Abstract:
There is currently controversy regarding whether sexual reorientation or conversion therapies are ethical and effective forms of treatment for dissatisfied homosexually oriented people. We present the results of a survey of 206 psychotherapists who practice sexual conversion therapy. 187 therapists said they believed homosexuality is a developmental disorder and that the 1973 decision by the American Psychiatric Association to “depathologize” homosexuality was politically motivated and unscientific. The therapists believe that the majority of dissatisfied homosexually oriented clients who seek conversion therapy benefit from it, experiencing both changes in their sexual orientation and improved psychological functioning. We conclude that therapists who persist in providing reorientation therapy do so because they believe it is an effective and ethical treatment option for their clients.

Abstract:
English literature has faced homosexuality in a progressive manner though it has been through a struggling history. That is why a lot of writers of English literature have expressed and enjoyed themselves in their own ways. This paper addresses a few famous writers whose approaches in this regard have been homosexual in type. After looking at the societal love, norms and analysis of Sigmund Freud, this paper approaches Bangladesh and her view in this regard. This paper finds a kind of interdicted move from Bangladesh toward the homosexually important texts and finds the need to have a reciprocal approach. Finally, the outcome of this paper indicates to explain a critical perspective of Bangladeshi readers’ psychology that is how and why they avoid homosexuality as well as literary texts implied with it.

Abstract:
Psychology is not immune from the biases of its cultural context, including the devaluation of homosexuality. Historically, the profession has pathologized nonheterosexual orientations and failed to cultivate an appreciation of and sensitivity toward diversity in sexual orientation. Part of the instructor's role is to challenge prevailing heterosexist assumptions and provide accurate information about the psychology of lesbians and gay men. This article presents a rationale for making the psychology curriculum more inclusive of lesbian and gay male issues. Results are presented from a survey of current psychology textbooks that indicate inadequate coverage and segregated treatment of the topic of homosexuality. Finally, suggestions are provided to instructors for expanding coverage of lesbian and gay male psychological issues and avoiding heterosexist bias.

Abstract:
This paper was an investigation of Chinese university students' perceptions of and beliefs about homosexuality, their attitudes towards homosexuality, and the relationship between the two aspects. A total of 500 students from 3 universities in China were sampled. The results were as follows: (i) Of the 4 variables examined, the differences between participants' perceptions and attitudes were significant only on the basis on the students' area of study. (ii) There was a significantly positive correlation between participants' perceptions about homosexuality and their attitudes, that is, attitudes could be positively predicted from participants' perceptions. (iii) Perceptions and attitudes varied significantly according to the time when participants first had contact with the term “homosexuality”. In conclusion, adequate knowledge about homosexuality is helpful for Chinese university students in adopting much more tolerant attitudes towards homosexuality.

Abstract:
The Swiss psychoanalyst Fritz Morgenthaler (1919–84) is well known in German-speaking psychoanalysis as an early exponent of Heinz Kohut's self psychology, as an ethnopsychoanalytic researcher and as an original thinker on the topics of dreams, psychoanalytic technique and especially on sexuality (perversions, heterosexuality, homosexuality). In 1980, he presented the first psychoanalytic conception of homosexuality in the German-speaking world that did not view homosexuality in terms of deviance or pathology. His theory of ‘junction points’ ( Weichenstellungen) postulates three decisive moments in the development of homosexuality: a prioritized cathexis of autoeroticism in narcissistic development, a Janus-facedness of homosexual desire as an outcome of the Oedipal complex and the coming out in puberty. According to Morgenthaler, this development can result in non-neurotic or neurotic homosexuality. Less known than the theory of junction points and to some degree even concealed by himself (his earlier texts appeared later on in corrected versions) are Morgenthaler's pre-1980 accounts of homosexuality which deserve to be called homophobic. Starting with a discussion of this early work, the article outlines Morgenthaler's theoretical development with special focus on his theory of junction points and how this theory was taken up in psychoanalytic theory.

Abstract:
Do homosexuals disproportionately molest children? A survey of 8 of the nation's newspaper news stories of child molestation during the first 9 months of 1995 showed that about 40% of child molestation stories in the major cities involve homosexuality. An Internet survey of FirstSearch for 1989 through 1995 indicated 46%, and of Newsbank for 1990 through 1995 60% of molestations were homosexual. About half of teachers, day care workers and other professionals caught molesting children assaulted them homosexually. It is argued that large unbiased sets of newspaper news stories appear to approximate the figures for incidence of child molestation by those occupying a newsworthy status but overreport homosexual molestation in general.

Abstract:
An 18-item questionnaire assessing attitudes toward AIDS and homosexuality was administered to 420 Australian tertiary students. The predictive power of attitudes toward homosexuality, empathy toward AIDS sufferers, knowledge about AIDS, church attendance, age, and sex was tested using independent and stepwise multiple-regression analyses. In the stepwise analysis attitudes toward homosexuality and empathy toward AIDS sufferers were the major contributors to fear about AIDS. Church attendance and age improved the over-all prediction significantly, but only slightly. In the independent analysis all variables, except church attendance, were significant predictors. Educational programmes on AIDS should address the relationship between homosexuality and fear of AIDS.

This article presents the development of the rights movement for the LGBT population in Colombia within the international context. As part of the Latin-American tradition and Spanish heritage, the behaviour and attitude towards sexuality in general and towards homosexuality in particular, were very conservative in the country. The beginning of the gay liberation movement in Colombia is presented, along with its historical, psychological and legal aspects, the ideas of homosexuality as a sin, as a criminal offence, as a mental disease, or as an alternative lifestyle. Described are the developments of what is referred to as sexual rights, as human rights, marriage equality, the adoption of children by same-sex couples, homo-parental families, the topics of health, identity, the psychological health of LGBT people, and the attitudes of the Colombian society in relation to these aspects. The roles of psychology as a discipline and the professional psychology associations are shown in a historical perspective.

