Abstract:
The article deals with the phenomenon of aggression as a social phenomenon that has both social and biological (psychological) conditions. Based on the analysis of scientific sources the author has classified the types of aggression, emphasizing that the typology depends on the division criterion. The research results are based on the most commonly used classification of aggression into physical, verbal (psychological) and self-aggression. Particular attention is paid to the socio-cultural determinants of aggression and violence among young people, including the models of aggression that young people observe in a close surrounding (family, educational environment) and in a remote surrounding (media, Internet, television programs). It has been stressed that the circumstances aggravating the manifestations of aggression are the use of alcohol, drugs, computer addiction. The article emphasizes that the likelihood of manifestation of aggressive forms of behaviour depends on the frequency of aggression in the environment, on manifestations of aggression by authority figures (for example, educators), on the observation of the benefits of aggression (for example, in the form of an advantage gained), as well as on the frequency of opportunities for aggressive behaviour. The article emphasizes that not only victims of aggression, but also aggressors need help. In order to counteract aggression as part of a young person’s social life, it is not enough to identify the problem – it is important to eliminate the causes of aggression. Restricting, preventing and countering this phenomenon require an effective network of social services, as well as the activation of local communities. On the example of the programs for preventing and eliminating aggression in the Republic of Poland the author proves that assistance aimed at stopping aggression should be taken not only for a young person’s personal well-being but also through the social and psychological consequences of this phenomenon.

Abstract:
The article focuses on the problems of bullying. Legal and socio-psychological aspects are analyzed in order to further prevention and improvement of the methods counteracting this phenomenon. In particular, the stages of development of the problem are drawn, special attention is paid to research in which it is possible to develop a plan of action to prevent bullying in educational institutions. Bullying is one of the most uncertain and debatable definitions that needs further study. Systematic, regularly repeated violence (mostly psychological) is the main feature of bullying. Scientists D. Olveus, P. Randall, N. Duncanson and others have studied the problem of bullying. The article reveals the legal aspect of bullying, namely legal liability (administrative and criminal). The content of the Law of Ukraine “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine about Countering Bullying (Harassment)” of December 18, 2018 №2657-VIII and other regulations are analyzed. Methods to counter bullying such as the Farst, Link crew and the Finnish KiVa method are presented. Development of an action plan, aimed at preventing and combating bullying (harassment) in educational institutions, is among the ways of solution the problem. Thus, bullying is the worldwide problem. This problem is called socio-psychological which leads to destruction of the personal character. According to the authors, education from childhood is necessary. A person should know, already in his adolescence, that he can be prosecuted criminally or administratively for illegal actions. Bullying is violence, therefore science of law must be taught. This problem mustn`t be ignored because it could lead to irreparable consequences and ruin lives of many people. The authors note that it is impossible to eradicate bullying but it is possible to minimize such cases. Key words: bullying, participants of the educational process, violence, school aggression, preventing, offence.

Abstract:
As a social-psychological attribute affecting attitudes and behavior, religiosity should influence television use. We expected religious conservatives and non-conservatives to differ in viewing motives, watching programs containing sex and violence, and TV attitudes. We administered questionnaires to 346 religious conservatives, moderates and liberals. Analyses of covariance and partial correlations suggested that, as compared with non-conservatives, conservatives were less motivated to watch television because of sexual appeal of characters, watched fewer programs with sexual content and felt television was less important in their lives.

Abstract:
The debate on objectivist versus relativist epistemologies in psychology and their relation to “othering” should consider a third stance that espouses epistemic pluralism. In order to understand the human experience, we must simultaneously explore the universal–humanistic, cultural, and idiographic aspects of the individual. Each of these aspects entails a different epistemic stance (objective, intersubjective, and subjective) and each assigns different meanings to “othering.” In addition, a pragmatic epistemology that posits “progressivism” as its sole agenda risks the epistemic violence of discounting other sets of values and moral foundations that matter to many (often othered) people. Additional steps are needed in order to truly diversify psychological study.

