Abstract:
The article identifies the deep causes of the new wave of minors criminalization in the Russian society. The authors considered the expert opinions on this issue and found them inconsistent; described the main forms of behavior associated with the adoption of criminal values - primary, game, and re-criminalization which usually have different social localization; summarized the historical aspects of adolescent criminalization in the Russian society and its social-cultural factors. Based on the analysis of the official statistics and the results of the empirical studies conducted in 2019-2020 within the project Deep causes of teenage (neo)criminalization in contemporary Russia supported by the RFBR, the authors assess the scale of real and virtual criminalization, features of legal outlook, social-psychological well-being, and worldview of criminalized and ordinary teenagers. In addition to the traditionally identified causes of criminalization (social-economic and cultural-educational inequality, deprivation, territorial-geographical specificity, etc.), the authors consider social-cultural factors: first, violations in socialization and child-parental relations - as leading to the deprivation of the need for love and recognition of minors by their parents and to the attempts to compensate this deprivation destructively, with criminal practices; second, the types of minors heroes, which determine the normative and gender inversion and the spread of the criminal subculture - as a source of the surrogate pseudo-masculine discourse. The authors make a conclusion that the prevention of minors criminalization should be based on psychological-pedagogical and social-cultural technologies, the main actors of which are the family, school and state information policy, while the normative-legal technologies of social control, the actors of which are administrative and law enforcement agencies, should focus on the crime-deterrent function.

Abstract:
The article deals with the relevance and social significance of the problem of identifying the determinants of delinquent behavior and factors of criminalization of minors. A statistical analysis of juvenile delinquency is provided. The purpose of the study is to analyze domestic and foreign studies of the determinants of delinquent behavior of minors. The article presents the results of theoretical analysis of foreign and domestic studies that reveal two leading groups of causes of juvenile delinquency: individual typological (a combination of personal characteristics, temperament properties, character accentuation, deformation of the value-semantic sphere of the individual, weakness of intellectual development, low academic performance, pedagogical neglect, inadequate self-esteem, a reduced level of self-control, unformed volitional qualities, socio-psychological maladaptation, inability to organize free time, etc.) and socio-psychological (family problems, violations of parent-child relationships, the breakdown of the family structure, early deprivation in the family, lack of parental involvement in the child's education, disparity of parenting styles of parents, the negative example of the impact of the reference group, dependence on deviant peers, the influence of criminal subculture, lack of social control, the availability and prevalence of negative information, social exclusion, stigma, stereotypes, etc., as well as situational circumstances – victim behavior of the victim, detection of unattended valuables, etc.). contradictions, insufficiently studied aspects, promising research directions for the causes and mechanisms of formation, as well as prevention of delinquent behavior of minors are Identified.

Abstract:
The authors of the article carry out the normative and doctrinal analysis of the terms “homelessness” and “neglect”, and identify the reasons and conditions of these antisocial phenomena in Russian society.  The research object is the legal and pedagogical aspects of the process of prevention of neglect and homelessness of minors and the activities of public authorities both in Russia and abroad. The research subject is the terms “homelessness” and “neglect” as legal terms. Special attention is given to the reasons of homelessness and neglect of juveniles, in the first place, biological and social orphanage. The research is based on the dialectical, formal-logical (dogmatical), historical-legal, systems, linguistic and some other methods of scientific cognition. The priority methods were the sociological and formal-legal methods and the method of comparative jurisprudence. The scientific novelty of the research consists in the fact that based on the analysis of legal and essential roots of the two phenomena, the authors conclude that despite being formalized, they require fundamental review of the approaches to study and identification. It is necessary to transform the understanding of the model of juvenile behaviour which is connected with the recently changed basic scientific approaches in pedagogical psychology and social pedagogics. Taking into account the size of the problem of orphanage, the authors suggest aiming public social politics not only at the protection of rights of orphans and their adoption, but also at avoiding the cases of deprivation of parental care. The most active instrument in this context is the prevention of social orphanage by the child protection services which includes pedagogical, psychological, legal, social, educational and medical assistance to families with and without family disadvantages risk factors.

