However, while academic research enables practitioners insights into understanding turnover phenomena, there is no single document that comprehensively translates this work to give guidance as to the many practical decisions that must be made when modeling turnover, as well as how to apply psychological research to messier operational data. Abstract:
AbstractThroughout the history of psychology, scholars and practitioners have sought to understand religious/spiritual (R/S) development and its intersections with well-being. Several models of R/S development have been proposed, but they have neither been well-integrated with each other nor studied and applied broadly in the field of positive psychology. This chapter’s purpose is to draw on existing longitudinal research on R/S development to propose an integrative theory that can guide developmental science and practice on religion, spirituality, and positive psychology. This Positive Religious and Spiritual Development (PRSD) theory posits that people’s religiousness/spirituality (a) is motivated by goals designed to meet psychological needs (e.g., for acceptance, predictability, and competence); (b) consists of mental/neural representations (stored beliefs, emotions, action tendencies, and physiological responses) and R/S habits that develop and change through relational experiences at the micro-, meso-, and macrolevels; (c) is influenced by numerous contextual factors (e.g., age, sex/gender, culture, and faith tradition), including personal and sociocultural assets and liabilities (risk and resilience factors); and (d) interacts bidirectionally with people’s holistic well-being via psychological, social, behavioral, and physical pathways. We offer illustrative examples of PRSD theory, highlight some of its caveats and limitations, and discuss its applications for clinical practice and religious ministry.

Abstract:
Abstract This chapter presents a social-psychological account of political participation. The framework connects the micro-, meso-, and macro-level and separates demand, supply, and mobilization as factors influencing the dynamics of protest participation. Understanding political participation requires research that focuses on the individual citizens—what are their fears, hopes, and concerns? What are the issues they care for? What are the motives they have? What opportunities do they perceive? Research of protest participation tends to neglect that even in identical circumstances individuals diverge widely in the ways they act politically. A proper understanding of that variation requires a framework that integrates the micro-, meso-, and macro-level of analysis. Such integration is frequently asked for but sparsely done.

Abstract:
This chapter introduces the volume and gives a brief overview of its structure and the content of each chapter. The chapter describes the nature of social psychological research on collective victimhood to date, defines the concept, and provides an organizing framework for scholarship on collective victimhood. This framework emphasizes the interplay of structural and individual-level factors that need to be considered, as well as how the social psychology of collective victimhood is studied at the micro-, meso-, and macro level of analysis. In order to avoid a determinist and simplistic view of collective victimhood, it is crucial to consider the different ways in which people actively construe and make sense of collective victimization of their group(s). It is also important to consider the role of power, history, and other structural factors that together shape the diversity of experiences of collective victimization as well as the consequences of collective victimhood.

Abstract:
Trends and patterns in crime and criminal justice are shaped by variations in the overall structure of different political economies. The macro trends in political economy are mediated by varying institutional and cultural factors and, in turn, these feed down into more local neighbourhood and family patterns and ultimately the psychology of different individuals. Whilst there is an element of choice in the commission of crime, this operates in conditions that are influenced by micro, meso, and macro structures. The chapter analyses the history of political economy as a perspective in criminological theory, as well as how crime and criminal justice vary over time and space between different political economies, in particular social democratic and neoliberal ones.

Abstract:
Readers may be familiar with Civil Rights Movement adage: “freedom is a constant struggle.” This concluding chapter demonstrates how commemoration is a constant struggle, highlighting the decades-long efforts to institutionalize the collective memory of racial violence in the United States. Thus, this chapter argues that attention to commemorative outcomes should be a critical concern of collective memory research, concerns that have remained largely unexplored. The chapter further suggests that it is most advantageous to conceptualize commemorations and memory movements as iterative, a feedback loop in which movements produce commemorations and commemorations produce movements. It then highlights the process of commemorating difficult pasts, arguing that the meso-level interactional dynamics such as intergroup contact shape possibilities for commemorative outcomes. In this way, the social psychology of racial identity and intergroup contact provide important insights for local memory activists and racial reconciliation practitioners more broadly.