Abstract:
For 18 years, Northern Ireland has suffered a changing pattern of civil disorder. Early years were marked by widespread sectarian rioting, shootings, and bombings, which heightened community tension and caused much social and commercial disruption. However, in recent years, terrorist organisations have been more selective in their acts of violence. There are methodological difficulties in assessing the psychological impact of civil disorder and terrorism. But, as well as can be judged from community surveys, hospital admissions and referral data, psychotropic drug usage, suicide and attempted suicide rates, and from assessment of the actual victims of violence, society has not ‘broken down’ nor has the impact been judged considerable. Possible explanations are discussed.

Abstract:
Domestic violence is a cycle of various harassment in which the abuser can be any member of the family. Both media and research on domestic violence focus on the behaviour of adult family members, while there is a lack of research analysing child abuse, for example against their parents. The current legal framework establishes the procedure for bringing an abusive person to justice, however, the provided sanctions do not apply to a child being violent in case the offense is not of a criminal nature. The study presents the research in two parts, the first part, indicating the psychological and pedagogical aspects of the problem, and the second - the problem of the legal regulation of liability. The aim of the study was to analyse the regulatory framework, which determines the child's responsibility in cases of child-to-parent violence, to identify the problems of the legal framework and to develop proposals for the improvement of the legal framework. The study was developed interdisciplinary, performing the analysis of national and international legal acts, analysing statistical data and research on current issues. Analytical and descriptive method, grammatical, historical, teleological and systemic interpretation methods were used in the study. As a result of the research, a number of problems were identified. These were related to the identification of a child being violent, the rights and responsibilities of the family and society in cases of escalating violence, as well as the issue of taking responsibility for the child's violence. At the same time, it was concluded that cases of violence by children to parents are difficult to identify, which may be due to the parent-child relationship and ignorance of the parent's problem, resulting in a formal determination of the child's responsibility in case of violence. In turn, the legal framework should strengthen not only the procedure of holding the children responsible for their violent behavior, but also to call for interdisciplinary prevention of violence committed by children.

Abstract:
This article reports a study of how mothers perceive the effects of intimate partner violence (IPV) during pregnancy and children’s exposure to IPV: (a) Do interactional aspects of IPV have a negative impact on the fetus during pregnancy or on the newborn baby? and (b) Is there a relationship between interactional aspects of IPV and (a) children’s risk of being exposed to IPV and (b) the age of the child when at risk for exposure to IPV? A representative sample of 137 IPV help-seeking mothers in Norway was interviewed. Severity of physical IPV and injury from sexual IPV increased the risk of consequences to the fetus. Frequency of physical and psychological IPV increased the likelihood of children’s exposure. Duration of the partnership increased the risk of children’s exposure to physical and sexual IPV. Finally, there was a negative linear association between children’s age when exposed for the first time and frequency of physical and psychological IPV.

Abstract:
In this paper we analyse child viewers’ interpretation of television violence shown in television programmes specifically aimed at children. The justification for this work is based on the research that considers that more theoretical and empirical studies need to be carried out on the conceptualisation of violence, and about how much violence is legitimised and through what mechanisms such legitimacy is constructed. It is aimed at providing a notion of television violence as interpreted by child television viewers which takes these mechanisms into account. The methodology used is based on an analysis of the content and the dialogue of in-depth interviews conducted with sixteen children under the age of 12 years, after showing them two sequences of television programmes with types and various formalisation of fictional violence. The results, as well as providing a conceptual map of the responses, also show how children define and differentiate different types of violence. We can also verify how their reception process is framed by their cultural history and specific reading and consumption experiences, in which contextual narrative aspects play a very important role in children’s interpretation of violence. Thus, the results of this study indicate how children give an unrestricted significance to violence.