Abstract:
The scientific article investigates certain aspects of deprivation of parental rights as a family legal means of protecting children. The grounds and consequences of deprivation of parental rights are analyzed. Attention is paid to the peculiarities of taking a child away from parents without depriving them of their parental rights. It is emphasized that the problem of violation of the rights of the child in the family, which is the natural environment for the development and upbringing of a child, is not only a moral problem of society, but also requires effective legal means of protecting children, incl. family law. Although the list of grounds for deprivation of parental rights established by the Family Code is exhaustive and cannot be interpreted broadly, it contains a number of evaluative concepts, the interpretation and assessment of which must be carried out in each specific case by the court. It is indicated that a characteristic feature of deprivation of parental rights as an exclusive means of family law, applies to parents who do not fulfill their duties, is exclusively a judicial procedure for deprivation of parental rights. It is emphasized that the legal consequence of deprivation of a person's parental rights is the termination of family legal relations between parents and a child. At the same time, the application of a family legal sanction in the form of deprivation of parental rights does not mean the deprivation of paternity as a biological connection between the child and the parents and the complete termination of the legal connection between them. It is noted that the interests of the child can be protected through the removal of the child from the parents without deprivation of parental rights. The basis for this decision is that leaving the child with them is dangerous to his life, health and moral education. The only criterion that makes it possible to distinguish between deprivation of parental rights and the removal of a child without deprivation of parental rights is the degree of guilt of the parents.

Abstract:
Data to demonstrate that psychosocial factors, sensory deprivation, or sleep deprivation alone can cause delirium are few. Nonetheless, these factors or conditions may contribute to the development or symptom presentation of a delirium when other metabolic or toxic etiologies are present. There is likewise little research on the appropriate treatment of the delirious patient. Clinical experience suggests that attention to the patient's psychological state through frequent orientation, emotional support, and frequent explanation can help. Low-dose neuroleptic drugs are occasionally useful and necessary.

Harper, Mairi. "Coping and outcomes following parental bereavement." Thesis, University of Stirling, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/1893/3012.

Full text
Abstract:
Background This thesis addresses the topic of parental bereavement, using a multi-method approach. It aims to add to knowledge about the phenomenon of parental bereavement, outcomes for bereaved parents following the loss of their child, and factors associated with these outcomes. Method An initial literature study and qualitative investigation were carried out. Findings from these informed the choice of quantitative variables to be tested in a group of parents in early and mid-bereavement. Census records were used to provide information on long term health and social outcomes. Results The literature related to the parent’s experience following the death of their child is limited. The qualitative study indicated a variety of factors for testing, related to the circumstances of the loss, continuing bonds with the deceased child, restoration-oriented stressors, for example, employment and relationship problems, and ruminative behaviours. In early bereavement, lower grief levels were found in people who had displayed cognitive restructuring behaviours. Grief and depression were prevalent, and were found to exist independently. Rumination was associated with grief and depression in mid-bereavement. Grief was predicted by depression and self-blame and depression was, in turn, predicted by rumination and education level. Rates of mothers returning to work following the loss of a child in the first year of life were lower than those whose child lived. Mortality rates were up to four times higher in bereaved parents than non-bereaved comparisons, up to 35 years post-loss. Conclusions The loss of a child has ongoing social, emotional and health consequences for parents. Social factors are a particularly important issue, and therapeutic interventions may benefit from reducing negative aspects of coping such as rumination rather than promoting specific coping strategies. Support for bereaved parents should come from a number of sources, in order to address their complex and potentially long-term needs.

Abstract:
Differences between joint custody and mother custody families were assessed. The sample consisted of 42 post divorce families which had a child between the age of 4 and 15 years and resided in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. This cross sectional, multimethod, quasi-experimental study examined two groups of divorced families. The experimental group consisting of 21 joint custody families, was compared to the control group, consisting of 21 mother custody families. Families were matched between the two groups based on the child's gender, age and time lapse since parental separation. Within each family, interviews were conducted with one parent and with the parent's permission, a target child. Besides the interview, parents completed a questionnaire and the Child Behavior Checklist. Only 19 parents gave permission for their child to be interviewed. Parents completed a questionnaire and the Child Behavior Checklist.

De, Jager Melissa. "The development of a parental alienation syndrome interview protocol." Thesis, Rhodes University, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10962/d1008212.

