This thesis is concerned with the perception of time in music with emphasis on tempo, emotion and time perception in music. Three studies were conducted to assess whether listeners were able to make consistent judgements about tempo that varied from piece to piece. This descriptive correlational and longitudinal study was designed to assess the changes in cognitive appraisal of emotions and coping strategies which myocardial infarction (Ml) patients used at two points in time. Additionally, the variables of cognitive appraisal of emotions were investigated for their relationships to coping strategies. A convenience sample of 21 confirmed first MI patients was selected from coronary care units (CCU) of four hospitals in western Canada. Latent growth modeling was used to examine stability and change over time, evaluating the course and consequences of each form of abuse. Abstract:
The purpose of the current study was to examine the effects of using fixed time schedules with different magnitudes of stimulus delivery as treatment for pica. A functional assessment was conducted, which indicated that pica occurred across experimental conditions and was most frequent in the absence of social stimulation or contingencies. A competing stimulus assessment was then conducted to identify stimuli that could potentially compete with pica during NCR. Subsequently, an evaluation of the effects of reinforcer magnitude on NCR as a treatment of pica was conducted. Treatment results