Abstract:
Despite ongoing local and international peace efforts, the Jews, Arabs, and other residents of Israel and the Palestinian territories (i.e., the West Bank and Gaza) have endured decades of political, social, and physical upheaval, with periodic eruptions of violence. It has been theorized that the psychological impact of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict extends beyond the bounds of psychiatric disorders such as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Exposure to the ongoing conflict may lead to changes in the way Israelis and Palestinians think, feel, and act; while these changes may not meet the thresholds of PTSD or depression, they nonetheless could have a strong public health impact. It is unclear whether existing studies have found associations between exposure to the conflict and nonclinical psychological outcomes. We conducted a systematic review to synthesize the empirical research on the Israeli–Palestinian conflict and its psychological consequences. As a whole, the body of literature we reviewed suggests that exposure to regional political conflict and violence may have detrimental effects on psychological well-being and that these effects likely extend beyond the psychiatric disorders and symptoms most commonly studied. We found evidence that exposure to the conflict informs not only the way Israelis and Palestinians think, feel, and act but also their attitudes toward different religious and ethnic groups and their degree of support for peace or war. We also found that Palestinians may be at particularly high risk of experiencing psychological distress as a result of the conflict, though more research is needed to determine the extent to which this is due to socioeconomic stress. Our review suggests the need for more studies on the nonclinical psychological aspects of the Israeli–Palestinian conflict as well as for longitudinal studies on the impact of the conflict on both Israelis and Palestinians.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the analysis of the aspects of providing legal assistance to women victims of domestic violence in Ukraine. Due to our analysis, we have demonstrated that in Ukraine, legislative documents have been developed at the legislative level to prevent domestic violence and the observance of women’s rights, and forms of domestic violence have been identified (psychological, physical, sexual). The main standards of the regulatory framework of Ukraine are consistent with the Istanbul Convention. In practical work, law enforcement agencies interact with social services, medical institutions, forensic medical examinations and many others to provide timely, fullfledged assistance to women in cases of detected domestic violence, and in each case develop a system of measures to prevent, promote and prevent domestic violence. A positive aspect in the modern legislation of Ukraine was the establishment of restrictive measures for persons who committed domestic violence in the form of a ban on staying in a place of cohabitation with a person who suffered from domestic violence; prohibitions of approaching a place or person who has suffered from domestic violence, etc. Attention is drawn to the fact that for the first two violations, the person who committed domestic violence can be held administratively liable, and for the third time, criminal liability. Recommendations are given on conducting a forensic examination in cases of domestic violence against women, in which, in addition to the mandatory points reflected in the Rules for the Examination of Victims, Accused and Other Persons, aspects of an ethical approach are noted to reduce the psychological trauma of women during examination. It was emphasized that the issue of beatings, torment and torture falls within the competence of the bodies of pre-trial investigation/court and is not the competence of forensic medical examination.

Violence, in its criminal and political aspects, largely reflects the contradictory impulses set in motion by modernization and serves as an expression of the various dislocations — social, economic, psychological and cultural — which accompany that process. Violence increases when the prevailing institutions fail to mediate among the various antagonistic forces unleashed by socio-economic and political change. Colombia represents a country where violence has risen overwhelmingly in recent years, reaching extremes of both extent and duration. A phenomenon well worth scholarly attention, the subject of violence has given rise to an impressive body of literature concerned with exploring its many aspects: its causes, trajectory, and variety of manifestations (see Sánchez, 1991).

Abstract:
Intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW) is the most pervasive violation of women’s rights worldwide, causing devastating lifelong damage. Victims can suffer physical, emotional or mental health problems, and experience detrimental effects in social, psychological and relational health with their families, especially children. Due to the complexity regarding violence against women in heterosexual couples, it is important to make a clear distinction between psychological and physical mistreatment, which also includes psychological violence. This differentiation is important in determining different emotional and psychological aspects of mistreatment in order to understand the reasons why some women stay in such relationships and to explain the personality profiles of victims and perpetrators. In this short narrative review, we have combined perspectives of depth psychology and attachment theory from studies on trauma, traumatic bonds and the perpetrator/victim complex in gender violence. We have also considered the growing literature on IPVAW as it relates to the medico-legal field. Our search strategy included intimate partner violence, attachment styles, risk factors and the victim/perpetrator relationship. Distinguishing the different types of IPVAW is a necessary step in understanding the complexity, causes, correlations and consequences of this issue. Above all, it enables the implementation of effective prevention and intervention strategies.