Abstract:
How much child molestation occurs in our society and how much is homosexual? Random-probability samples in Los Angeles, Denver, Omaha, Louisville, and Washington, DC yielded 4,340 adults who answered an extensive questionnaire regarding sexual attitudes, activities, and experiences. Results indicate that perhaps 16% of both boys and girls claim sexual relations with an adult before the age of 16; if only experiences with men are counted about 5% of boys and 15% of girls claim sexual involvements. Sexual contacts with adults before respondents were aged 13 were claimed by 9% of boys and 7% of girls; if only experiences with men are counted, only 3% of boys claimed molestation. Considering only children's claims of sex with men, about a third were homosexual molestations. About 1% of females claimed some sexual involvement with their fathers and a like number with stepfathers. The latter were considerably more apt to be considered “serious.” About 1% of elementary pupils and 3% of secondary pupils claimed sexual advances by teachers and about a third of these advances resulted in physical sexual contact. Bisexuals or homosexuals claimed much more frequent sexual contact with caretakers, and homosexuality was disproportionately implicated in sexual events under caretakers' charge. No generational differences in rate of claims of sexual molestation were found.

Abstract:
A random sample of 5,182 adults from 6 U.S. metropolitan areas were questioned about incestuous sexual relationships during childhood. Incest was disproportionately reported by both male and female bisexuals and homosexuals. 148 gays (7.7% of the sample) reported 14 (50%) of same-sex, and 7 (22%) of opposite-sex incestuous experiences, and 20 (69%) of same-sex and 2 (3%) of opposite-sex sexual experiences with other relatives. 88 lesbians (3% of the sample) reported 2 (33%) of same-sex incest and 7 (9%) of opposite-sex incest and 1 (17%) of same-sex and 10 (13%) of opposite-sex sexual experiences with other relatives. 12% of 98 male homosexuals vs 0.8% of 1,224 male heterosexuals with a brother reported brother-brother incest. These findings are consonant with those of other studies in which disproportionately more incest by homosexuals was reported. As opposed to an evolutionary genetic hypothesis, these data support the alternative that homosexuality may be learned, since homosexuals do not produce children at sustainable levels and the incidence of homosexuality varies as a function of various social factors. Incest cannot be excluded as a significant basis for homosexuality.

Abstract:
This study investigated sex differences in homonegativity and their correlates among 197 Vietnamese college students (males = 49, females = 148, M = 20.9 years, SD = 2.9) in Ho Chi Minh City. The survey included Vietnamese-language versions of four scales measuring attitudes toward homosexuality (ATHS), traditional masculinity ideology, knowledge of homosexuality, and contact experiences with homosexuals. An exploratory factor analysis indicated a 3-factor structure for the ATHS: Homonegativity, Tolerance, and Positive Images. Male respondents reported significantly higher scores on homonegativity. Traditional masculinity ideology was positively related to females’ homonegativity, but negatively correlated with tolerant attitudes of both males and females. Knowledge about homosexuality was negatively correlated with homonegativity. Media contact with homosexuals was negatively correlated with males’ homonegativity, but positively correlated with both females and males’ tolerant attitudes. Results suggest that future research develop a new scale to measure Vietnamese’s homonegativity and that media contact as well as ample and accurate knowledge about homosexuality can alter homonegativity.

To assess whether a systematic tally of newspaper accounts reflect official foster-parent molestation a review of 6,444 news stories on Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe from 1989 through 2002 about child molestation yielded 33 stories involving foster parents. Of the 25 foster-parent perpetrators, at least 15 (60%) engaged in homosexuality In Illinois 1997–2002, 92 (34%) of 270 foster- or adoptive-parent perpetrators who engaged in “substantiated” sexual abuse homosexually abused their charges. These findings suggest that the proportion of homosexual perpetrators in a systematic tally of newspaper stories is similar to the proportion of homosexual perpetrators in datasets from large entities and put in question the current policy of utilizing homosexuals as foster and adoptive parents.

Abstract:
Concurrent with an interest in the incidence and characterization of homosexuality has been an increased interest in the biological basis of such behavior. The present article reviews evidence in support of a biological basis of homosexuality in three interrelated categories—genetic evidence, the prenatal neurohormonal hypothesis, and neuroanatomical evidence. An attempt is made to not only review studies that are representative of experimental findings in each of these categories, but to critically assess the evidence in terms of experimental protocol. In an attempt to provide a Christian assessment of the biological evidence, three conclusions are drawn: (1) evidence for a biological basis of homosexuality is sufficient to warrant its acceptance; (2) the nature of the biological influence on homosexuality is predisposing not determining, thus providing the potential for change; and (3) acceptance of a biological basis of homosexuality in no manner changes the biblical condemnation or prohibition of such behavior. Finally, the need for the Christian church to reach out and minister to homosexual individuals is briefly discussed.

Abstract:
It is very interesting to bring discourse on homosexuality and lesbianism, particularly from a psychological perspective into the arena of Islamic discourse. Study of homosexuality and lesbianism becomes even more interesting when we try to elaborate on the psychological theories of sexuality from the expert and pioneer of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud. Freud was considered by some as anti-God, anti-establishment, anti-argument, anti-consciousness and anti-rationality. This was because Freud created inner psychology, which not only examined the visible indications of the soul, but also those things connected to dreams, hysteria and imaginings. This article discusses the phenomena of homosexuality and lesbianism from a psychological perspective, mainly focusing on the theories of Freud. This is because Sigmund Freud is the psychologist who proposed psychoanalysis, which introduced and spread.