Full text
Abstract:
Parental Alienation Syndrome (PAS) is a childhood disorder that arises almost exclusively in child custody disputes. Its primary manifestation is the unjustified rejection of a once-loved parent by a child due to a combination of the 'programming' parent's alienating techniques and the child's own contributions to the vilification of the targeted parent. Parental Alienation (PA) is differentiated from PAS as in the case of the former the child's rejection is justified and may be explained either by normal developmental behaviours or by child abuse that involves no form of programming. The purpose of this study is to develop a preliminary interview protocol to aid in the detection of PAS, with a special emphasis on differentiating false allegations of abuse, which usually accompany severe PAS, from true abuse. The aim of the study is to develop a protocol to enhance diagnostic clarity and facilitate appropriate custody-related recommendations. The interview protocol is based on an extensive thematic literature analysis in conjunction with existing guidelines for conducting a child custody and visitation interview. The interview protocol comprises a child and parent section, which both have their own reference tables with supporting corresponding information. The protocol 's administration instructions are outlined in a covering information page. Rigour was added to the protocol by having it assessed for clarity and accessibility by four medico-legal professionals with custody-related experience, and their opinions regarding the protocol's structure, sections, questions and reference tables were taken into consideration in the revision of the protocol.

Kothari, Brianne H. "Parental Differential Treatment (PDT) of Siblings: Examining the Impact and Malleability of Differential Warmth and Hostility on Children's Adjustment." PDXScholar, 2010. https://pdxscholar.library.pdx.edu/open_access_etds/49.

Full text
Abstract:
Parental differential treatment (PDT), the within-family differences in parenting experienced by siblings (Rivers & Stoneman, 2008), has been linked to detrimental adjustment outcomes for children (e.g., Conger & Conger, 1994). The primary goal of this research was to more closely examine how differential treatment in two domains of parent-child relations-displays of warmth and hostility- were associated with child outcomes. A secondary data analysis was conducted on a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) of a parent training intervention. Participants in this sample were high risk children and families, and they were randomly assigned to one of three groups: an intensive parent training program, the parent training program plus a sibling intervention, or the community control group. Data were collected by multiple methods and from multiple reporting agents. Using baseline data from children (both older and younger siblings), mothers, observers and teachers, this study examined PDT agreement across two or more informants and whether PDT agreement was linked to child outcomes and also explored the extent to which these PDT domains were associated with both older and younger sibling's antisocial behavior. Using data collected at baseline and conclusion of the intervention from multiple informants, the study investigated whether the parenting intervention moderated the effect of PDT and the extent to which PDT was malleable. Agreement across two or more reporting agents of high PDT, especially for PDT-Hostility, was associated with worse outcomes for those children compared to children in the more egalitarian group. This research replicated previous studies in demonstrating that PDT is associated with negative child outcomes in some circumstances even when controlling for other child factors. The results from exploratory analyses in this study do not provide support for the idea that PDT is altered after participation in a parenting intervention; however, the findings do provide some evidence that the intervention moderates PDT. Specifically, negative PDT directed at the older sibling was more likely to be associated with negative outcomes in the absence of the intervention. Potential explanations for these findings are presented, and implications for future research are discussed.

Abstract:
The monograph is a comprehensive study of the current practice of resolving cases on determining the place of residence of children, the procedure for communicating with them separately living parents and other relatives; restriction and deprivation of parental rights; on the departure of children outside the Russian Federation and return within the framework of the Convention on Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction of 1980, the Convention on Jurisdiction, Applicable Law, Recognition and Enforcement and Cooperation in relation to Parental Responsibility and Measures for the Protection of children of 1996.The relations that develop between the child and parents, the child and the court, parents and the court, as well as parents as parties to the process are analyzed. The central place is occupied by the study of the content of the concept of the best interests of the child as a guarantee of the protection of his rights and the vector of development of the current legislation. The cases of abuse of parental rights and improper performance (or non-performance) of parental duties, illustrated by current judicial practice, are considered. The analysis is presented: measures of family legal responsibility, including restriction and deprivation of parental rights in connection with non-execution of a court decision on the upbringing of a child; features of the application of principle 6 of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in resolving disputes about the place of residence of children; the possibility of taking interim measures in disputes between parents about upbringing; the ratio of legal and psychological categories in child-parent relations in order to apply special knowledge; the procedure for conducting forensic examinations in these categories of cases. Finally, the possibilities of out-of-court settlement of some family disputes, including through mediation, are investigated. For a wide range of readers interested in the rights of the child. It will be useful for students, postgraduates and teachers of law schools.