Abstract:
IntroductionMale and female social roles were built on a historical inequality. Gender violence is a public health problem of the first order. We consider it important to conduct a study to improve diagnosis and interventions. From the Theory of Roles Moreno, each role has a complementary role that maintains the link. In gender violence predominates control, domination, submission and asymmetry of functions as dysfunctional elements of a relationship, which should be symmetrical.MethodologyWe reviewed 48 stories of women who come for abuse mental health team from 2013 to 2016. We analyzed the following aspects: socio-demographic data (age, nationality, marital status, education, jobs, dependent children); reason for consultation and number of queries; violence; roles, because of maintenance and interventions.ResultsEighty percent Spanish. It occurs at all levels of education; 60% have children; 70% were derived from primary care for others reasons; almost 90% suffered psychological violence, 25% physical and economic, sexual only 3 women, 52.08% of women adopt a submissive role, passive-aggressive 20.83% and 25% ambivalent; maintenance of the violence is reinforced by the psychological dependence that occurs in all women (one in 45.83%).ConclusionsRoles analysis is an effective method in the diagnosis of abuse and designing appropriate intervention. Psychotherapy, benefits of a psychopharmacological treatment that lessens the suffering and lets face their difficulties. It is important to ask about abuse at any level of care, because it contributes more to cover a hidden reality. The Psychological and economic dependence. Abstract:
Recent ‘reality TV’ formats, such as Channel Ten's Big Brother, exhibit many features of ethnography, and attend to ‘real’ aspects of human behaviour in ways reminiscent of experimental psychological simulations of institutional roles conducted in the 1960s. Reality TV integrates and re-mixes genres of observational cinema and of game shows and situation comedy, purporting to reveal the very nature of people stripped of their conventional social support and competing for biological or social rewards. Yet these formats construct tight, artificial recontextualisations of existing social practices (around sex, courtship, work). Controlled, scripted games are therefore played out which beg the question of how ‘naturally’ people do (or should) behave, both in ‘reality’ and on television.

The spectatorial relationship between sporting events and theatrical performance, based on recent sociological studies, reveals much about the nature of any audience position, and raises issues of class, economic status, and gender. Despite the heavy commodification and internationalization of professional sport, fans retain a remarkable sense of psychological investment in home teams, centred around notions of civic pride and communal ownership. They ardently follow the fortunes of their sides in a manner rarely associated with any other form of entertainment, a devotion that can lead to notable violence. Sporting events also constitute one of the few remaining examples of live television broadcasts. Television extends the implications of the sports spectator enormously, and is the foundation of the globalization of sports, but it also affects live audiences through the mediatization of some events.

Abstract:
The problem of domestic violence is quite urgent in our country. Domestic violence is a heavy burden both for the victim and for society in the whole. Typically, the most vulnerable family members who suffer from domestic violence are women, children and the elderly, and the perpetrators are most often men. But a child can also commit domestic violence, as evidenced by the legal definition of the term of “a child- abuser”. However, this phenomenon is insufficiently studied and is rarely discussed by Ukrainian scholars. The purpose of this article is to study measures to combat domestic violence committed by children by analyzing the current legislation of Ukraine in the field of preventing and combating domestic violence and gender-based violence. The author has analyzed the definition of the term of “a child-abuser” enshrined in the law. On this basis it has been concluded that a child of any age can be an abuser. It has been established that children most often commit domestic violence in psychological, physical and economic forms. The emphasis has been placed on the inexpediency of bringing parents or persons replacing them to administrative liability under Part 3 of the Art. 184 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses in cases, when their child, who has not reached the age of administrative liability, is the offender, and his victim is a father (mother) or a person who replaces them. The author has analyzed the algorithm of actions, according to which the police now act in case of detection of facts of domestic violence by a child under the age of sixteen. It has been found out that the legislation does not set the age from which such a special measure to combat domestic violence is allowed to be taken as an urgent prohibition, which is the basis for taking a child-abuser for preventive registration by juvenile prevention units. It has been noted that the settlement of this issue will allow us to make informed decisions on the registration or non-registration of a child-abuser who has not reached the age of sixteen and has committed domestic violence against parents, which will further affect the determination of the subject of individual prevention.

