Abstract:
This PhD. Thesis deals with the effects that psychological phenomena may have on the incentives of agents participating in economic interaction. In particular, I focus on how individuals' preference for certain distributions of welfare among others may affect their effort and other strategic decisions in a variety of contexts. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first one introduces the study. The next two chapters are theoretical and study the effects that aversion to inequity may have on effort decisions. The last two chapters are experimental and show evidence on when welfare comparis

Abstract:
Rural inhabitants of developing countries face extraordinarily risky environments, and decision-making under risk has crucial implications for the welfare of the rural poor. We reviewed the standard portfolio model, and drew our attention to three predictions that appeared to be inconsistent with empirical

The macroeconomics variables to be analysed are the unemployment rate, GDP per capita and the inflation rate. With regards to the reported well-being levels, a random sample of people who live in some selected MENA countries were interviewed each year by the Wor
