hypothesis regarding its nature and appropriate treatment. Many studies tried to emphasize the bond between stuttering and anxiety. Frequently, stuttering is associated with strong emotional reaction, as anxiety, emphasized by negative consequences of “not being able to talk accurately”. This turns in avoidance of speak and social problems as school difficulties. The aim of this study is anxiety evaluation in children with stuttering through specialized psychological intervention. We applied MASC (Multidimensional Anxiety Scale for Children) and CDI (Child Depression Inventory) to 20 children diagnosed with stuttering, aged 6–16, from Cluj -Napoca, both at the beginning and at the end of the study. Psychological intervention consisted of two evaluation sessions (one with the parent and one with the child) and ten group sessions (psychodrama and cognitive-behavioral techniques). The results showed a significant decrease of anxiety (p < 0.05), and no difference in depression symptoms (for statistical data we used SPSS 16.0 Program).

ABSTRACT Background Oral health status of prisoners has been an area of concern worldwide. The prison population is unique in nature because of the complexities of their psychological, social and behavioral aspects. Limited oral healthcare facilities in prison settings have resulted in neglect of oral health among prisoners. Aim The present study aims to assess oral mucosal lesions among prisoners in Central Prison, Chennai. Materials and methods A cross-sectional epidemiological survey was conducted in Central Prison, Puzhal, Chennai. The study population consisted of 1060 prisoners from three divisions of the Central Prison. Oral mucosal lesions among the prisoners were assessed by a single investigator according to World Health Organization (WHO) specifications. Results The present study shows that among the study subjects, 37.7% of males and 17.1% of females developed oral mucosal lesions. The prevalence of smokers melanosis was 27.6% among males and 8.6% among females. The prevalence of oral mucosal lesions was found to be highest in study subjects of 55 years and above. Conclusion A large proportion of the study subjects had oral mucosal lesions. Oral mucosal lesions like oral submucosis fibrosis, smokers palate and smokers melanosis was found to be common among males than females. Oral healthcare facilities should be incorporated in prison settings which would intercept the progress of oral mucosal lesions. How to cite this article George B, Johny MK, Mathew TA. Abstract:
One of the main markers of socially unfavorable pregnancy is anthropometric indicators of newborns. They reflect not only the narrow medical problems of complicated gestation but also social problems in general, the quality and access to the medical care. The objective: to determine the risk factors for fetal macrosomia in pregnancy with high levels of psychosocial stress. Materials and methods. The course of pregnancy and childbirth, demographic and medical risk factors for a fetal macrosomia were analyzed in 140 pregnant women with different levels of psychosocial stress. They were divided into 2 groups: 1 group (main) – 56 women-forced migrants from Luhansk and Donetsk regions, 2 group – 84 women with low and moderate level stress according to the questionnaires and psychological tests (L. Reeder, Spielberg–Khanin scale). Results. Gestational diabetes was the main reason for the birth of heavy children in both groups. Women–forced migrants had late manifestation of impaired tolerance to carbohydrates and a higher frequency of pathological weight gain. Male neonates are at risk for macrosomia. Childbirth in women with macrosomia is accompanied by a high frequency of complications and abnormal births. Conclusions. The frequency of births of macrosomic children in women - forced migrants is higher than in women at low risk of psychosocial stress. Risk factors in this group of pregnants include: the level of stress and behavioral responses to stress, impaired carbohydrate tolerance due to gestational diabetes, abnormal weight gain due to malnutrition and male sex of the fetus. Keywords: macrosomia, pregnancy, childbirth, women–forced migrants psychosocial stress, gestational diabetes, weight gain.

Abstract:
From a legal and psychological standpoint, this article examines some aspects involved in adoption, including the effects of the alterations made to the Statute of Children and Adolescents by the National Adoption Law. It verifies whether or not the Law accelerated the performance of adoption processes. This paper is based on bibliographic searches and statistics from Rio Grande do Sul. Results show that the Law was innovative in many aspects but ceased to tackle others, such as adoption by homosexuals. Proceedings have become more bureaucratic, and the number of adoptions in the state, according to the records, remains insignificant. The New Law has not yet achieved its objective of accelerating the adoption process. Institutional sheltering, which should be temporary, at times becomes permanent, which contradicts the right of children/adolescents to family life and results in significant psychological damage to them.

Abstract:
Impairment of intelligence in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) patients was described by Duchenne de Boulogne himself in 1868. Further studies report intelligence disorders with mayor impairment of memory. The aim of the present study was to assess the presence of affective and personality disorders in a group of children affected by DMD. Twenty six male DMD patients, mean age eleven and four months years old, were assessed for their affective and personality disorder. Only eight subjects had a total IQ below average with major difficulties in verbal and visual-spatial memory, comprehension, arithmetic and vocabulary. All the subjects presented some disorders: tendency to marginalization and isolation, self-depreciation, sense of insecurity, hypochondriac thoughts and marked state of anxiety. These disorders are often a dynamic prolongation of a psychological process which starts when the diagnosis is made and continues, in a slow and latent fashion, throughout the evolution of the disease.

Abstract:
The article presents the results of a research work on the role of apathy in the formation of depression syndrome in male prisoners. Basing on the questionnaire polling results of men (N = 151) serving their sentences in one of the maximum security penal colonies in Omsk, an empirical model was built indicating that the formation of depression syndrome in male prisoners is a complex step-by-step process with early stages involving manifestation of hopelessness, boredom and loneliness and with apathy joining in at later stages. The analysis of social and demographic characteristics revealed that a prisoner's age, family situation, children, education, the sentence served or the charges of which he was convicted have no effect on his psychological symptoms (the prisoners' educational level is only found to influence the way hopelessness is experienced). The data obtained suggest that there is a necessity for educational activities in prisons and also indicate a potential utility of the results in the field of anti-crysis therapy for prisoners in Russia.

Abstract:
Left-handed is a characteristic of individual typological features of a person. At the present stage of society, solving a number of psychological problems in the traditional educational process, it is important to investigate psychophysiological peculiarities and specificity of causes of the laterality pattern’s formation in junior schoolchildren. Children with a left-sided profile are not a homogeneous group. Among the causes of left-handedness are the following: heredity or genetic left-handedness (as an individual congenital characteristic), pathological or compensatory (as a result of the compensation mechanism), forced or acquired (as a result of injury to the right hand or retraining). Recent studies describe how left-handers differ greatly from right-handed schoolchildren in their mental development, world’s perception, prevailing thinking strategies and specificity of emotional-affective expression. The reasons for this are manifold. However, the key factor is the inextricable and intimate connection of the left-handedness and the hemispheric dominance that leads to a specific functional organization, of the brain work. This means that the left-handed brain works and complies by some other rules in comparison with right-handed people. As a result they have some educational peculiarities and difficulties. In most cases, these children have difficulties in mastering oral and written language skills, numeracy and mathematical operations. A characteristic feature of left-handers is the insufficient and specific development of visual perception, which normally creates the basis for mastering reading and writing. Unfortunately children with left handedness do not receive adequate assistance in school, since education and upbringing are focused on right handed people. It is also shown that «traditional» retraining in early childhood can lead to distress, which has a negative impact on the children. Therefore, it is necessary to include in the educational process special methods and techniques. Thus it will be a favorable condition for their harmonious personal and intellectual development and effective mastering of various modules of the school curriculum. This article presents a theoretical model analysis of the causes and consequences of the development of sinistrality, briefly considered the psychological characteristics of left-handed children.