AbstractObjectiveTo investigate the direct and indirect associations between psychological and physical intimate partner violence and the occurrence of common mental disorders (CMD) and how they relate to the occurrence of household food insecurity (HFI).DesignThis was a population-based cross-sectional study. Intimate partner violence was assessed using the Brazilian version of the Revised Conflict Tactics Scale (CTS2) and HFI was assessed using the Brazilian Food Insecurity Scale. The propositional analytical model was based on a review of the literature and was tested using path analysis.SettingDuque de Caxias, Greater Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (April–December 2010).SubjectsWomen (n 849) who had been in a relationship in the 12 months preceding the interview.ResultsBoth psychological and physical violence were found to be major risk factors of HFI. Psychological violence was associated with HFI indirectly via physical violence and CMD, and directly by an unidentified path. The effects of physical violence seemed to be manifested exclusively through CMD. Most of the variables in the propositional model related to socio-economic position, demographic characteristics, degree of women’s social support and partner alcohol misuse were retained in the ‘final’ model, indicating that these factors contribute significantly to the increased likelihood of HFI.ConclusionsThe results reinforce the importance of considering domestic violence and other psychosocial aspects of family life when implementing interventions designed to reduce/eradicate HFI.

Abstract:
It is widely assumed that psychopathic behaviour arises from unsatisfactory parenting, but upbringing difficulties are equally apparent in other psychiatric disorders. The poor response to psychological treatments is noteworthy and organic features, of a specific type, have been implicated. The most recent evidence strongly supports earlier findings of a genetic factor. Damage or malfunction of the left temporal lobe of the brain, or of the frontal area, are associated with violent psychopathic behaviour. Dysfunction in these same areas has also been found in schizophrenic patients and there is a genetic relationship between psychopathy and schizophrenia. It is concluded that organic factors probably underpin some psychopathic behaviour, a situation which may affect our attitudes.

The article examines the psychological features of humans entering and the subsequent stay in a hostile environment and its consequences. We made the analysis of psychological factors influencing the behavior of a soldier in captivity. The genesis of captivity was analyzed, and the mechanisms of destructive psychological influence of captors on persons who were captured were investigated. The results of the research allow forming a holistic view of the psychological factors that affect military personnel from the moment of capture to the moment of their release. Activities of international humanitarian organizations and missions, does not fully protect prisoners of war from violence. The state of constant mental stress reduces the inner life of the individual to a primitive level. It was found that the events of the captivity were extreme. They go beyond the usual human experiences and cause intense fear for their lives, as well as create feelings of helplessness. Preparations for possible capture are mandatory for all servicemen. Post-captive reintegration will help to restore mental health and return the person to a full life and performance of duties. We identified the factors that help to endure conditions of the forced isolation with minimal loss to the physical and mental health.

Abstract:
There are times when neglect or verbal abuse can be nearly as traumatic as physical assault. The social problem of violence relies on the fields of psychology and criminal justice to gain a deeper understanding of aggressive behaviour. These issues are especially troubling in children, who may not have the power to defend themselves, along with other members of special populations. Experiences of trauma during human development can also come with new challenges, such as altered family values through learned behaviors. Aggression is can be learned from family members or close relatives through modeling acts of anger. The reasons underlying child abuse is explored to raise awareness on this serious issue in society. The cycle of violence is also discussed in detail. And the adverse effects of abuse and neglect are emphasized. These concepts include negative health risks, such insomnia, drug use, and nicotine dependence. Other detrimental effects include a poor sense of self-image and low self-esteem, which can increase feelings of self-loathing and disgust. The opinions of specialists in human development and behavioural medicine are voiced to understand violent behavior in individuals prone to criminal behaviours. Experts from a book known as the Societal Burden of Child Abuse explain the aspects of traumatization.

The Model of Systemic Relational Violence reconceptualizes violent relationships with coercive control and emotional and psychological violence at the core and more traditional event-based markers of relationship violence as peripheral enforcement tactics in a more extensive system of interpersonal domination. This new model is built on the insights and perspectives of survivors of relational violence and the service providers who support them. It has been developed to be applied in a variety of diverse relationships and contexts.