Abstract:
The process of reforming the state care system for orphans and children deprived of parental care requires research to study the gender aspects of foster parenthood, which affect the distribution of roles in the private family sphere, strategies for raising orphans and children deprived of parental care. The article covers the problem of gender stereotypes of candidates for foster parents, which determine their vision of social and psychological characteristics and expectations of women and men. The results of the study of femininity and masculinity stereotypes using the Bem Sex-Role Inventory and the assessment of ambivalent sexism in the attitudes toward women and men using a short version of the methodology of P. Glick and S. Fiske. It is established that candidates for foster parents demonstrate a greater extent of benevolent rather than hostile sexism and describe a generalized image of women and men as androgynous individuals, but almost a third of respondents' responses concerning women show high indicators on the femininity scale, and concerning men - on the masculinity scale. High levels of hostility to feminism, especially among women, have been reported. Author emphasizes the importance of introducing special training programs for candidates for foster parents in order to disseminate attitudes that correspond to contemporary views of egalitarian family patterns.

Abstract:
In most of medicine, legal situations are rarely encountered, typically related to complaints or complex ethical issues. Unusually, psychiatry is closely connected with the law, with most psychiatrists dealing with legal issues on a daily basis. There are three main areas of law which are relevant to psychiatry: … 1 Civil law relating to the involuntary admission and treatment of patients with mental disorders (in the UK, this is outlined in the Mental Health Act (MHA) 2007). 2 Civil law concerning issues of consent, capacity, and deprivation of liberty (Mental Capacity Act 2005 including Deprivation of Liberty Safeguarding (DoLS)). 3 Criminal law as it relates to individuals with mental disorders. … There are various reasons why knowledge of mental health legislation is helpful to all clinicians: … ● Laws and official guidelines provide backing to some aspects of ethical decision- making within medicine. ● The law regulates the circumstances under which treatment can be given without patients’ consent. All doctors may encounter situations in which patients refuse essential treatment, and may have to decide whether to invoke powers of compulsory admission and/ or best interest treatments. ● Doctors may be asked for reports used in legal decisions, such as the capacity to make a will or claims for compensation for injury. They may be asked for reports that set out the relationship between any psychiatric disorder and criminal behaviour. ● A minority of patients behave in ways that break the law. Doctors need to understand legal issues as part of their management of care. ● Victims of crime may suffer immediate and long-term psychological or physical consequences. … This chapter will describe the main principles of mental health legislation with particular reference to UK law. While some of the detail discussed (e.g. particular definitions or legislative act numbers) may not be relevant to international readers, legal frameworks across the globe are broadly similar. Information of mental health legislation in most countries is now easily available online. The latter part of the chapter will provide an overview of the relationship between mental disorders and crime.

Abstract:
This chapter considers the meaning and importance of more psychological aspects of the private home. Homeownership has been argued to provide us with a deep sense of security of being in troubled times, when trust in community has been lost. Psychoanalytic and sociological theories of consumption practices are used here to examine the role of psychic development as it occurs within the home. Two functions of the home in particular are examined here, illustrated through fairy stories, fiction and films. First, the home's role as a bridge or mediator to the public world outside the home, meaning that a child's preparation for the outside world is largely dependent on parental perceptions of risk and insecurity. Second, the private (fearful) world inside what Freud termed the unheimlich home, hiding dreadful secrets. The current emphasis on control of outsiders' access to the home, and the developing culture of respecting others' homes as entirely private places, may make the home a domestic prison for its less powerful residents: women and children. Feminist analyses of the development of gender roles in the home and data on domestic violence show the dark underbelly of the sanctified private home. Although some homes are havens, others can be the site of domestic slavery and even more disturbing examples of power and abuse, such as Fred West, and the imprisonment of Fritzl's daughter in Austria and Jaycee Dugard in the US.