Violence sells, Americans have what sometimes seems to be an insatiable appetite for it. Depictions and descriptions of violence saturate our culture. songs urge us to rape women, kill police officers, and commit suicide. Movies portray-indeed they glorifyviolence as an intrinsic element of every imaginable plot line.Despite substantial evidence that an individual’s repeated exposure to portrayals of violence is associated with significantly increased likelihood that the individual will commit aggressive acts against others, no legal regime currently regulates such portrayals either on television, in music, in movies, or in video games. Neither Congress, the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, nor any state legislature has yet mustered the political will to impose substantial or systematic legal constraints upon producers or purveyors of violent images. Official censorship is rightly to be feared, but unreflective invocations of our commitment to freedom of speech provide incomplete justification for our legal regime’s apparent indifference to the possibility that media-induced violence may impose substantial costs on innocent victims.

Abstract:
Crimes of violence are recorded increasingly frequently, including those involving health professionals. We reviewed records of violent incidents kept for a major Accident and Emergency Department over a ten-year period. Details were recorded in a Violent Incident Book by all grades of A/E staff, and separate records were kept by hospital security officers. A total of 407 incidents were recorded. Numbers, rank and sex of staff assaulted, types of assault, injuries received, weapons used and characteristics and disposal of perpetrators were recorded. Many were young males who had been drinking: others were regular attenders, of whom three subsequently died and one convicted of murder. Nurses and male doctors appeared to be at the greatest risk of assault and receptionists at the least risk. Recording of violent incidents and subsequent prosecution seemed inconsistent, and may have reflected the lack of a code of practice in this area. Suggestions are made about preventing, predicting and dealing with violence, and its aftermath, in the A and E department, including the use of security officers and closed circuit television, waiting room design, the recognition of body language and signs of alcohol or substance intoxication. The importance of staff support after an assault is emphasized, including immediate and long-term counselling, provision of legal advice, criminal or civil court action, victim support schemes and the workings of the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board. Free legal advice for staff assaulted at work should be included in the terms of service of NHS staff.

In two studies we examined the influence of violent television news on viewers’ emotional experiences and facial expressions. In doing so, we considered formal and content aspects of news reports as well as viewers’ gratifications as independent variables. Analyses showed that violence in TV news elicits primarily negative emotions depending on the type of portrayed violence. Effects of presentation mode and of expected gratification on the viewers’ feelings are traceable. On the whole, fear is neither the only nor the most prominent emotion; rather, viewers seem to react to violence with “other-critical” moral emotions, including anger and contempt, reflecting a concern for the integrity of the social order and the disapproval of others. Emotions shown in reaction to the suffering of others, like sadness and fear, occur much more rarely. The results largely show a complex web of relations between media variables, viewers’ characteristics, and emotional processes.

. This study reveals the types of domestic violence in “Sweat” by Zora Neale Hurston and “Woman Hollering Creek” by Sandra Cisneros. The discussion will involve the types of abuse, the reactions of the victims, and the similarities and differences about the abuse in the two selected short stories. This study is designed to interpret phenomena of life associated to domestic violence reflected in the selected stories. Thus, this is a qualitative study. As the discussion is focused on the characters’ psychological aspects, the extrinsic approach is applied. The study finds out that the types of domestic violence that exist in the stories are emotional/psychological violence and physical violence and the victims of the abuse response somewhat differently to the abuse. The reactions of the abuse victim in Hurston’s “Sweat” include taking the violent silently and then to be moved to fight back, and the reactions of the abuse victim in Cisneros “Woman Hollering Creek” include  taking the violent silently and then making an effort to be free from the abuse by getting help from other people. The analysis also shows that the two short stories contain both similarities and differences.

The ratification of the Lanzarote Convention by Russia in 2013 entails several issues that cannot be resolved without the help of social-humanitarian sciences. Information from sociology, psychology, and jurisprudence has been used to create a concept for the empirical study of the domestic violence against children - to improve the implementation of the Convention in Russia. The concept considers two aspects of the problem - social and social-cultural. The article presents the Russian experience of how the provisions of the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse are implemented. The authors analyze statistical data on the number of families in which a sexually abused child is brought up; the number of abortions and childbirths by minors; the number of minors in educational colonies; the work of the childrens helpline; the number of mediation services; the number of social service organizations for families and children; the number of professionals working with children in programs aimed at preventing and protecting children from sexual exploitation and abuse; the number of organizations providing psychological-pedagogical and medical-social assistance; the number of specialized multifunctional centers providing assistance to families and child victims of sexual abuse; the number of specialized green rooms for investigating crimes related to minors; the number of specialists accompanying minors who have come into conflict with the law at all stages of the investigation and court proceedings; the number of professionals trained under the Child Sexual Violence Protection Program and now assisting families and child victims of violence. Abstract:
Animal abuse represents a complex social, psychological, criminological, victimological and legal phenomenon whose gravity is increased if a child appears either as the perpetrator or as the observer of violence against animals. Etiology and phenomenology of animal abuse suggest that it tends to overlap with various deviant, delinquent and criminal activities, including physical, emotional and sexual abuse of family or other community members, alcohol and drug abuse, illegal gambling and betting and membership of children and adolescents in street gangs. The author discusses fundamental reasons, causes and motives for animal abuse committed by children as well as the devastating impact of children?s exposure to the scenes of animal abuse on their future delinquent behavior. She emphasizes the link between animal abuse and family violence and analyzes the position of a child as a direct or indirect victim in such situations. In addition, the author estimates the efficiency of existing mechanisms of prevention and state reaction to such behaviours and suggests solutions, which are accepted in comparative law, as potential role models.

Abstract:
The main provisions on the organization and conduction of interrogation of minors who are victims of violence have been revealed. The concept of physical, sexual and psychological violence against a child has been studied. The features of interrogation of minors who are victims of violence and their significance in criminal proceedings have been theoretically analyzed. The author has determined the subject matter, object and tasks of interrogation of minors and features of the impact of violence on the development of a child and evidence provided by this child. Despite the large number of works focused on the study of various aspects of minors participation in different investigative actions, the legal and psychological literature does not sufficiently describe the psychological features of the interrogation of minors and does not fully analyze the factors that may affect the juvenile’s testimony while conducting such an investigative action as the interrogation. The author has emphasized the expediency of conducting investigative (search) actions against children, based on the principles of child-friendly justice (participation of the child, ensuring the best interests of the child, dignity, protection against discrimination, rule of law). The author has analyzed the algorithm of interrogation of a child based on the use of the following formula: “safe place + safe adult = safe child”; has provided recommendations to take into account the psychological and organizational features of different phases of the child’s interviewing; formulation of questions for minors who are victims of violence according to age and their psycho-emotional state. Examples of formulating the questions during the interviewing of children of preschool, primary school and adolescence age have been provided. It has been noted that consideration of the described psychological features during the interrogation (interviewing) of children who are victims of violence, will reduce the protective mechanisms of the psyche, minimize re-traumatization of the child and increase the effectiveness of the interrogation.

Various aspects of social learning and self-control theories have been applied to partner violence among multiple samples in the United States, but these theoretical approaches have been less commonly studied cross-culturally. Consequently, childhood maltreatment and low self-control have been identified as risk factors for various outcomes in primarily American samples. This study examined the relationships between childhood maltreatment, low self-control, and dating violence among college students in South Korea and the United States. Findings indicated that experiencing childhood maltreatment and having low self-control were key predictors of perpetration and victimization for both psychological and physical relationship violence. Witnessing interparental violence during childhood was less consistently predictive of one’s involvement in a violent dating relationship. Implications for theory and policy are discussed.

Abstract:
This study is an attempt to evaluate the psychiatric sequelae in victims of violence in Northern Ireland between 1979 and 1984. Seven hundred and nineteen consecutive referrals for medico-legal reports were investigated using detailed analysis of case records. These clients were all seeking compensation for psychological injury allegedly sustained following a violent incident. Details of demographic data, diagnosis and utilization of treatment services were recorded. Clients showed a high rate of anxiety and depressive reactions and neuroses, with notable infrequency in the diagnosis of hysteria and phobic neurosis. A large number of people were prescribed drugs, a significant percentage continuing to take these for over one year. The significance of these results is discussed with regard to the issues of compensation neurosis and ‘nervous shock’.