"Lack of parental interaction and support has consistently been found to be crippling to the development of young children. Spitz's (1945,1947) widely quoted study of foundling homes versus nursery care related maternal and social deprivation to increased infant mortality, susceptibility to disease, retardation in growth, and failure to achieve developmental milestones. Whereas the Spitz study compared the effects of interaction between two highly specialized environments, McCarthy and Booth (1970) found evidence of a syndrome resembling Spitz' "hospitalism" occurring in children living at home with their parents. The most prominent abnormalities they described were dwarfism and subnormal weight/height ratios, interestingly, with little or no evidence of malnutrition. Behaviorally, the children exhibited varying degrees of bodily neglect, apathy, subnormal intelligence, and the inability to play. When these children from 10 families were removed from their homes and placed in the hospital, where it is assumed that a different type of interaction occurred between them and the staff than occurred in their homes, their symptoms, including the dwarfism, were reversed in most cases. While this study was focused explicitly on mothers, like so many studies of mother-infant interaction, the kind of relationship that developed could not have been made possible without either the absence of a father or other available caregiver(s). Behind many studies of negative dyadic interactions is a larger family drama. Such patterns are significantly more difficult to conceptualize and to investi-gate than the study of dyads. At the opposite end of the Ufe cycle, a study by Greene, Goldstein, and Moss (1972) of the psychosocial aspects of sudden death found that among men who developed myocardial infarction, considerable psychological distress had been evoked by circumstances in which there were departures or current disappointing conflicts between the patient and son or daughter, especially a son. Van Heijingen (1966) noted a similar pattern when he reported that rejection by a loved one frequently preceded the clinical emergence of coronary disease. Loss of social supports—particularly loss of a spouse—has been implicated over and over again in rapidly deteriorating health and, not uncommonly, death. Studies of psychosocial correlates of the onset of cancer repeatedly point to torn family relationships as high risk factors in the development of cancer. Similarly, when Parkes, Benjamin, and Fitzgerald (1969) followed the death rates of 4,486 widowers of 55 years of age and older for 9 years fol-lowing the death of their wives, they found that 213 died during the first 6 months of bereavement, 40% over the expected death rate for married men." Abstract:
"The main objective of this study was to examine the relationship between parental educational styles, perfectionism in children, and the quality of adult sibling relationships. Additionally, the goal is to determine whether parental educational styles represent a significant predictor of perfectionism and quality of relationship between adults. The research was conducted on a sample of 200 respondents, students of the Faculty of Philosophy, the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Sciences and Mathematics in Niš. EMBU questionnaires were used to examine the parental educational styles, the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale (MPS), and the KOBS Questionnaire on the quality of relationships with siblings in adulthood. The starting hypotheses have been partially confirmed and new questions have been raised about these constructs and their relationship. Statistically significant predictors of different aspects of perfectionism that were measured were a) significant predictors for the aspect of Parental Expectations were the following parental educational styles Overprotective mother (?=0.375, p=0.003) and Father’s Favoritism (?=-0.186, p=0.035), b) a significant predictor for the aspect of Organization was the following educational style Mother’s Emotional Warmth (?=0.335, p=0.031); c) significant predictors for Parental Criticism were the following educational styles Father’s Rejection (?=0.254, p=0.009) and Mother’s Emotional Warmth (?= -0.437, p=0.000), d) the significant predictor of Personal Standards was Overprotective mother (?= 0.307; p=0.042), e) significant predictors for Concern over Mistakes, were the following educational styles Parental Inconsistency (?=0.160; p=0.048) and Mother’s Emotional Warmth (?= -0.308, p=0.027), f) significant predictors of Doubts about Actions were the following educational styles, Parental Inconsistency (?=0.235, p=0.007), Overprotective mother (?= 0.304, p=0.035) and Mother’s Favoritism (?=0.222, p=0.028). When it comes to the quality of relationship between brothers and sisters, parental educational styles are also significant predictors of various aspects of those relationships. We are pointing out the most important results. Statistically significant predictors of the subscale Competition between siblings were the educational styles Father’s Rejection (?=0.469, p=0.000), Mother’s Favoritism (?=0.475, p=0.000), Father’s Favoritism (?=-0.196, p=0.029), and Mother’s Emotional Warmth (?=-0.313, p=0.019). Statistically significant predictors for the subscale Closeness or Warmth between siblings were the following educational styles Mother’s Rejection (?=-0.456, p=0.006) and Father’s Emotional Warmth (?=0.391, p=0.002). Statistically significant predictors for subscale the Conflict between siblings were the following educational styles Father’s Rejection (?=0.355, p=0.003) and Mother’s Favoritism (?=0.337, p=0.000). These results show that both rejection and favoritism by the parents contribute to the development of less desired relationships between siblings. Overprotective parents, inconsistency and favoritism of a child contribute to less desired aspects of perfectionism. Additional analysis of connection between perfectionism and relationship between siblings revealed that the less desired aspects of perfectionism are connected with bad relationships between siblings. The only exception is the aspect of Organization as it is connected with emotional and instrumental support, familiarity, closeness and admiration between siblings."
